it works in reverse, you data mine, see a possibility to trigger a line of code and you reverse engineer it to trigger it as early in the game as possible. Probably many ways to get the same result, the Abra is maybe just the earliest

This is possible. It depends on how you name the boxes. The Pomeg Berry glitch allows you to execute arbitrary program code. The names of the boxes are interpreted as program code, so you can inject code which gives you a Mew there.
This kinda shit works because of how insanely busted and simple but at the same time insanely complicated and random the code for old Pokémon games is. RNG manipulation sums it up well, basically everything calculated was calculated by something else with 0 correlation to the other thing, which is basically why this works

Because the data of the egg is corrupted and the PokéRus flag is just a bit which can be 0 or 1, so it is very likely that a corrupted Pokémon has it.
