    Why do all aliens have to be “advanced” life forms?? Why can’t there be alien cavemen??

    • @shniss5403
      @shniss5403 6 лет назад +49

      JayDHD Well it comes down to probability, in terms of the earth and our solar system we are fairly young, life here has been around for about 3.8 billion years. The universe as a whole is about ~14 billion years old. This gives life on older planets/ solar systems the chance to be billions of years more evolved and advanced than us. It just comes down to us being a fairly young planet.

    • @heyimanameheyimalastname
      @heyimanameheyimalastname 6 лет назад +45

      They don't have to be; there very may well be teeming hordes of non-advanced aliens, but we have no way of detecting them to confirm their existence and they have no way of reaching or contacting us. In fact, if one theoretical answer to the Fermi paradox is correct - that civilization is simply too prone to destroying itself, or that planets are too volatile and prone to natural mass extinctions, to allow for the eons of uninterrupted advancement necessary to reach extra-solar or even extra-galactic colonization - then cavemen-level aliens would be by far the most common sentient life.

    the 2 main possible reasons of why we aliens havent visited us/we have found no evidence of intelligent life:
    1. it is impossible for any being that follows our understanding of physics to reach that level of advanced technology before the species destroys itself via overpopulation/disease/war etc everything humans are going through now
    2. it may just literally be impossible to travel between galaxies/solar systems regardless of how technologically advanced a species gets- depressing but i believe the most likely reason

    • @yourfavouritenarcissist
      @yourfavouritenarcissist 6 лет назад +5

      So basically you're saying, it's possible other aliens exist, however it can be impossible we will (or they will) ever know, because we all kill ourselves beforehand?

      Your reason #1 is an incredibly egocentric hypothesis that projects your own conceptualization of the human condition onto every potential alien life-form in the unknown universe, completely ignoring an uncountable number of variances that could distinguish hypothetical species from humans and human society.
      Example: You incorrectly assume overpopulation would be one of three inevitable downfalls of these alien species. The main reason overpopulation is a problem in our society is our ability to derive pleasure from sex: A unique trait amongst even species on our planet, so there's no scientific reason to assume it would be a trait shared by every intelligent extraterrestrial species.
      Another of the inevitable downfalls that you've ascribed to all hypothetical alien species is war. But imagine for a moment, an intelligent species defined by collective sensory experiences or gestalt intelligence? It stands to reason that such a species would be predisposed to avoiding conflict, such as war. They might not even be capable of comprehending the concept of "war" as we know it, any more then we might be capable of comprehending their methods of intergalactic travel.

      @ChickensFTW it's a real solution to the fermi paradox. The idea is, that super advanced civilizations would eventually have to become organized and relatively peaceful and have a conscience of some sort to survive as long as they have.
      They may not trust humanity to not get a hold of their tech and kill ourselves or another civilization. It might be that they think it's wrong to expose us to that kind of advancement at s time when we arent ready for that kind of power. Which makes sense. We can't handle the power our civilization holds right now.

    22:00 if a hypothetical alien civilization were to be keeping track of us and rate our ethical codes, I don't think they'd be watching how we treat each other as much as they would be watching how we treat those who are not human. In this scenario, this outside civilization is scouting our ability to live alongside those who are not like us -- not our species.
    Maybe we need to treat animals more ethically to rank higher on that scale?
    Just a thought. Opinions?

    If the universe is truly infinite then there's an infinite number of other planets with people exactly like us but slightly different in different ways. Life is just so rare that there is maybe a handleful of life forms besides us in our galaxy. It's millions of light years to the next galaxy which is so far away that life hasn't been able to traverse the distance needed to reach us. Furthermore it took life 6 billion years to get to the point of self aware humans 200 thousand years ago... Nearly half the age of the universe to create us.... Life hasn't had the time it needs to reach out quite yet.

    If they exist im sure they have a rule about not contacting us anyway like we have rules about contacting indigenous tribes, there isnt any real reason for them to visit us anyway especially if they've advanced so far to how we theorise them to be. The only reason I can understand would be seizing of resources but even then this is usually rendered null by the technological superiority since im sure they are self sufficient and do not rely on a finite resource to live, who says they even need to breathe, eat or drink. Im sure it comes down to how inquisitive our friends are feeling.

    In Halo there is a similar philosophy called the Mantle of Responsibility, created by the Precursors, the very original life forms. It is essentially the stewardship of all life in the galaxy, the Mantle says nothing about said "Reclaimers" not being able show their presence to pre slip space beings.
    The Federations prime directive seems more along the lines of non interference to any pre warp society, full stop. Even if they could be saved.

    Honestly, I think a very likely answer becomes pretty evident if you simply look at the history of life on Earth; there are mass extinctions that wipe out 75-90% of life on the planet *extremely* regularly, in terms of the scale of time necessary for intelligent life to develop. And then once you do get to the level of civilization, you have collapses of that civilization to deal with as well; it's happened multiple times in our own history, around 1200 BC when the Bronze Age Mesopotamian civilizations collapsed and again when Rome collapsed, both leading to societal regression and hundreds of years of stagnation. We even have a term for it: Dark Ages. And it's not as if it's impossible for it to happen again either; we like to think that the internet has saved us from such a thing, but all it would take is a flipping of the Earth's magnetic axis (due to happen pretty soon in the planetary timescale) or a solar megaflare from the sun to destroy our entire electronic infrastructure, and the more dependent we are on it the worse it will be when it happens.
    The only hope I can see is successfully colonizing Mars or Venus to better our odds a bit, but there are plenty of catastrophes that affect the entire solar system as well, and who knows how long it will be between extra-planetary travel and extra-solar travel... It seems to me that the time limit a species has to advance itself to the point of extra-solar travel is simply far too small for it to be a realistically achievable thing, and that's why we don't see them; they don't exist, even if alien life does.

    • @El_ven1
      @El_ven1 2 года назад +1

      Finally, a worthy opponent.
      I see where you are going, however i disagree and agree with your second paragraph.
      The Moon would be a much better choice the Venus. First, a Moon Colony would be much more "adaptable" because it is much closer the Venus, so communications or supplies would get to and back from the Moon and Earth much faster then Earth or Venus. Second, the Moon would offer a new variety of obstacles which would lead to new technological advances for Humanity. It would have much more room for a Propulsion Cannon, which would be a Mega-Structure for Humanity, as it would allow for much much faster travel to colonize the rest of the Sol System, which would then give us extreme amounts of new materials and resources to work with for new advances. Now for your alien life statement. My view is that you believe that the time it would take for Alien Life to develop ships capabale of interstellar travel is far to low. Well, Modern Humans 65,000 - 50,000 Years ago only had cave art, stone tools, fire, small huts and basic weapons for defending and hunting. But now in such a short time frame we are already preparing to send people to Mars using Space Ships. Think about that for a few seconds. Now, many other intelligent alien species could have evolved much much much earlier then the first ever Humans appeared, which would give them a huge time advantage for technological progress. My best guess would be that Humanity isn't to far behind in the Galactic Technological Scale, as I think that most alien "empires" would have just colonized the outermost planet in their solar system and have either just began to develop ships capable of Interstellar Travel or just finished those types of ships and just arrived in a new solar system.
      I may be wrong in the last sentence as there could not even be others which is highly unlikely due to practically infinite planets and only 1 having life, or there already may by Galactic Empires, who knows? We don't have any evidence proving or denying it.
      This was just my view, have a good day.

      @@El_ven1 Sure, it's only been less than 100k years since we were cave people, but that ignores the millions of years of evolution before that which were necessary for us to even get that far. It's not as if any random species can just suddenly one day start picking up rocks to use as tools and bam, they're instantly on the path to becoming as advanced as humans within 50k years

      @@El_ven1 Yeah, I get that, but I'm saying that advancement is built upon what came before, so looking only at that timeframe doesn't really provide any meaningful insight into the chance of life progressing to our level of technology. the fact that we are located on a xo planet isn't the only reason we are here, the events that occurred to our planet from the time it was created played just as an important role, to think that if the dinosaurs hadn't of gone extinct we most likely would be here today

    I think our level of consciousness has to do with how and why we can't make contact with extra terrestrials, but they can with us.
    Another level of consciousness means living on a whole different dimensional plane/reality.
    And we aren't there yet because we haven't learned to use our hearts to love each other as the human beings we are.
    Our minds are young. We are young as a species. But our souls, energy bodies, or spirits whatever the term may be... are the most ancient wonder about us and our soul, energy bodies, or spirits are connected with our hearts, not our minds.

    If I were an alien, and was sagacious enough to traverse the universe and I found earth, what would my next move be? Well let's evaluate, I would look at how the specious I had found interacted with each other. Ok with greed, misogyny, antisemitism, xenophobia, homophobia, and so on being ubiquitous; I would have some doubts whether it would be prudent for me to make first contact, being a foreigner and all.
    Next, I would look at how each continent reacts with each other. Ok, with the U.S threatening North Korea and North Korea returning those threats and all the many other squabbles each country has with one and other. I would be pondering if this beautiful blue planet's residents were on the verge of committing world war three, as an alien this would also make me think long an hard about visiting.
    Then, of course, there's all those noxious gases being pumped into the atmosphere, the muggings, murders, thefts, burglars, agrivated assaults, child abuse, animal abuse, spousal abuse, drug and drink abuse, and... I really couldn't be bothered to carry on, I have things to attend to you know.
    From an outsiders point of view, they would think the species they had newly discovered were not quite affable and amenable enough to visit. They would probably find us primitive and animal like in our behaviour and would probably be to scared to visit us. What would my next move be? Run, run as fast as possible, run as though my life depended on, because it probably would. What would your next move be? 😊😊

      ImperialChrome I guess, I believe, if aliens have technology powerful enough to traverse the universe and have not yet destroyed themselves with such power. Then I would hope that, not only would have they evolved their technology, they would have evolved a truly altruistic society as well. If they haven't, then all I can say is God help us. An alien race with prodigious power and our morals woul be our end. 😊😊

      Funny how any society that practices this kind of backwards, pathological altruism is normally conquered, absorbed and lucky to be a footnote in history whilst stronger groups actually capable of getting us into space are themselves the products of conquerors, discriminators, etc. If _any_ race with a thinking pattern/moral capacity similar to our own (and by "our" own I'm talking about post-enlightenment, post-60's western ideals; ideals that aren't actually that common in other places of the world) has accomplished the feat of interstellar travel, then they've done it with a history of putting their own to the sword for millennia
      . Perhaps they eventually got out of that funk; by sheer mathematics and the vastness of space literally anything is possible, but please don't presume that our planet is inhabited by some sort of unique evil.

    Couple of questions..
    1. Why is it so hard to believe that life would be an extremely rare circumstance? Just because the possibilities are endless doesn't mean that every possibility is going to happen often. If you include spacetime in everything that exists, which you would have to because it's necessary for anything to exist, then it's mathematically proven with numbers defined and measured by science that matter is the EXCEPTION to everything that exists. Matter only makes up 0.000001..% of everything that exists, where spacetime makes up 99.999999..% of everything that exists. We are the EXCEPTION to spacetime. Spacetime quite literally FILLS US, we do not fill spacetime. So if matter itself can be a very tiny portion of everything that exists, then to me it would only make sense that life could also be an extremely rare circumstance/an extremely rare possibility at least in comparison to the circumstances around us that are observable by us. Or it could even be possible that we're at either the beginning or the end of all the possibilities/circumstances of life happening. Meaning, we just so happen to be at the very beginning of the existence of all life, meaning WE are the first advanced lifeform to exist and are in fact the most evolved lifeform out there. Or it could be the other way around, we could be at the END of all advanced lifeforms existing and just happen to be the ONLY advanced lifeform out there that happened to survive the evolution of everything that exists. If anything and everything is possible, then EITHER of those possibilities are also possible. Doesn't mean it's a common occurrence, but we just happen to be that rare occurrence.
    2. If aliens or lifeforms that are more advanced than us DO in fact exist, what makes you think they would send themselves to investigate us? How do you know that they don't look at us as a possible threat to their existence? If we ourselves were to investigate our galaxy for advanced lifeforms wouldn't we ourselves be concerned about exposing ourselves to them? You don't think we would be worried about possibly exposing ourselves to something that could possibly be even MORE advanced than us and be a threat to us as an entire species? If there are in fact aliens and/or more advanced lifeforms out there, I highly doubt they would be dumb enough to send themselves to us, rather than send some highly advanced AI technology to investigate us, so they don't have to themselves. Not to mention, the more advanced a lifeform is in relation to us, the less likely we would even be able to conceptualize them, let alone detect them. It would be like comparing ourselves to an ant. An ant isn't going to have any concept of what a human being is let alone be able to detect us, all they're going to understand is that there's some kind of giant being out there that could possibly step on them and kill them in an instant. They're not going to understand anything about us beyond that.
