    I see Simon.
So here's a thought... let's make an alternative English league structure. We'll call it England Mega League and we'll invite the richest club owners from England to it regardless of what league (or non-league) tier their club plays and what their current fanbase looks like.
We'll invite a few lucky winnners into it so that it looks inclusive and we'll even garnish it with its own version of the FA Cup, which we'll call the Massive Huge Members' Cup and we'll make a load of money by selling each match as a separate purchase on top of the subscription on our new footy watching platform.
We'll do this not to make money though. We'll do it because for far too long, the English FA has been holding football under its monopolistic boot with all its 'rules'.
    Do me a favour mate...
A governing body should govern responsibly, yes, but at some level and at some point it needs by definition to be a 'monopoly' otherwise from where can it possibly derive its authority?
If UEFA is the problem, let's get all the UEFA FAs together and change or replace UEFA, but let's not hide behind faux economic theory, market forces, supply and demand, and all this utterly transparent 'football is suffering' and 'it's time for change' marketing taglines, and saying people want this. The immensely vast majority of footbll fans simply don't.
Tragically naive, or else lying to themselves and/or everyone else, are they who seriously believe that this Super League nonsense is anything more than a very obvious and cynical attempt (seems now it's more like a concerted campaign) to utterly and completely deregulate the financial side of football. The obvious logical conclusion of which is 'The Big 12' as set out in the original proposal. Whether this is the ultimate aim or not is another question.

Apparently football needs saving, according to the ESL apologists. However, how did it survive two World Wars? How it get by when there was no and later very little televised football? How did it survive when there was no shirt sponsorship? How did it survive the large drop in attendances to FAR lower levels than today, from the 1960's to the 1980's? How did it survive the upsurge in hooliganism in the 1970's and 1980's? How did the English clubs survive being banned from Europe for several seasons after 1985? How did EVERY club survive prior to the mid-1950's, when there were no European competitions? How did it survive, when there was FAR smaller global audiences than today? (Even if the proportionate size of global audiences and the financial contribution they make, compared to European audiences, is often grossly exhaggerated! I even saw one halfwit, claim that 200 million would watch the ESL in Singapore, ignoring the inconvenient truth that Singapore has a population of just 6 million!) How were so many clubs able to afford to rebuild their stadia, or move to new ones in some cases, in recent decades?
And yet, Perez claims that football is in crisis and needs saving! The greedy clubs who tried to form the ESL may be in financial trouble in some cases, but they should not be behaving like greedy, overspending, self-entitled brats! Creating a competition, like the ESL though, which will attract FAR lower audiences than the Champions League, is not going to make them nearly as much money as they seem to think and when it crashes and burns, those clubs would be in a hell of a lot more financial trouble than at present! 4 billion viewers? Don't make me laugh! Anyone like Perez who makes such ludicrous claims for an ESL, or indeed ANY football tournament, clearly lives on a different planet! 4 billion is HALF the population of the ENTIRE Earth! (Though perhaps Perez is counting the audience for the ESL from his home planet, amongst those 4 billion, as there sure as hell won't be 4 billion Earthlings watching it!)

It will only cause a bigger disparity in club finances than there already is. 120 teams already compete in the UEFA European cups. The top division in the ESL will still be made up of all the usual suspects who will be making even more money than ever before thus distancing themselves even further from those who don't qualify/qualify lower. The lifting of FFP will also inflate the transfer market to even more absurd levels of money than ever before, the rich will get richer who always qualify for it and the mid table to lower domestic leagues will find it even more difficult to compete both financially and competitively. It will destroy the domestic leagues still and its an obvious stepping stone to the ESL becoming what it originally wanted to be, a full time league. This whole "new concept" is just a ploy to get fans on board before the obvious longterm goal of completely taking over.

The first ESL proposal was dire. This is better but it's too many games. I'm not sure why you'd get rid of the brilliant exciting format of the champions league or remain in a domestic league when in an ESL. For me, one ESL with 20 teams. It sits atop domestic leagues with relegation to and from ESL from the domestic leagues. Champions League still runs in its current format. With the 20 teams from the ESL and 12 from the domestic leagues. ESL teams can also play in their domestic cup competitions. Europa League still runs. I think this is palatable and potentially exciting.

If one of the top clubs falls out of their European competition in a run of bad early season form, but have a good run of form for say 2 months from February, they don't have a chance to capitalise on this Form because of their earlier elimination from the competition.
A league without elimination would allow teams to maximise profits on their good form, regardless of the time of the season.
Further, this promotes the consistency of form as there would be no 'relegation' back to their National League, because there is no elimination.

The PL as the most elite national League only comes as a consequence of other leagues doing their bit to raise levels in their country.
In the same manner, a super league raises the bar once again. If the PL really houses the best clubs then the best players will trickle down or in this case up to those clubs.
So if anything, it gives the PL a bigger pool of players to pick and choose this, raising the level in the league.

Similar to the PL, every league place finish and subsequently every point attained is worth a certain amount of income.
The relative value of that income is of course different from club to club.
So Dynamo Zagreb for example will play their heart out as the income from the 3 points is worth far more to them than e.g. Newcastle.
They can use these funds to promote their academy system who's products will in turn, if good enough, move around clubs and improve football as a whole.
It also Curbs the elitist attitude of some superstars who seem to only perform for the most important games. To be at the top, you have to show that you're consistently good which nearly every human being would argue to be the best method of judgement for deciding who is the best at anything.

History is repeating itself because that is exactly how the Premier League was founded. It was a breakout faction of first division English clubs who signed a TV rights deal with Sky and became the founding members. Super league is the exact same concept except that it is EU centric and has no permanent members.
English clubs like Chelsea and Spurs can spend 600 million on transfers and a billon dollars on a stadium respectively. Smaller clubs in Europe cannot afford basic renovations. They have even removed the permanent members requirement, so any team can qualify.
I am interested in more details around how it works. Let's wait and watch.

@@johnfulco8313 English clubs foreign/UK revenue split is 55%-45% so, foreign friendlies will happen regardless of what you think as English fans only contribute a third of the clubs total revenue.
In fact, if you feel so bad about this, go and protest outside your club and they will give you the middle finger and kick you off their property but had it been in the states, you rightly would have been shot.
Teams play 4-10 friendlies per season during the summer so an extra 4 games won't hurt the players and players love the European summer heat. Even though they aren't robots, the players earn in a month what a normal person earns in a lifetime, meaning they can play the matches and are well compensated for it.
Clubs can have bigger squads and rotate players and since these can replace friendlies, the clubs won't have an issue with it, in fact, if the clubs can make serious money from it, they would play the games as football teams are a business so you are a cash cow and this has always been the case.
UEFA are only doing this due to its own monopoly agenda and if this did go ahead, it won't affect the EPL anyway as its just another tournament.
Historically, Chelsea as English Champions were invited to play in the European Cup in 1955, but the FA banned Chelsea from taking part, but this changed a few years later as they couldn't stand the though of a Scottish team winning it first, which Celtic did in 1965 and the FA and English teams making money from participating.
In the end of the day, fans ranting on about not with our game is pointless as you don't own the game so the teams should be able to do what they want to make more money and if the ESL does go ahead, then I'm sure the FA would allow participation at some point as long as it doesn't hurt the league and they make boat loads of money in the process which as a business, they most likely will and your brittle feelings will just be given the middle finger rightly.
