I miss all those old NES booklets, with Syren tits and sexually confused pink creatures who spit eggs. In all seriousness though...the old booklets were always so much fun to look through. They were always such a big part of the nostalgia for me. Most games don't even come with booklets anymore.
That was one of your best reviews in a while. It was amusing without going off on a side story and a ton of extra graphics. Jokes were relatively subtle and it had reoccurring themes, like the meter. Well done.

The barrel is actually used to store waterglasses you can pick up which restores your health, and with the barrel you can carry eight glasses. If you have a barrel already however you shouldn’t buy it from the store.
As others have said, I'd much rather you do classic style reviews like this than those embarrassing storylines and comedy skits. This kind of video takes less time to make AND is more enjoyable to watch.

Yeah, it's weird. The name Icarus comes from the Greek Myth of Icarus and Daedalus. Daedalus made a pair of wings for himself and his son, Icarus flew too close to the Sun which melted the wax and he fell to his death. So, I guess the connection is strictlly based on the similarities between the mythical Icarus and Pit.
3:14 Chris forgot to say that the Barrel holds 8 Potions of Life. Without it, Pit can only hold 1 at a time. It's important to mention the Barrel. You also can't buy a second Barrel, so you will never worry about accidentally getting it from the Black Market if you have enough Hearts or use the Credit Card. Finally, Chris failed to mention that the Black Market dealer ALWAYS laughs at you REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU BUY. Chris has become really uneducated about the games he plays nowadays.
the Irategamers humor is somewhat cheesy...but i love it ^.^ it actually got me to chuckle where as normal humor doesn't really strike me the same way. keep it up
Well put! for whatever reason his humor just works for me. I am in no way a prude and will watch raunchy comedy but often I'll laugh more at this type of stuff than anything else. It is great content to watch when you have a little free time to relax and he doesn't have to be vulgar or make cheap jokes to get you to laugh.
The weird thing is that the AVGN-episodes are starting to feel more like Irategamer-episodes because of all the random skits. He even did a press-your-luck gag which i remember Chris did in one of his episodes.

Great video as always Chris. I liked the difficulty meter with all the difficulty names. Seeing the irate gamer show brings back memories of when I was 10 watching episodes like Rob and Super mario bros 2.
Back then, most of us had only a few games and it was okay to play them for ages and entually get better. I think the problem is that today, you have so much to chose from and I don't seem to have the patience to focus on one title for a very long time.
Your supposed to level up to get more health. You have an invisible experience stat that gets lower every time you get hit or miss with an arrow, but goes up every time you hit something. So you just have to grind in each level for a while hoping you get a life bar extension between levels.
Irate Gamer is like, so bad it's good. Unlike AVGN, which in recent years has fallen from grace and James only sees it as a money making machine now, Chris still holds passion for his character.

I dont think this game is hard, I beat this game 3 years ago, and I was 13, I died alot but beat it two times, I had lots of fun, When people say this game is hard, I laugh, and say my counter argument
If you think that's frustrating, I've played the NES version of Fun House which was supposed to be like the game show from the 1980's. That game was irritating.
The NES had a crapload of games that never got a much-deserved sequel, or got one 10-20 years after they should've received one. Kid Icarus is one of those games. I hear the 3DS game was fun, but it wasn't the Kid Icarus sequel I was expecting. Same thing with Excitebike. A sequel could've added more tracks, a deeper single player mode, 2 player races and a save feature for your created tracks (yeah, I know the Japanese Famicom had a save feature, but I live in Oklahoma...).
Chris, could you review the Famicom game "Takeshi's Challenge"? I heard that it's even harder than THIS game. Harder than probably any game you have ever played.
I always hated what Nintendo had done to Kid Icarus. I was so excited to see Pit in Smash, he was one of those child hood video game icons to me. Then they started pussyfying him and making his game a shooter. Ugh, I want that vertical platform style back.
I love your KISS method (Keep it simple and stupid)..I'd rather say (Keep it simple and sensational). Ok sensational may be over the top and somewhat of a kiss ass but you're doing a great job with your episodes. Simple and fun to watch. no need to complicate things. I love this simple old school style.
Good, I haven't seen Kid Icarus reviewed by an angry reviewer yet. I want to like the series, but it's fricken hard. Why didn't it get the SNES treatment like Metroid did, because I know SNES would have nailed it and made this franchise something more.
Of all the jokes, the eggplant wizard stuff made my night. I should feel bad I've never played Kid Icarus, and I do. Captain N was my only exposure to the game till I was a lot older. And I've just never got around to it.

Great game I played as a kid in the late 80s/early 90s. I couldn't make it very far without putting in a password though. Those stores were a joke too because you never had enough hearts to buy anything anyway.

The game is pretty easy (Well, every world apart from the first one) as long as you grind to Max Level on the first level and remember to get all of the special weapons and weapon upgrades.

If that were that case, he would have mentioned that you can use the hammers (acquired by collecting the heart and killing enemies for a short time) to collect Centurions, which will help you in the boss fights.

I bought the 3D Classics version of this game from the Nintendo eShop recently. The visuals are great, first time playing ever. Challenging, but fun!
