Honestly had no idea my keyboard could do all of these things, figured they could, but never decided to look. Thanks for being apart of RUclips’s weird algorithm lol
This is like tiger woods playing golf with a set of beginner Wilson golf clubs. Think he would suck? Or still shoot par? It ain’t the instrument, it’s the musician. You, sir are an awesome musician.
"It ain't the instrument; it's the musician..." that... _what?_ If you were going to say "matters," then yes, the instrument matters too, actually. That should be obvious.
samlol23 no it doesn’t if you put a top quality instrument in the hands of a novice vs a crap instrument in the hands of a professional guess who will sound better
Funny how I thought the A/G chords lacked something you seem to hear in the original. When you added the D bass it all clicked in. Grazie ancora Maestro!
Amazing how much life is still left in those old Yamaha XG and XGlite tones they put in these keyboards. I reviewed one of the old 90s synths that had a lot of these same sounds (the Yamaha MU series) and was impressed still by how good they sound! Great video as always ^^
fantastic! I love this idea of reminding us the fun we can have on a low budget. A lot of people can't afford top synths and most of us just started with one cheap keyboard. thanks Paolo!
I own an E403 (excellent keyboard) but a few years later Yamaha bought out the E453 which is an amazing machine. A few subtle synth effects but the range of beats and voices are it's main feature. Brilliant for song writing and on_stage performance.
I think I'm going to buy a Yamaha YPT360 and see if I can play this. My friends jam together with their guitars, but this could add a little something. It just takes me weeks to learn the songs (I've tried harmonica), but now I have all this extra time on my hands. Thanks for dumbing it down for me. You should make more videos like this for the beginner.
Fantastic Paolo! I've seen so many complicated tutorials on this song . You've broken it down to essentially what it is and all one needs to know. Stay well.
Thank you so much for taking the time and discussing each and every voice and patch that you used, as well as how to set them up. A lot of people that get on RUclips for these demonstrations do not do this. It sounds pretty close.
my first keyboard is an earlier variation on these series a decade ago. here is Seattle things are a rollercoaster, but im survivin. practicing music and art help keep a proactive functional attitude to counter a lot of the fear and gloom going around right now. to be of service and appreciate those we care for is redeeming. keep yer head up Bud, and keep sharing your wisdom! (p.s. i'm thinkin about gettin the korg wave state)
Thanks for that. As a young musician, I could never figure the vamp out ... because of the D pedal in the bass, I somehow thought the right hand voicings (G to A) must be something more complicated....take care...
Nice one Paulo...nice easy explanation and demonstration so that absolute beginners like me can grasp it. And the fact you used an affordable keyboard was also gr8! My only keyboard is a Yamaha DJX. Take care Liked and shared
I have a PSR-295, which was the older version of the E-403 (2004 for mine). That GM/XGlite bank is a treasure trove of sounds that aren’t terrible and fill out the sound selection nicely. Also gigged with a YPG-235 (basically the same thing in 76 keys, a few new sounds, and a pitch wheel). I depended on the GM pad, synth and string sounds for in the church band. They weren’t actually too bad in a mix. DX+Analg was a standby for backing the acoustic piano sometimes. The cheap Yamahas actually can be pretty flexible in certain regards if you can work with the overall sound and aren’t doing tons of parts.
I had this very keyboard in 2007... it wasn't too bad really... it was nice that it actually had some synth controls! Especially a resonant lowpass filter. Yeah it wasn't very good but it was better than nothing. Now I have a bunch of synths but this started it.
Great tutorial! And good sound combo 👍 I started learning keys on a 403 and owned one for many years, still working good when I handed it on to a friend last year. Some great features and reasonably good sounds for a fairly low-cost board. Stay safe and keep them coming 👍
Some of the most fun you can have is with some old budget fixed-preset FM / PD keyboard. Had a roommate one time who had something like a Casio PT-1 or something like that and it was cool to mess around with it... I had access to modern VSTs and the little PT-1 was still more fun in some ways.
Wow, it's very surreal watching Paolo playing a synth that looks almost exactly like the one we have in our upstairs loft (also a PSR series, just a slightly lower number). And yes it's affordable (unless you're useless and unemployed like me hahaha) but it's also a great practice keyboard if you're not trying to do anything too fancy. Some of the patches actually sound really nice.
With that same keyboard make a multi-track recording and do all the overdubs for all the other sounds in the song. Maybe run the chords though a chorus or something. It was a great video.
Great thanks Paolo for yours video ! We share the same 80 th music... We are confined at home by Coronavirus and you make sunshine in my day... FRED France
You made (again!!) my day Paolo! Take care and many thanks for this usefull tuto (i learnt it a few months ago, in another key that was much more difficult to play!!) - Regards from France - Mysterio FTS

It was the first instrument i ever learned in general in my life, in the middle 2000s and now today, i play 12 instruments and run the theatrical music project PHYSICAL EMOTION. This exact keyboard started my ENTIRE music career! So yes. This video made my whole week! I still have this keyboard to this day, nearly 20 years later! Only half of the keys work on it, but i still use it every now and then!
Hi Paulo! Greetings from India. Brilliant playing and application of the limited musical resources of the keyboard.Kudos!!! Could you do an episode on the Solton Ketron Programmer-24, a rare but classic 'Italo Disco Machine', which I think you might have access to.
I clicked because I want to rule the world on an affordable keyboard
Lol
Me too..thought now in this hard times ..time for keyboards...
Welcome to your life.
LOL that's funny because I didn't know there was a song named that, so basically this is my reason LMAO
Everybody does

Wow, I’ve had one of these for 10 years and never realised it could do all this. Will have to dig it out and have a play.

Paulo makes trash pcm arranger keyboards sound better than I can make 2k moogs sound.
It's not the camera that making pictures, it's a Photographer.
Its affordable but its not trash
xkidmidnightx I was thinking the same thing.
You can make any instrument sound good if you have great musicality.
SynthGuy777 there’s a limit to that, reason why you don’t see people making genuine music with meowsics
You are great, Paolo.

Man, how cool is this?!?! Great job! I have a PSR-423 and can't wait to try it!
Thank you and have fun!
Sounds great!!!! Nicely done
Thanks for listening
Thank you! You’re a very good teacher. You don’t complicate matters.
You can make a video playing piece of music each day on just this instrument and I’d watch every video. It’s very inspiring.

That was great. Gonna give it a try on the psr 453. Do more of these instructional videos.
Thank you - I do them fairly regularly on the channel, if you check the video history.
Thanks Paolo. Love these kinds of tutorials/lessons.

The bass really lit up the whole song!
I am astonished you squeezed so much out of a puny keyboard!
Thank you, Arnav
This is an excellent concept Paulo. Would love to see you make more of these. Hope you and your family are healthy and well

I could listen to you play that forever... that song is 80s iconic... 🤩😎👍🏽
Thats really good, simple, helpful, and FUN!
Thank you!
Paul, thank you!
Dude, this sounds legit! Sounds great for an affordable keyboard.
It does!
*Please perform the theme from The Terminator for us before it's too late.*
Good to see you posting again...bit of synth light during these stormy times 😀
Thanks man. This is my all time favorite song.
ooh.. i went and dusted off my old acustic fivestringed bass and tuned down the h string and jammed along with you.. so much fun!
But you gotta figure out how to hit the "fill-in" button real fast about every 8 bars in order to cop the song's occasional drum lick.
Wow. Brings back soo many memories
Honestly expected some kind of meme video, and instead it's just a very informative, well made, and interesting video. Awesome work!

More of stuff like that. I‘ve got a Yamaha PSR740 and am very inspired now. Great video.
I tried it on my PSR740 today. I used as VoiceR1 DXPad, as VoiceR2 Jump Brass, on the left side Analog Bass and 8Beat 3 as rhythm. Much fun. :-).
Love that song. It sounded pretty good on this keyboard.
