- The writer and creator of Black Mirror talks to LBC radio's James O'Brien about making a satirical news programme about "the year from hell" (2016), channelling his love of The Twilight Zone into his sci-fi series and the one childhood ambition he has left standing: to make a ZX Spectrum game.

Charlie brooker is one of the most underrated tv personality on the BBC who's so unbelievably talented, real, sincere, funny and intelligent. Charlie keep being real and people love you for it ❤️
... someone has a crush...
I'm the sort of person who wheels into depression every time I get off internet... Charlie Brooker's amazing work has certainly helped me get through some depressing moments ever since I discovered him...
He's so damn right about satire making the world seem more sane. British satire has certainly done that for me. Really enjoy his work.
Yes for me too Jon. Often I think that I must have extreme almost crazy views that feel really isolating. Satirists often share those views and express them in a clear and concise manner, much better than I could ever do it.
And for me.
I can't imagine where - or who - I would be without.
I feel SO fortunate to have been introduced to Charlie - even if it was only recently.
That you for uploading this!
(And thanks to RUclips)
Brooker.
A true living legend.
I would LOVE to see Charlie Brooker's ZX Spectrum game.
#Bandersnatch
He rewrites himself while he's talking. Starts a sentence, deletes, restarts, thinks again, changes words and then decides on a way to say it and reaches the end of the sentence. Always fun and interesting to hear what's going on in this man's head.
littlegelland Like most people talk? Your comment sounds like someone who has never had a spoken conversation with another person
Maybe I'm a robot...
I understand what you mean. He's incredibly hesitant, and 'acts out' his thought-to-speech processes far more than most people. Very rarely I get a little frustrated by it, but mostly it's enlightening as you say.
If there is anyone on tv I could go to dinner with to have a good convo with it would be Charlie brooker !! Aspirational tv clip is amazing talent
Loved hearing him mentioning the ZX Spectrum this long before Bandersnatch
Watch "How Video Games Changed the World". He mentions ZX Spectrum a lot.
Interesting to stumble upon this. I was in the audience, front row, sitting about ten feet from Charlie. It was a great talk, and from memory went on quite a bit longer than this clip. And if you can track down a copy of TVGoHome it is worth reading. A spoof Radio Times (TV guide) with a vast number of made up channels and programs. Full of interesting facts such as "Members of your own family care more about what Cat Deely is wearing than whether you live or die", and lets just say I will never think of Mich Hucknall in the same way again.
Charlie Brooker #Legend 😎
Tend to agree but I still can't forgive him his bullshit reaction to Brexit and Trump in 2016 Wipe. I know he was trying to be funny but he just came across as a dick.
EDIT: Fuck, he was being serious. What a silly boy.
Edgy.
Tedious.
Jimmy Savile - Official Fan Channel Don't be so hard on yourself.
You thought the left wing Charlie Brooker was joking about Trump and Brexit? You're even less intelligent than I first gave you credit for and I set the bar low.
Modern day rod sterling .... Really cool dude...
Serling
new series of black mirror
8:13 Great advice for film makers!
2016: I'm the year from hell
2020: lol!
Charlie is like the present day Charles dickens ✌🏼😉 using satire to humiliate his opponents. He concentrates on the gap of rich and poor always highlights how tv makes people make believe. Charlie needs to do more he got so much to contribute. Please bring back more Charlie brooker adore him.
12:38 I wonder which episode he was talking about... I thought it had to be Playtest but that was released the previous year. Maybe Black Museum?
Legend
Is Mr Brooker made out of ghosts?
No, he is just a colourised b/w film.
That was going to be my second guest.
I would be too after being exposed to too much media.
Christ. Can't picture James without a beard.
Bubble Bobble is a great arcade game though
Why is the BFi buying 'knock-off' furniture?
Not a Noguchi
8:56 Censored? by whom!
Tosser the musical lol he's hysterical
Zombies attacking big brother would be house Is dream come true
HA HA HA because 'young people' know who Dorothy Parker is...
yeah we do
Phil Darby I don't
They forgot to white balance this vid before releasing it, Charlie looks like one of the walking dead and James looks like a pumpkin.
Racist!
Pretentious prat.
I was responding to the first nasty comment you deleted doos, and being a 20 year old who owns a copy of Photoshop Pro does not equate to 20 years professional experience little boy. But I'm interested in why you're so defensive, is your daddy the editor responsible for the mess?
superkaylo
Wish he was being interviewed by somebody less hateful
chris morris he ain't
He doesn't pretend to be. They're two very different characters. And they've each made a strong and valuable contribution to popular culture.
o no he's in the in group now, this is just like that episode of black mirror that's a bit like network where someone gets his own tv show where he threatens to kill himself every night as the gimmick, watch charlie brooker kill the man he used to be bit by bit. look at that haircut, and that smile, why is he smiling?
haircut and smile can be explained by referring to wife
I'm pretty sure that in the episode you mention Brooker was having a dig at himself and the position he found himself in, criticising the 'system' while benefiting from it. It seemed like that to me when I first saw it.
I think it's called '15 Million Merits'.
