Great to see the possibility of the Y/T channel coming back. I started my electronics/audio learning from this channel, and have become relatively self sufficient in operation, troubleshooting and repairs. Look forward to interesting projects here, happy new year Mark!

Recorded and mixed many albums on 604Es, many with Mastering Lab custom crossovers (you will like them), some with an additional woofer. One of the best was a single speaker ported set in Studio 1 at Sunset Sound Hollywood sized very similar to yours. Those tracks played everywhere brilliantly and were used to set up many systems. Lovely, detailed sound. Miss making music on em. (We also cut out the divider cells in the tweeters on most of the systems which I don't think anyone would have the guts to do at this point)

13:58 Thank you for the shoutout on the patch panel! The dummy load at my bench was inspired by one of your early videos so glad I was able to “pay you back” a bit. Your benches look great! Love the Tek mainframes.

To be honest, I had no idea they made keystone jacks for all these inputs, otherwise I "may" have dreamt this up sooner. Thanks for your video, it did inspire me. I don't work with a lot of XLR so going to solve that otherwise but the patching to devices is genious.

Great update Mark! Lots of interesting projects that I’m looking forward to seeing. You’ve inspired me to dig out an old 1958 Realistic Mark 7 broadcast turntable and tonearm that I’ve had stored away for years. Happy New Year!

Loved at the look at the "behind the scenes" of your hobby as I'm sure many of us share the same interests of the listening side of things. And it's refreshing to see something other than the workbench projects sprinkled in every now-and-then (mind you, occasionally, LOL). Happy New Year to All!

Hey Mark. I remember seeing two Fairchild broadcast turntables way back in 1977 or 78. They were from a San Francisco radio station. - Surplus sale. As I remember. The had a large (25 pounds?) flywheel in the cabinet below and a driveshaft to the platter above. It was somehow clutched to engage - disengage the platter. Because the flywheel was always at speed, when engaged, the platter would go from a from a dead stop to 33 and 1/3 RPM in less than 1/2 of a single revolution . I would imagine that the WOW and Flutter would be very low because of the inertia of the flywheel. I have always wanted one of these because of that design.
Now that I have moved from Washington state to Tennessee, I hope to see you picking tubes at the Shelby Hamfest !

Mark, I have to admit your hamfest walk through videos have inspired me to go to the Dayton hamvention this year and I can not wait. I have not been since I was probably 13 or so which was way back in the mid 80's when my dad was active as a ham.

So great to hear from you and I can see you've been busy! You seem to have so many projects on the go, it is obvious you are having a ball! Each of the projects you've shown us here look so interesting, I would be extremely grateful for you to take us down the rabbit hole on any one of them.
I'm also glad you get to spend time just listening to music or noodling on guitar. The closer I get to the music, the less pull I have to tinker further and that is surely the point of this hobby! Wishing you a happy and prosperous 2025, Mark.

Happy New Year! So many projects, can’t wait to see future videos! Here in my little hideaway (the small Isle of Anglesey, or “Ynys Mon” to us Welsh) there’s a tiny fraction of anything interesting HiFi-wise to buy that you see, but I do have a few completely DIY projects for 2025…a couple of tonearms (three if I can work out the design), speakers, valve based phono/RIAA stage and some KT88 monoblocks - should keep me busy (oh, and if I don’t run out of time, another turntable). But then, I have retired and I can wholeheartedly recommend it!

The issue with the Tannoys is that they don't have drivers for the top end. What looks like Altecs, with the wave guide compression drivers, they should have the classic Altec/WE sound. I've never heard any in my nearly sixty years. I wonder if they image?

Was the 807 amp you showed in this video before or after your Kegger/Blueglow KT88 project? I built the KT88 amp but converted it to 1625 tubes (12v heater version of 807). I would be interested in the circuit of your 807 amp and the difference between it and the KB KT88 circuit.

Happy New Year !!! I love your videos and it's good to see another Altec Model 14 owner, although mine are highly modified with a dbx Driverack as the crossover and Crown D-75 amps in a three-way bi-amped setup. Are you running yours with the stock crossovers? Mine sounded horrible with the originals in place.

Love the teal theme. Are there any modern speakers that you listen to? I think that, if you get a chance to listen, you'd really...
I was in the middle of writing this to recommend some open baffle speakers, and suddenly the Linkowitz speakers appeared...

The LAST thing I'll say is that I kinda wanted to challenge you to build a high powered - 50-100w - SE Tube Amp using one of the good transmitter tubes. Like the 811A, 845 or one of those types of tubes. Looks like you don't need it with those mint cabs, but the rest of us won't get a hold of those spks. We need power...

10:09 Yuck! Toss it in the bin! Better: convert to a chicken coop/dog house.
14:30 '80s Naim set for the lab bench? That's hardcore.
15:10 What the ... ? Imagine having to ever replace one of these coils! This must be one loudspeaker where the crossover is more expensive than the rest of it.
6:35 Which videos feature these type 50 and type 211/845 Ken Uesugi amps? What could possibly replace a type 50 amp?

you mentioned a Nelson Pass First watt amp - my question is which Amp? i have a couple of F5M clone PCB's i got for 9 quid (British pounds sterling) each off of ebay, i have my RS shopping cart filled with most of the required parts, it would be serendipitous if yours is an f5 too? I would very much like to know because i will have to get my RS order completed before the harder to find Silicon gets much harder to find when you tell everyone how to build a good one!
