- This short video is about using the Korg NTS-2 oscilloscope as a musical instrument. Sort of? It's more of an overview and a few specific thoughts than any sort of tutorial. I hope it gives you some ideas for using the NTS-2 in your own sounds. Thanks for watching!
TIMELINE
00:00 The NTS-2 has an X-Y Mode. Quite nice.
00:11 INTRO
Just some general thoughts about the NTS-2. Is it useful? Is it the best value? It took forever to get one (and then I took forever to make this video).
05:10 HANDS ON
I focus on the signal generation capacities of the NTS-2, specifically for audio signal generation. Pretty much any of this could be taken to a higher voltage and used as an offboard modulation voltage for some modular or semi-modular synth.
17:21 OUTRO
Brief music discussion. If you want the specific frequencies that I used in the demo (below) then leave a comment and I'll do my best.
18:54 DEMO
Sort of a sketch of a song? I'm taking sounds out of the two generator channels of the NTS-2 and running them through the Walrus Audio M1 modulation pedal for some reverb. One thing I do, not mentioned in the hands on part of the video, is cycle through the different generator types to make a simple melody (on Channel 2). Видеоклипы
Not knocking this one, but the Zoyi brand model ZT-703S 50MHz BW dual channel 3-in-1 Oscilloscope, 25,000 count Multimeter, Signal Generator blows my mind, and frees my Saleae Logic 8 from having to do Analog stuff setting its Logic Analyzer free, 1/2 price for hobbyists on their site. It may be small, but it is a thick aluminum enclosure.
Thank You, Maestro. I may get this guy when if I go modular.
I adore your non-CGI snails.
That sounds super nice! It's just amazing how much test equipment has evolved (and become affordable) over the years.
That clip of the snail (Gary) and fish was placeholder footage at first, but I've never had the heart to change it🥺.
Thanks for watching and discussion here🙏🏼!
Glad to see you back, great video as always. One of the most interesting music production channels on RUclips 💯
Thanks so much! I really appreciate the feedback🙏🏼!
Your camera setup on the device is spot-on perfect, best of breed, actually, Maestro.
Many thanks! It is a Canon G7-X Mark iii. I used the Mark ii for years on here and when it was time for a new one it sort of seemed like a solid choice just to get the new version. I'm zoomed a little (optical) and I have autofocus turned off so it doesn't change planes to my hands. Depth of field always seems pretty nice (I think due to the relatively big sensor area).
The little guys, like NTS's or Kastles or such, are always kind of trial and error. I was glad that the scope display didn't phase with the framerate (had that happen in my first Arturia MicroFreak video - some pulsations that were sort of awful).
Thanks again🙏🏼!
Awesome, I’ve been looking forward to your take on this one
Thanks! the video is pretty targeted / limited, but if there is anything specific I can answer then let me know, will do my best!
Hello ‼️so happy you make a vidéo about nts2 ‼️🙏
It' s one of my futur "machine"
Sorry for my bad english....
I do love all your vidéos‼️
Thank you for watching the video🙏🏼!
Thanks for showing some creative ways to use the NTS-2 on its own. Always thought this was just an Oscilloscope/ CV generator 😊
You bet! Thanks for checking out the video😀!
hell yeah!!!!!!!!!
Well, it was your cool NTS-2 posts on IG (marc.wav_) that got me back online trying to order it - so thanks😀! And thanks for checking out the vid🙏🏼!
Nearly bought one of those from Korg at Synthfest UK in October. My friend got one but I ended up getting another SQ1 and a Volca Drum. They were going at a 50% discount. Didn't need a scope as I have a decent Siglent 🖖
Second SQ-1 and a Volca Drum sounds like a great call👍🏻! This NTS-2 is nice, but really not a must-have (especially if you already have scope capacities). Thanks for checking out the video🙏🏼!
WHAT'YAH MEAN I SHOULD TURN IT DOWN FIRST DOC? HUH? SPEAK UP, FELLA. I'M HAVIN A HARD TIME HEARING YAH.
🤣
