Wow Gert! I've seen about everything now. I've seen you hit a stop with the top of your head when the registrant and you couldn't do it with hands. I've seen you cross your feet on the pedal board ... on and on. Now here your are with your music flying everywhere. You calmly pick it off the floor and elsewhere without missing a beat. Talk about capabilities far far beyond the imagination. Thank you for the beauty...and for the great show!!!
Gert, you are a truly impressive and inspiring musician. If the government of the Netherlands has not proclaimed you a National Treasure, they should!
I've listened to this several times over the years - and I am always drawn by the outstanding talents of Gert van Hoef's organ playing....and the passionate singing of the congregation while Gert plays. Always a treat to listen to, especially if I'm burning the midnight oil as I type this. What I would do to be able to listen to Gert in person. Someday.....

What a wonderful counterpoint between organ and heartily singing congregation. Wish we had such fervent singing congregations in the USA. You have a great skill in getting the congregation revved up with your improvisations between stanzas. Oh the modulations are wonderful

Wunderschöne Klänge auf einer "bescheidenen" Orgel. Auch der Gesang der Gemeinde ist sehr ergreifend.Doch wer Gert' Improvisations-Technik im Herumblättern und Notenblätter auflesen und anschliessend ein paar Takte Spielen ohne Noten - wohlverstanden ohne Unterbruch (!) - sehen will, geht auf 31:25.Einfach genial: The show must go on!
Auch wenn ich den Text nicht kenne, aber es gefällt mir sehr gut, und Orgel Musik ist was sehr schönes.
Ja, und dazwischen ein bisschen aufräumen :-)
In the UK the first tune is commonly used for "Great is Thy Faithfulness", one of my favourites (Thomas Obediah Chisholm).

I don't know how I missed this video earlier. This was splendid, superb.
What talent! I believe that you must be getting some assistance from ??? oh, yes, Heavenly Father!! Your playing is breathtaking; the way you can adlib; and your finger dexterity is a wonderful gift!! I have always wondered why you raise your hands and nearly slam them on the keys. I play organ and I remember needing to do that when I played a pipe organ for awhile. Is that the reason? I still want to come to Europe to hear you play in person!! I think I will need to start rowing across the Atlantic!!

Wonderful as always! "He the Pearly Gates Will Open" has to be my favorite. Great congregational singing. I think several folk would like to hear your arrangement of the hymn "How Great Thou Art" when you have some spare time.

My professor said this Swedish hymn was conceived in a Swedish Salvation Army chapel in the old Swede town of Chicago; on Lincoln Ave. It was my grandmother's favorite, and sung at her funeral in 1959. Thanks so much.

Ik ben 61 en gereformeerd opgevoed, maar nu niet meer gelovig. Ik denk toch bij kerkse orgelmuziek met een fijn gevoel terug aan mijn jeugd in Gouda. Maar de psalmen en gezangen zelf doen mij niet zo veel meer ware het niet dat ik sommige teksten nog wel degelijk herinner. Je interludes waar wat meer ritme en tempo in zit, hoera, want in mijn jeugd was het meestal alleen muziek met hele en halve noten, en een traag tempo, maar je interludes dus, die vind ik fantastisch. Je bent een groot musicus. Je zweeft over het klavier en ik zie dat je het heerlijk vindt. Ik ga zeker naar een concert, al zie ik dat dat er niet zoveel zijn.
Daar moet ik aan toevoegen dat ik jouw uitvoering van het laatste stuk gezang 300 ook helemaal top vind.
Fantastisch begeleiding en wat zingen ze goed mee!

Congregations have their own tempo, which guest organists must endeavor to match. That is a challenge which concert artists do not face.

jan van de beek, tempo is een keuze. Informeer vooraf wat de gemeente gewent is en graag wil. Maar,....... bij gemeentezang de gemeente altijd voorblijven en op sleeptouw nemen? "Wat is dat voor onzin". Zou streven naar eenheid zowel in spelen als zingen geen betere optie zijn en daar is hier sprake van.

I really enjoy his music, but when he tries to play something he doesn't know he misses way too many notes and gets the timing all wrong. It's like he hasn't heard it, so he just goes along missing notes and not attending to time. It messes up some of the familiar hymns, big time!
Amazing how boring hymns sound in any language, pity we couldn’t listen to Gert alone. And, please don’t attribute the amazing skills of this wonderful young man to some invisible friend in the sky, that would be an insult.
Tanga Toto Why not? it's our God and creator, Who gave this talent to Gert. We must always give God the honour, so it would be an insult if we didn't attribute his talent to God, who gave him his talent.
God is not mocked. You will be smirking on the other side of your face one day.
