I like to think that's due to Byleth's influence in their lives. Their banes showed a disdain for a particular style of combat: Felix with Magic, being more focused on honing his swordplay. Lysithea with Swords, disliking physical combat and preferring magic, which aligns with her intellect. And Dorothea with Faith, given how she grew up on the streets as an orphan and her disgust for the nobility who's authority comes from the Church's teachings about Crests. But all three learn to overcome their biases and ask to shore up any potential weaknesses. Dorothea herself even outright says that she doesn't believe in the Church of Seiros and that her faith is in Byleth themselves.
I've actually read somewhere that Catherine's spell pool being fire based might actually be a reference to the Tower Arcana, which is what the Crest of Charon is based on. And before you ask about Lysithea, she only has a minor Crest of Charon, and Three Hopes classifies Hades as dark and fire. Her major Crest, Gloucester, is based on the Hermit, portraying an old man in a dark cave, with the lantern being represented by Lorenz also having a fire based spell pool.
I think Constance having that budding talent is a reference to how she must learn that as a commoner, she must now be able to take care of herself in a lot of dangerous situations. Her support with Yuri sort of touches on this, where she ends up following his advice on acting like a commoner very poorly, hence the need for her to train in brawling before being good at it. I think that would have been a little more clear if she started with a bane in Brawling.
@@rossjones5208 I'm pretty sure that's all it was but someone else already said that and I wanted to say at least something that related to her character
Fun fact: Leonie's supports with Shez in Three Hopes actually make a callback to her not having a single bane. Leonie is worried that because she doesn't excel in any area, she'll have a hard time standing out as a mercenary, making it harder for her to get noticed and employed. Shez counter with that because she doesn't have any weaknesses either, there's practically no job she isn't somewhat qualified for and that she can cover any weaknesses in a team, something that a specialized mercenary can't do, making her a very valuable mercenary. Leonie gets WAY better character development in Three Hopes because Jeralt isn't a factor in her story until the end of game and her paralogue with Jeralt, Alois, Byleth and Shez explores her backstory as Jeralt's apprentice, touching on how because she didn't know how to write, she had to memorize all the lessons he taught her.
The one detail I notice every time I play is how Balthus is the unit with the highest amount of boons in the game at 6. Most characters have 3 or 4, a select few reach 5, but only Balthus has 6 whole boons if we account for his budding talent.
Quick extra point on Cyril: Despite his devotion to Rhea, his is entirely personal to Rhea (in the same way Catherine's is) which also means he doesn't have any care at all for the Fodlan faith, so not only is he bad at faith and reason because he can't read, he also just doesn't believe in the religion
Additionally in FEW3H Bernadetta mentions that as a nobel she had to learn how to ride a horse from a young age, which gave her a hidden talent in it. Something Marianne also notes about Bernadetta
Felix actually explains the situation with his initial Reason bane in game. Felix can sometimes ask Byleth to switch his focus to Swords and Reason to become a Mortal Savant (I don't know if his budding talent has to be unlocked for this to happen), and when he does he says something to the effect of previously dismissing magic as useless to him as he fights with a sword, but that he recently considered that magic might be able to improve his swordsmanship. Essentially, he refuses to give up fighting with weapons, so his Reason is a bane. Then, becomes a Boon once he realizes he can do both, since he has a natural talent in it. In theory, anyway; his magic stat isn't awful, but his Reason spell list having literally two spells sort of dooms his chances of actually being an effective magic unit. I assume they were trying to encourage you to have him use magic as an occasional supplement to his sword attacks, but realistically it encourages you to just not bother training his Reason.
Felix's request to change to Mortal Savant doesn't requires to master the hidden talent but it's implied to be on his mind since in one of the questions he says even if his magic is mediocre would it improve his capacities as a swordmaster
That's possible, but I thought that each character corresponds to a specific class- Yuri-Trickster, Balthus-War Cleric, Hapi-Valkyrie and Constance-Dark Flier.
Constance’s brawling situation could maaaaybe be explained as her trying to have better self defense as a new commoner with no family left to rely on. Her personality shifts could also explain her wanting to just try new things like brawling, as well. Although she generally is one to mostly focus on her magical talents, rather than try something new, but you never know anything for certain with her. On the other hand, she is very spontaneous, so she’s probably open to anything
On the ashen wolves not having a no bane student, if you take the perspective of that being a sign of being studious, it kinda makes sense since the ashen wolves are the outcasts who dont belong to a proper house and dont come to class if you dont seek them out
Quick correction: Sagittae and Thunder are not Dark Magic spells, they're black magic. I'm not sure why three houses changed this but the elemental spells like fire, thunder, and wind that are known as Anima magic in the older games got renamed to black magic, while dark magic stayed the same. Also in gameboy games, there was a spell called Lightning which was white magic too.
A thought I had... What if Dimitri had a weakness is swords? In his support with Felix, Felix won't let him hold the Sword of Zoltan because he doesn't want a big brute like Dimitri swinging it around. Since swords are more dexterity based weapons (Pun intended), Dimitri might have an issue with them. Similar thing with axes. What if he had a budding talent in them or at least a strength? Axes are the exact opposite of swords. You just swing and smash so Dimitri would be pretty good with them. Basiclly, I think swords and axes should be switched if we want to talk about stat lore
Does anyone find it ironic that Lysithea has a talent for swords despite being terrible with anything involving physical activity? Almost like she is perfectly made to hold a levin sword and other such magical blades.
I've got it! Constance having a budding talent in Brawling is a joke on her having a characteristic oversight because both of her preferred class lines, flying and/or magic, don't have access to it.
For constance the brawling might resemble how despite being kicked out of the nobility she isn't going down without a fight but maybe that should have been a talent instead but maybe it being a hidden talent could represent that with your help she will get her title back but that part is a bit of a stretch. Another idea I have is because she lived in the underground she probably had to learn how to fight for herself especially as a former noble and a woman so she might have picked up a hidden talent for it thst you can expand.
I think for Leonie its more that since she wanted to be a mercenary, she needs to be adaptable so she can take any job. Hence she doesnt suck at anything, because she cant afford to.
Thunderbrand's combat art Foudroyant Strike first appeared as a combat art on the Levin Sword in Echoes, and is lightning-elemental in Three Hopes. She is very much literally electricity themed, even if Three Houses couldn't be bothered to put any effort into its combat art animations.
Whenever Catherine uses her signature lightning-themed combat art Foudroyant Strike, her Thunderbrand loses out on its Brave attribute. That's because lightning doesn't strike twice. It's possible that the disconnect between her lightning theme and her fire-based magic could refer to her current identity being a new one adopted after she joined the Knights of Seiros and obtained Thunderbrand, and that the innate magic she has access to matches her former identity as Cassandra, but then Lonato calls her "Thunderstrike Cassandra" so that doesn't quite match up neatly either. Honestly kinda wasted potential, if only Lonato had called her "Flamestrike Cassandra" we'd have a pretty neat hidden reference, or at worst a cool headcanon if he'd just given her a non-elemental moniker. At least in Three Hopes you *could* use the spell learning system to actually teach her lightning magic and keep her on (thunder)brand.
Idk if anyone else has said this but I think that byleth’s boon in brawling is a reference to the trace amount of Nabatean they have in them as it seems like a common skill of dragons as Rhea can teach brawling in 3h while in engage alear starts out being proficient with arts and art proficiency can be inherited from tiki
One thing that comes to mind is that Dorothea, Felix and Lysithea is each of them have a budding talent in a bane. One for each house.

Honestly, I think Constance's hidden talent is simply meant to encourage you to go War Cleric, a DLC class that came alongside Constance herself.
Also 6:56 "historically"? The stat was only added with this game...
True, I believe she even suggests to Byleth for her to study in Faith and Brawling
*in order to become a war cleric

The amount of work you put into these are great considering you have like 4 other channels
I always interpreted Felix's bane in magic due to the whole uh... situation... on how "no magic in the world can bring someone back"

Maybe so. And swords would be the easiest for her to use
Could be her crest of Charon slightly influencing her as well
Ignatz killed Raphael's parents with his high luck stat.
I've got it! Constance having a budding talent in Brawling is a joke on her having a characteristic oversight because both of her preferred class lines, flying and/or magic, don't have access to it.
Bylteh’s charm stat caps at 99 in 3 Houses so I’d say Byleth is the most charming character in 3 Houses 😂.
Maybe Constance Dabbled in boxing when her house was still around perhaps that's why she has a hidden talent in it
Very cool video! Keep up the good work

Catherine hits strike like lightning. Not literally electricity
