Those taped up lights under the bumper are for foglights (looks like they've been removed). The blue strap in the trunk is pretty rare, the white gauge cluster is also rare, and those carbon fiber mirrors are Ganadors that are worth about $1k for a pair. Check the engine to see if it's flooded. Rotaries flood easily if they are run for a short time and shut off without warming up. Pull the EGI fuse (big yellow fuse in the main fuse box). Then pull the leading or trailing plug in the first housing. Hold the gas pedal all the way down and crank the engine for 10-20s. Do the same thing for the rear housing. Put in some new spark plugs, put the fuse back in, and try to start the car.
I'm building a FB with a FC front subframe and 13B and I can't agree more that it's likely flooded. Marvel Mystery Oil after cranking with the fuse pulled and give it a shot once it's warmed up.
Before starting, put some marvel mystery oil in the chambers. I did that when I started my RX7 that had been sitting for 10 years and got it running after changing the fuel pump.
I know the LS is overdone in the states, and also might be easier to get all necessary bits on the sponsorship...get the rotary shop guys to step up to the mark. Personally I'd like this with the LS, keep up the good work!
You’re really positive and I respect that. I’m sure all of us are building some sort of project and know how easy it is to get discouraged so thanks for the constant positivity bro 🙏🏻!
OK you have the dual oil coolers, no sunroof, strut bar and suede seats (passenger) which in the states were all R1 features. The wires taped up at 6:10 are for the fog lights. The fenders on the car the ones for sale everywhere on Ebay. If you want aftermarket I would recommend Shine. They make a lot of cool stuff for the FD. Those blue Bride seats are pretty common in Japan but pretty rare here in America. All the FD mirrors start to look like that after a long time. Its actually the glue separating the layers coming apart at the bottom. The car could be flooded if it wont start. Look up the un-flood procedure. Its a pain.
I love how the second you post a video saying you ordered the car from Japan and it will be here in a few months the next day there's a great video on the car
As someone who is also fixing up an rx-7 good luck, mazdatrix and atkins rotary are an excellent place to find oem parts or similar. Also the rx-7 community is really great and welcoming over at rx7club if you have any questions!
God, I would pull everything. Harness, Engine, interior, Dash everything... I have a feeling a new harness might be needed since the water damage seems quite extensive. Once everything is out take everything one by one and check.
Badstainless All that in 3 weeks, even a proffesional shop with 5 employers working on it its not possible. Its not overhaulin with a crew of 30 and the "magic of television' He wants to take it to disneyworld in 3 weeks. Even the bare minimum to get it driveable there safely is a big question mark
Badstainless like with everythíng on this channel he sets a timeframe. I thought the only one that he didnt was with te mustang. I agressief with you, if this is his dream car i would take my time, strip it completly and start from there. It will take about a year but he could do other cars next to it
Yeah, I'd yank all the driveline stuff out get it looked at and compression tested (yes, it can be done on a rotary) at least. I'd probably get a new ECU and eliminate that as a potential problem to boot. It'd be pretty much a full rebuild if I were doing it.
This is the best way to go about this car. It's exactly what I did. He can pull the harness, source a new motor and harness and cram it all in in a couple weeks. The rest of the car has major issues.
Magonza which flood damage is likely to cause, the white marks are caused by water damage and the ecu is low in the passenger foot well. It can all be fixed but caution is the name of the game. Many nasty diseases could be caught if he was cut on the metalwork for example.
Magonza yeah you're correct if it was from the last big tsunami it'd be long gone. I guess it's more likely to be recent flood damage or simple water damage. Certainly lots of evidence for it. I'd be wearing thick gloves for sure! Empty the interior and wiring then clean the shell thoroughly
I had one of those.. Rear seats are really rare in the US! The car didn't have a great grounding side of the wiring. Adding a wide from the battery to the engine helped a good bit for smoothness at high rpm
No Start: the Rotary engine is notorious for flooding if not allowed to get up to temp. And if it ran like poo, it's likely bad fuel fouling the plugs. Strange tapping into the wiring near the driver. There's an "ETC" Electronic Toll Collection box in most Japanese cars. They look like a skinny external 3.5" floppy drive that a driver can pop their toll registration card into before driving. it's likely just binned and the person left the wires. :)
Damp Ecu can be a nightmare on the old jdm cars. Had the same on my mr2 that was stored for 7 years. Check for leaking capacitors! Loving the project man.
drain and flush tank and coolant and oil. Soggy seats suggest the car may have been at least partially under water. get the wiring dried out and see if that helps with electrical system. you could use a spray that displaces moisture on the wiring, especially components including distributer and coils. Hope this helps and looking forward to seeing this project complete. Best of luck!
I am so excited for daily videos. BIFB is life. Getting a nice little pressure washer would be such a great addition to the shop. Not sure if you have one but I love not getting all nasty every time I work on my projects.
Hey brother, I love this show and cars are my life, but Alcohol and cars don’t mix!! Please stop drinking and driving. I know their are young people watching this show and you are leaving the impression that it’s ok to drink and drive. You have to be smarter man!!!!
I know you are always saying drink responciably...but everyone's body reacts, & has different tolerances to alcohol.....buzzed is impaired ....love ya' bro want you around a long time...!!!
Check your cpu2 for your flasher issue. In a US spec it's under the driver side kick panel. I had similar trouble as well as the car wouldn't shut off when the key was removed and the cpu2 fixed it
RETRA stands for RETRACTABLE HEADLIGHTS , so the relay to the motors. since they work I suppose the power is coming from another source. If ain't broke.........
Nebbia affaraccimiei the jumpers look similair to what I did with the first 240 I had I wonder if he put them on a switch to give the car the sleepy eye mod
I love to see a Initial D build to be done with the RX-7 or the RE Amemiya kit. I like the VLOG stuff Chris, it adds a new side the channel and helps fill down time while you're waiting for parts. Will Chelsea be helping you with the build? I think it's awesome you have a really cool down to earth partner who is happy to help you work on cars and go to meets. Marriage material dude!
You can buy that candy bar in the japan costco .. also the relay patch for the radio is for a car Nav I'm guessing the wires from the ECU are for the navi
My brother bought an rx8 a while ago from copart. Couldn’t start it until we took an ounce or two of oil into the rotors. *Apparently* it helps with the corner seals
Cars like that are so freaking rewarding when done right... lots of issues and feels like it has a mind of it own, crazy lights, pop ups that wont go down or up the car brakes using the horn instead of the break pedal OH and cant forget about the magical leaks, you know 100% theres a leak somewhere but when you go under to check everthing is perfect you go out leaks aggain XD
So keen for this build! Chris since the car looks to be rather just miss matched and a backyard job on a lot, I know you are replacing the fuel but I would check the fuel lines and make sure they are still good, Wouldn't want lines degraded and putting gunk in with the fuel!
I'm beginning to be concerned that he might be on the way to an alcoholic. I have a hard time recalling a video where there's no alcohol involved. I fear for his liver. Beyond that, I'm looking forward to seeing this particular build progress.
Pfffft thats not beer. That's lemonade with beer flavor. 8% tripple is the way to go. But anyway, he usually is working pretty long on these things. So the in shop beer is out off his sytem before he leaves home.
I agree I mean why do you even need to drink? He is putting innocent lives at risk by his stupidity. Remember this every drop of alcohol reduces your senses if a kid runs out in the street and you drank half a beer you could kill them because you react slower... you dont want that to be your fault. If you drink and drive not matter how much or how little in your eyes you are saying its okay to murder someone... Word of advise stop drinking completely you will feel much better alcohol is a legal drug...
I just noticed the Nissan wheels. Electrical... I had problems with an old truck I traced down some part numbers to LoJack, after pulling the dash out. I haven't gone through the entire harness since I ended up abandoning the project and going a different route (truck bed trailer, because the cab was totally screwed from the wreck), but I discovered that the harness had been pulled from the truck and some things were replaced or rerouted very professionally. Hopefully you don't have that large of a mess to sort out.
Hi Chris, the dating system is slightly different here in Japan, the numbers basically mean that the last inspection was valid until October 17th, as for the year, it's Heisei 27, which means the last inspection was valid until October 17th, 2015, meaning it last passed the Shaken (inspection/saftey/MOT) in October, 2013.
I’m still waiting to see you in traffic out here(totally would’ve rescued ya at the hwy 26 tunnel crash lol!). So much familiar scenery! Keep it up Big Dawg!!!
Yoooooo look at the tire dates to find out the last time the previous owner put tires on it! It mite give you more information about the last time it ran
Isn't that a Maradona Sticker with the number 10, referring to his number and the colour is the Argentinian flag? Don't forget Japanese people like soccer.
FYI, the reason why the wires disconnected under the driver seat is kill the seat belt alarm while driving, but those were needed to be still there for “shaken” which is like smog check ; all the safety feature need to be in workable condition. That’s why many of Japanese just disconnect it to kill but make it able to put it back for the checking. Ur rx7 looks nice, I wish I could have rx7 while I was in the us. That car sold as parts ripping car for ur main car... so must be very hard, but I’m looking for ur rx7 running!
That car was inspected in october 2013✌('ω'✌ )三✌('ω')✌三( ✌'ω')✌ (Blue sticker on front glass shows registration expire date is somewhere in october(10月) 2015(平成27年). And we have inspection every 2 years.)
It's interesting if this passed inspection in it's current state. Ugh... Could have possibly absorbed some water on the ship from Japan, windows not closed doors taped off.. yeah I wonder how waterproof that was.
Man I’m so stoked for this build. I’ve started to be obsessed with your videos. I don’t know a damn thing about cars either but your builds are so satisfying.
Hey chris love the car bro.. rotary engine is notorious for not starting when its been sitting for a while... Since its manual try push starting it.. works for us 80% of the time.. goodluck bro
Rotaries are notorious for flooding if you only move them a short distance and shut them off. Pull the fuel pump fuse and try cranking it a few times, then replace the fuse and hopefully it should start. You might have to repeat the process multiple times. Once you get it going it may smoke and you may need to rev it a bit to stop it stalling until the idle balances out
Those taped up lights under the bumper are for foglights (looks like they've been removed). The blue strap in the trunk is pretty rare, the white gauge cluster is also rare, and those carbon fiber mirrors are Ganadors that are worth about $1k for a pair.

I'm building a FB with a FC front subframe and 13B and I can't agree more that it's likely flooded. Marvel Mystery Oil after cranking with the fuse pulled and give it a shot once it's warmed up.
They were probably removed to fit a front mount
get this up further
I'm so freaking jealous! Cannotttt wait to see how this turns out!!
Jimmy Oakes didn’t expect to see you here jimmy
me neither
Hello James
Where's ur Rx-7?
literally just came from Jimmy's video.
Before starting, put some marvel mystery oil in the chambers. I did that when I started my RX7 that had been sitting for 10 years and got it running after changing the fuel pump.
Tavarish getting like no exposure to this lol
Tavarish is straight Gangstah, he straight hood yo!
Chris will be finishing his rx-7 before tj and its gonna look better 🤣
Ik😂
JET 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 but tj his car paint is mad white.
Matthew Tj Hunt
Matthew he’s this other RUclipsr that owns an RX7. Just type up tjhunt and you’ll find him.
I think tjs engine might be better 🤔 maybe
Good lord. Even imagining that conversation with the DMV gave me an ulcer.
aserta people always say how bad it is to GO to the dmv, imagine WORKING there every day lmao
I know the LS is overdone in the states, and also might be easier to get all necessary bits on the sponsorship...get the rotary shop guys to step up to the mark. Personally I'd like this with the LS, keep up the good work!
Im glad she is ok man. Thanks for walking us through the FD Its going to be a fun build.
Thank god you uploaded and saved me from this boredom LOL !!!!

Doesn't shine usually have a lead time of 6 weeks?
I love how the second you post a video saying you ordered the car from Japan and it will be here in a few months the next day there's a great video on the car
M&R Tuning he bought it 8 months ago.
Thst footage of him saying that was from may.
pretty clever how he archived that piece from last year for the video though, made for a great intro for the reveal.
overnight shipping from japan scrub
M&R Tuning it was an old video
The daily format was more comical than informative, but I think I enjoyed that more. Keep it up!
Bring these daily videos!👍🏻👍🏻

I really liked how you keep the quality up on the uploads although it’s much more than usual!
Just don´t do something stupid with it like trying to make a 4 rotor
Jerrypintoswe #Rob Dahmass! jk it takes a lot of time and monies to do so
Jerrypintoswe PPRE in NZ sells the quad rotor block here for 36,000nzd.
It’s the awd part that’s whack about that build
*QUAD ROTOR BUILD MAYBE?!*
12 rotors in a V shape!
UPS LOST MY 4-ROTOR
24 rotor
I REALLY like the faded paint on that headlight, it has so cool patina. Just leave it as it is!
sick jdm ganador mirrors
I’d love to just even see the evora again. That was the build that got me in to this channel and I don’t think I’ve seen it recently
Hmm... Did you buy a tsunami car? There were thousands of them after the 2011 disaster. :(
Ian Hobday seems this could be a sensible conclusion. With the wet interior, dodgy electrics, watery fuel, not starting
It would be completely covered in rust if it was one. It is just wet inside from the missing door windows.
Magonza which flood damage is likely to cause, the white marks are caused by water damage and the ecu is low in the passenger foot well. It can all be fixed but caution is the name of the game. Many nasty diseases could be caught if he was cut on the metalwork for example.

Taste the white marks, salty? May still be damaged by tsunami, just not totally wrecked. Still previous owner was a bit of a butcher.
Been following you since the start of this channel, man I love your content, keep up the good work!
I wouldn't mind dailying an Aston martin... also I have that same battery for my mustang!
I had one of those.. Rear seats are really rare in the US! The car didn't have a great grounding side of the wiring. Adding a wide from the battery to the engine helped a good bit for smoothness at high rpm
Love the RDH rx7 😉😂
the fact your going oem is the best 👍👍 i love drifting like but its nice to see clean examples on the road instead of em all being track slags
Talk to Tommyfyeah, He is the RX7 man
Started watching for the M5, sticking around for the FD, you're awesome bud
Please keep the pop up headlight style
The daily was great Chris ! Really stoked to hear your idea for the build in more detail once the engine starts zooming :- )

Busters Garage that or a turbo timer. They love those damn things in Japan.
Dan Bonnett yes, yes they do!
Dooooope! I'm excited to see the Brotory come to life. Gonna be a sick build man.

The white stuff is probably foam from the fire extinguisher
I was going to comment this, it could be a dry powder extinguisher also.
WolfCastle Yh I just makes sense since their was clearly a fire in the transmission tunnel

The engine is probably flooded. Never let a rotary run for less than 5-10 minutes before shutting off.
Opens the hood. First tool on hand is a grinder. Thats why i love your channel man!
Nothing about that Marijuana AirFreshener ? Ahah
Enjoying this a lot already, can't wait to see where you take things tomorrow.
Try to get in touch with tommyfyeah he's a fellow RUclips who is a guru with FD RX7 seriously he's a guru
1986_ChevyOwner bump
He just parted out an rx7
Tommy will charge him an arm and a leg for FD parts, like the numbers he got for parting out that FD were pretty insane
Fuck sake Rob Dahm is more of a Guru than Tommy. Tommy is just a guy who loves RX-7s and parts out shit ones.
Shona I'd argue Tommy knows more about the chassis because of all his time with them, dahm knows t he Motors better tho
Strip the whole car, and make it your main project :) it would be so nice to see you, doing a full reconstruction of a car ;)
So much for the shorter videos 🤣. Not complaining though
This seems like an overwhelming project. Electrical issues are a pain in the ass. Excited for the future, good luck man!

Me thinks you got a 2011 tsunami flood car....
digitaljosh1 so it stayed wet for 7 yrs
Minecraft andstuff nope, it’s salt water, the damage is done, any kind of moisture starts it again. That white stuff on the carpet? I bet that’s salt.
I think that white stuff on his carpet is from the fire extinguisher used.

Tj has parts
Looking forward to seeing what you do with it. Need to sort out our poor FD as well
Hey chris love the car bro.. rotary engine is notorious for not starting when its been sitting for a while...
Once you get it going it may smoke and you may need to rev it a bit to stop it stalling until the idle balances out
From Virginia, we don't mess with salvage titles.. I'll subscribe too see how it goes with the Aston.
get the little light bars for the headlights like on gingiums miata
