    I don’t know why people sleep on Isabella’s powers? She literally creates life out of NOTHING and controls all plant life. She can create vines strong enough to hold people. She can build cities, bridges, etc just by wanting it. Now she can create poisonous plants. She is badass.

      I love Isa's story because until that moment, she thought all she could make was flowers. The pressure to be perfect, pretty, feminine, get married, have perfect little babies to keep the family and gifts going, etc was literally keeping her weaker and smaller. She wasn't allowed to make mistakes so nothing new was even attempted which is something SO MANY of us can relate to. My favorite lyric in her song is "what could I do if I just knew it didn't have to be perfect, it just needed to be". And then by the end she's making all sorts of plants which is, in fact, one of the most powerful gifts of the bunch. You are very accurate there. From poisons to bridges, endless lumber materials, not to mention she can feed everyone by helping to grow crops. She's incredibly powerful

    i love how Bruno is just this akward kinda introverted guy who loves doing silly jokes. Unfortunally, due to his gift everything he says is taken too seriously and he just had to restrain himself from it. Like, Pepa sang "Bruno says it looks like rain, in doing so he floods my brain", because she tought Bruno had a vision that showed him that soon it would be raining, when infact Bruno just wanted to mock his sister for being too swety. Later on he says "Pepa, I'm sorry about your wedding, didn't mean to be upsetting. That wasn't a prophecy, I could just see you're sweting", so the dude just wanted to fool around, but had to restrain himself fearing some one would have a literal breakdown.

    Can we talking about Bruno being a homie? Bruno resembles his father. He's selfless, loves his family enough to separate himself from them and 'sacrifice' himself if that means that his family would be happy. Just like his father did. He was even willing to take the blame for Mirabel after the house fell apart to save her from becoming him
    He was described as Seven foot frame by Camilio (shape-shifting boy) probably because he was a kid and Bruno just seemed tall to him. Plus after years of hearing bad stories about it, it probably elevated that image to about seven foot, towering, creepy man.

    • @Yugioh420
      @Yugioh420 2 года назад +27

      I actually have a theory on that one. Camillo was young when Bruno left, but Bruno clearly has been coming out from time to time, after all he had that chair in the walls, and he has been getting food. So what if Camillo was up getting water or going to the bathroom, when he seen Bruno with that big chair on his back and his blankets on top of it so he looked huge to the small boy in the dark. He was terrified from the sight he scene, Bruno wanting to reassure his Nephew called out to him. But Camillo was so scared and had heard such stories about his uncle that when he called out to him, he fainted. So Bruno put him back to bed then continued on his way. That would explain him thinking he was 7ft tall. And seen him with the rats on his back. When he called his name all faded to black.

    Its actually very subtle: her gift is the same as Abuela Alma's. She's connected to the house itself. That's why she can communicate with it, and why the house doesn't come back alive until SHE puts the doorknob in.
    Or, in other words, her door was the house's FRONT door!

    • @musikyleproductions2488
      @musikyleproductions2488 2 года назад +18

      I don’t think she’s ONLY connected to Casita itself. Remember, the house is alive BECAUSE of the miracle, and it’s not a gift itself (although you might argue that the miracle IS a gift, but my point still stands). Gifts refer to responsibility, it was made to protect and serve the village. She has less of a gift and more of an important role in the family. Like Abuela, she is the holder of the miracle itself, and because of that she is the glue of the family. Her role in the family is leadership and support, as you can see throughout the movie how she makes her family members open up and at the end during the building of Casita. She’s a vital role for the family to keep together, because if she was just another family member with a gift like everyone else, no one in the family will have an active support system except for Abuela, and you’ve seen how Abuela acts pre-ending.
      (Also, the thing about her and Abuela being the only ones to communicate with Casita. Abuela can communicate with Casita very well since she spent decades as a single mom and learning Casita’s body language so they can help each other better. Mirabel stayed in the nursery more than anyone, where Casita can still control the things inside. She also probably stayed in the house much more longer when she was younger because she didn’t need to help the town. Also, everyone is just as in sync with Casita as with Mirabel. Mirabel just talks to Casita more [probably because of the lack of people she talks to growing up].)

      It was almost the same lesson as frozen. At the end we see her HAPPY and creating a light hail storm above her. This implies that she has potential control it because earlier in the film happy meant sunshine and storms were only connected to negative emotions. Bruno said it wasn't a prophecy, he was just trying to tell her it was okay for her to be nervous about the wedding. Let it out. Let it go. It was okay for her to feel what she was feeling, she didn't have to be scared that her power would ruin anything, because her family kept trying to get her to not feel things because it was inconvenient for them.

    Stopping time is an inner monologue trick. You see it a lot in theatre productions. She has a stellar voice, but she's not the only one. She's not causing the cracks. Bruno sees the future. Not her. Camilo is a shapeshifter, and his part of "We don't talk about Bruno" sort of makes sense in context. Bruno's been gone since Mirabelle was 5. She was the last Madrigal kid before Antonio to have a gift ceremony, with Camilo likely being the kid directly prior to her. They're only a few months apart, so Camilo has fashioned his part of the narrative based on what he heard from the older Madrigals (probably mostly from Pepa and Felix).

    • @elbruces

      Nah, Mirabel has wide-area reality control, the ability to slow or stop time, plus mind control to make everyone in the area sing whatever's on their mind, and *then* her powers alter their memory so they think they only had a normal conversation afterwards. She's pretty overpowered.

    • @mischr13

      it's pretty cool how in theater production when all the characters freeze and one character turns to the crowd and starts talking, we implicitly understand the "conversation" is happening inside the characters head. Talking about the blessings being curses, not gifts, I think you're right. Some people theorize that Pedro's sacrifice and love for his family gave them the miracle, but in Dos Oruguitas, it comes from Abuela as a wave of grief and despair. The candle raised mountains as Abuela put up emotional walls to protect herself from the trauma. Everyone's gifts were designed to keep themselves, the family, and community safe. I had a therapist once say that, as much as we don't like them, trauma responses are our way of keeping ourselves prepared and safe from danger, even if that danger doesn't exist anymore. It's like, "Thanks, brain, for trying to take care of me, but we don't need this reaction all the time." These gifts are a trauma response. Julieta heals, Camillo can disguise himself, Bruno can see what's coming, Dolores can hear trouble before it gets there, Luisa is a tank. Even the less obvious gifts can be used should they come under attack again.

    • @belenpazallo3946
      @belenpazallo3946 2 года назад +15

      I've never thought about it that way, but it makes sense. The miracle is a trauma response, that's why even if it was needed in the short term (Abuela and the triplets' generations), in the long term it became harmful (the cousins' generation, who didn't live the trauma themselves and are suffering the stress the most).
      That's why Bruno saw the house collapsing, it has to happen because the trauma response was not needed anymore. And the miracle they receive at the end was born from healing, from accepting the pain of the past but also from knowing that life goes on.

    Mirabel’s Gift is the same as her Abuela’s. She is the heart of the encanto. Abuela is getting very old and will die someday, so there has to be somebody to be the head of the family after her. That’s why her door is the front door - the whole casita is hers. The love she has for her family is the greatest gift of all, because it is that love that fuels their miracle and their powers.
    This is foreshadowed by the fact that she and Abuela are the only ones shown to actively communicate with the house. They are the only ones who speak to it and give it orders.

She understood the pain Luisa was going through and gave Luisa the love and support she needed. She then came to understand her Tio Bruno and gave him the love he's been missing all this time. Next she had to understand and love Isabella. Then Abuela Alma. The final embrace was accepting and loving herself. The fish dying wasn’t even seeing the future, it’s just knowing that goldfish last like a week and a half! 😂 (so I’ve learned they can last years, which sounds insane to me, never heard of it. I guess we just don’t know how to properly care for them, and other factors ppl in the replies have brought up)
    You can actually see Bruno in the background during Dolores’s part in We Don’t Talk About Bruno
    My interpretation is that Mirabel will be the new matriarch after Abuela, who also doesn’t have a power. She’ll help keep the love going in the family and continue in Abuela’s place for the gift getting ceremony

      @@deewildone1644 actually one of the main reason goldfish die so quickly is they where likely won at some carnival game where they have been stuck in plastic bags or over crowded barrels for so long before you win it that it's not in the best of shape when you get it. Then needing to get a proper tank and air equipment might take a few days especially if you weren't planning on getting your kid a fish so by the time its finally in the tank ots on its last leg 8 out of 10 times.

    • @Al1701
      @Al1701 2 года назад +9

      @@Yugioh420 Another issue is shock. When you get a new fish, you shouldn't just dump them straight into the tank because the difference in temperature between the water they're in and the water they're going into can stress their bodies. You place the bag they're in in the water for ten minutes so it changes gradually to the same temperature. Then you can release them into the tank.
      I grew up owning fish and the gold fish we owned lived for several years. They're actually quite hardy if you know how to take good care of them. (And keeping them in a little, barren bowl is not taking good care of them,)

    I absolutely adore this movie! My favorite headcanon I’ve seen is when Camilo was 5-6 so right before Bruno left he was going to the kitchen in the middle of the night and he didn’t notice Bruno in there was well. Well Bruno noticed and called out his name and it scared Camilo so badly he screamed and fainted. He saw a “7 ft frame” to a child everyone is tall as hell, “when he calls your name it all fades to black” when he fainted when Bruno called out to Camilo, he “feasts on your screams” when he screamed. It just makes perfect sense! I find it hilarious!

Had that gone well and they brought it to Abuela the next morning, it's quite possible Abuela would have listened to them and at least considered that Mirabel wasn't the cause of the cracks. But Abuela was so focused on the proposal dinner going perfectly and already upset with Mirabel because of Luisa's struggles that going right then would have been a disaster.

    Isabella's powers aren't just growing flowers. She can grow and control ANY plant life. Ergo, she's one of the most useful and important gifts because she can grow crops. The problem is that Abuela has this obsessive need for her to be the embodiment of beauty and perfection and has driven it into Isa's mind from a young age that being this "pretty princess that can grow flowers" spreads positive vibes around the town and is the most important use of her gift.

  • @scaredycat7118

    Honestly, Abuela is probably my favourite character because of just how complex she is. She's such a grey character, though she's leaning more heavily to the good spectrum. She's genuinely a good person, she really does want to help her community and we can tell underneath her surface she cares for her family. But because of her trauma and loss then being given a gift, a second chance, she is so desperate not to lose it again that she ends up hurting her family. In the end, there's no more candle. The candle was born from trauma, Abuela keeping it around just shows that she hasn't completely moved on from that trauma. Then in the end, when their magic returns but there's no more candle, Abuela was finally able to move on. The gift no longer came from a traumatic memory, it now comes from the love of the family. Abuela is so complex, so well written, she ends up being such a fascinating character to analyse. Because of that, she is definitely one of my favourite characters.

      I still think Abeula is lovable. I'm not denying how much she hurt them all over the years, but I am taking into account the past and the future.
      The past referring to her trauma and the fact that the reason she did those things was understandable. She had already lost everything once and she didn't want it to happen to her or her family again. So she ended up holding on to them all so tight she ended up breaking them apart.
      And the future referring to the fact that we see that she is genuinely remorseful and realizes that she was hurting them, which she never intended to do. Everything she did came from a place of love, and realizing that those things hurt them means that she'll change for the better in the future.

    • @chronosclaimsall
      @chronosclaimsall 2 года назад +1

      Kind of in connection to this, but you don't have to read if you don't want to:
      Also, a lot of the roles that everyone ended up in were roles that they kept themselves in because they felt obligated to. Abuela may have put them there at some point, that's true, but nothing said they weren't allowed to break out of those roles. No one told Luisa she wasn't allowed to take breaks, but she felt like she would let everyone down if she fell behind in any way so she pushed herself. Because she was the strong one. Isabella was never told she 𝘩𝘢𝘥 to marry Mariano, but she was going to because she thought that the family would be proud if she did. Because she was the perfect one, the golden child, the oldest. And Abuela enforces it sometimes because she thinks that they want it too.
      Of course, they could just tell her but who wants to go against the family matriarch who suffered so much to get them to this point? "It's just this much, I'll be fine" and "It's okay, it's not that big a deal" and that's how feelings can get buried without people realizing and the pressure builds up over time til they just couldn't take it anymore.

    *Julieta, Pepa, & Bruno* - powers are based on the past, present, & future
    * Julieta cures wounds created in the past
    * Pepa changes the weather in the present
    * Bruno predicts the future
    *Dolores, Camilo, & Antonio* - powers are based on the sayings hear no evil, see no evil, and speak no evil
    * Dolores has super hearing powers
    * Camilo can take on anyone’s appearance
    * Antonio can understand animals
    *Isabela, Luisa, & Mirabel* - powers are based on beauty, brawn, & brain
    * Isabela produces beautiful plants
    * Luisa is so strong that she can move buildings
    * Mirabel doesn’t have powers like the rest, but she’s the brain that pieces everything together

      It was my same headcanon that he was just a fish enthusiast who knew the bowl was terrible for fish, but then I remembered that he warned Mirabel before doing his vision in the movie, that she might not like it, and that she might blame him for her goldfish dying: so I took it that it was something that he actually looked into the future for (after he was asked to by the woman)
      but I 100% believe without a doubt that the guy with a gut didn’t ask for a vision, I think Bruno just saw him drinking beer and was like “you’re gonna grow a gut if you keep that up” 😂

I guess it depends on the family dynamic growing up, but I too was like…..”I wish she hadn’t said that” because as you know now, Abuelas insistence on “making the family proud” by forcing people to be perfect was almost the familys destruction. In many families, that pressure to “make the family proud” tho it comes from a good place, has been a huge burden of expectation that people can’t always bear. And all that was telegraphed in that one simple line.

    Notice in "We Don't Talk About Bruno"... Dolores' verse is actually the most honest and sympathetic to Bruno, hence the truest depiction is his silhouette sneaking along upstairs while Dolores and Mirabel were downstairs.
    Also, if you notice Augustín, when he appears near the end of the song? He's not singing while setting the table, nor does Julieta even appear in the song. Luisa is busy grappling with her powers fading. The only person in Mirabel's immediate family that had anything to say about Bruno was Isabella.

    Isabela's gift seems useless until she realises she can grow more than pretty flowers...She can grow trees (that can be used for shelter and building), fruit, vegetables and crops with a flick of her hand, the community would never be hungry, I would say it's a very powerful and useful gift.
    Also as a theory goes all the gifts are linked to Abuela's trauma and they make sure it can never happen again - Bruno sees the future and Dolores can hear anything from miles away (they will never be surprised by intruders again), Pepa controls the weather (she can destroy an army on her own), Julieta can heal people (no one will die of an injury), Luisa is superstrong, Isabela can feed the whole country and Camilo can shapeshift (he can spy in the enemy camp if needed)...only gift that isn't linked to the past is Antonio's and probably only because of Mirabel's connection to the house and influence as a supposed future candle bearer

  • @itzmehDevi
    @itzmehDevi 2 года назад +3

    Mirabel is the candle. It was the candle that brought magic and miracle to the house the first time with Abuela .. And in absence of the candle, Mirabel, the human candle fixes it.The whole house is her room. And The reason Mirabel didn't get a gift is because she is the gift.

    The Toucan is voiced by Alyn Tudyk. He’s been in every main Disney animated movie since Wreck It Ralph, being like a good luck charm like John Ratzenburger in Pixar. I believe they cast him as animals in this and Moana so they can keep the accurate ethnic cast while still having him in the cast.

    My surprise when I found out everyone's age. Isabella is apparently 20. Isabella is 20 and Abuelq said that she was 'out of control' as if she's a 4 year old child. Bruno and his two siblings are 50. 50!!!!!! My guess would've been 30 or something!

      Though 1 thing that dont make a lot of since to me is people saying Isabella is the oldest because she is marrying age. But it looks to me at least that she is the middle sister, and the reason she is being engaged rather then the older sister is that Isabella is the pretty one the perfect one. So they simply skipped over the oldest which would be another reason why she feels her strength is her only assets, after all Grandma's isn't rushing to marry her off.

      @@Byeodee yes I've watched a few more reviews since this one. So I've noticed when she says 50 years ago when my baby's have just been born. Plus I realized that's why everyone loves Isabella so much for being able to grow a flower. She is the oldest of all the kids. The first person since the triplets got powers to get a power. She was the proof that the miracle was going to continue on to the next generation so both my assumptions where clearly wrong.

    i think it's not so much as people saying Bruno was a bad guy, or that everything wrong that happened was his fault, but the fact that whatever he predicted, it was inevitable. As long as he didn't make a prediction, the future was a mistery, but as soon as someone appeared in one of his predictions, then their future was settled. So, i think that it unsettedled people to appear in his visions, and considering he one day disappeared without a trace, it made people so nervous that prefered not to talk about it. Hence, "we don't talk about bruno".
    It's not that they hate him. It's just that they were nervous and afraid, because once he saw something, it was bound to happen, whetever it was a good thing or a bad one. If you think about, it is never said that people hated him, and he even made a couple of non-fatidical predictions, like Isabela's
    I mean, if Bruno were to tell me: "You'll get in a horrible accident", i would probably spend the rest of my life freaking out about it, because i would not know when it would happen, but i'd be sure i'd happen

    god, I never made that connection. I suspected her "gift" (not given by the house, she herself is a gift to the family) was keeping the family together. but I never realized
    the encanto was made supposedly from the love of pedro and his connection to his family, so much that he sacrificed himself. the encanto broke apart because of the connection being broken and their live as a family being worn away by the tension. mirabelle restored the magic of the encanto, born again from the renewed love in the family, just as she restored the love in the family

    Luisa is my personal favorite and reminds me of my older sisters who basically raised the younger kids and had to take on too much responsibility too early in life.
