    Hello I love your vids, I have decided after really learning about sulcata's that I would like to make the long commitment to owning a few, what do you charge for a morphe?

  • @TheMeldamine

    Good stuff man! Totally agree with Cane's chicken too, where we just moved, we don't have any- so now only get it when visiting family.
    Have known of quite a number of Sulcatas to develope problems with the CFL type UVB bulbs. Doesn't always happen, but the number has been high enough to indicate it is fairly common.
    I use the tube style UVB lights, I hang the light about 10" above the substrate with no problems. Mercury Vapor bulbs works as well, but they add alot of heat and when the thermostat kicks it off of on so much, its not great for the bulb or the baby.
    Keep it up man! We need more good sulcata info available on RUclips. Too many people don't understand that the humidity is important to prevent pyramiding. If you're having trouble keeping it around 80%, more substrate helps, I keep my substrate around 6 inches thick with a lid on top made of aluminium foil coated poster board. I dump a small pitcher of water in there once every week or so, then just lightly spray the torts every day.

    • @State48TurtleTortoise
      @State48TurtleTortoise  3 года назад

      Thanks Hugh! Canes is amazing haha!
      CFL are terrible I agree haha. I use mercury vapor bulb with great success. I will probabaly switch to tube style that doesn’t give off heat in the spring or summer because my bulb will kick off all day. Right now it stays on almost all day with the cooler weather.
      Email me a link of what tube style UV you use!
      Humidity is huge. I spray down everything a couple times a day and also soak the substrate every week or so like you. I have an old gym mat in top to keep the humidity in. Not perfect but works lol

    It isn’t good to grow them too fast, you want slow steady growth. They should also have a varied diet, my temps never go below 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Not while they are babies anyhow.

    Hey dude super awesome tank! Your temps and humidity are spot on. However, why aren’t you making it pretty?! It could add such a wonderful aesthetic to your home and give the tortoises a comfortable replica of the outside. I’d love to help you come up with some ideas! Also (tip: tortoises don’t understand glass, like birds. It’s best if there is a cover up to where they can see so they understand there is a barrier there. this lowers their stress and prolongs longevity.) :) LOVE YOUR TORTS💚

    • @State48TurtleTortoise
      @State48TurtleTortoise  2 года назад +1

      If it seems down and low on energy it could be a few things. Number one would be temperatures.(environment) Ensure that is all correct.
      Next is hydration and diet. A cold Tortoise will not move and will die slowly unfortaubtly.

    • @State48TurtleTortoise
      @State48TurtleTortoise  3 года назад +2

      It isn’t 100 percent ideal, I agree with you! But I have raised tons of hatchlings this way without an issue that all turned out amazing! It’s really difficult to find a perfect closed chamber set up to keep humidity levels high enough. Thes hatchlings don’t run at the sides very often though, the tank is much larger than they are and they will only be in here till spring and it warms up enough for a safe outdoor enclosure. First thing I see I cannot continue on you are inexperienced I assume. You cannot keep turtles in a glass tank if you must I would recommend putting tape around the bottom 2 inches the reason they are at the side is because they can’t tell it’s glass they will keep trying to walk forever. Please do more research before you try to inform others

    • @State48TurtleTortoise
      @State48TurtleTortoise  2 года назад +2

      I can agree with you, glass tank is not 100 percent ideal, but works just fine. I have found that as the glass gets dirty very quickly the animals don’t do the incessant walking trying to get out. I have raised a ton of tortoises this way and they have all turned out amazing
