This game was peak online Pokemon for me because the GTS has yet to be topped in terms of a fast, fun, and easy way to communicate, trade and battle with other trainers worldwide.
It's insane to think this game is 10 years old; this really was a magical time to fall back in love with Pokemon

there are plenty of people that like this system more then what gen 7 came up with, heck I for one prefer it, I am not a fan of how forced that stuff was in gen 7.

There will be community run servers. You can still battle/trade in the DS games and you can even see what’s available on the GTS on their private server

With a modded 3DS you could just turn them into eggs and just randomly select them.
Sadly can't be used without a PKMN Center now.

X&Y always felt like the last "Traditional" Pokemon games to me. Yes, It had mega evolution, but not every milestone had it, unlike Gen 7,8&9. The gyms in X&Y actually felt like gyms & not like minigames.
X&Y was also the last NEW pokemon game that you were able to play with the D-Pad. I'm telling you, go back & play x&y with 99% of the time using the d-pad. It's such a different feeling compared to the circle stick & the games that only use the circle stick since. The circle stick always feels like my character is not moving fast enough.
& Don't even get me started on how Kalos was the last good region design we had as well. Why the older regions were so much better was because everything felt so connected, like with Kalos, everything eventually connected to Lumiose City. Since then we haven't had a Pokemon game that was this connected on the map.
& Finally this was the last new pokemon game where the online functionality was at its peak. The PSS was so simple, yet so fun. It wasn't complex & was so clean. I truly believe that the PSS was the reason why Pokemon youtube was so great in 2013 & 2014. Everything was just so nice.
My best advice about x&y is, even if the story wasn't the best, you were free to create your own adventure. Even if the game was easy due to the exp. Share, you had the choice to turn it off. These were the last Pokemon games that gave me choice & when the servers shutdown, I know that the community behind these games will choose to keep them up & running again. That was pokemon x & y. The last pokemon games that gave us the choice to connect.
For me gen 7 was the last Pokemon game that felt like Pokemon to me even without gyms
That's weird to think about, not being able to use the D-Pad to move the character and instead use the analog stick to do so. Resident Evil (especially the PS1/Gamecube days) allowed you to move the character using the D-Pad as well. But by the time Resident Evil 4 came around, pretty much many stuck with analog controls and, well, to this very day people use the analog stick more often than the Directional pad. Although you'd be surprised that there are some games out there whom allow you to use the D-Pad, much like you would use the Analog stick to do so.
I played gen 1&2 back in the day gen 6 got me back into it. Gen 8 got me out of it

As someone who's replaying Pokemon X with the intention of getting the Shiny Charm, I can safely say that the offers in the GTS are insane now. You literally HAVE to either get a Shiny or another Legendary Pokemon in Wonder Trade just to turn around and trade it, because everything available at the moment is either asking for a Legendary Pokemon, something that's Level 100, or hacked.
Pokémon Y and 3DS era in general are some of my absolute favorites. I wish they would move this version of the online functionality, 60 FPS gameplay and the flying from ORAS to a newer gen game.
As a 31 year old whose played pokemon since red and blue, this game is very special. The first game that I actually completed the pokedex. The first game that I started shiny hunting. The first game I started breeding for competitive battling. So many hours, I remember being at 999.59 hours in lol. I'm super stoked for Pokemon Legends Z-A.
We should all hop on GTS during the final week and do one last batch pf Wonder Trades on the 3DS system!
It's genuinely so sad and weird that we'll never be able to officially experience the online servers soon.

I remember trying to get all kalos starter pokemon through wondertrade before the first badge and doing a playthrough with them :D This makes me miss these innocent times
Gen 6 brought me back to the franchise too. The black and white era i dipped out (tho have sense played them and like them quite a bit) but the 3Ds games reinvigorated my love of Pokemon.

i remember when they first brought x/y out and remembering all the 3d hype behind it, sad we never got the Z title we all were waiting for for that gen, maybe now the gen 5 remakes will come as have pokemon that we still cant use in the current gen games on the switch...

Ever since I played Y, I've used Surprise trades (or equivalent) to try to use random trades to fill my Dex. It's sad to see it go.

Literally doing wonder trades while watching and got a shiny, presumably hacked, of one of the lake legendaries from D/P/P. Wish i had a 3ds growing up, definitely missed out on memories here.

I recently did a playthrough and it was very difficult to find someone to battle online. Sun and moon seems to be a bit more populated. It’s a shame because I had such a good time battling online back in the day.
You could've searched for Volcanion, there's an option to type the name of a Pokémon you haven't seen/caught right near the bottom of the list.
Currently transferring all of my Pokémon to current gen. Then I plan on resetting them all and have fresh play throughs again
GTS was the best thing for me who has no friends. I was able to trade with myself to get trade evolutions & starters by putting a magikarp on the GTS for a haunter, kadabra, etc. and more often than not it worked out.
with the new announcements this video aged pretty well

I began playing Pokemon X last year. Love the game, love the gts. Just a shame i came across a lot of hacked pokemon on my part by trading :(

I love wonder trading in XY or ORAS because you get points... and I am saving for rare candy.. a lot of them...but in April no more rare candy 😢
This might be a silly question to ask but do you think with the Internet function taken off the game, we won't be able to get event pokemon in DS games using that one DNS method?
Anytime I ever played X/Y I always did a Wonderlocke. I may have to do one more Wonderlocke before the servers shut down.

I got into pokemon in gen 6 and though i wasnt able to play the game until a few months ago i loved kalos
The anime
The designs (im a sucker for chivalry and medieval fantasy themes)
The 3d adding more animations
The character customization
The badge designs (if you look at the in game models each one has a gemstone in the color of their corresponding gyms and i love it)
The legendaries (ignoring game performance, lore wise they are awesome)
And surprisingly most of all the super training. Not so much in xy but for ORAS as it helped me get a gallade on my team alongside a simultaneously caught and leveled up gardevoir before the wally fight (ralts chain is one of my all time favs top 3 and i just had to have a perfect set gallade and gardevoir as an unstoppable duo in hoenn)
Though i will acknowledge its shortcomings
The anime (i personally thought it was awesome but there are some intensely toxic haters (not just on the serena war come on guys is this really worth death threat level arguing and i had a 17 hour debate with another replier in december who really REALLY hated kalos and i was trying to defend kalos (i mean it was “gen 6 was the worst gen ever” and “ash was far superior as unova ash than kalos ash” level toxicity))
The pokedex (face it, its just so small compared to everything these days)
The glitches (which given bugs in galar and paldea it does make sense for the first game of its console)
The difficulty (i agree it is a lot easier than most games but i will justify by my experience in heartgold right before this: heartgold was the only pokemon game i ever lost, as in utterly demolished in the champion battle, and im still thankful it got a bit easier. Not paldea level easy but a bit more chill given world-ending hydreigons in my b2 run that i only could counter with my vaporeon)
The games (seriously why hasnt kalos got even one more game it is literally the only region with less than 4 games/addons at a grand total of two)
The legendaries (xerneas was too op, yveltal was cool but not as used, zygarde got bullied in every single way possible (nonexistent in base games, treasure hunt gimmick in sm that was just tedious come on, postgame lock in usum, dlc lock in swsh, nonexistent in sv, AND lousy movie cameo performance? Honestly face it the only reason we all know zygarde (and why its my fav mon) is its anime performance: that last battle was just awesome. Say all you want about the xy anime, XYZ was just awesome)
I personally think this is due to xy being treated as a prototype more than an actual game, losing many features other games had (more pokedex, additional content, box legendary zygarde) in favor of testing out experimental gimmicks like roller skates (still my fav mode of moving in pokemon to this day), pokeamie (which evolved into food time), super training (which i think was a factor in exp candy), 3d graphics (modern games still use gen 6 models), improved online interactions, and character customization (save for sv, dunno why)
All i can say is that despite everything, kalos was awesome for what it was: pokemon’ first flababy steps into the world of 3d games

Just did the GTS last night and gave a ditto away for a mew for fun.
I now have a mew, but I made sure to check it on the event website to make sure it wasn’t hacked
The ribbon is removed if nothing else. Mew wasn’t supposed to be tradable

You can search for a Pokémon by the name at the bottom you just need to spell it correctly so you could check volcanion or luminion
Removing the ability to add people for their gardens to shiny hunt in makes me sad. I used it to shiny hunt either an abra or kadabra can't remember which was in the garden.
