Ikr? Like I didn't get why sisu was insisting on putting trust on others when all it did was getting them into trouble like with the lady chief, tong, the baby, namaari and all. Honestly the plot could have been better than that
Exactly! They gave Namaari no redeeming qualities other than she likes dragons which she ultimately used to trick Raya anyway. She betrayed everyone every chance she got except the last and it was to save her own ass. Someone might give you one second chance anything after that has to be earned.

@@dogepowercz9459 That was the message they wanted to convey but they did it so terribly badly. What the audience sees is someone with no redeeming qualities blindly being trusted after multiple betrayals. While noble in spirit it speaks to blind idealism rather than realistic expectations that Namaari should have been worthy of the new trust that was being placed in her.
People just misinterpret the message of this movie. It is not saying trust everyone but rather don't stop trusting because you got screwed over in a certainly screwed up world. So simple but somehow it is missed because of the characters in this movie
This movie represents the South East Asian cultures: Philippines - martial arts, weapons Thailand - weapons vehicles Indonesia - weapons Vietnam - infrastructures plus all other cultures found in the South East Asian regions are all culminated in this movie. Raya's animal companion and mode of transport TukTuk is based from the name of an actual mode of transport vehicle found in Thailand or Indonesia. I believe Raya's name is also Indonesian (correct me if I'm wrong my South East Asian brothers and sisters). The iterations of dragons in the eastern culture is vastly different from those in the western culture, dragons on the east are seen as guardians and mostly dwell along the waters and they are revered and respected whereas in the west they are mostly seen as threats and they are seen in the mountains or volcanoes and are persecuted.
well... A youtuber collabed with a lot of south east asians (SEAs for short) and they spent 9 months analyzing the movie. It turned out that disney sent out a research team to only some SEA countries who only did surface level research and disrespected SEAs. And since SEA has 11 countries with vastly diverse cultures they couldn't represent any culture at all. The martial arts are wonky and used wrong, the weapons were used wrong and raya's sword is inspired by the keris: a VERY SACRED sword that isn't used for combat. Architecture is loosely based on some countries but even most of the names are from a made up language (namaari, sisu, kumandra...). Sisu's design is very problematic, since it is offensive to actual dragons in SEA culture who are shown as being feared and respected, while Sisu is treated like a celebrity in kumandra . Also there were only 2 SEA voice actors that starred as main characters, most of them were east asian. And most of the crew making raya and the last dragon weren't SEA (only 2 in the writing team) and the idea of making the movie based on SEA countries was an afterthought just to add aesthetic. I'm glad to help clear out some things
@@celestialhumanoid well it is a keris but, this these daggers were adapted by the Southern Philippines and turned it into a sword, and they used it against the Japanese Invaders. In short, Keris is a dagger, but the Filipino version are more of like a sword, and it was used to combat too
I find it more hilarious that they dropped the ball so hard on the message like, the movie basically just told everyone that watched it “Yeah just blindly trust everyone you meet, the world will be a better place if everyone blindly trusted eachother”
I honestly loved every minute of it . I do think it should Have been a longer movie to expand upon things a little more but I loved the ending I felt it was great!
My cats are definitely friendly. My 7 year old Cosette wants to be with whatever people are around, she cries and scratches at the glass slider when we have people over and we’re outside, cuz she wants to be part of the group and get attention. My 17 year older is skittish with people she hasn’t met at least a few times, but she just hides when she doesn’t know someone well enough. She is closest to me, I rescued her 17 years ago when she was a kitten. Actually all our animals are rescues. Eva wants to be with me all the time. She always wants to cuddle and be held. 😊💓
The message of this movie is....ehhh kinda problematic with it's basic "trust someone no matter how many times they lie to you" message. The movie itself LOOKS great and is a decent movie, but the message is a sore point for a lot of people. Like what the hell, Disney? lol.
Dude the message is about taking the first step. It’s not basic. They say this many times in the movie. In conflict, someone is to take that first step.
Idc what people say, as someone with mountains upon mountains of trust issues I truly believe this is a powerful message, however the delivery of the message? I think they could have spent a little longer on the script, like it's obvious what they were going for but maybe they wanted this out quickly or something? Idk.
The message they wanted was fine but the problem is in the delivery. Why should YOU trust someone when 1. They have already broken your trust in the most heinous way that literally and metaphorically ended your world. (Would you forgive someone who robbed your family ending your parents life and leaving you homeless and broke with nothing but your pet?) And 2. Doesn't WANT to earn your trust back. Through the movie we see small instances of Nimaari given opportunity to take the first step to apologize and earn back the trust she destroyed. "Nah. Let me end her instead. Less effort." I am all for forgiveness, when the person is really sorry and wants it. But why forgive someone who tells you they will break your trust again and again.
I mean, I think the fact that all the water disappeared is proof that the last dragon has died, and I think Sisu's turned to water, so there is no body to check.
I really like Namaari.. And I loved her character, so a shame to see some people not enjoying the movie as much as I do. The message is vague and a bit shifty, yes, but Namaari was someone who wanted to be good, and Raya could trust her because she had to at that point. I loved the movie!
Okay I personally don’t think that Raya was to blame for Sisu‘s death Raya had extreme trust issues with Nemari and Nemari had Sisu at gunpoint and her finger was tightening on the trigger what were you led to believe that she wouldn’t shot?
This movie had potential but it really rubs me the wrong way. Sisu talks so much about Raya's trust issues but SHE never trusts Raya to know what she is doing. Sisu has been gone for years and Raya has been living a dystopian war for years, so the fact Sisu wants to have the moral ground in her trust morals, when she literally doesn't know what the world is like right now, doesn't work for me (Specially when the reason the world is dying in the first place is BECAUE Raya put trust into Namari, and Namari backstabbed her) I think the message would jave worked a lot better if it was a movie about Namari wanting to fix the world and regain Raya's trust after so hardly breaking it or something the like. As is, Namari never does anything to remotedly give anyone a reason to trust her and yet everyone still does at the end (because that was literally the only thing they could do, otherwise they'd die) and she gets off completely free of consequences
@@andreimcallister1365 I think the way the message is delivered makes the whole trust thing not really work though. Last time Raya trusted Namari, Namari backstabbed her and literally caused an apocalypse, of which she did not show remorse for. She spends the rest of the movie hunting Raya and later holds Sisu at gunpoint. Why should the responsability be on Raya to forgive Namari if Namari had just consistently been a terrible person who broke her trust twice before? I think it'd make more sense dor the movie to explore how Namari should esrn back Raya's trust instead of basically guilt tripping Raya for not trusting someone who had decieved her before
@@henriquecarballoaranha9100 Just so you know Namaari was not going to shoot Sisu, she was Under pressure. Secondly, both Raya and Namaari are to blame for the consequence of Sisu's death, now Namaari slightly twitching her finger on the crossbow lever didn't signify she was preparing to shoot Sisu immediately (as she worships and has a respe t for Dragons), Raya just jumped to conclusions or in this case "jumped the gun" due to her continued Distrust towards Namaari and just threw her sword causing the crossbow to release the arrow and inadvertently killing Sisu in the process, while at the same time not trusting Sisu on giving Namaari a chance when Sisu was calming her down. So literally Raya's actions in that scene alone when Sisu tried to calm Namaari down did more harm than good which is the reason why Raya's continued distrust and "jumping the gun" by throwing the sword led to this consequence, so at the end if the day, no matter whose fault it was, both Raya and Namaari were at fault for accidentally killing Sisu.
I'm pretty sure when the water receded, that was confirmation the dragon had died. She was a water dragon, so it was her power that kept the waters there protecting them. The moment she died, the protection, and the water, went away.

Naaari should take the first step and give Raya the gem, maybe that could do… something. I think it should be better then this. Also Namaari never apologised like she should have. Geez…
I'm SouthEast Asian and when my friends and I watched this we really didn't like it. I mean the culture is there but they are all mashed together that it became unfamiliar to me. Don't get me started with Sisu oh my.
Hey hey hey watch Moana. The creators of Moana made this movie and Encanto too. You can see it on the similarity of the animation and actually the titles are styled similarly. Those creators apparently like working other cultures to their movies. Moana (polynesian), Raya (mix norse, arabic, thai, egyptian, japanese, chinese), Encanto (mexican) which is awesome.
I have read, that in pre-communist China, the people called themselves the children of dragons. I will not swear if this true or not, but water dragons originated in southeast Asia.
Man. Raya reminds me of my current favorite cartoon show where the MC have been betrayed by 5 people and one of them betrayed her twice. She has a lot of trust issue but it seems she's still willing to trust again, especially the person who betrayed her twice. She's like Shizu, Sizu, Xizu? I don't really know how to spell it.
Guys, the message is not blindly trust people. The message is to take the first step. They say this many times in the film. When someone constantly stabs you in the back or when in a situation where someone has to do something, you take that first step. It suck’s that people keep taking this the wrong way and therefore hating on the movie.
Dragons originated in east Asia and they were spirits of water. It was only when Europeans came to east Asia and learned about dragons that they made up fire breathing dragons. Hope this is helpful 😁
Not completly correct... european dragon-myths and eastern dragon-myths evolved quite different from another and have much the same age... Many cultures have myths about the archetype of the "powerfull lizard creature" in different forms. But yes, in the east dragons are seen mostly as divine beings of water and balance, where european dragons are mostly depicted as destructive monsters of fire and discord.
I feel like this movie would have been infinitely better without the forced lesson on trust. The world is interesting, the visuals are gorgeous, and Sisu is amazing in every way. But the lesson on trust is horrifically dangerous. If you go around blindly trusting strangers, like the movie wants, you *ARE* going to get hurt. Possibly even killed, or worse. Disney seems to forget that it's not actually a small world after all, there's a lot of malicious people out there. Accepting someone's differences and being kind to them is one thing. Getting in the car with them, or letting them look over your shoulder at an ATM is another. I loved everything *else* about it, though.
Sigh. You just don’t get it. The message is to take the first. They say this many times in the movie. Raya has to regain trust even though namari betrayed her.
@@andreimcallister1365 If someone shoots me in the leg and I forgive them, then they shoot me in the other leg, then I'd have to be the dumbest guy in the world to trust that they wouldn't do it again. It was never on Raya to regain trust after Namari betrayed her. It was on *Namaari* to regain Raya's trust, which isn't something that can happen in one afternoon with a single kind gesture. Trust is hard earned, only freely given by fools.
I have to ask, how was it rayas fault that sisu was murdered? as far as i see it, everything was going right, sisu and raya was trying to be peaceful at that moment that namaari fired that bolt, the bolt that not only hit sisu, but hit her in the heart, knocked her off a cliff and doomed the world. right when raya felt like she was about to save it, namaari gave ray hope, and then ripped it away. id fly into a blind rage too.
Looks like you need to rewatch that scene. It was obvious namaari was not going to fire in the end. Raya made the first shot and namaari fired on reflex. Not defending namaari, her character is quite poorly written but that scene is exactly how I described it. Raya didn’t trust Sisu and her decisions, which, honestly, I understand since her past decisions and ideals weren’t exactly logical.
@@EnaLikes "It was obvious Namaari was not going to fire in the end." Yeah, that's not true. Sisu steps forward to try and talk Namaari down, and Namaari not only changes targets and points the crossbow at Sisu (it was previously aimed at Raya) but then her finger starts tightening around the trigger. Raya sees this and reacts, swinging out her chain-sword in an effort to stop Namaari from firing or at least redirect the shot. The shot then goes off and Sisu is dead. Did Raya have a role in the shot going off? Sure. Was it clear that Namaari wasn't going to fire? Hell no. If you aren't going to fire, your finger wouldn't be on the trigger and the weapon wouldn't be pointed at anything alive.
@@matthewmazzatto8003 _"Yeah that's not true"_ Yes that is true, Namaari slightly twitching the finger didn't signify she was preparing to shoot at Sisu immediately, Raya literally just jumped to conclusions or in this case "jumped the gun" due to her continued Distrust towards Namaari and just threw her sword causing the crossbow to release the arrow and inadvertently killing Sisu in the process, and both of them including Namaari are shocked on what they've done after Sisu was accidentally killed. So literally Raya's actions in this scene alone when Sisu tried to calm Namaari down did more harm than good which is the reason why Raya's continued distrust and "jumping the gun" by throwing the sword led to this consequence, so it makes absolute no sense that you and everyone else constantly blame Namaari when Raya also has herself to blame for Sisu's death as well, so Raya's actions speak louder than words. Think of it as trying to attack a scared/suicidal person still holding a triggered gun while the person is trying to calm them down (even if that individual is almost risking themselves as well), would you interfere in the situation resulting in the gun to fire and also causing the person and others to get hurt or in the worst case scenario killed.

Movie had so many potential, and plentiful of issues. Artwork and animations and designs were good but writing and plot could be alot better. The whole trust someone after being betrayed by them? Nahhhh.. Sounds kinda dumb, even if it's an life or death threatening thing that's coming for all of them. What if they betray you afterwards cuz its all about survival -_- I get its fantasy and a animation, but they've pushed it too far without taking a look at plenty of other movies and animations

I liked many parts of this movie, but... the message and how they presentet the chemistry of the characters was in my opinion not really well done. But i liked your reaction very much! :)
The mesage of the movie is quite good. "It takes bravery to trust someone when you have been already been betrayed in the past. However, you must learn to trust people despite knowing that some of those people you trust might betray you one day, because that is how we grow.". Despite the good message, the show could have presented it better...the message felt too forced, which makes me uncomfortable. The movie was quite good though, message aside.

plus all other cultures found in the South East Asian regions are all culminated in this movie.
@Sammy Xl I recognized the fighting style as YawYan (Sayaw ng Kamatayan) and Eskrima, a Filipino martial arts, when Raya was sparring with her father.
@@celestialhumanoid well it is a keris but, this these daggers were adapted by the Southern Philippines and turned it into a sword, and they used it against the Japanese Invaders. In short, Keris is a dagger, but the Filipino version are more of like a sword, and it was used to combat too
@@n1ck3f thanks for pointing that out!
@@celestialhumanoid please don't be ignorant, but you're welcome 😁☺️
I find it more hilarious that they dropped the ball so hard on the message like, the movie basically just told everyone that watched it
“Yeah just blindly trust everyone you meet, the world will be a better place if everyone blindly trusted eachother”
Sigh. No dude. That’s not the message
I honestly loved every minute of it . I do think it should Have been a longer movie to expand upon things a little more but I loved the ending I felt it was great!
Your reaction was priceless!😂🤣
Having played Fire Emblem 3 Houses before seeing this, the first thought in my head when I saw the Whip sword was
"Is it made from dragon bones?"
@@Crux_JCr right! Like come on who wrote this? They can do better cause we've seen it. Shame really, it's a wonderful storym
Agreed, that was on Nemari and Sisu
Ya Namaari had proved multiple times she couldn't be trusted.
At the end Namari was redeemed but didn't even apologize to everything that happened in this movie
It still was both Raya and Namaari's fault for the death of Sisu.
This movie had potential but it really rubs me the wrong way. Sisu talks so much about Raya's trust issues but SHE never trusts Raya to know what she is doing. Sisu has been gone for years and Raya has been living a dystopian war for years, so the fact Sisu wants to have the moral ground in her trust morals, when she literally doesn't know what the world is like right now, doesn't work for me (Specially when the reason the world is dying in the first place is BECAUE Raya put trust into Namari, and Namari backstabbed her)
I think the message would jave worked a lot better if it was a movie about Namari wanting to fix the world and regain Raya's trust after so hardly breaking it or something the like. As is, Namari never does anything to remotedly give anyone a reason to trust her and yet everyone still does at the end (because that was literally the only thing they could do, otherwise they'd die) and she gets off completely free of consequences
Yeah and the message is taking the first step which they said many times. Raya has to forgive namari and regain trust again.
He sacrificed himself because he knew that Raya would stay with him and die, Even if he would live.
I'm pretty sure when the water receded, that was confirmation the dragon had died. She was a water dragon, so it was her power that kept the waters there protecting them. The moment she died, the protection, and the water, went away.
Well, if sisu didn’t die the water wouldn’t have been gone so they didn’t have to check

Asian drason is different from western dragon western dragon is your typical game of throne dragon with fire breathing... Asian dragon speacialy south east asian dragon have a long slender bondy not scaly and yup a water dragon, its called BAKUNAWA here in the philippines
The leading theory is that they gave Sisu the gem because without her the water disappears and with it the last defense against the droon.
Ahhh...hello again my stress reliever Reactor :) I'm from the Philippines and I'm proud of how they portray our culture in martial arts and weaponry.
I feel like this film is underrated! I love it so much and it makes me cry every time!
The way the movie showed Sizu was dead was by all the water vanishing as the last water dragon had died
I think all the water disappearing was their proof of the last dragon’s death.
Sisu carried this movie for me when i watched it with my classmates. Ofc the moral isnt always right but its also not always wrong so its a 50/100 for me
What does that mean?
OK I am mad right now because Sophie keeps saying they didn’t even check to see if she was dead but the water left in as they said in the movie with the last Dragon gone so to go to the water meaning Sisu was definitely dead
yeah, my bad, it went over my head :(

She doesn’t need to. They both know they have made up for what they did.
The sword is great. First place I ever saw a sword-whip was in a game called soul caliber. Character named Ivy uses one.
First place where I saw it was the movie Brotherhood of the Wolf, where the villain uses one in the final fight.

Guys, the message is not blindly trust people. The message is to take the first step. They say this many times in the film. When someone constantly stabs you in the back or when in a situation where someone has to do something, you take that first step. It suck’s that people keep taking this the wrong way and therefore hating on the movie.

Did anyone else notice that "binturi" is their way of saying "bitch" without saying it?
"Binturi" in the Kumandran language means "Traitor"
i love Raya so much
Dragons originated in east Asia and they were spirits of water.
Raya from Southeast Asia, Sisu is Southeast Asian dragon
Next week: Hotel Transylvania 4: transformania!
im not crying..you are >:(
I feel like this movie would have been infinitely better without the forced lesson on trust.
@@andreimcallister1365
If someone shoots me in the leg and I forgive them, then they shoot me in the other leg, then I'd have to be the dumbest guy in the world to trust that they wouldn't do it again.
@@EnaLikes "It was obvious Namaari was not going to fire in the end."
Yeah, that's not true.
@@matthewmazzatto8003 _"Yeah that's not true"_
Yes that is true, Namaari slightly twitching the finger didn't signify she was preparing to shoot at Sisu immediately, Raya literally just jumped to conclusions or in this case "jumped the gun" due to her continued Distrust towards Namaari and just threw her sword causing the crossbow to release the arrow and inadvertently killing Sisu in the process, and both of them including Namaari are shocked on what they've done after Sisu was accidentally killed.
@@EnaLikes Namaari slightly twitching the finger didn't signify she was preparing to shoot at Sisu immediately, Raya literally just jumped to conclusions or in this case "jumped the gun" due to her continued Distrust towards Namaari and just threw her sword causing the crossbow to release the arrow and inadvertently killing Sisu in the process.
