Philipp Acker His Desert Island Discs episode on the website is well worth listening to.
Goddamn Charlie's a genius. It's been a real journey to watch him evolve from the guy who did those surprisingly funny comic ads in Mean Machines Sega (not that I knew it at the time), to cantankerous pop culture commentator, to really successful cantankerous pop culture commentator, to one of the best TV writers of recent decades.
What a legend.
Those ads were while he was working in Computer Exchange (now "Cex") on Tottenham Court Road.
I read his strips in Oink comic as a kid, having no idea the then-16-year-old Charlie would grow up to do Cex adverts.
Black Mirror is great. It's so good to see that Brooker isn't just a sour critic who can point out everything crappy about other people's work - he can put his money where his mouth is and produce some of the best television ever.

I love Brooker's analysis of every Black Mirror character's arc. They learn that it's worse than they feared. Perfect.

Only discovered this little gem of a series yesterday. Watched the 1st episode & then promptly streamed & watched all 4 seasons that have aired so far. Charlie Brooker has created a deeply scary (not in the Horror genre sense), highly watchable series. Long may he stay at the absolute top of the program creating Gods.

I loved this. Intelligent questions and brilliant answers from everybody. Black mirror continues to blow me away.
One of the episodes that's so believable in you could potentially see it happening is, Shut and Dance. It's so rooted in reality and has a similar kind of ending to White Bear where everything wasn't quite as how as you initially thought you had seen it to be.
So pleased twilight zone, the outer limits, tales of the unexpected et al is back in black mirror. I mean as a kid you really remembered that shit. So kids will have some nostalgia .....

I was terrified of Electricity aged 7 after watching a video about the danger of sub-stations in school where a kid kicks his football over into the station, climbs over to get it and exploded after touching something. There was another one where another kid climbed a Pylon to get a kite and had a similar experience of death.
those wider shots show that there arent many people in the audience, where is everyone? its such a fantastic show i'd expect it to be rammed!

A _Wagon Wheel_ is a big flat chocolatey biscuit filled with mallow and jam in case some people were wondering.
It's interesting that Charlie sees the ending of San Juipero as a 'Happy ending'. I thought the beauty of it was that it was so damn ambiguous... like it could be happy, if that's what you wanted, or maybe you'd get sick of it... maybe they DO get sick of it further down the line...
maybe that's the idea for the sequel

This show is a masterpiece. On par with the early seasons of "House of Cards" in the brilliance of its scripts and dialogue. The technology is tons of fun, too: "A History of You" especially hits close to home (the male character treats, and abuses, the technology in a way I think a lot of us would get caught up doing)

I normally don't care about spoilers. A lot of films and television shows are so predictable that spoilers are not really that big a deal. However Black Mirror's formula lives and dies on that third act reveal. That trailer is spoiler heavy. I am glad I did not see the trailer before watching the show.
The trailer's a load of 1-second glimpses edited together. It doesn't give away anything far as I can tell.

kissben that episode is the only one that makes me nearly cry but from happiness so yeah
kissben i agree, i found it somewhat sad. They are basically cookies living in a graveyard (the chips look like epitaphs in a crypt) while the original body/mind dies. and in the "cookies afterlife" the conclusion to their existence seems to be "The Quagmire" where people seem to try to break the unending monotony of life.
The only way for me to conceive it to be truly happy, is if their love truly saves them from the dullness of eternal life.
I count it as bittersweet. I think Nosedive's ending is more just straightforwardly joyful.

BTW, I didn't really like San Junipero, and I think the ending is everything but a happy one!

The story about the doctor was an original short story by Penn. The rest of it, including the framing device of the museum, is all Charlie's work.

"Hated In The Nation" was just fucking daft and silly. Lots of things that weren't possible. Not because the technology isn't here yet, but because it would always be impossible.
Also the reason you should remove metal when you have an MRI scan, is because metal makes the scan blurry around that area. It doesn't fly out through your skull at a million miles per hour. I've been MRIed and my various metal implants didn't even tingle. So that was bollocks.
Also the bit about the bees being able to self-replicate from rubbish. Making microchips takes enormous huge factories that use megawatts of electricity and are thousands of times cleaner than an operating theatre. Robot bees can't do it in a square hive.
Their little solar panel wings wouldn't produce enough power for them even if they were 100% efficient because the amount of energy in sunlight in a tiny area just isn't that much.
I'm not just being a pedant, the bee thing destroyed the suspension of disbelief. The stuff in San Junipero might be possible from what we know about brain scans. Theoretically there's no reason it can't work. But robot bees, no, even in theory.

I have watched almost every episode of Black Mirror now and I find it dull, predictable, and saying nothing new. You can find many sci fi films from the 70s that are far better than anything in this series. Westworld, for one. Oh and The Stepford Wives. And Logan's Run.
