Yep, happened during a business trip in Hawaii circa 2001. After a round of golf, Sony executive Kunitake Ando was shown a demo of Mac OS X running on a Vaio with an Intel processor. Talks fell through since Vaios were "optimized to run Windows", though probably an exclusivity deal with Microsoft was the true reason.
I think i bought mine at around the same time and it was also my first laptop but I broke mine last year.. it served me good 😕 but now I’m moving on to Apple cuz Microsoft isn’t doing the job for me anymore anyways..
I mean, my class paid 30 bucks for a 30m HDMI cable (so around 1 dollar per person) and you can get a cheap but functional VGA to HDMI adaptor for 5 bucks in case the projector/main computer doesn't have a HDMI port... so the total would be 35 dollars. I get it, the students shouldn't be the ones buying stuff, but someone has to, and the schools are not gonna do it, so you pretty much have to take it into your own hands
hard drives in computers get slower over time because of how they work. A hard drive reads data as it spins on a disc and on a new system files are bunched close together making it quicker to read, but over time as you delete stuff and use more data it gets disorganized and it takes longer for it to find the info on a disc. There was a way to fix it by reorganizing the data, its called defragging. I would do it every year or so. In early windows they didnt have it built in, so thats why it got slow. But now with windows 10 it will automatically defrag the drive for you. but thats only for hard drives, ssds in computers dont need to be defragged
Indeed what happened is that they produced futuristic and long lasting laptops so people stopped buying new ones lol I'm currently writing on a 10 years old VAIO (model VPCEB2B4E if you wanna check its kickass specs), it still rocks to this day and at the time it was only 900€ everything included
I worked in Sony Vaio's tech support before and had the chance to use their laptops and their All in One Desktops. They were really good and I liked the designs. They were pretty expensive though. We even had that UX180P and the Vaio P (my favorite). It was small and compact but still a fully functioning laptop. They also treated their employees well. They usually awarded their top performing employees with Sony TVs, home entertainment systems and their latest laptops.
They only care about the PlayStation consoles which is kinda sad, dont get me wrong i have a ps4 and its awesome but the fact that they're just focusing on that alone is just like come on now
Bought a 17" Vaio F-series in 2009 and used it every single day until 2016 when it started freezing up because of a windows update issue. I loved that thing and was sad when I went looking for its newer replacement and found out they don't even make them anymore. I tried to revive it last year with an SSD and stuff but its just too heavy and brittle after all these years.
Yeah, the one my mother had with Windows ME that she later upgraded to a pirated Windows XP lasted her for 8 years, till she got a new computer. And even then it still worked, till the PSU died around the same number of years after it laid unused. The only other issue it really had was that the OS oddly didn't accept any form of communication input, albeit any kind of mouse or keyboard. Just doing a repair install of XP would fix that, though.

I have a VIAO laptop that's 7 or 8 years old (because it ran windows 7 before being upgraded by my brother) and it works perfectly fine. It has a Intel core i7.
I bought a Vaio laptop in 2013 (Win 8) and recently upgraded to latest Win 10 - 1809. Core i5 500GB 4GB ram (upgraded) it runs for 4 hrs straight on the battery. I'm happy with the performance of the laptop.

I had the PCG-505 from 1998. That was one of my favorite laptops I've ever owned. That baby had 128 MB (doubled from standard 64 MB) of RAM and a 6GB HD. It had a super high res 1024x768 display, and on the 10 inch screen it was really sharp. I used that thing way past its expected lifespan by putting lightweight versions of Linux on there. Thank you for bringing back those memories!

Could run games fairly well, was really well made but mad expensive. Wish they made those crazy concepts still. It was a thin and light gaming laptop way before Razer even considered making laptops.
Even Japanese stopped caring about what's next from Sony since iPod, LG/Samsung/htc and whole China. I'm pretty sure they'll sell Xperia brand which I can't remember the last time I saw anyone who had them (even in Japan), even less so for the last time anyone outside Japan made a review about it. The last innovative stuff about xperia was about being waterproof before it was standard, but that was not sony's but Japanese market's standard since 2008-ish. They are just known for looking cool and expensive and this saddens old sony fanboy.
@@IoriTatsuguchi Xperia strived and is still doing the same today. I remember my roommates hp used to get hot near the trackpad, while my vaio’s thermal components were all at the rear, so front palm rests rarely got warm. It was truly one of the best machines at the time.
Still using a Sony Vaio which dates back from 2006. This thing was running Windows Vista initially and is currently running Windows 10. Surprisingly Windows 10 runs much more smoothly on this laptop compared to either Windows Vista or Windows 7.
Sony sold the brand VAIO off but, VAIO is still made in Japan and sold as before. I just have been to Yodobashi Camera big tech store in Kyoto, and seen many new models, some have touch panel and 3 in 1 mode changing from laptop to tablet. Amazing. Also state of the art projector with touch or Bluetooth command. So expensive but so innovative! I own two VAIO Tap 20 and Fit 13 still going strong.
Very well put up. I have previous owned 4 vaio laptops and currently using vaio s. Sad to see them not coming up with something cool or innovate and go crazy. Vaio ppl if you are reading this please come back strong we love you .

Let's not forget that Vaio actually started the island style keys before even Apple. Same with the hinge design. Lots of design cues from the Vaio days are still used today.
Plenty of legacy Vaio machines are still in use, but they offer so little value in current models that it just doesn't make economical sense to buy them. I knew plenty of folks with Vaio computers back when they were relevant, but the few I've seen with them today are just reusing and upgrading old models.
The new vaio company seems to recycle ♻ the old Sony vaio designs of laptops that are now 7+ years old. They just need to come up with some proprietary cool features like they used to.
Never had a VAIO device in the house (we were strictly a Dell family lol), but I have a cousin that was in college back in like 2006 that would babysit me and my siblings who had a VAIO laptop and it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen at the time.
I still use Vaio to this day, a 2012 Vaio PC S Series B16F Global Edition (VPCSB16FG). Runs very smoothly, has backlit keyboard, and has great durability (even after the previous owner-my close friend-dropped it and made a huge dent on the body). The only problems I have is the battery isn't working anymore recently (probably because of the age), and the thermal design is definitely flawed (the average temperature is 60-70°C, every time, even under light use). Weirdly, the heat is only generated on the right side of the body, while the left side is chilling. They put everything on the right: hard drive, processor, RAM, graphics card, everything. Nonetheless, I love it because the last laptop I had was slow as hell. Like, 1 GB of RAM, Pentium IV processor, and the like. I can't even play GTA San Andreas on the lowest settings before, and now I can play Far Cry 3, Fallout 3, Skyrim, and use Adobe Lightroom. It may not be much for most, but for me, that's huge. Can't thank God enough for this upgrade, LOL. Have a great day (or night), stranger! Greetings from Indonesia!
i used to have a vaio (thanks to dad being a truck driver and being able to afford it), i think it was the pcg-frv37, and i loved that thing. it made for a good desktop replacment at the time. after a good few years of use, the lamp that provides the screen's light gave out, and we decided to get a desktop, and Windows 7 was the latest Windows OS, and i was impressed by it. it was like XP 2.0 to me. ^_^ ahh the good ole days.. Windows 10 is not bad, and especially with the latest improvement to dark mode, I've gotten used to it, but it never had the same wow factor as XP or 7 did.
I remember one day when I was in 6th grade. I saw a Vaio laptop at school and I went absolutely nuts because I dreamed of having one just for myself...Ahhh...time flies.

This was the xps of 2010.
3:19 “So what exactly happened?”
Easily the beard
Let's not forget that Vaio actually started the island style keys before even Apple. Same with the hinge design. Lots of design cues from the Vaio days are still used today.
My favourite Austin video so far 😍
Vaio is still used today, my step dad has one
Plenty of legacy Vaio machines are still in use, but they offer so little value in current models that it just doesn't make economical sense to buy them. I knew plenty of folks with Vaio computers back when they were relevant, but the few I've seen with them today are just reusing and upgrading old models.
i like them because they start so many colors in laptops.
I actually have one.
The company's making a comeback btw
I remember going through Vaio magazines and dreaming of owning one.
My family got this VAIO desktop in 2001 and it's still kickin today, it's on its 3rd WinXP install though.
The new vaio company seems to recycle ♻ the old Sony vaio designs of laptops that are now 7+ years old. They just need to come up with some proprietary cool features like they used to.
"Activate windows" on the laptop XD
XP is my fav windows OS of all time!
I own a Vaio laptop.
I still use it.
I bought it when I joined college in 2013.
Still works fine.
Never had a VAIO device in the house (we were strictly a Dell family lol), but I have a cousin that was in college back in like 2006 that would babysit me and my siblings who had a VAIO laptop and it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen at the time.
Shaved his facial hair like Captain America did🤣😂
Fr
Im here. My name is vaios 😂😂 (greek name: Βάιος)
im sorry that sony abandoned you
That UX1080P was the stuff of my dreams back in 2006.
Also, ditch the moustache please.
It's like he's trying to hard to be older lol
I am still rocking a Sony VAIO FW 16.4", a VAIO Z series ultrabook, and a Pro Duo 13 convertible. The Pro Duo 13 still looks and feels modern.
The most important question is, can it still remote play to PS3?
You can to PS4, idk for PS3
vaio pro 13 how i miss it
How does this comment have zero likes on a verified channel lol
i really want a the P model to put linux on 😍😍
i used to have a vaio (thanks to dad being a truck driver and being able to afford it), i think it was the pcg-frv37, and i loved that thing. it made for a good desktop replacment at the time. after a good few years of use, the lamp that provides the screen's light gave out, and we decided to get a desktop, and Windows 7 was the latest Windows OS, and i was impressed by it. it was like XP 2.0 to me.
