Well, humans have self-awareness and intellect. Strip that away and we are just animals with instinctive desires. That's really the problem. Meanwhile, my NF functions want me to go down my own rabbit hole, stay in Lalaland and high on my own thoughts. Pure escapism. Being in my mid 30s now, I feel like getting older is more about how you reconcile those two parts of human existence without going too crazy or physically wasting away.

Over the years I’ve realized that Jim Carry’s perspectives have intersected personality types and spirituality....
I spent so much time learning personality typology (reading Jung’s work) all the way until I discovered Jim Carry’s videos - then I realized that your personality and cognitive are like your instruction manual for how to survive and how to contribute to the survival of the tribe.
Now I focus on cognitive functions in a way that questions how it relates to ego/soul.

No my depression comes from the sheer mental burnout of being in the world, sensory overload, anxiety, trying to mask my autism traits enough to interact with people, still feeling empty and isolated, being hated, bullied and teased because people fear what is different, dealing with cripplingly low self esteem, feeling anxious in social situations, wondering why people even like me or whether they like me at all, being fully lucid and cognisant of the complete disaster humanity is headed for and not being able to do much to stop it, though I do what I can. Being overwhelmed with emotion, wanting to make the feelings stop, why won’t they stop, please can my feelings go away?

I tried to make my feelings go away, it did not help, the only thing that worked was acknowledging and allowing myself to feel them...then I could process without my brain burning and melting down, and "recovery time" became pretty fast.

Understanding the connectedness of everything is so humbling and important for growth as a person. I think that's why connecting to animals and nature is a very important part of Eastern philosophy (I don't know about the west so can't comment).
Co-operation is actually beneficial for us evolutionarily and the idea that 'survival of the fittest' is fierce competition has been proven false. Humans are pack animals - we are inherently altruistic not selfish.
Increased selfish behaviour is seen in societies where competition between individuals is encouraged. This is why people in capitalist economies have been shown to have more selfish behaviour.

On a more serious note, I think there is a big shift in consciousness occurring at the moment. It’s interesting to see the idea of ego vs soul. I haven’t seen it presented exactly this way, but earlier this year I remember I was struggling with motivation and I wrote two lists. One titled “ego goals” and the other “soul goals.” Everything I worked so hard to achieve in the past 7 years or so fell into the ego goals category. And so I slowly began to let them go, which actually is a rather painful and scary process.

Hear this from a spiritual ENTJ:
Ego is not a bad selfish part of yourself. The excess of ego is a problem.
Soul is not a bad hippie part of yourself. The excess of soul is a problem.
Granted that your feelings, actions and thoughts are determined by the factors of the people and environment you interact with, you are not the feelings, actions and thoughts. They are a product. What are you is the spirit that observes it all in an accepting way.
But too much of living in the spirit makes you more inactive in the world, so you accept the suffering of a newborn child with disease and famine somewhere in Africa because you just observe it as "it is what it is".
You need ego to drive yourself towards doing something for that newborn child or others in a similar situation, as much as possible. Otherwise you're worst than the disease, because you could actually try to do something about it, as much as the external forces allows you.
I personally found a foundation for my Fi in Stoicism and Daoism.

Wow, this is really serendipitous. I was JUST talking about this today, the day after the election where almost half of our country thought it was just fine to elect a racist, narcissistic, utterly incompetent, (etc.) person to be our president, AGAIN, discussing what causes our people to be that out-ot-touch with the soul of self and others. I was telling my coworker that we need a different kind of education, we need to ensure that all of our children learn EMPATHY because that IS an evolutionary trait that when expressed is what makes life beautiful.
And you look at Americans and you see half of them simply don't have empathy for anyone who is not in their immediate circle (family, church group, etc.). It's as if they can only experience empathy for someone when the repercussions of their lack of it is shoved in their face, in person. So they literally have to WITNESS a person in their life crying in order to feel for someone else. But we need to be able to go beyond that. We need to feel empathy for those across town, in different neighborhoods and places of worship, across the world. Humans have that capacity but we've never taken it seriously. It's about soul and connection. Too many people are still focused on the physical and have not crossed over into the higher consciousness of the soul. It's getting better though. I have seen it growing over the decades and I feel the wave getting stronger. I think that's why I started crying a little watching Jim Carrey speaking about this. He's so right.

The soul part is actually also part of the programming. I think the real answer is in the balance between « ego » and « soul ». Being 100% soul is not perfect either... even Jim Carrey still does things mainly for himself and I believe we need to do that as well. To me the real way to go beyond programming is to find the right balance between both. I believe if you don’t feed your egotistical part, it will backfire at some point. We need to find the right balance between self needs and tribe needs to be useful on the long term. WDYT?

From my limited ENFP perspective, Ego is nothing more than this flesh we live in. This body has its own needs, it’s own desires, it’s own interest in survival. So selfishness of the ego is perfectly logical. There is no inherent problem with the egos: needs, desires, or survival mechanisms.
The soul on the other hand has no flesh, no material needs or desires (at least that intuitively would seem to be the case). The soul would not therefore be committed to its own identity as separate from other souls because there is nothing causing souls to ultimately be separate from one another. That is where the oneness and love that we NF hippies love to talk about begins to come into the picture. When we become aware that we are running programs everyday we begin to access an ability to transcend the matrix of the ego. But the ego is NOT inherently our enemy. It’s a part of us. Moral of the story is, the Intuitive should not demonise the sensory. But the sensory needs to learn that there is more than the physical. We all need each other. Cumbaya! 🤩
Still, it is my belief that we still CHOOSE to incarnate to this earth 🌍 and into the flesh. This choice of coming into the matrix is to give the Soul an additional layer of perspective which is to experience the limitation of the sensory, the separation of this flesh from that tree 🌲 and so on. Ahh the Rabbit Hole is now open! All aboard? 😜

"Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, "My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness." So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That's why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong." (2 Corinthians 12).
The ego is a false sense of strength...better known as Pride. You find your soul through humility and showing your "weakness." It is your soul that is connected to God. You have to go through hell (your demons) to find the door that get's you to Him. "Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you." (Matthew 7:7). The human ego is not who we really are, it is merely how the mind has been programmed through indoctrination, conditioning, trauma, upbringing, experiences, etc.

As a student of philosophy, even objectivism is kind of a myth. Real philosophy acknowledges the subjective nature of existence and is aware of the limitations of science or “objectivity” but once we say anything critical of this view people will inevitably assume you’re dumb. Meanwhile, all I do is consume all day every day to make NT connections but people will assume you’re an NF if you say anything remotely “spiritual” about life. The current resistance to subjectivity is the giant fucking clue that there’s something to the non-objective world. People really need to do more drugs at an earlier age. It’s super frustrating watching everyone shit on these people for so long and call them crazy and then come around 10 years later when it’s a decade too late. - ENTP

The book "Lord of the Flies" is about this exact aspect of human nature, where in a survival situation, humans can become barbaric. HOWEVER, there is some evidence to the contrary. Some philanthropists and others say that if that was true then human species would not have made it this far. Instead, we have evolved to have empathy which allows us to care for one another and build communities that make us stronger. Of course it works best when it's all face-to-face, when what you do impacts those around you so you are accountable (vs. a corporation that decimates communities and suffers no consequences). Don't get me started on that. But yeah, read Lord of the Flies by William Golding. It's a classic.

Like slowly matching the program to reality over several iterations, like meme evolution. I think that fits with what Jim's examination and delivery using his acting analogy... This represents great progress for Dave and Shan. It seems they are starting to step back from the matrix and question it. I'm so happy! But how does it gel with their promotion of aggressive achievement gurus like Gary Vaynerchuk and Tony Robbins? In my view, those guys are merely resuscitating the old youthful survival stuff, just with a more polished presentation. The "alphas" aren't enlightened. They are just charismatic or lucky BS artists pushing people back into competition instead of helping them to continue questioning the matrix.

That's not what "survival of the fittest" means - the word "fittest" actually refers to how an organism "fits" into its environment . Survival of the fittest doesn't look like the drive for business competition (at least, no more than any other trait we have), it looks like us only seeing a quarter of the spectrum of reality so we don't freak out and watch RUclips all day.
(Sorry if this is incoherent I'm writing fast on break from work because I'm a blasting idiot)

What everyone thinks SOTF means is actually just their perception of the social dominance hierarchy. No matter how dominant or successful you are, whole species can go extinct if they cannot adapt to the the environment.

Sorry it's off-topic but Joe Rogan's recent interview of Kanye West would be a great one to do a personality comparison on if you get a chance? How would you type them? The way Kanye expressed his ideas (he "paints in circles" and thinks of 10 things at once and then has to try to funnel all those ideas into 1 product or explanation, which I can relate to). The way his brain works I think is lead Ni if I'm not mistaken? I'm typed as INFJ and I could totally relate. Joe was helping him condense/explain his thoughts in a very caring manner. The interview made me feel like Kanye is an INFJ like me, except that I would think he's an extravert....

I was thinking the soul symbolizes the entirety of ones life?, and those good character traits are traits that describe a good pattern of behavior, and a pattern of behaviour refers to a collective of good decisions one has made within whatever timeframe. The question would now be what is a good decision?, it could be one that has good impact in the life of others, at the same time balancing the well-being of ones self. "Love your neighbor as you love yourself"

Typewise, i'd say Fi-Te dichotomy is big on the "SOUL". You need to be Fi authentic to your core which eventually what leads to what's Te right for everyone else. In the same way, that what's really Te right or works for everybody else, is also who I really Fi am.
On the other hand, Ti-Fe coin, is detached understanding of self. Ti is prone to 'objectivism' w/c considers the soul as an object of the intellect, hence the term Ego. Fe is also subject to fakery w/c echoes the Ti's cold logic on our humanity.
    That's all, thank you. Bow!

Actually some of us are born "old" and are "there" at even a young age. This is part of the evidence of the soul, being born buddhist in a non-buddhist community for example.

The solution is the composition by the analyst of the trancendent or the power of symbolism in organised religion. Boom.
Soul doesn't perceive materialism. Love might be the essence of a soul but that is in relations and consciously material.

Okay so we trash the ego a lot but without it you would just simply set there and wait to die, which is basically called depression, the only way you can live without the ego is if you build it to a strong enough place that you can transcend it, and that unfortunately takes a lot time and suffering, so much so that almost no one achieves ego trenscendance, because that's the people that are described as enlightened, those people have basically escaped from "The matrix". You realistically probably won't achieve that, so your best bet if you are suffering or want to have a fair fighting chance against the tragedy of life is to build a healthy and strong ego.

I think life should be about balancing the ego with the soul..
We find ourselves happy when we dress well, when we have nice things, when we get promoted or recognised..
But it is good to find the balance to know that that doesn`t define us..
I believe what defines us is what we do for others..
How did we help other human beings getting a better life?
I am.not doing voluntary work yet, but I wish so.much to.do it in the future.. Mean while I help my family with everything I can..
The question we have to ask is..
Am I driven by love or the ego??

Something off-topic, which was shown in this video: Ni-Se people personify - they act, as if objects are alive. Because for Ni-Se "thinking" is the same as "doing". So if an object is doing something (The sun is shining. Evolution is helping), in Ni mind, it is alive and it thinks. For Si-Ne "thinking" means "talking". So for Si people, only people can think, because only people can speak. This is my observation. Is there any Si-Ne, who personify, or Ni-Se who doesn't?

I believe there is a false assumption when it comes to us just being molecules or matter compiled. If that were the case. Why doesn't another compilation of matter not have consciousness. To assume we are just matter denies consciousness and consciousness is what we used to observe and come to a uneducated opinion that we are just matter. It's like asking your self am I rational. When your using rational to answer that question.
