Gabriel, in the 90's I trained with the same organization as Giorgio, I am sure you must know who Carlo Diblasi is! He was my coach, and we were part of some of the best promoters in those years, I, unfortunately, left Italy long before Giorgio became part of the team and managed by Carlo Diblasi. I am always in touch with Carlo and will be visiting Milan sometime after the Pandemic and hopefully will meet Giorgio, and hopefully have the opportunity to train with my old team and luckily with Giorgio as well! Hopefully, one day meet you too and train with you, I am turning 57 and still strike with smooth flowy high kicks and flying knees!
I have talked with Carlo many times. He is always part of the Bellator Kickboxing events in Italy.
I hope you get to train with Giorgio. That would a great experience.
You're an inspiration! I hope to be healthy and training at your age!! I hope you stay healthy and get an opportunity to see your team again
Did u ever meet him?
@@samy5025 no, unfortunately I never did. Came in the team years after I left Italy!!
@@amhels thank you! Sorry I only saw this now!!
For me the most valuable thing about Petrosyan's style is that ANYBODY can pull this off. Let me explain myself: Of course one needs a lot of years of training and competition to be at least somewhere near the level of The Doctor, but anybody can train and implement the technics and tactics to SOME degree, because they don't need some next level athleticism and superhuman reactions to pull it off. It's a thinking man's style of fighting.
Well said Kyle.
It's his brain that is on another level in the ring.
@@GabrielVargaOfficialthanks for the reply! When I used to kickbox (very casually) and I found myself cornered I liked to place my glove onto the opponent's shoulder. The idea was I could feel when he's about to swing and react faster and by slightly pushing against his shoulder it will make his punch to fall short. It was quite effective, but kinda frowned upon in my gym TBH. I am not sure where I got this idea. It wasn't from my coach or sparring partners for sure. I remember I watched some boxing breakdown where the narrator talked a lot about elite boxers physically manipulating/controlling opponents. He said it is the difference between the very good and the greates.
Big fan of you, Mr. Varga! Subscribed.
You are very smart, a great teacher and you know how to keep the audience engaged. Thanks Gabriel
Giorgio is the italian lomachenko of kickboxing. He has a very effective boxing and he's extremely precise. The Doctor is a really accurate name for him!
I would definitely agree! I been saying that for years!
He's Armenian ffs
@@thomaskendell8146 lol, no
@@deschain9663 He actually is from Armenia. He emigrated with his family to Italy when he was a child
@@peets9490 yes, I know. The fact that he grow and trained in Italy makes him italian don't you agree? At least he's half italian and half armenian
5 Things that make Doumbe so good!
Took me watching quite a few fights to begin to understand and really appreciate what Petrosyan does. So incredible fundamentally sound and like you said, a defensive genius. Awesome insight sir!
Remember training with Petrosyan and his bro back in 2009 in Thailand. I didn’t know who they were but I remember being blown away by their skill and technique
What do you think makes Giorgio so good? I couldn't list everything so I know I missed some of his best fight qualities.
I was waiting for the overview of his signature 3-2 punch combo, great video
Gosh you broke down so many nuances I've never really seen before or fundamentals being executed on their highest levels that its practice and spirit. I've known about Giorgio (and his highly acclaimed reputation) but he never really did it for me. I started Muay Thai because of Buakaw! But I have to really study Giorgio.
One thing I always see he doing is opening is stance in a angle. He usually do it to quickly goes to his oponent side and make those beatifull combinations with angles he's so famous for
His lead hand control is more then a jeb or a hook , he create so many Angeles with it by a small pouches to create angel.
His law kick to an orthodox rear leg ,
His left hook (not even a hook more of a slap) for the right straight ...
And so more many ... The best ever.
No one fight like him. There is just another great one does has his own unique style and the name is senchai (;
As a southpaw I really hope you make part 2, there's so much to learn! One thing I noticed that he does is that he doesn't always go on the outside like you should in open stance. He sometimes goes on the inside and peppers his opponent with jabs and kick the rear leg
Yes In Muay Thai he would be called a Muay mat femur (basically heavy puncher that can be evasive) but he also has a great split step for when he wants to throw power shots.
Love nothing more than to listen to someone who is an absolute expert at their chosen craft break down the little things that people like me had absolutely no clue about.
5 things that made baz joe so good!!
I was about to say the exact same thing!
This
So good to see your Channel grow! You deserve it.
These videos are awesome 👏
Gabriel, I just wanted to thank you for your videos you share with us. They are very inspiring and a lot help. Keep doing what you are doing, you are great 👍
Another great video, keep up the amazing work and you should make this into a series
Petrosyan is one of my all time favorite .... thanks for the vid
Love this breakdown. Thanks Gab.
that hook on the mid kick is an awesome detail! I'll have to look back and find it
Great stuff! love these videos
Great Content! Keep it going! 🙌🏻
Great analysis
Thank you
Great video! I’ve been wanting to see one of the doctor for a bit. I’d love to see what you think makes Naoya “The Monster” Inoue so good. Big fan of the channel, keep it up!
Great breakdown of Petrosian and the skillsets he uses. He is on another level that’s for sure. Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🙏
These videos are awesome, keep up the great work.
This was great. One of my fave fighters deciphering the "combat code"of my other favorite. Treasure this.
I love seeing the channel explode!!
Amazing video! A lot of useful secrets you showed, thank you 🙏
love this series
Could we see a part 2, 3, and 4? Please!
I agree. I am a southpaw and found this content very insightful and hope for more!
wonderful breakdown!
You and Bazooka Joe has the best kickboxing/muaythai/striking channels ever!! Im learning so much!
Thanks for sharing thé way you do...it makes more exciting the way of perceiving combat sport(thai boxing, boxe, kick boxing)..thanks a lot.
Thank you for making this video..
My pleasure!
Do TENSHIN NASUKAWA! His style is a nearly perfect balance of Western Boxing, Kickboxing, MuayThai, and Kyokushin Karate.
Notice how most of the best strikers are southpaw or people who can switch stance? Georgio, Tenshin, Adesanya, Valentina Shevchenko, Lomachenko, McGregor,
conor doesnt really switch stances tho...
@@arandompersonlol1202 read it again. I said “southpaw or people who can switch stance”
I Love Giorgio's technical precision BUT I also Truly Admire Mr Varga's technical expertise, coupled with his unparalleled variety of Weapons. Great channel.
Thanks my friend. I'm glad this series is being enjoyed.
That counter to the round-kick scoop is crazy!
crazy beautiful?
Watching and watching again. Make the following 5 please :)
Another great video champ 😊👊
Much appreciated
Really enjoyed this breakdown. Never even noticed that lil hook :)
Excellent breakdown of one of my favorite fighters.
Glad you enjoyed it.
This a genius content, thank you. Do a part 2!
I'm glad you enjoyed. I have some others to cover but I will definitely come back to Giorgio for a part 2.
Thank you
I like these analysis vids on top fighters.
Awesome
Love the videos Gabriel. Do one on Petch please he’s one of my favorites
All this things were from muay thai. Stance, long guard to knee, the way he uses the round kick and his defense too.
But, he improves his boxing skills when he started in k1 events.
Giorgio is a monster! I enjoyed to watch him fighting.
Oh my god that hooking of the foot to stop the Dutch style scoop, bro that is such an amazing pickup, great analysis mate. Hats off to you 👏
Much appreciated.
That technique is next level.
@@GabrielVargaOfficial basically use hook like in bjj 😄
Great video!
and do not skip ads!
Very appreciate my friend.
Thanks.
The 🐐🔥
Great breakdown - I always wondered why Petrosyan’s left kick never gets caught.
In Petrosyan’s fight against Kem I was blown away by how he was able to keep spinning Kem (started in the 2nd round). You see this much more in boxing than kickboxing. I realize a lot of what he does is based on him being a southpaw.
Giorgio is god. Can you also break down Rick "The Jet" Roufus?
Ha, I used to train with Rick. Crazy guy! Have some funny stories.
I train the same style as him with the pants and everything! Great suggesjon!
or Benny The Jet
@@jesseflores9087 hold on...
I'm so grateful for that video since i'm Southpaw, thx!
@Gabriel Varga great upload, the good old same side (right arm stiff/ pole arm) to using his opponents forward momentum for Petro's jab, cross, or frame into a knee... I think he did it a lot vs Chris Ngimbi. 🙏🏽🥊
Thanks. Giorgio is the best.
I need to do a follow up episode because I can list another 5 things he's great at.
Yet another in a long line of great videos! I’m thinking a part 2 with another 5 things Giorgio does great is in order. There’s another advantage to using a more upright stance: your skeleton is lined up underneath you. Your skeleton bears most of your weight instead of your hips, glutes, quads and abs which are engaged to hold you up with a wider stance. You can bounce around using a lot less energy. Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard are classic examples of using the upright stance in boxing. Very mobile, easy to change direction and very energy efficient. Downside is you have a to shift to a deeper stance to sit down on your punches.
Dude!! Great video. Plz do a series. Do a prt 2, 3, 4... 100 lol
My body is ready for part 2...
Especially if you cover his right hook to left straight combo
Thank you for this Video Gabriel, I hoped to make a video about the Mauy thai kick because is so much difficult. specially when we do the 10 kicks Pad. Thank you.
Giorgio is KING
Sweet vid; you should do one on Saenchai; dudes on a whole different level
Yes I agree with top 5 techniques in every video, but please make part 2 of what makes him so good.
Need a part 2
Love this video. Learn a lot. Please make a video on israel adesaneya
All defensive fighters are boring. Mayweather is a perfect example
In one of your previous vids you asked for a request of breakdowns. I requested a breakdown of Giorgio Petrosyan. You did a breakdown of Giorgio Petroysan. Thank you :)
Thanks Gabe ! I think Im ready to fight Giorgio now.. 😂
Can you make a video about fighting bigger and heavier opponents ? Love your channel.
You missed the part where he shifts and darts in to get that wide stance for power. Especially on his hook to cross combo you were talking about . Often add a knee or kick after. He dropped sorgraw and smokin joe in one with that specific footwork
Thing I've noticed he does also, is if opponent does land a knee he moves with the motion to take out the impact, then goes back to business to responding right away. He has an answer for everything.
I do those lead taps too, but you can also parry with it to set up a straight when they try to meet your lead taps .
I hope you will do Ramon Dekkers (RIP) and Rob Kaman, two of my top all-time favorites and who I had the privilege to train with and work with. And also Jean Yves Theriault, one of Canada's top legendary fighters!
Giorgio makes his opponent doubt/question his movement . He loves to move/shift back and let the opponent fill the space in so they have to move forward out of habit. While they do that, he throws the long knee or the roundhouse.
He is really good. You could analise his fight against Buakaw, who decided to just trade with him. That foot hook, though... It's such a prime example of technicques that arise from the rules.
Should list 8/10. 5 is kinda short. Great content man 👍
Especially for Petrosyan.
5 is just scratching the surface.
I LOOOVE watching Petrosyan fight! Thanks for this amazing vid, so many explanations and lessons here!
edit: Can you make a video on David Goggins? Is his mentality towards working out beneficial or it's for that 1% of the population? I've tried his 45 min workout on his channel and I could hardly move by the 30 minute mark and this guy was still going with excellent form and minimal rest! I also noticed the ppl that he was instructing were really struggling after 20-30 minutes... Is he on steroids or some shit? :D His heart must be the size of a lions!
Being a southpaw, having great distance control, having a very good eye, being methodical, having focus
True, this all make his 103-2-2 record
i don't know what's more impressive, your lesson or that shelf full of badass belts. Is there one you don't have in your weight category?
just go ahead and do the other 20 please... great vid
I'm glad you liked it that much.
I'll certainly do a part 2. But I'll get through some other fighters first.
Amazing video, thank you! How would you prepare to fight a Saenchai type of a fighter? Noticed he also likes to tap his opponents repeatedly to keep them sedated in between his attacks.
Oooh kick boxing fwends 😁
The Doctor's game is deeper than the Earth's mantle.
Great Video 👍👍 I'm From Malaysia 🥊🇲🇾 ONE CHAMPIONSHIP is A Phenomenal Event Here. Giorgio is A Southpaw & I usually refer to him for tips as I'm a Southpaw as Well 😅😉 Thanks #I'veSubscribed👍🥊
Thanks for joining the channel!
I may end up competing with ONE at some point. I really want to add their belt to my collection.
Giorgio is the best so good choice to look at for pointers and tips.
Pls make a video on 5 things which makes petchpanomrung kiatmookao so good.
Can you please do a video on how to beat the long gaurd
Hi Gabriel.. Love Your Videos !! What do you think of Ramon Dekker.... ?
his hook trick at the end of a roundhouse kick is actually brilliant,
can you link any video where this can be studied well ?
he likes to wide his stance when he is boxing, in that process his lead foot often lands outside of his opponents foot (only orthodox), this creates a angle automatically, which is hella cool.
petrosyan is amazing, he has a muay thai background. that's his striking base, and first martial art
Although Petrosyan is usually in a narrow stance, when he wants to throw a powershot he will split step to widen his stance very quickly. This allows him to get many of the benefits of the wide stance while still having the mobility of the narrow stance. My favorite thing about his style is his ability to manipulate the opponent's guard, especially through his "missed" shots. When he misses a shot, as long as he touches them he'll leave it extended in order to set up another attack, each blow setting up the next.
he has a muay thai background. that's his striking base, and first martial art. changing stances from narrow to wide and the arm manipulation is very important in muay thai.
Five things that make Tenshin nasukawa great?!!
YESSSSSSS
yes pls! I also want to know if he thinks who's more skilled between Tenshin and Petrosyan
maybe they're both as skilled but Petrosyan leans towards technical mastery while Tenshin leans towards creative mastery? maybe he grew up reading Baki and playing Tekken
@@Ry-bo9hi Tenshin and Georgio are both technical. The biggest differences I see at a glance are age, fight IQ, and dependency on power. Georgio and Tenshin both default to a narrow stance, as it lends itself well to defending leg kicks (fighting on a post if you will). Georgio almost never widens his stance to sit down on a shot to KO you. His accepts less power using that stance and prefer to pick you apart without abandoning as much defense. Tenshin explodes off of a narrow stance once he’s made the reads to dig into his shots. Especially his left straight while taking his head off the center line. Although it puts Tenshin more at risk his accuracy and reaction time are almost supernatural.
Tenshin’s reflexes are insane. That became extremely clear to me when he fought Kyoji Horiguchi (who can also see shit in slow motion).
@@Ry-bo9hi lol idk, Tenshin does look up to Petrosyan for sure. He talked about him on his YT channel. Tenshin is still v technical too and ridiculously fast.
My honest opinion....he's really really really REALLY good at the basics!
BTW I been thinking about getting the BOB dummy . Its quite expensive though! How good /durable is it?
Great vid ! What fight was used in the middle of the vid ?thx
Hmmm. I used Giorgio vs
Sana and Askerov in the middle. Probably one of those.
@@GabrielVargaOfficial thx
I know as a southpaw he uses that fade back and counter all the time, would doing the fade back to the right as an orthodox be just as safe fighting other orthodox fighters?
Nieky Holzken and Naoya Inoue are more fighters you could examine as well. Keep up the good work!
Great breakdown Gabriel , I’ve been craving an Israel adesanya breakdown from you, think you could make it happen :)
Already on it my friend.
Have you ever thought about doing some classic fighters like Ramon Dekkers or Ernesto Hoost? Also I have to recommend you look at Naoya Inoue. He’s a great boxer with such a good way of dismantling guards and exploiting weaknesses.
For sure. I want to cover all those guys. I was a bit list of fighters to get through.
Would that feel a bit weird if I tell you that I've learnt the 1°tip in Karate?
Great content by the way, amazing job!
So many martial arts has cross a over between techniques.
So I'm not too surprised and that's great you already know it 👍
Hey, can you do a video on defeating the "MMA" calf kick. My buddy, who is an MMA coach for UFC/Bellator fighters may have figured out a way to defeat the calf kick, but I'm curious what's out there besides the normal lift.
Can you do Saenchai? I think his sweeps are so beautiful.
Tyrone Spong please!
Please do Cedric Doumbe!
Wonderboy Thompson next pls
