Totally agree. It's better, but still far from perfect. As someone who primarily plays PVE, I really disliked the horde mechanic where the game would randomly throw 10-20 puppets at you whenever you fired a silenced gun or, heaven forbid, sprinted through the middle of a POI. It basically spawned dozens of puppets out of thin air, often right in front of you. It feels better now, but still, it's not as good as it used to be back in the day

this could be a top 10 single player PVE game if they would just commit to it. Clearly they try to please everyone and tow the line. in the end it will kill this game

As a solo PVE player- The random Horde basically means death unless you’ve got a decent weapon. It’s BS

First, let's look at the definition of “horde”:
>A horde, according to the ten-volume Duden dictionary, is a “(with certain intentions) disorganized (wild) crowd, a group of which one has to defend oneself (in a certain way)”<
And here lies the first problem, in Scum there are no hordes, but only spawning puppets all around you, some even from the bush behind you through which you yourself ran 2 seconds before.
At the beginning of Scum there were significantly more puppets in the villages and on the outskirts. With a sniper or ranged gals you could spot them at more than 400 meters. Today there's at most one roaming around, the rest are “sleeping” in houses or bushes.
That's a far cry from what I understand by a “zombie survival game”. Here the zombies / puppets should run around in varying numbers depending on the size of a settlement or facility. But definitely significantly more than at present.
For example, in the past there were always at least 7 puppets in or in the immediate vicinity of a gas station. Today you can drive there, refuel and drive away without encountering a puppet. But if you wait a few minutes, a few will shuffle up to you. And I've already doubled the number of random encounters!
As a solo player, I run through an empty map 99% of the time. Only the bunkers are still interesting, but they're not really worth it, because the gear you find there is only needed for the bunkers, but not on the rest of the map, where a bow, a sword and possibly a pistol are usually enough
Oh yes, and before I forget, I have a good 1,200 hours of gameplay and well over 800 of them just to test whether it's really worth playing seriously... Spoiler, no, it's not worth it in any way due to the lack of puppets.
For me it would be nice if the mechs, suicide dolls and blade wielders disappeared in the bunkers, but there would be a lot more “normal” puppets running around. Nobody needs a largely empty map with occasional buck-heavy enemies (at the beginning)!
Oh yes, and there was also the issue of hunting.... somehow falls into the topic, because the animals were “rationalized away” for the same reasons as the Puppets. It puts a strain on the servers.... even though YOU pay for the servers every damn month.... and don't even get a decent service for it. The hunting minigame is only there to relieve the server load, animals used to run around freely on the map and the high seats still made real sense. Today it's as pointless as a 50 cal sniper in the game!
*Let's come to the end and the question “Will anything ever change* ?”
No, in my opinion it won't, because the system of Scum and other similar games is to keep you in a beta forever (this saves bug fixing and you can patch things in and out as you want and also wipe everything without expecting Shitsorm) and rip you off with expensive rental servers. If the number of players collapses, then something will be added with great fanfare that was taken away a year before, see e.g. vehicles (and yes, there are still some missing, tracktor and inflatable boat for example or the enduro with pannier).
Just had 3 puppets spawn on top of me inside a military barracks on the airfield, just logged out! Miss the server man!
Ya. The puppets on our server were deadly but they wouldn't catch you out in immersion breaking ways
the issue for me isn't only "popping in", it's the fact that the town looks completely dead... unless you make a first move. And you'll still not be able to see them. Because they spawn in bushes and behind walls... I wanna see them like in DayZ, stumbling around in the streets, open fields, everywhere. Unaware of my presence, chasing animals, etc.

12:30 in now. Its much better but still crap. You cannot clear an area, its stupid! Some will say it doesnt matter, and they may be right for a town, but a bunker.. no no. Once you clear a bunker that should be it!

Ya. The PD is good, which uses a different spawn than the surrounding town but the rest of town is still a bit too spawn happy and as I said the more you up the puppet spawns the worse it gets. I will have to do a bunker test as well
IRL when you’re clearing an area of critters, they don’t just disappear at point x because you killed one. They keep coming back until you thin enough to make a difference. The system is far from perfect true, but it is heading in the right direction.

They need to code in a function where puppets don’t respawn anywhere near a certain radius of where you just recently killed one of them. If anything they should only spawn (including hordes) in the direction you’re facing when entering a town, behind you nothing should spawn where it’s been cleared, so even if you get hit by a horde you always have somewhere to run off to knowing there was an area you cleared that is safe.
This could easily be done. Its a design choice at this point
The thing is, that function has apparently been there from one of the first updates to this spawn system. Obviously it doesn't actually work, which is the common factor with these devs, they can't produce properly functioning code. And don't get me started on the game design...

It is a step in right direction for the devs, but still needs allot of work before they hit 1.0. Thanks for this very interesting and cool update and also of course your honest review on how well the game has gotten since it went all south a year ago with the puppets. I can watch any RUclipsr who plays this game with their insight into this game, but ultimately I would rather watch you because I would like to get this game but only if you put your seal of approval on this game. Thanks buddy. Lets all hope that the devs sees this video and do a bit more to make the puppet spawn like before. Love the sleeping puppets as well.
Its close!. The funny part is that the more they "change" the closer it gets to how it used to be. They should just pull the bandage off, admit they were wrong and put the old system back in place. Thanks for watching!

I will never shill for a game or dev team. Look at my channel, its almost exclusively SCUM I played it and made videos on it because I loved the game, with these changes I have lost the enjoyment, hence why no big series playthroughs lately.
new Development update from today states "we need more concrete evidence" like as if this video (and all other videos that come up when i search "broken puppet spawn scum" also) wasnt enough. When I go near a bunker I get a daisy-chain effect where I kill a puppet, then another spawns in a bush near me, I unalive them, then another in a bush, and this goes on until I get away from that bunker's fenceline.
Is this new behavior?

I was able to tweak the settings to get it close to pre-horde update. Being able to do that has brought me back to the game. I’m still trying to figure out what more of the settings do, but it will be a matter of time. Of course it can be better, but as long as the devs gives us the ability to tweak settings, we all can play the game the way we want to.
I feel like hordes trigger spawning in puppets as well. Was standing on a balcony the other night and offed puppets with an unsilenced rifle. They just kept coming and coming and coming. It was endless.

Aw man i love this game i stopped playing 2 years ago for "changing" games reason but i wished they just fix this mess or they should just let us adjust the spawn and stuff like that by ourselves per server
You do have some limited control over it, but it never seems to work.
I had a setting: number of zombies x600% set up. But due to some game bug, in the bunker they were respawning every few minutes. Often i used more ammo to kill them, than I found inside a bunker.

Once a puppet spawned 2m next to my left. It was in a bunker. Very annoying.
I've been asked to test bunkers and see if they have changed as well....I kinda want to just put SCUM on the shelf for a while and do Stalker for a bit 🤔

Def check it. They are always working on it.
Theres so many issues in the game. From the hordes, desync, spawn mechanics, sound mechanics, all vehicle glitches, hunting system, the new stamina system, the bows were nerfed and they didnt even mention it, falling through the map, you cant even ride in the same car with your friends bc the vehicle will disappear. I love this game but cmon some of these issues have been around since .05, yet they release paid dlc instead of really fixing the problems. They also flame and ban people bc they post their opinion on reddit or on forums. But they need to seriously rethink theyre approach. Thanks for the video.

Yes Exactly Popcorn! I personaly hate devs behavior about players. They cheating us with those spawns and hunting and bunkers, It feels so fake and unreal.
They changed a couple of settings as they did many times before and call it a gamechanger update ? Scum team just in their regular manner. Do nothing. While all prime bugs and problems is still there, like
- rediculous gaps in square and triangular roofs (their coders do not cares about maths)
- stupid one by one pulling out bolts, nails and paper clips
- stupid mob spawns just from out of nowhere with no reason or logic
- always bugged AI lets mobs to just walk through hte walls in idle mode
- dead boring locations with nothing to do like nuclear powerplant
- idiotic 'hunting' spawning sound puzzle which is not real hunting because there is no animals before you spawn them with it
- stupid inreasonable hard bunkers with the same spawning system of thousands of mobs right on your shoulder
- weakhead economics with fairytale mercants in the middle of massacre. this killed natural economics existed before when players collected and repaired weapons and stuff
- worst raid and lockpiking system in entire game industry which is good only for cheaters
- and ALL of those and much more problems are 5-7 years OLD and dev just dont give a f. instead of fixing it they just adding some cosmetics and making weekly videos of themselves chilling in their office and doing nothing.
I'm not good at PVP but I'd consider myself reasonably ok at stealth and avoidance, which doesn't even matter if I'm a puppet spawn beacon as soon as I get to a POI. It was good when there was always puppets everywhere and you'd only give yourself away when you aggroed or killed them.

just after the update i joined a server and i opened a police station door suddenly one screams and 2 police puppets randomly spawn in front and normal ones rush from outside... absolute shitfest
Sometimes latency or lag will cause them to spawn late and all at once in front of you.
disable the random spawning hoardes and have Tec-1 airdrop them in if you don't engage in combat enough. it's a TV show, so it makes sense. It could be cool to have a siren go off a few minutes before they're deployed.
The horde system has imho been a huge disappointment for a lot of people. They just don't seem to be able to get this feeling right even after a year.
It doesnt fit in an open world survival sandbox like SCUM in my opinion.
It's far better but they really need to work on pathfinding and I certainly hope that they add the enemy NPCs in the near future, it absolutely sucks when you play single player and puppets are the only problem that you generally find while moving through the game world.
I was waiting for this video, so still no re-install for me then. Yes, it seems better in towns but from what I've seen and heard so far HTZs like bunkers are still nightmare-ish. Oh well, thanks.

Dead zombies also gave sign of some player being around.
Been an admin on various servers since they were introduced, still doing it now on a PvE server that generally keeps a steady 30 player pop and 50 after major updates. Unfortunately this is now reducing drastically, and players are fed up with this puppet spawning and the constant restrictions being put on base building, not to mention the bugs etc, the guy that owns the server has openly admitted he’s only kept it open as we have a great community and like everyone else still clinging on, he had a lot of passion for this game. Why they have stopped building floors in half walls is beyond stupidity. What I find strange is how they make such a big deal of content they add that other games have been doing for years, as in the head torch lol. It’s an absolute travesty what’s happened to this game and I can honestly say the devs have to be the most incompetent morons to ever appear on the gaming scene. The one thing everyone has been waiting for is mod support but with the amount of control they continue to enforce I highly doubt this will ever happen, again how can they be so stupid when DayZ is still going strong because of the mods. Maybe this is just me but with how the hunting, cooking etc has been made into controlled mini games I believe that the game is being watered down for the console release. I may be wrong but I’m struggling to find an answer as to why they have destroyed such a good game.
I not only quit playing SCUM about a year ago, I uninstalled this massive game. I loved it from the beginning when I first spawned in and killed a boar with a spear. I miss the comfort of knowing I cleared and area at least while I was still looting it. Too much investment in time and equipment only to lose all to a horde popping in out of nowhere. Stealth seemed to no longer be a good investment or viable strategy.
I'm 5:30 in so far, I'm going to assume from what ive seen so far its still fucked as in ypu can clear a spot from east to west, and the travel back through the place you just looted, annnnnd its full of new puppets... yaaawwn
Its a bit different this time. They are actually getting somewhere, I think. I like to play on hardcore servers though so it has to be 100% fixed before it will be enjoyable again.
is it better? sure, but you can only polish a turd so much. The turd being the spawn system when the old one was so much better. If they could have the old spawn system with some of the horde elements, it would be perfect. Gone are the days you could agro a whole town or just sneak past them.

DayZ is better i think. i have 350 hrs in SCUm and 100 in DayZ .. i like DayZ much better.
I have so many hours in DayZ, I put thousands of hours in back in the day on xbox. DayZ is very good on pc with all the mod options.
Out of the Loop on the puppets. What happened to them on .95 update? Havent played the game in a few years. Giong to try this game again after this new update.
They changed them from a more traditional long range global spawn to a much closer system that spawns them around you as you walk
Devs still not fully listening. How hard is it to populate an area with 15 to 20 puppets. Let players kill them and lock the area for 10-15 minutes from spawns. For sake of keeping pressure on, during the 10-15 minutes, puppets should spawn outside the city range and be programmed to walk into the city. That is how immersion is done. If puppets came from outside the city, it would feel realistic as they weren't just spawning in the area I just cleared. Nice seeing the sleepers back. That was one thing I always wondered why they removed. Had a couple heart stopping moments due to them.
That's a perfect way of doing it. And you only need a couple dozen to make a town challenging and fun to clear. Which is why I don't buy the performance excuse. Surely they could salvage performance elsewhere...

In Samobor city, at the northeast gun shop, the puppet always spawn in the tree in front of the shop door. I walk slowly and then BAM! Spawn in the tree.

spawning in an area you cleared shouldn't happen but I'm ok with new puppets wandering in from the surrounding area as they might.
Puppets system is crap now. I was walking so many times and they spawn right in front of me. I was afk for 10 seconds knowing no one is around me, came back and puppets almost killed me

I literally haven't played since 9.5 due to the puppets. It was so bad that long range rifles and scopes were essentially worthless, as nothing would spawn at distance for you to shoot. That combined with puppets immediately spawning and filling areas you just cleared made looting towns annoying and unenjoyable. By your test, it seems things are better but still NOT where I would like them. I think they need to spawn at much further distances so they are visible for longer range shots. They should have a cool down time before being able to respawn. Once cleared they should stay cleared for a period of time. Hoards shouldn't be able to spawn in close to the character, mysteriously out of the ether, as it breaks the immersion.

I check back on this game about everything 6 months and I see literally zero improvement in the areas to make the game have any true single player pve content. They obviously are trying to go towards pvp and be a rust or dayz kinda game.
Zagorge my favorite town and the house across the road from the 7-11 was always my pick for a base. Have not played for over two years can you still craft the explosive bolts for the auto fire crossbow? I liked that weapon could never come up with enough plastic explosive though. Still too puppety for me.
The explosive bolt is still in the game...I think they removed the auto crossbow...

Thank you at least some youtubers like you are not shills and actually are critical of lame zombie spawn system. I personally like hordes and zombies vaulting doors and windows but they should have been organic than forced spawns.
I think some people built their RUclips and Twitch channels exclusively on SCUM so they are afraid to lose the gravy train. I could care less, this channel makes less than 20$ a month, I'll always call things as I see them...and I'll always try to show receipts for my opinions

I'm not impressed by people who shill for dev attention. I find it dishonest, and there are some that are so obvious that it's really cringe and shows in their content. I've started moving the channel away from SCUM because I no longer enjoy it due to the change in direction. I've been personally attacked over these videos, and I've seen channel engagement decline steeply. But I'll keep doing my thing and posting content I enjoy, and eventually, the channel will find its stride again.
@reconc4t I highly respect your principles on this, subscribing! I did a lot of Scum content myself, but I also found the direction and state of it to be off-putting. Hopefully they can find their way or a better competitor comes along
puppets are definitely not fixed, but i was thinking, the reason this spawn system shitshow happened in the first place was because of performance right? cause having hundreds of puppets already spawned in ticked the server too much. So i thought of this, what if the spawn system worked ONLY on the interiors of buildings, and the exterior had the old puppets? That way they could still save performance and have puppets roaming around like the good old days
I think all they would need to do is spawn them in at a more reasonable distance in a radius around towns. DayZ does this at 300meters and it works perfectly, hence why they never changed it. If they do that and stop streaming in an endless supply of puppets as you move around the town then this whole problem would disappear.

I agree, before they changed spawning it was a truly immersive world where things spawned in the world and had nothing to do with player positions just like an MMORPG. Makes the world feel alive and real. Worst decision gamepires ever made was this new spawn system.
Yes. They went full 180 with it. Puppets across the whole map to no puppets until they spawn right next to you. Truly bizarre decision.
NO they are not fixed. Is it better - yes SLIGHTLY. I'm hoping they can get it right by 1.0 if not this game is DOA. Also where are the sleeping puppets - hours of play and haven't see one???? Was having a blast before .95 since I haven't played much at all just NOT FUN especially for us PVE/solo players.

it does feel better, like you can kinda clear a police station and loot it. return and ofc they re back but why would you return as there would be no loot, so playing naturally, it mostly feels ok imo, I havent been to bunkers etc yet tho. The way you test, it is fine, any that spawn are in different locations than buildings you cleared, and they could have wondered there in the time it took you to get to edge of town. Its also not how people play and loot generally, because we dont have huge becons to speedrun and clear the puppets before beginning to loot.
It's mostly a problem with towns. As you move street to street, puppets are respawning on streets you just walked down. As you work your way in a grid, you are having to be careful to not agro puppets in areas you have already cleared. It's an immersion problem mostly.

Came back to try the update out and I love stealth play. I move into a town, clear out puppets, see a player and put a couple arrows into them, rotate to a PD and clear it out so i can look from the roof. I did a quick loot path less than 3 minutes and when i go back to PD to check again zombies were spawned already and they agro. The scream was all it took for the dude i fought to pinpoint me with his buddy and get me. Hell yea immersive asf.

It becomes more apparent on Hardcore servers where puppet spawns are increased as well.
I gave up this game because of the puppet spawn system. The immersion was horrible. I was in a military area and puppets were just coming out of the ground in my face. I hope they just fix the spawns as they were at the beggining...

Imagine taking a firearm that is infamously inaccurate, wildly unreliable and a complete waste of ammo and making it good for a video game. Which is the complete opposite of what they do for the majority of firearms in video games. Hahaaa

The Puppets are still dreadful in SCUM and the silence from the Devs is deafening. They aren’t being honest about the fact that they can’t fix them.
Horde system is terrible for new solo players, I got looted up and in fact was in that same exact Town where I got rushed by a 12 strong horde from nowhere, then died. They are still glitchy with awful hit boxes, they teleport towards you and don’t get me started on the fact that they allow them to jump through windows and open doors 🙄
They have ruined this game for me and aren’t doing enough about them 🤬😤
they arent fixed in my opinion. they still warp when they get up or while they swing. and also you can swing a melee weapon right through them and get no hitbox. two of my most nitpicky problems with them.
Puppet hit boxes have always been very very odd.

Not sure if its because of the server im on but it has invincible puppets, 40 arrows and a 3 katana stikes and its still standing

I wish in PVE that puppets would attack my base. Seems pointless to even put up defenses in bases in solo game.
There is code in the game that keeps them from spawning in a radius around your base. Could easily be modded out.
You kill then loot and get out... that's it... you won't go back to those places that you already had looted...

Friends, I have a question, I get drops in the game with 3070 TI, I don't have a problem in any game, just this game , always in crowded and big places, is it the same for you, or do I have a problem?

@reconc4t Thanks. I've played off and on since it first came out years ago. I've just not played for a while. If you have a moment, would you know if there is a setting do strengthen bases so they're harder to raid? Or increase base strength, or decrease explosive damage? I'll ultimately start a server where it's really hard to raid.
As far as im aware there is no way to increase the health pool of individual building pieces. I could be wrong but i dont think so. When i had my server i dont recall ever seeing that possibility. Best thing to do is make raiding tools really rare.
Sad they lost their vision of this game way too early in developement. They let the vocal minority lead them in the completely wrong direction. I have no doubt they will release this game without most of the features they claimed they would be implementing in the begining. But we all know having intelligence based on the size of the character's genitals was far more important than basic features they claimed would be implemented.

Dude... this game is dead since 0.7v. I use to support this game too, but i let it go for more than a year now. I check on it from time to time now, some of the devs are ok, but the head of Gamepires studio went to a very wrong rute with this game and kill it.
Some still don't understand that this is not a self-service buffet where you can pick anything you like, but a compromise. The game has do keep being economical with resources. I prefer this over the server performance mess we had among 0.5v - 0.7v... To me, the current state is a big improvement. When they introduced the encounter system, that was a mess though.

Animals = Gone. , Particles and Birds = Gone, Render Distance= made awful and things popping up infront of you... what more you need to take out for the sake of performance ? the core game (Puppet system) ??? 1 step forward 3 steps back is what this game is doing
Why can't they put a setting on spawn disctance??? Just put on a warning, performance loss if you raise it. Then small PVE servers can have fun too. Sometimes I wonder if the devs are plain and simple stupid...
They say it's a general performance choice. But I suspect they are worried about console performance as well, but it seems odd as its always run very well all things considered. It's an extremely strange to hill to die on though.

I enjoyed this game until I logged into Single Player one day to find my house gone, my character naked, and all my hard-obtained items gone. Uninstalled and never went back.

@@reconc4t early access shouldnt take nearly 7 years. nor should they add in high heeld shoes and boats that sink when the main enemy in the game has never worked. The devs are incompetant.

This game is dead until modders are able to save it.
I have very little hope of modding support ever coming to SCUM given Jagexs stance on modding, they have even gone as far as to threaten legal action against modders. its up to the devs to fix this one sadly.
@@reconc4t Thing is Jagex isn't developing Scum, Gampires is. Jagex's stance and history with modders specifically with Runescape is long and complicated, but also Runescape is a very different game compared to Scum, just the fact that there is a single player is huge. My understanding was that Gamepires planned to open the game up to mods and the steam workshop once they hit 1.0, I heard that sometime around the "Going Nuclear" update awhile back but I haven't heard anything one way or another since then. But yea Jagex is insane if they actually block or veto mod support for Scum, all they have to do is look at Scum's biggest competitor in DayZ to realize how important modding is to the zombie/survival/sandbox genre.
@LagunaFox I have zero faith in mod support for this game. Yes, jagex isn't the developer, but they own the ip and will absolutely fight modding it. This is based on their track record and nothing more. I would love to see Modding, and i hope it happens, but I'm not going to get my hopes up. That way, if we get modding, it will be a nice surprise, but if we dont....well, saw that coming.
funny how everyones a critic but noone who actually streams/plays games know anything about how coding works and so all they want is what they want, they don't view things how the devs say they want things, and they don't understand a damn thing about coding and how progressive things are in gaming the last 10 yrs.

Puppets respawn in PD's and bunkers, should take longer time. Ooooh and devs did just that. It seems to me you people will make shit up just to have something to complain about. You sounded like this game is made just for you and even there is improvement it's not as you want it to be. Well we all have things we would change. For example I would change raid. Base can be raided only if player (or 1 squad member) is online. But some players would complain about it. You can't please everyone.
@safetsabani7919 there are thousands of people who feel the same way I do. I have posted multiple videos about the puppet issues, and it's no surprise they are my most popular videos on the channel. The majority of players don't like the direction of the puppets. After over 100 very positive and fun videos about SCUM on this channel, for you to come in here and say I'm being needlessly critical and selfish is pretty ignorant. Read these people's comments, read the steam reviews, and listen to other people's opinions besides just the rank and file shills. Just because you think it's great does not invalidate the experience of everyone else.

This update is great cuz there are no major glitches. You say your videos are more popular when they are critical. That is my point. Those videos are popular cuz majority of players love to complain. You told me to read comments. You read them. You will see people are today complaining about issues from couple of months ago. You will see ppl complain about the game and they stopped playing 2 years ago. I did read comments. I also saw your comment where you are saying that you can tweak the settings but it don't work. It works but maybe you don't know how to make it work. I also did read steam reviews. Some were critical and some positive. Some critical were valid some weren't. Some positive were valid some weren't. And then I saw bunch of haters who write dumb carp and not just about DCUM. They write same reviews for other games too. You see ppl like that hate themselves until noon. And after noon they hate entire world. That's why your critical videos are most viewed. And I think that you made this video for the views. If I can’t see the puppets through my binoculars before I go into town the game is shit. Can you imagine if the players were invisible on a pvp server before you went into town. This game was marketed as a pvp and single player experience. The single player sucks after all these years and the puppet system makes it worse. They’ll never get another dollar out of me if they don’t fix it.
