SEPTA assistant conductor here!! Really appreciate these detailed videos cause they help with learning interlocks ect for when we go into our promotion class
Used to ride this line (R5) just about every day 1992-1994, again 1998-1999. Back then it was paper ticket, conductor came through to punch it with odd shapes, walk from car to car calling out the stops. All the names still ring true but the landscape is almost unrecognizable. Thanks for the ride!
28:48 On the left, you can see what remains of the Ft. Washington branch interlocking "Y" (Wye??) from Chestnut Hill West. On the other side of the Oreland station at about 30:08, you can see the abandoned rails in the weeds on the other end of the "Y". The Ft. Washington interlocking must have looked very different when it was an active line decades ago. Nice video!
Excellent capture! This engineer certainly uses the K3LA horn to it's full potential! I hear these Silverliners come through Ambler all the time, and it's pretty easy to tell who's operating by how they blow the horn.
@@hornshowrailfan2554 Yeah, a lot of the engineers on SEPTA really don't care about doing a perfect crossing sequence. There is one engineer on SEPTA that I've heard that literally blows through playing with the horn. It's hilarious to watch!
OMG. I always miss it when you come down here. Next time you come il take you to a great hoagie spot and you can ride the double-end K Cars to get there. Even though im a Philly native i lived right off the LIRR mainline in Carle Place. So glad they got that 3rd track in.
Hello Tim from Orlando been watching Brightline run testing they really have been running a lot of trains the last couple of days service from Orlando to Miami starts the 22nd. Fly eagles fly. Nice to see you back in Philadelphia watching this video Saturday night on my TV
Pulling into North Broad, I noticed what appears to be a track, off the mainline to the right, with a piece of M-o-W equipment sitting on it. Behind it I briefly glimpsed what looked to be a brick (former? ) carbarn?
Flashing yellow over red means medium approach and thanks for the videos I learned a lot from you every chance I get the watch please keep doing what you do
it’s not a special instruction. it’s a dwarf signal so it’s an approach. there’s no rhyme or reason to it. if it were a catenary signal or a wayside signal flashing yellow over red red is an advanced approach. and on a two aspect wayside signal red over flashing yellow would be a medium approach. hope i could give some clarity.
It's a dang rail fan window. You'd think that somebody could take a little glass cleaner and a paper towel and clean it once in a while. Probably "not somebody's job" in this heavily union environment.
1:14:34 that’s a “Restricting” not a “slow approach” @doylestown on the station track the speed is: restricted speed not exceeding 15 mph and on the yard tracks it’s restricted speed not exceeding 5mph. great video. i’m currently Qualifying on the doylestown line and you video helps me ride the train from home. thanks for the video.
At 39:20, what you have labeled as Gwynedd Pk. is actually Plymouth Rd. I loved using that road as part of a shortcut between North Wales and Plymouth Meeting.
@BigGmike151 - Not according to Google Maps, Waze or Franklin Maps. All call it Plymouth Rd. Not one sign on that road calls it "Gwynedd Pike." I used to drive it DAILY when I worked at Tropiano (an airport shuttle van service) nearby.
@ you may be correct but septa named the station and the interlocking based on that physical characteristic of gwenedd pike. i’m an engineer trainee for septa and gwenedd pk is what is on our maps.
Gwynedd Cut was originally a tunnel. It was daylighted when the RDG electrified. There's another tunnel beyond Lansdale on the Bethlehem Branch not far past Perkasie station, which still stands.

Glad to be of service. I would have preferred a cleaner window, but considering the detail you’re getting with this, I think that can be overlooked.

Many fond memories of riding this line. Thanks Tim for a nice ride👌💚
Really nice run! And always enjoy your narration too.
Without narration or graphics, they are mindless. Can’t tolerate that.

Amtrak does a much better job. Ride Amtrak a couple times a week. You can notice the difference.

Whenever I come down there I never know what I’m going to do or where I’m going to go. The powers that be dictate my activities.
Keep them coming!!!
Cool ride😊
Pennsylvania is one of my favorite states to visit especially in the Fall
In RDG days, North Wales had two more crossings! There were crossings at 4th St. as well as Dickerson Rd. (I used to live on 4th St.)
Nice video 👋

I love!!! Your viedo

Per an employee that signal has a special instruction which says that it is an approach.

Ah yes, another SL V with a dirty window. They REALLY need to power wash those trains😮
Gotta take what I can get. I try to use the sun to my advantage
@@3985uprr Exactly Tim👍
@@zazaranger5There will be more the rest of the year

The Pushpulls at glenside are the express to wayne and loc to Thorndale
Saw it later at Suburban
Great video
My line right here! Get on at lansdale
Very interesting Tim, but those trains go about as fast as molasses going up a hill in January!
Well, when I ride on these, I’m not in any hurry. Your response if I had a dollar for every one similar, I could fly first class to Australia.
my train went nice and fast last night
You should do a video on the Norristown High Speed Line. If you do it soon they are single tracking and that would be neat to show
At 30:47 is the site of the old Camp Hill station. Just beyond that, a terrible head-on wreck happened in 1856.

I was already scolded about that restricting signal. 🤣🤣
@ no scolding over here friend. just trying to give some insight
@@BigGmike151 no I’m just kidding around. I don’t like making mistakes with signal indications.

Ha. That was info I was given about that crossing.
gwynedd pk is correct

I guess north broad is so small now because many there just get on BSL
Denver’s RTD use the same Silverliners
Interiors are not the same. No railfan window.
The resolution will improve give it some time
Lansdale crossing shanty there's still the concrete blocks with the steel I beams there at main street
What does the flashing green mean? Does it mean follow cab signals?
Yes.
@@3985uprr Thank you for the information.
Man the weeds on the tracks are almost as bad as the MTA A train out to the Rockaways
If anyone ever needs to do voice overs in Jerry Orbach's voice, you have a job.
People have said that
@@3985uprr Wow, now come to think of it, I do hear Jerry Orbach
Unlike most New Yorkers, Tim's accent is very relaxing and soothing.
@@OldsVistaCruiser but Jerry Orbach had a New York accent. He was about as New York as you can get.
i hope they bring back trains to bethlehem
What does flashing over rd signal mean?
Flashing green over red is proceed at cab signal speed.
“proceed in accordance with cab signal indication”

Are the women train operators on septa go fast , moderate or slow iyo?
I was wondering was this an all women crew operating the train?
