The DC-3 looks badass with turboprop engines, just checked this airframes history and it has had quite the past. Hard to believe it has been around since World War 2 times and it's still going strong!
One of the best aircraft ever made. Fantastic workhorse and economical to fly. You don't see too many aircraft still in service with these kind of years on her. Let's see if some 71 year old jets are even in the air like this old girl
Wow beautiful footage, dude! They're so elegeant! I'm gonna fly with one myself next ish week. This month for sure. It's weather dependable, but will be somewhere this month!
DC3 has free tail wheel, must be controlled by rudder & propwash or left/right main wheel brake. On this vid seems so tail wheel is not connected to rudder.
Their economic niche is secure. When Kirk and Spock drop off the Enterprise in the Bonyard they will fly out on a DC-3. Notice that the Concorde and the Constellation as well as many commercial and military propeller and jet transports are obsolete. The DC-3 is, by definition, a state of the art aircraft. My Dad , who worked for Eastern Air Lines from 1940 till 1987, explained to me why the DC-3 would always make money and the Constellations would all go away. "In a few years no one will be able to make money operating Constellations." That was in 1967 . I was 11 and was outraged that the airline was going to stop oprating the Connie in 1968. Because it was way cool. Still is. But you can't make money operting it. Then we walked over to a DC-3 that had obviously just been refurbished and beautifully painted by someone. He said: "Someone will always be able to make money operating this airplane." Hundreds of them still do it every day. The DC-3 has a lot of history behind it and a lot of history in front of it.
I'm a big fan of the DC-3, and I know that the extensive airframe and systems strengthening, remanufacturing, and modification that Basler does is superb, but I just can't stomach turbo-prop engines for this plane. They ruin much of the magic and mystique of the DC-3 because of their "buzzy" sound, in my estimation. They make the DC-3 sound like an angry mosquito instead of a majestic bumblebee.
While I like most aviation enthusiasts love the smell and sound or big radial engines, the reality is that the big piston engine days are numbered. Parts are getting rare and much more expensive. The people that know how to love and care for these engines are passing. And lastly environmental concerns about leaded gasoline is making them too expensive. A turbine is much more reliable resulting in lower insurance costs.
Tower/plane communication quality is also from the time this DC-3 was built. I really can't understand how a critical and security issue like communications in airplanes is so bad. Even my cell phone sound quality is way way way way better and I don't fly an airplane with it.

It sure does! Thanks for watching :)

The entire b52 fleet, and most of the 135s...
Absolutely right.... the only replacement for a DC-3 is another DC-3! LOL I love it!
Gorgeous. Just in love with the Dakota ❤❤❤❤
What a great catch! This is a piece of aviation history. Liked a lot :)
Thank you! :)
I flew in these before people ever heard of a "turbo prop.
Awesome camera work catching this real classic. Nice to have the information!
Great matching of power plant to a vintage aircraft. Hope she is still flying in another 50 years.
its wonderfull to look how slow its getting in the air
Wonderful!
Very good, nice filming! This plane is still good looking even at 40 years old! :)
Rik B Then I must have used the wrong reg#. The one in description must be wrong?
C-GKKB used to be a Beech 99, that's why there's conflicting information :)
No flaps and he was off that quick! Remarkable.
Fantastic footage of that lovely old plane!
AWESOMEEE! Really amazing catch here, phenomenal work! This small prop is old, but still looks incredible - liked :D

Thanks for watching! That would be quite an experience!
Great video mate! Awesome catch! Liked!

Very nice catch, man! A classic! P.S why would an airline fly from Calgary to Calgary? :P Liked! :)
Great catch! :D

With turboprops it became more beautiful.

Piston- it's on the ground, probably waiting to be recycled into a lump of aluminum. Turboprop- it's in the air. Pretty simple choice to me.

El avión más hermoso... pero el sonido de sus motores Pratt & Whitney no puede faltar....
What is the power of the engines?
Neat aircraft!
nice!
The sound just doesn’t match the plane 😆😆
ill take 3
I flew in these as a BLM firefighter in Alaska.

The ATC audio was recorded off a scanner, so there's bound to be quality loss. The actual audio that the pilots and ATC hear is much more clear.
My God, such a looker!
A sassy sexy DC-3 . The original Yummy Mummy.
That plane looks so old and ugly...
But I would still fly on it. :P
You gotta love the classic airplanes! :)
Awesome catch, Liked! :)
