I've never heard of Anatomy. Now you got me curious.
Also as an exclusively Horde/Blood Elf player, I'm more of a Silvermoon BGM enjoyer and my favorite moment remain to this day the end of the Blood Elf starting quests leading you in front of Sylvanas, to bring her back her necklace. She then sings the Lament of the Highborne with her banshees, which I admit made me a little emotional at the time.
As for one of my personal favorite theme from games, recently I've been listening back to Secret of Mana soundtrack and Fear Of The Heavens, to this day, fill me with image of adventures. Same goes for Chrono Cross' Scars of Time and Wild Arms' Into The Wilderness.

videogames have better music than the actual music industry as a whole XD. Ever played any of the persona games? I recommend Persona 4, for its characters, 3 for the story and themes, and 5 for the music!!!
I remember traveling into areas i shouldnt be as a blood elf, just to listen what kind of music the alliance races would have in their lands.. And while they had great music tht would get me in trouble for just wanting to listen to it... Silvermoon still the best... not biased at all, nuh uh! And while all silent hill games have great music... Room of Angel fucks me up XD, so spiteful while sounding so lovely.
Most messed up part is, i have been thinking of Lisa Garland so much lately, i kinda fell back into buying old consoles and owning physical copies of both the games i loved, and the games i would have loved to play and skipped... And still don't have silent hill 1, while i do have 2 and 3... The characters in the CGI cutscenes of those games are still more expressive than most in engine characters nowadays... Lisa's scene is straight up some of the best PSX cutscene, up there with games like Final Fantasy (which had the best CGI on the platform)... So stop digging into my brain, SH is scary enough as it is, to feel like my thoughts are being harvested for content!!!
    14K, woooh!!! XD

@@early-tv i really don't know how old silent hill games managed to hit us so hard... Around taht time we didnt have awesome colorful stickers that say "It's Trauma" earned on phenomal battle passes!!! We were such simple creatures, to think that "just music" would be enough to move us...
As for persona 4... It's my favourite of the persona series by far... The characters are so loveable... Liker Persona 3 has no chill, and persona 5 is just too cool... Persona 4 characters are such dorks, i legit feel i could be their friend and they really feel like family compared to any other entry..: And the music... here is the thing, in a vacuum Persona 4 music is the simplest of the 3 famous persona games, but it's the most evocative of these games, because you care so much more about Inaba and its inhabitants... Unlike other entries, takes place on the countryside, so fewer characters to interact with and know, and they just feel closer to the character and each other... Also the silent protagonist of P4, Yu... He's the funniest, cause he's got the perfect pokerface and stoic look that works both for humor and seriousness...
Sorry for the Persona rant, not what this video is about... But i super recommend it, im a huge shin megami tensei fan, and persona 4 is my second favourite of the whole series, in fact the next animation after the upcoming one is about persona 4... This time around im gonna post them faster XD.
Anyways keep up the good work!

    - the horse scene in Ghost of Tsushima
    - the backstory of Kuro in Ori
    - the end of the prologue part with roxas in kingdom hearts 2
    - leaving Earth in Mass Effect 3
…. Etc. way too many moments actually

I think the best *ambient* horror music is in Lobotomy Corporation. The game has "Trumpets", which indicates the danger level of the facility you are managing. The escalation from the groovy techno beats to sirens, and finally a state of depressed choral anxiety is terrific. Also, the sound of the employees gels with the feeling that everything has been ruined, on account of going mad and causing more chaos. LobCorp has termination of employees SOP to mitigate disaster, and I don't mean a pink slip.
Considering how some days in the game can take a couple hours to resolve, the soundtrack is very good at not becoming boring, while maintaining a level of fear.

Oh this was definitely a great topic choice. I can't really comment on most of the games mentioned here since I haven't played them but I so agree with Silent Hill's music. Silent Hill 1's intro still gives me chills every time I hear it. It's mysterious and somber but yet comforting all at the same time. And Lisa's theme, that one gets me every time as well. The scene was beautifully executed and it's not surprising why it's a favorite for many of us.
If I had to share a game's music that gave me the feels, as cheesy as it's gonna sound, I'd go with Sonic Adventure 2's final scene music when the heroes reflect on Shadow's death. The music pulls at my heart every time I see it, it was a beautifully done scene with a perfect song for it. Another one that comes to mind is the theme that plays in Alice Madness Returns in the final scene of the game. After all that Alice goes through in the game with a somber but somewhat uplifting ending, the song playing totally makes me feel a rush of emotion lol
And last but not least, the song "Healing Winds" from the Soul Calibur series, specifically the Soul Calibur 3 version. Beautiful song that gives me all kinds of feelings when I listen to it haha.

I LOVE talking about video game music. There are a few cases that I really really like.
    1) Vector to the heavens from Kingdom hearts. This songtakes place during a very important moment in the story where Roxas has to fight and defeat one of the few and only friends he ever knew. Its a tragic fight especially because when the friend is defeated due to the nature of their existence everyone ends up forgetting about them when they die.
    2) DragonSong final fantasy 14: This song is the main theme of the Endwalker expansion for ff14 and man it is so emotional with the beautiful singing voice. It also ties in to the story of the expansion with the backstory of the dragon war and the way it connects to the story.
    3) I believe from Persona 5: This isnt a sad song but it is hype as fuck. It plays during the final boss of persona 5 royal and feels just like a grab big celebration for the game and the characters as they overcome their last trial (If you ignore the spin offs)

I would like to add pretty much all of the music from empire of the undergowth in here personally, especially the expirment theme, all of these themes are dynamic, it is pretty relaxing when you are doing nothing but digging holes and what not gathering food, but the moment beetles or spiders or even the very hand that feeds you from the crazy scientist arrives, the themes go bunkers and when your ant queen gets attacked the violins are literly screaming and dying in the songs that play troughout the levels.
Empires of the undergrowth is by no means a walk in the park but it aint too difficult either (unless you want it to be) as overpreparing can and will get you trough every expiriment, all you gotta remember is if you think you are overprepared you can be sometimes still be underprepared, because that crazy scientist guy just doesn't play fair and activly cheats.

In Hades when you reunite Orpheus and Eurydice you get to hear them sing a duet of Good Riddance. Up until then you could hear them singing it by themselves so when the duet it hits the feels hard. I think Supergiants Games does a great job with music moments in their games.
Also Cyberpunk has great moments too. Especially if you have seen Edgerunners.

Yamaoka's entire score in Silent Hill is legendary, but Lisa's transformation is a tour-de-force of music and animation.
Notice how Lisa's eye winces as that trail of blood runs over it.There are many modern games that don't have that attention to detail.
I may be biased; having played the game on release when I was young, but it's the best scene in video game horror.

One game that I think deserves special recognition for its soundtrack is Xenoblade Chronicles 3. The Xenoblade titles have always had fantastic music, but 3 really sets a new standard not just for the franchise, but for games as a whole, and a large part of that has to do with how intimately woven into the narrative and worldbuilding the music is.

Also the WoW theme that plays is a mix of A world Divided (Anduin's Theme) and Canticles of Sacrifice for those of you who are wondering and want to look up the full song(s). They are indeed as Early says, some of the most beautiful pieces of music in WoW history. I have had them both in my playlists for years.

I remember how it felt my first playthrough of Final Fantasy 10, when the storyline catches up to the campfire animation from the game's startup. After playing the game to that point, you finally had the full context for that scene and exactly why everyone was so melancholy. Then, the rest break is over, it's time to go forward and do the big important thing.
Then the track "A Fleeting Dream" starts, which is just a wrenchingly sad reprise of a melody you've heard throughout the whole game in much happier situations. And I just sat there with the controller in my hands, not moving, because I didn't want to go forward. I just wanted to stay and listen to the song, because if I went on and beat the game, there was no way the ending wasn't going to be sad.

Clash: Artifacts of Chaos was very strong on the front of music. From the tutorial mindscape alone, to Pseudo's introduction, to the music that plays when encountering the Brother and the Director in the Zonectik Mountains, to Pseudo's Return which plays when facing Claw for the second time and the Outcast at the Lonely Shore.
Pseudo's Return takes elements from Pseudo's Theme, like the chanting, tribal music and electric guitar, and kicks them up a notch. There is more anger, and it is much more directed and focused, than Pseudo's initial theme was.
    (Warning, lots of spoilers ahead).
In the middle of a game there's a segment where Pseudo's companion falls ill, disturbed and in pain from a horrible sound we cannot hear. Pseudo believes he knows where the sound is coming from, but cannot take the boy with him-- so he has to leave him alone and unprotected in the town.
The rest of the game world goes white, except for the path to the source of the sound. Nothing else matters but the chance to ease the boy's torment, while being powerless for the duration of the journey.
Thus, you travel alone, back to the mountains in hopes to still be in time, as Pseudo himself laments that the boy could already be dead for all he knows.
But there is a great obstacle in the way. Four or five of the toughest mercenaries --a Platybelodon man, an obese turkey man with teeth, an orange rhinoceros man and a goose woman with boomerangs-- come at you all at once from an ambush.
And then a song starts playing of immediate intensity, scale and grandeur. The land of Zenozoik is hardly a land of mythical creatures that command respect: for all intents and purposes, you're just a middle-aged ugly hermit fighting off some ugly thugs. But for Pseudo himself, defeating these goons is one of the most intense moments of his life, where the life of one who gives his own life purpose is on the line.
Fittingly, the track is called "Unstoppable".
Worth mentioning as well is that after this section and breaking the source of the sound that torments the boy, Pseudo comes across a blue-skinned creature with no mouth and yet a deep, throaty and raspy voice, a great golden crown that seems to grow directly from its head, and clothing that can only be described as "regal".
During this fight, the music that plays sounds, itself, quite regal. Duty-bound. Deep chanting and drums. Not malicious or even as grand as Unstoppable, but nonetheless incredibly strict.
This creature is encountered again in the very end of the game.
A situation arises not unlike the mid-game one where you have to leave the boy alone. You go from the beginning of the game all the way to the highest peak, back in the Zonectic Mountains, where a flying pyramid shape blots out the night sky-- you can see your goal all the way. And yet again, nothing else matters.
During this journey, a track called To the End plays. But instead of anger, it feels like a dance. A grand ritualistic celebration of dance and song, yet drenched in desperation and tears. One can imagine great groups of the most horrible monsters dancing in choreographed in elegant ways: a juxtaposition of beauty and duty against Pseudo's powerlessness and love, racing to once again retrieve the creature who made his life worth living.
When finally arriving at the top, where the pyramid is set to pick up the mouthless king and the boy, Pseudo confronts the creature. And the mouthless king's logic has a terrifying accuracy and tells of a grander plan, but not without sympathy for Pseudo's plight.
"We cannot act only for ourselves, like the Corwid of the Free." he states, as he refers to a group of people who willingly abandon sanity to pursue one singular absurd goal in life, and live as maniacs in the woods with no sense of self-preservation.
Pseudo simply states he cares not for the "grand plan" and simply wants back his boy. Thus he throws the first punch, which the mouthless king catches. And the track called "Battle of Fates" starts playing.
The track is somewhat akin to Pseudo Returns, in that it builds upon the previous battle theme with the mouthless king. But it is grander, more merciless and dour, and now from the very start it incorporates horns: an instrument symbolizing duty, before the rumbling chanting rolls in like an avalanche, as if a vanguard of the immovability of the Grand Plan that the mouthless king serves. The choir tells, in emotions rather than words, of how much there is beyond what we can control, beyond our own lives and safety, entwining reverence and fear alike.
But there is still softness: Once the chanting stops, all focus goes to the frail, fragile and soulful singing of the Boy, present since The Boy Calls: The very first song of the game that played in the tutorial in Pseudo's dreams.
The duty gives way to let the voice of the taken child be heard.
During the fight, the mouthless king has linked Pseudo and himself together: every strike against the king is a strike against Pseudo, and every round the king commands Pseudo to stop. Not out of indignance, but out of pity, for there is sadness in his voice, upon seeing this desperate man destroy himself for reasons that go beyond logic alone.
After two rounds, the duty is cast aside. A third and final round ensues and Pseudo's Wrath begins playing. The most angry, focused, aggressive yet beautiful theme connected to Pseudo: fast-paced, bombastic, male and female voices singing, a dance of anger and desperation whirling around each other with the faintest hint of resignation.
Yet this acceptence is nonetheless overwhelmed by this whirlpool of emotions, as the pained hermit continues a battle that he, in neither mind nor body, cannot win.
I do not know if you know of Clash: AoC, and this description has been full of spoilers.
Nonetheless, i hope you found it interesting and that it has touched your own emotions. It's a beautiful game full of color, monsters, fighting and it's all as genuine as can be.
If you took the time to read through this all, thank you for doing so, and I wish you a good rest of your day.

I hope you'll find the land of Zenozoik interesting as you look up more about it. There's so much to talk about when it comes to games and music. Music connects.
The game No Straight Roads can attest to that. It's all about music, why people make music, music as an industry and the effect that has on people.

The SH1 scene with Lisa makes me so mad. You just don't have any option to NOT treat her like an absolute idiot. With the trademark Japanese emotionally unavailable protagonist gaslighting everyone experiencing trauma, drives me up the wall.

My most favourite was the bg music on where you are having a some talk with father you saved in the woods. That music really clears my mind and calms me down like when you are a kid, innocent and unknowing of the problems in the world. Now, me, a father, still listen to it whenever i reach to the point of breaking down and even just relaxing by myself. Anyway, I really feel you on the Outer Wilds front. I was weeping at the end of that game. That said, I feel I should give a special shout out to the DLC, Echoes of the Eye.
