    You left out that rougarou are terrified of frogs.
    I know they live in a swamp, but it’s a common part of the legend that they freeze up if a frog croaks nearby and they run away if they lay eyes on.
    Why live in a swamp then? Well, they can’t count past twelve, I’m sure you guys can figure it out.

  • @seafossil2221
    @seafossil2221 2 года назад +121

    There's one cryptid in the Appalachia that is kinda similar to the Rougarou when it comes to protecting yourself. It has a compulsion to count things which resulted in traditions like hanging a broom over doors that lead outside, throwing a handful of mustard seeds on your front and back doorsteps, using newspapers as wallpaper, and other things like what I just mentioned. These things trigger this creature's compulsion to count things and it will try to count every broom bristle, every seed on the ground, every letter on the paper, etc to keep it occupied until daylight when its power is at its weakest.
    I was told this by a family member when I was really little but never told the name because apparently if you have any ties at all to that part of the US (where they lived) you're not supposed to say it's name. I don't like calling it a cryptid because I think it's tied to actual beliefs but I don't really know how else to describe or label it. If anyone who is from that area and practices the traditions I mentioned please forgive me if I got something wrong or inaccurate. If I did I would love to be pointed in the right direction towards correct information where I can learn more about it and other traditions or beliefs

    Cyptids are fun, and I've seen some crazy stuff myself, but for the most part all they are is storys, unles you see one yourself you can't say they exist.
    And even then your eyes can play tricks on you.

    Loved Flatwoods since childhood, and even have Flatwoods as one of my bucket lists to visit. So sad that they are very obscure because there's probably only one or two incidents and it's in the middle of nowhere unlike the Mothman (lame cryptid tbh). Best character design.
