- Alan Wake 2 has been one of the most anticipated and long sought after sequels for the better part of a decade. It's surprising to me that some gamers are suggesting it will fail before it's even hit players' consoles and PCs. So much about the game remains a mystery, but I believe much of the concern for Alan Wake 2 has little to do with the game itself. Join me as we attempt to understand the following question, "What's The 'Problem' With Alan Wake 2".

I thought the only controversy surrounding AW II was that it’s digital only. Didn’t know Saga was under fire. I personally don’t like being preached to either but I never once saw the introduction of Saga as Remedy trying to force something onto me. I have full faith that Sam and the rest of the writing/creative team will deliver a character (Saga) that we’ll grow to love just like Jesse, Jack Joyce or Alan himself. No Remedy game is perfect but in this day and age I feel like they’re one of the last developers that actually put care and passion into their games instead of just churning out some half-baked mess. I can’t wait to see what journey AW II takes me on and what seeds it lays for the future of the Remedy Connected Universe.

With all the "diVerSItY" and "ESG/DEI" style writing forced upon us on all sorts of media and in the last few years in 90% of games released. I have to say, seeing everything about this game so far, I never ONCE thought anything of that sort regarding Saga. Zero.

I somehow don't think there would be such an uproar if we played as Alex Casey in the bright falls section of the game, it's definitely partially to do with gender, partially to do with race and partially to do with what you mentioned in the video; "x thing tried this and I didn't like it, this must be the same", which honestly is a useless perspective to approach any new piece of art with exception to it being made by the same people as the example (I'll pray for you Neil Druckmann).
We needed a second protagonist in any scenario or we'd never get to see Bright Falls in the game, no matter what you'd have detractors, same way we've got them whining incessantly about the lack of a physical release despite that being announced months ago and reasons as to why were given.
I think these types are due a reminder it's a godsend any game gets finished, it's another thing entirely that after 13 years in both literal and narrative limbo, we are getting Alan Wake II at all.
By the looks of it, as a fan of Remedy since I was in the single digits and I'd gotten inklings of their potential with horror as early as THAT level in Max Payne, it's the game I've always wanted them to make and it's just around the corner.

Nothing wrong with Alan wake 2. Game isn't even out and 0 doubt it will be good. It's remedy and Sam Lake. Yes there's a black female detective.....blah blah blah....her character is clearly a big part of Alan's story so just play the game and decide if you like the character by simply playing the freaking video game. I for one have been waiting for the sequel for 13 years now

The only people upset over Alan Wake 2 are racist people upset over a black female being playable in the game. That's it... period.
Don't be afraid to call it what it is. Stop dancing around the elephant in the room. She's black and racists around the world are losing their minds. The exact same thing is happening with Spiderman 2 due to Miles Morales being black and the co-protagonist in that game.

@@GreedAndSelfishness yeah the reason why is when casting the character, they liked Melanie Liburd best for the role and they hired her, she happens to be black so therefore so is Saga.

I'm sure that Alan Wake 2 will be a great game. This is most much waiting game of 2023 for me. Not Spider-man 2 or any else - exactly Alan Wake 2

This is mis information: you can paly Alan or Saga straight through like RE 4 remake. Sam Lake said this in an interview. You made a video to beat around the bush about a black woman being in a game. Grow a pair and say what you mean. If people dont want to play the for this reason then dont, no one os forcing you coawrds

To clarify about dual protagonists, I'm referring to the two separate single player story perspectives which follow Wake and Anderson respectively.
Per Developer quotes in the VGC article: "But basically the structure of the game is you open up with Saga. She arrives in Bright Falls, she’s investigating these ritualistic killings.
As you can imagine things spiral from there, she gets in over her head a little bit and at a certain point you unlock Alan. And then after that point, you can switch between the two paths, the two stories.
They are unique stories to both characters, they highlight different mechanics, they have different tones. Alan represents approximately 50% of the experience."
It is true that one of the story perspectives is solely focused on Wake, but the other story perspective follows Anderson. Players are absolutely free to play them however they please, per Remedy's comments.
My intention with this video was to highlight the nuances of the conversation and present a different analytical viewpoint.
Also, a character's appearance isn't going to keep me from playing games I'm excited about. Not sure why it would.

C’mon now. If you want to say that Remedy is trying to be woke, look at Control. In the concepts, women in concept were men in game, black people in concept were white in game.
Remedy is a character and story first company. They don’t do things because of “woke”.
I was so hyped, the original was great. But making it slower Resident Evil-like and woking it up with race swapped Saga have dehyped me to hell.
Her actress changed from a 2016 concer Easter egg video from a game that is not canon. You have a valid point if you don’t like RE games, but Remedy is not known to follow a wile agenda. For Control, they even swapped black characters for white characters from going to concept to final. It’s a creative process, such as the concept 2016 Easter egg video. Now, in 2023 with the official Saga, this is their final choice.
