The amazing thing about the 06 is its age and how great at conception it was,it is a versatile powerhouse to this day. That bullet expanded is so pretty.....lol .That bullet looks great.
It's driveline a great bullet. Thanks for watching and commenting brother!
The '06 is basically a lengthened year 1888 7.92x57mm German Rifle Commission case, aka 8mm "Mauser" even though Mauser had nothing to do with it (he designed the rifle, the Mauser 98, that replaced the Gewehr 1888 rifle that originally housed the cartridge). The 7.92x57 is the basis of many other good cartridges, so, the '06 had no option but be good.
Just about every military cartridge of the day was overpowered enough to make a fine do-all hunting rifle lol
The technology in ammo is just making the 06 the best number one ever!!! Gets better every year !!! 😀
Definitely! Godspeed and good hunting to you and yours my friend.
Beautiful expansion. That recovered bullet is a work of art.
I need to make a necklace for my wife out of these
Excellent looking expansion, weight retention, and velocity. The 30-06 is outstanding, I love it, have 4 of them, and my kids hunt with them also.
Nice!
Thanks Chuck,a good performing bullet. Love the 30 06, got to be my all time favorite caliber. I’ve been shooting it since the late 70s.
Nice!
I think 2900 fps for 165 gr monolithic in 30-06 is awesome. That’s way more velocity than most factory 165 gr loads and the all copper bullet should have excellent penetration.
Totally agree 👍
Sako - tikka barrels are faster than others.
Great Information
Thank you. Godspeed and good hunting to you and yours.
The most versatile rifle ever used for hunting
Ehhh maybe... 7mm Rem Mag is better 🤪😁
I like the 7mm magnum but prefer the 30-06 because I'm not a very big guy and a 7mm magnum has a little bit of a stiff recoil for me
I have used 150gmx since they came out in my 300wsm and they have all ways perfect perfect. I also use 130gmx in my 270wsm, I have taken oryx with the 130gmx, and 150gmx
That's awesome. What do you think of the new CX bullets.
Great info, well done. Thank You !
Thank you for watching sir
The CX looks Great in this test !!!
It does look good
I was able to secure some Superformance 139 gr. CX for my 7mm-08. Looking forward to sighting in and testing on game. I have had good success with the 139 gr. GMX at ranges I shoot here in Kentucky. I switched to CX simply because Hornady discontinued the Full Boar ammo line with the GMX. My rifle shoots lights out with the Full Boar GMX. I sure hope the Superformance CX has similar accuracy. If so, I will be pleased.
I hope it shoots well for you too. Please let me know the results.
The 30/06 was modeled after the 7x57 Mauser but in the 30 caliber favored dimension.
Yes it was. Thank you for sharing your historical insight! Godspeed and good hunting my friend.
They even copied the Mauser action design and were forced to pay the Germans a royalty.
I believe the 50bmg is as well. A scaled up 30-06, who’s is just a scaled up 7 Mauser.
Amazing performance chuck. I’d use that for Pennsylvania Whitetail or black bears. Also I really liked that ballistics test.
Thank you and yeah it's great for anything in North America
Can agree .
Really nice set up… never shot the cx but have used Barnes and am very impressed with it 😊
Nice. They're similar
I’ve used both GMX and TSX/TTSX/LRX and been happy with performance of each. 30-06, 270wsm, 270win, 6.5cm, and 223. I just picked up some 308 165 cx and I’m anxious to see if they group well.
I couldn't get these to shoot a decent group with my 7mm-08. They seem like a great bullet. I have settled on the Terminal Ascent from federal in my 308 and my 7 mag. Still working on the 7mm-08.
Terminal Ascent is a great bullet. I've got a video on 7mm Rem Mag
That's a beautiful mushroom right there! Could go right on the cover of We Be Guns n Shit Magazine. Neat how mono bullets will outperform cup n core bullets weighing 25-30 % more.
Cup and core usually separates under high velocities. But do better at distance.
Magnifica munición, de lo mejor de Hornady
Sometimes hornady makes good ammo 🤔
06 has killed EVERYTHING THAT HAS WALKED THIS PLANET!
True
Great performance!!
Agreed
Thank you for watching and the comments! Godspeed and Good hunting
Looks like a solid performer.
Agreed.
Impressive velocity out of this load
I thought so too
Love your videos .
Thank you very much
Good video. Thanks for sharing. Take care.
Thank you bobcat
Once again, great video!
Thank you sir
Super impressive.
Thank you
I'm pretty sure the GMX is the bullet that Hornady TAP loads in the barrier ammunition in 5.56 that I use for defense with gold dot sp's
That's definitely a good round to use
Great test !! excellent expansion. I was wondering how that CX bullet would expand.
Thank you kindly!
That'll definitely do the job I can't believe there's no snow on the ground I thought Alaska was snowy by September
Depends on where you are at. Warm pacific rains right now
@@AlaskanBallistics nice well at least you got more time to prepare for the cold winter
In Valdez, we were usually able to ride snow machines by Halloween or so. It snowed way before that. Haven't lived there since 1985.
I would like to see a test of ELD X bullets.your testing method is excellent IMO
They shread like a v max. I have them in a 6.5cm vs. 25-06 video.
I've also experienced this in 7mm Rem Mag vs A cow caribou.
ruclips.net/video/C7ruKNcNbcA/видео.html
@@AlaskanBallistics that’s too bad. I wouldn’t mind using them on game. Maybe we are spoiled having the CX and Barnes bullets that are like lightening on game.
I would love to see a video where you try out the 180 grain Outfitter CX then do a flash back to the 180 grain Outfitter GMX for an apples to apples comparison of those two. How much improvement there actually is in the expansion in the two is what I am interested in. The fact that they start off right around the 2600 fps mark should make it even more interesting.
I'm going to do a video of barnes ttsx, lrx, nosler etips, hornady gmx and cx. I've got maximum charge rounds loaded and minimum rounds loaded. This is for 7mm Rem Mag. Then I'm going to load all 5 bullets into 7mm-08 with a minimum charge and 18" barrel ( which also loses 150 to 200 fps being a short barrel) to simulate 7mm Rem mag at super long distances.
Nice video.. appreciate it!!!
Thank you!
Nice!
Thank You!
Very impressive velocity for a copper bullet. I get around 2940 from a 24 inch pipe with 165gr interlocks, using superformance powder. Not sure if that's what they use in the loaded ammo though. I only hunt whitetail so I don't see the need for copper bullets in a 30-06.
Fair enough. The copper bullets will destroy less meat from staying together better generally speaking. But I'm glad you've found what you like. Godspeed and good hunting.
@@AlaskanBallistics id imagine that's true, although I have looked at deer my uncle has shot with barnes bullets and the wound tracks don't look all that different. I'm not against using copper bullets but I have boxes of the interlocks I bought back when they were affordable, and they shoot good. Don't exactly feel like spending money and time making up new loads. Good hunting to you as well! My goose season has been great so far, limited all 3 times I've gone out.
Curious to see what the 150gr load does.
Curious how the 165 CX bullets group out of the 1:11 twist barrel of the Tikka T3x. Hornady claims they need a 1:10 twist to stabilize.
They grouped around an inch according to my buddy who has the gun.
For you fellas that are such great shooters that 06 should make an excellent moose gun out to 5 or 600 yds
It definitely does.
You'll have to remind me Chuck. Have you tested any of Norma's Bond Strike line of bullets? Keep seeing them in stock, in 30-06, on their website. They regularly have the Bond Strike 300 Win mag and 300 WSM in stock too.
Can't order it online as I've said many times on the channel. Just picked up a box of 180gr .308 factory ammo, will handload it up
@@AlaskanBallistics That is a shame. Yeah I hadn't caught that memo. Truly one of the down sides to living in Alaska.
I ordered three boxes of the SP 150gr Norma 308, when PSA had them at $13.99 for memorial day. And just tried the 150gr Norma '06 load in my rifle last Saturday. Inch and a half @ 100 with a vintage 70's Savage.
Keep up the good work.
I believe the cx means copper expanding bullet
Could be
I’d say 2900 in a 22” is about what I’d expect for an all copper 165. Won’t get 3k unless you go with a 150 grain.
That's what I figured
I’m shopping around for some copper bullets for my .30-30 and might get some for my .270 Winchester as well. Hard to find good reviews.
These are okay but not for a tube fed gun
Nice
Thank You Very Much
I'd love to see how that round performs at 500 yards, where its velocity has dropped to around 2000 fps. And what about those TTSXs you had on your bench? 😉 Which of the two are you happier with? Thanks for the vid.
LRX is what I hunt with in all working on the cx, trsx, lrx, etip, gmx, bullet comparison video.
Hey Chuck, the 30-06 is seldom a mistake. My fav current rifle is an 06 AI . That velocity is not too shabby out of a 22 inch barrel for a 165 grain. Great to see quality factory ammo. By the way, Tikka is the best selling rifle in New Zealand. Absolutely beautiful expansion! Quality projectile. Thanks to Hornady for producing quality factory ammo. Thanks for sharing Dave
Yeah Tikkas are popular here too. I just don't like the slightly shorter length of pull and the drop in comb is too much
Impressive…..
Agreed
I think copper bullets blow away traditional projectiles. They expand, hold together, and retain weight for penetration.
Absolutely!
Thanks for an outstanding video. What type of game would you use this bullet in your part of the country?
Moose caribou bear muskox
It's sad that they don't have a 277 bullet in the 160 gr class. for WSM or 6.8 western
They do... the nosler ABLR
AB, could try the Hornady CX 225gr in a 338 Win Mag. When you get a chance. I'm trying to find some for a trip to Africa 🌍.
I've seen them for sale, think I've bought some but can't remember
Looks really nice. If you have a sample of the GMX from same/similar test it would be interesting and informative to see. Thanks
I have loaded up 145 gn LRX, 150 grain TTSX, 150gr e-tips, 150gr gmx and 150gr cx in 7mm Rem Mag for a video
@@AlaskanBallistics Would love to see that video.
Got to find another place to shoot
@@AlaskanBallistics I hope you do ! is it tides, access or wildlife that are interfering ? I like how you pick safe locations with back stops.
Access
Now they need that for the 444 Marlin .... I'm sick of the exploding lever revolution ammo
Yep.
Good video presentation of this new round. It will definitely do the job for sure. Very impressive. Thanks for posting and sharing. ♠️🎩🎱🇺🇲🏁🌻🔱🌼💮🌸🔫👊
You're welcome thank you
Have you ever tried the -06 240 grain woodleigh or heard of anyone using it?
No sir
That looked like it could have been a barnes bullet hmmm did somebody copy.
Ironically I'm uploading the .300 win mag superformance version of this right now. I'm thinking it's a copy of the LRX but the petals more flatten than peel back... so probably technically not a copy, but we know lol.
hoping the new 7mm 160 cx will be a great bullet, not impressed with the eldx on game.
ELD-X might n be the worst hunting bullet developed
I'll have a video on the 150gr cx comparing it to etip and ttsx this spring
Hello i also have a tikka t3x and 165gr sst at 2950fps.
What about the new 270win 130gr cx?
Thanks
The CX no matter the caliber or grain weight will be a great bullet, i believe. It'll be a while before I film a test in .270
What has your experience been with groups from the 1-11 twist on the 30-06? Have you tried the 175 terminal ascent?
He gets just under an inch
Have not tried terminal ascent
Why don't you have a portable bench rest?
I need to invest in one
Should shoot one at 100 another at 200 and one more at 300 so we can see what the expansion differences are
Find me a private place to shoot for sure
How bad is the recoil in that tikka t3x 30-06. I heard the tikkas have worse recoil than other guns
It definitely kicks, but no more than similiar weight rifles
@@AlaskanBallistics ok , thank you i’ve been looking to buy a new 30-06 or .308, cant decide what gun I want
@randymitchell8844 you can download the 130gr barnes ttsx to 3000 fps or 3100 fps and still kill any game animal in North America.
ruclips.net/video/czITVf3rEgQ/видео.htmlsi=jN-EOEiLgTGO0atv
I want to see the expansion without hitting a board.
Maybe next time. I've got .308 and .300 win mag to test
Just as good as an SST !!
Way better than that junk bullet! I've got the proof coming up on the channel. The SST won't stay together in a 250gr .338 win mag
Lol. @Dan, you know how to push his buttons!!
Lol and he did it on purpose! But he's a good friend to the channel.
@@AlaskanBallistics This is going to become a Meme 😆
How do you like your wood stocked Tikka 30/06 rifle?
Using a 2x4 is a bit unrealistic
Probably so. Thanks for watching and the suggestion.
How has the Hornady CX grouped at 100 yards.
I'll ask if he's shot it yet
He hasn't checked them for groups yet
30-06 is the best rifle ever made it's a proven cartridge
Proven cartidge yes... best ever made you're forgetting 7mm Rem Mag and .300 win mag
@@AlaskanBallistics I have a Remington 700 CDL 7mm magnum I just use the 30-06 more because the recoil isn't as bad I'm not a very big guy
I put that Is magpool stock on mine And The rifle weighs over 11 pounds I don't feel any Is recoil from it
With all the new bullets coming out, it might be time to find a shooting ares with 250 to 300 yards for real world expansion, penetration testing. More time consuming, I know, but at these short ranges expansion is almost a sure thing. Thanks for the video and information.
Working on it
@@AlaskanBallistics you'll find it, just takes time.
And a swamp to freeze and a snowmachine to get out there
@@AlaskanBallistics dog sled, and a Zamboni to smooth the ice on a frozen lake.
Lol yep
Looks like it has 6 petals instead of 4.
Looks like it! Godspeed and good hunting
I just got some in 300 win mag. Haven't shot them yet. Hope they shoot accurate.
@adamshaw8214 let me know how they work... I'm editing video next week on 165gr CX .300 win mag
So I went to the range with this load in 300 win mag. It was complete garbage. No accuracy whatsoever. One round was so hard to chamber I chunked it. Also had one that made the bolt very tight to open.
@adamshaw8214 not cool. I'm in the process of editing the .300 win mag. Haven't grouped it yet tosh
How is the accuracy?
He said just below an inch in his rifle...
Seems more than enough for bullwinkle...
Agreed
Put you some whiskey in the twist up might as well not waste what you have left of it
?
What kind of groups are you getting at 100 yards?
About 1 inch. His rifle does that with most premium ammo. 0.8 to 1.2 moa
I shoot the 30-06 CX bullet in 180gr
Cool. What speeds are you getting and does it expand the same way?
@@AlaskanBallistics I don’t know the speeds and I have just switched over from the sst brand.
Do people really troll someone for not wearing eye protection? I cant come up with any rational reason for that complaint? Your eyes, your ears, i say do as you please? U seem like you're of age and considered a adult. For the "Karens" that are about to kick the door down and explain the reasoning, when complaining about such as this, do you put the same effort into complaining about what type of clothing is worn when someone is in a cold climate? Or someones physical appearance? Genuinely curious. Seems like a channel that the viwers would be comprised of mostly a male audience
Nope no one has trolled me yet.
Still not as good as the ELD-X or the SSTs
Jason you troll... you've spent too much time around me
Nice
Thank You!
