I've long thought about getting one of these just to use the effects with my Volca FM2, but it's clearly an absurdly powerful little synth for under two hundred clams. I'm really impressed with the sounds you were pulling out of the thing.

I’ve been planning to buy an NTS-1 at some point and I’m so glad I haven’t yet! Lots of nice new features. I’ll probably never use the keyboard on it but I didn’t like how it looked on the old one. This one looks much better. Will definitely be buying one of these.
I was kind of doubting myself with the speaker feat 😅 This looks like a nice little update. I hope the NTS1mk2 will recognize local-off MIDI CC now too, would make that little keyboard and CC’s more useful for a small setup controller 😃 if Korg adds that we will show it haha 😎
@@newignis yes it does, but but not the midi local-off command which is a handy command which detaches the controllers from the sound engine so you can use midi routing/modifiers to make more goodies
I agree. The third time I lost a nice patch I threw it in my cable box. You can’t keep it powered up 24/7. They should spend another dollar on a small EEPROM.
I've been keeping an eye on the original NTS-1 to come back in stock since adding Sinevibes plugins for the Minilogue XD, but guess this is why the stock was so low. Heard that the old generation user plugins don't work on the mk2 yet, but is sure they would be easy enough to update and that at least Sinevibes will be supporting it. Still, with the wait, I've grown slightly less interested in it and now there's even the NTS-3 to potentially fill the effect processor role.
The S1 has a much better sequencer. And its sound shaping is a bit more advanced (but also a bit complicated bc its in menus!). The NTS1 can be expanded with user osc and it can work as an FX unit. Oh and S1 is battery powered!
Very cool! I used to have the mk1, but I sold it because you couldn't save presets and there wasn't a spillover function, so every time you changed the page and turned the knobs the settings/sounds would jump abruptly. But...these issues are still inside the mk2! Why Korg?!? At least the spillover function...
So awesome as this is, I stumbled on to the new mini Beheringers which look equally ( possibly more) impressive any reviews in the works for the Jt-4000 or the Pro VS? Both or which seem amazing given the apparent price/performance ratio?

I want to add this to my solar 42...does it have separate oscillator volume and external input volume controls? Like, can I turn the nts voice down whilst keeping the volume of the Solar?
How difficult is it to use as an FX box for other gear? Do you have to leave on a drone note or anything or is it just as simple as getting a 1/8 adapter for the audio in?
You simply turn OFF the oscillator and turn on OPEN gate for the envelope. And that should be it. You can also choose to route the audio either to OSC (for mod) or pre filter, pre eg, pre fx. So theres a few routing options. Those routings require manual.
The original just processed incoming audio and routed it through the fx the moment you plugged stuff in and it turned on. I'd be surprised if it would be harder on the mk2.

Its very different Volca keys is 3 note paraphonic analog synth. Quite warm fuzzy tone. Better sequencer than nts-1 but no fx I think This is monophonic and has tripple FX, and works as an external FX. And it has an ARP
Not that it isn't powerful for the money, but the huge price jump means it's no longer as much of an impulse buy, and the big power doesn't really come with an upgrade to controls/workflow (aside from the better keyboard, which I feel is probably actually cheaper for them to produce and not part of the cost increase).It's a tough sell at $180, when a Roland S-1 is about the same price and is actually a fun to use synth with a workable sequencer. The NTS has much more flexible and powerful effects, but the synth is pretty useless without external gear, which just ads more cost, size, and setup work. The NTS-3 seems to maximize the strengths of the NTS-1, putting the 1mk2 in a really awkward spot.
I wish Elta would just decide to send me a Solar 42, to make melodies on top of my LXR-02. They are a match from a place standing strong against RuZFed. 😁
At that price point the Roland s-1 is a far more attractive option. The rechargeable battery, motion fx and more robust build means I use my S-1 for more than my NTS-1.

Mk1 did allow reverb and delay as well simultaneously. I’m doing it all the time. It depends on the complexity of the chosen effect however. If an effect uses too much memory or CPU it didn’t allow you to combine with certain other effects.
I’m not sure if it’s just my copy but the NTS-1 seemed to have a high-pitched whine unless I could get the USB positioned just right. Did you find this one to be quieter in operation?

I loved version 1, so much I purchased it twice as while this in many ways a wonderful instrument, it is not at all well constructed, both fairly quickly became unusable. While it certainly is not an expensive synth to buy once, 7 would get you a Grandmother.

As somebody who uses both an NTS-1 and iPads... In terms of bang-for-buck, the price and ease-of-use of iOS music apps is hard to beat. But even with hundreds of apps/plugins on my iPad, my NTS has a comparable amount of standouts. It's a microcosm of the old gear-vs-computer debate, comparing making the most of curated sets of limitations (gear) to complete generality (computer). The workflow and tactility are of course different. There are algorithms on the Korg multiengine gear that aren't available elsewhere, but it's still a subjective call whether those might be of value to you.
@@voltijuice8576 - I had another look at the iPad style of apps and how they compare with the hardware instruments (like the Kong) and I’m wondering if the dependence of the app designs on skeuomorphic representations of the hardware hasn’t been a mistake. Perhaps a new touch screen design for synths, DAWs, Grooveboxes, etc., should be created that takes advantage of the UI/UX provided by (for example) the iPad. Is this something worth pursuing?

Korg had no choice but to bring out a mk2 version because of a manufacturing defect in the mk1 version. I got my mk1 for about £25 because the track had come apart from the PCB and hence the left hand channel was dead. But I really hope there is some kind of firmware update for the mk1. Also, the most annoying thing about the mk1 version is the lack of presets unless connected to a computer. And that terrible keyboard! Edit... £170??! Are Korg mad? Nope. Won't be buying another.

theres a little more options on MK2 since you can route it to modulate the oscillator. but unless you use that feature its very similar@@OttosTheName

Does the MK II do delay and reverb at the same time? That was one of the most frustrating limitations of the MK I

Perhaps a new touch screen design for synths, DAWs, Grooveboxes, etc., should be created that takes advantage of the UI/UX provided by (for example) the iPad. Is this something worth pursuing?

I wouldn`t call it a Synth but more an "Effects Generator". In my view Synths make music but I wouldn`t call the end result here as being musical.

Korg had no choice but to bring out a mk2 version because of a manufacturing defect in the mk1 version. I got my mk1 for about £25 because the track had come apart from the PCB and hence the left hand channel was dead. But I really hope there is some kind of firmware update for the mk1. Also, the most annoying thing about the mk1 version is the lack of presets unless connected to a computer. And that terrible keyboard! Edit... £170??! Are Korg mad? Nope. Won't be buying another.

With the little NTS1MK2I need a wanna purchase, but makes me kind of feel inferior when he's running a $5000 synthesizer, along with this. Thing I wanna buy just a bad choice. In my opinion makes me think that all these guys have all these things that were given to them just because they have a RUclips channel. Just lazy, just lazy lazy lazy people
