  • This episode was ALL over the place. We loot the big city in the south to start. After that we go looking for a vehicle at the #windmills and then we find a #paddleboard at a #lighthouse and attempt to bring it home!

    I agree 100%. I love this game so much, and the puppets are definitely needed, but the respawn rate and random showing up ruins, any and all, kinds of "strategy" or patience you wish to employ. So much of of your time goes into gathering, hunting, sneaking, etc, just to be wiped out by a crappy mechanic. The puppets should be at their locations before you get there. Once you get there, clear them out, they should not appear again for at least 30 min. Trying to gather at a base with mechs around? Forget about it! You sneak and hide from the damn mechs, loot and kill puppets as you go, only to have those damn puppets respawn right behind you as you're hiding from a mech. "Aaaaaaaargh!"

      yeah, spawning dropships and mechs at a base just kills the foundation of gameplay.
      Theres to many server owners out there, that have no clue what their doing or just have no real master plan on what they want it to be.
      And the lack of browser-filters and server-info ingame, doesnt help
      At this stage (patch 0.95) i expected it ^ to be added.
      We even reported a bug where bears and wolves have zero sound.
      Neither if idling, warning or fighting.
      We just got a hotfix, guess what

    I put in 1000hrs in this game 6 years ago. You guys have no idea how much the game has improved. I love it.

      Been playing since 2019. It's improved in a lot of ways. But to say I have no idea what I'm talking about is silly. The puppets are ridiculous.

      no front but 1k hours in 6 years isn't much.. and the game sucks since jagex took it over.. it's fine if you enjoy it, but clearly you are the one with absolutely no idea..

    As far as the puppets spawn problem you had - it's not really a game problem as much as it's server problem. I played on servers that multiplied puppets and you are right about spawning very close. On vanilla settings that don't really happen. It happens maybe (and I'm very generous about this ) every 40 - 45 minutes. Answer for that is internet and servers. In single player that don't happen. It's smoother as long as it's vanilla settings. If you multiply puppets in single player same stuff will happen. What I'm saying is more puppets - closer they spawn.

      I've spoken to tomislav about this issue. Unfortunately, it's back burnered until more sweeping optimizations are implemented.

      @@reconc4t Well yeah. It's not finished product. And I'm sorry that I wasn't clear in what I posted but now I will be. Puppet spawn is far from perfect. It's better then how it was few months ago but still not good enough. Where I see hope is that devs said the same thing and that it will be fixed. So I'm playing and waiting .

    There is a delay in spawning puppets.
    As example: if you go in with a vehicle at half or full speed, you end up getting spawns in front and back of you.
    If you walk in, you kind of clear weave after weave until u r at the gunshop or whatever u focus.
    But i swear to god, spawns like these this close, never happen.
    Theres something wrong with their Settings.
    Was playing yesterday with a friend inside the big city.
    One puppet were chasing a chicken and all of the sudden changed his mind and charged at us and we were already fighting two.
    Three of em made so much noise fighting that half the city charged at us lol
    One of us died :(
    One had a 2h sword and one didnt :x
    Guess who died.
    Think we gotta half the noise attraction.

    I stayed looting in a basic triangle formation of the outer Abandoned Bunker Military crates near this location, the gun store and the fuel station and after a few laps I had working guns and ammo and a backpack.
    I dont think anyones likes the new encounter system, but its a game I have supported and enjoyed for so long, I guess I'm able to mostly ignore things. You are right they should populate all at once with a cooldown. I guess its how it used to happen tho as well as the loot etc, coz at times as I approached a town game would fully freeze for like 3 seconds. But it never got me killed and I think I'd still prefer it the old way. Its frustrating not ever being able to clear an area. And idk why they forced the bows to be the meta. Melee used to be fine but now its not fast enough and a horde will come more often if trying to stick to melee.
    But yeah, I still play the game.

      Bows aren't even meta. You can still call a magic popcorn horde with a bow. This whole spawn system is pretty unplayable. Mileage may vary

      In singleplayer you can activate: scum.EnableEncounterManagerLowPlayerCountMode=0 (0 to 1) which spawn a whole city of puppets at once, not in weaves.
      It doesnt work in multiplayer servers.

    I have not played this game yet and I find it terrifying just watching those zombies just appear out of nowhere !!!!. This game has really become seriously bad when it comes to the puppets. I don't even think that I want to play this game anymore when it is this bad. I would rather play minecraft and fight those zombies LOL. I am so sorry that somebody like yourself who has been playing this game for so long has to deal with this thing now even after so many updates. What up DEVS !!!!!

      I would recommend picking it up and trying it for yourself. The puppets are very frustrating at times, but it's still a great game with lots of potential!

    I don't know many people who enjoy the game these days I myself have been looking for something else to spend my free time on until a devkit gets released.

      I've tried all of the serious zombie survival games and some not so serious ones. Nothing comes close to pre 0.95 SCUM. That patch really soured it for me. I'll keep soldiering on though!

    I agree - the encounter system has been improved slightly but there is only so much that you can polish a Turd. Gone is the immersion, as is any form of strategy, or a sense of progression. The spawn radius around Air Drops means that puppets just dissapear when you run out of the radius, then reappear when you step in the ring once more - pure BS. It just beggars belief that the core of the game has been so radically changed in the very last stages of its development, and i know it is supposedly to assist NPC spawning, but they are not here yet, we therefore can only hope that it gets better, because it cannot get any worse.

      I keep holding onto hope that once the NPCs come the puppets will get a more traditional spawn and these armed npcs will have a separate system. But honestly if the armed npcs behave this way it will be just as bad...well worse actually because now they will have guns. Oi. I just don't know. My favorite game LMAO 🤣

    Absolutely infuriating in PVP... I sneak into a town, hear player making noise... I figure hey let me just get to the top floor of this building and click him... as I vault in through the window on the bottom floor I literally see a puppet spawning next to the wall of the house and instantly going aggressive. Plan failed, player heard me and ran like the wind.
    Terrible, terrible puppet system.

      Agreed. A new horde build is being tested. Should be in our hands in a few weeks. Hopefully, they get the message!

    Well i am one of those who left because of the way puppets spawn now, before they changed the spawn system the puppets were absolutely fine, they were not too easy and not too hard, now theyre unpredictable and just annoying.
    They promise that they want to improve the spawn system in 1.0 but i dont see how they want to improve something which cant be improved the way that it fits the community, hell i am even thinking about buying DayZ SA which isnt much better.
    If the spawn system wont become better after 1.0 i am gone for good and i think many other aswell.

    Honestly, it's been like that for so long, I legit forgot how it was before... 😅
    But I remember playing in 0.75, you drove through an empty town, did a 180 drove back and the town was alive all of a sudden with puppets in the streets and yards.
    And you knew every spawner in every house.
    So imo it wasn't great before either, but this now is ridiculously bad. 😑

      yeah it was cool having them inside houses and ontop in almost every room.
      BUT
      After some time u knew exactly where they were ! lying !
      Therefore u draw your arrow, open the door and headshot em before they can get up.
      That quickly got boring, imo.
      Now they r less and spawn in weaves.. , but with the right settings, u dont oneshot em in the head (if not the thin sonic one), they dont sleep anymore and they break through doors & windows.
      I remember being overrun in a coast city back in the days.
      We quickly ran into this food truck kind of building, closed doors and took em all out without a scratch.
      Also in todays settings u can define noise attraction among puppets and weapon.
      The new settings get very interesting tbh and i cant wait to share it someday.

      There is nothing wrong with the settings. This is by design. Been like this since day 1 of 0.95 I'm very surprised at the amount of people that are ok with it to. It shouldnt take a server owner hours and days of experimenting and tweaking to get the puppets to feel immersive and fun. It's broken.

    Yeah I've checked out of the game, at least until armed NPCs and quests come out. My presumption is at that point, the game will stress more armed NPC encounters (similar to Deadside) and less random puppet spawns. Hopefully that means less need to focus on puppets as the primary (or only) threat source, forcing server admins to jack up their counts and damage.
    Honestly, with respect to the devs (because I've noticed they've gotten better about their communication), I don't think their particular strong suit is encounter orchestration. Insta-spawns are ok in games with more of a power fantasy angle (Destiny, TFD, etc.), but in realistic shooters where one bullet or injury can mean death, it's just incredibly unfair. And now they've added drop ships to wreck your base. Wonderful. lol
    Good on you for trying to stick with the game, but tbf, if you aren't having fun with it, I'd suggest finding something else you do enjoy (I know I have), at least to play when you're not "making content." Your sanity will probably thank you. Thanks for the vid!
    Edit: btw, I think that town has a small military checkpoint close to the beach, around the middle of the town.

      Thanks! I appreciate this comment more than you know. It's been a struggle, feeling like I'm giving up on the game and pushing myself to keep playing, at least the same way i used too. . Maybe it's time for a change of pace.

    The stupid Puppets are damn ANNOYING and prevents me from playing the game and has done since last year.
    I CANNOT understand the Devs not sorting them out as a PRIORITY before anything else. They break the game experience and make it unplayable as a solo in my opinion

      I've put posts out on steam about it and they either get flamed by the fan boys (Dev's besties or probably lots of fake Dev accounts) or you get a warning because the Devs monitor their own steam page and discussion which is pathetic

    love this game but i just can't play it anymore. devs keep saying be patient we're tweaking it. it's been since dec 14th 2023. this shit is not fun and they aren't going to change it. rip

    I keep trying to come back to scum, but its shit. The puppets are the worst thing about this game, the spawn system is teeerrrriiiible!!!!
    Couple that with the fact that there are next to zero servers that have mechs (the whole selling point of the game!) and it will just continue to gather dust

      It used to be very competitive with DayZ, shame you weren't here for the pre 0.95 days. It was a very immersive and addictive game. It still can be, but it's taken a beating this year!

    I understand that there is to be a Scum basic mode? Where it is a milder experience for new players. Well why not just do that for the regular mode? I don't like the game where it is right now and I don't play anymore. Return the game to what it was in 2018 and I would play again. I don't understand what the vision of the Developers is for the game. I figure my interest waned when they added that Glamour patch who the "****" cares about character make-up eyeliner lip and eye shape? Survival game? I guess that's where I lost focus. It's a shame really I logged over 5000 hours at that point. I just want it to be like 2018 where me and the squad I was in looted the POI and built wherever we wanted or took over a town. Ah dang it I am rambling and nostalgic. Am enjoying your channel and content.

      They added a new player experience. It spawns in a "safe" location and I think you have some kind of pve protection temporarily. Honestly I need to look more into it. Might do a video on it. And ya. The vision for SCUM is confusing at best. The reason I got into SCUM was as a DayZ alternative that had more varied and immersive pve elements. But not everyone plays the same. There are a lot pvp players that don't seem to care about the pve side in the least

      I agree, they lost sight of whats important but to be fair, the current generation throws money at preorder, dlc's and beauti-skins-packs.

    also there is a huge frustrating problem #2 - every zombie hit is cut, = bleeding, nomatter what you are wearing on. is this Barraka cosplay(Mortal Combat character)? or this is some kind of a stupid joke from devs? cuz i dont see any blades on zombies hands

      That's true. Luckily the C1 cuts are extremely superficial. But if you have a character with a compromised immune system then it could be death

    Is this footage from an old patch of SCUM?
    Durin last week i was figuring tons of settings to make an immersive zombie survival server setup.
    Tbh theres tons of misunderstanding and if u combine 2 wrong multipliers it can get goofy at times.
    That aside i cant remember it was ever like this on my setup.
    I could get rid of this random close bush or out of the ground spawns.
    But to make it immersive and still dangerous u can trigger the already existing zombies with noise very well.
    Some might also call for help with their scream (Not really help but its loud and others react to it)
    Also cant remember to get freezing during spawns.
    Only some weird nvidia shadowplay issues with SCUM and HUDsight combined.
    If you really looking for an immersive zombie survival challenge, u can try out my server settings and tell me if its better than average now.
    Not asking for advertisment here, just think the settings get as close as it can get to old times (not as far away and many but really enjoyable)

      This was recorded last week. It's a community server called kaboom. But these spawns are common place once you raise the spawn multipliers in anyway. Challenge = no immersion. Immersive = no Challenge. It's a slider. The more you increase the puppet spawns the more you notice how bad the spawn mechanics really is. The micro stutter happens with almost every puppet spawn. I'm on 4070 with a 13th gen i9 the stutter coupled with the audio que is how I knew that puppet spawned basically right next to me. When you notice it you can't unsee it.

      @@reconc4t You can raise puppets to multiple 3 max and multiple with player amount to 3 so something with x9.
      BUT the devs were splitting zones in low, medium and high threat zones.
      Cities are low or medium, idk exactly.
      When i walk in that city on my own with no other players it spawns 12 zombies around me without lag and on 100 meters away on open streets and bushes.
      I never get such close spawns as u did in the gameplay, really.
      If your going to loot a proper military camp here, its a real challenge to not attract to many puppets.
      They can either hear themselves or the noise u make.
      Robots are off because the amount of zombies defending the loot is enough.
      Not sure if cpu, gpu are the key here, but i guess i dont need to mention nvme ssd seeing your rig?
      I also removed wild puppets but heavily added wild animals for wildlife immersion, which works perfectly fine.
      My friend and i, we really put alot effort in survival zombie immersion settings last week.

    The people that lived there are gone. Consumed in TEC1 labs. As developing ground for phoennix tears and afterward as test subjects for BCU prototypes, as well as other experiments. We have seen Razors and Brenner as first examples.
    As for the puppet part. The system was a tec demo at best. We basically playing not only early access. This is more like a permanent experimental branch. This system is as unfinsihed as the modular cars were at start. For me its a completely stupid decision to implement it. The biggest chunk of the player base are single player pve guys. Fuck up the main content and basic functions is a new level of degeneracy.
    Tried a pvp server couple of times. Its completely annoying to approach a player silently, since the constant barrage of bush spawning puppets screws everything up. Since that ive seen it switch more to a battle royale playstyle bunnyhopping and running.

      The direction is good but far from perfect or finish.
      I prefer the current settings, if they get more detailed tweaking

    I stopped playing this game as it was unplayable meaning not enjoyable at all. Seeing so many updates and patches i figured let me give it another go, I grinded a bit saved up like 4k and was deciding where to build a base, as i was looting i accidentally stepped in fire as im checking a car, guy gets burns which got infected and i ended up litreally spending all my money trying to cure the burn and infection which kept coming back and simply never healing. I don't know if it was glitched but it was very annoying to die as i couldn't do a thing about it, while i spent 4 k trying to heal it, antibiotics and antiseptics again n again and just wont heal at all.. Only way to really play is to use cheats via spawning and you can try godmode, but trying to play the game purely without cheats means your grinding of 12 hours can simply disappear for the dumbest mechanics ever. Trying to push the limit of game mechanics is fine but when you make your own game unplayable sorta becomes Tarded. So much potential, Such a waste of time. I should sue them for wasting my time and taking my money. They sold the game as challenging, this is tarded.

      Burn gel and bandages is wgat u need to heal those things lol. Gor me it seems like a skill issue and not a game issue😝

      Its kind of new, u treat burns with burn-gel.
      Treat infection with alcohol bandages, antibiotics, garlic and the most important: lay down in a bed (NOT GROUND) and take off dirty clothing.
      I learned it the hard way, same as u :)
      4k is not much.
      Example: always carry a carjack, dismount every alternator, front lights R+L and rear lights F+L, doesnt take too much space and good cash for little effort.
      A good community would've told u that if u asked in chat im sure :)

    nobody who plays the game is cool with the spawn system, nobody enjoys this. everyone complained about the horrible state the puppets are in to such extend that now it has let to apathy. we are in this mess for almost one year and they still haven't fixed it. which leads me to believe that the devs either don't care or they are not capable enough to fix it. they should have made fixing it their first priority above anything else. but their downfall was that instead of listening to the community, they listened to people with a toxic positivity problem like deathwisper who cannot admit how bad it is. now every single one of my friends, almost all content creators i followed have stopped playing this game. which is really sad because i want this game to be good. if i bought this game today, i am sure i would have refunded it very quickly.

      I'm like 75% positive that death whisper works for gamepires. And yes. The devs do not want to change the puppets it seems. They seem to be of the mindset that it's fine and this is the spawn mechanics they want. If armed NPCs drop using this mechanic or a similar one, and the puppets are still like this, then that's my line in the sand to stop making SCUM content. I can't make videos on a game I don't like. It will show in my videos like it already is. My hope is they are using the puppets to test spawn mechanics for the armed NPCs and they will revert the puppets back once they drop and continue refining the encounter manager to use with drop ships and NPCs.

      @@reconc4t unfortunately they have confirmed that they will not revert the puppet spawn system. i remember early summer when the devs said that they fixed it and nobody noticed a change. all they did is limit the maximum puppet multiplier for hardcore servers from 10 to 3 so nobody could see how broken it was on those maximum puppet settings. obviously they don't know how to fix things. if they knew, they already would have done it. and they said that now puppet spawn further away from players, but again and again i have puppets spawn less than 1 meter next to me, even explosive ones. in military poi's it is very noticable, if they had capable game testers they surely would notice it too. seems only deathwhisper is testing the game for them, probably only on the easiest settings. and lets not talk about all the puppets glitching through floors, walls, rocks etc. and the bush and inside tree spawns. scum could be such an amazing game but this breaks it all. and they are close to 1.0 they say. the game is in such a bad state and they are rather working on new stuff than dealing with the core issues. i had 6k hours in scum before the fatal puppet rework. now i am hardly ever playing anymore. such a shame...

    i hate the puppets in scum and now almost all servers have puppet spawn turned way up and make them so strong they one hit ya the game is just not fun anymore. the puppet spawns are garbage.

      The spawns are worse than they can be in this gameplay here.
      I mean they are way less than before, therefore u kinda need to tweak with health and damage a bit.
      Sure some ppl have no idea what they doing, thats when u get oneshot.
      But the window jumps and door kickers are nice to have to make pressure even when they are less overall.
      Oh and btw.. cities are low or medium threat zones.
      No matter what settings (if HORDE /off) u cant expect a damn lot.
      Like i said above, u have to deal with weave after weave until u reach ur destination inside the city.

    The spawning is worse they can now despawn aswell And no I do not enjoy this at all.

      Yes! That's the worst part of all this as you enter and leave an area they can constantly despawn and respawn!

      Many many patches back, when puppet spawns were nice, u could drive towards a gas station, spawn million of puppets with suicides in between, turn and despawn them and in return gain free loot.
      I know its abusive but u could, if you sht on immersion.

    I'll tell you why, for starters. They're called zombies. Not whatever the hell a puppet is, next up is the supreme overload AI that controls the mechs that aren't bad to dodge but are simply just annoying and have no reason to be within a post apocalyptic survival game that tells you, that you're in a giant dome prison for the worst possible crimes. Literally makes 0 sense.
    Ganna put an outcast in a dome simulating a zombie apocalypse but oh with a twist, from waaaaayyyy down left field ... let's add mechs.
    Let's also add the inability to choose where you would like to spawn so it makes the game almost impossible to enjoy with friends.
    I added a comment once on their steam dev updates log thing once, similarly to this one. And they banned me from commenting indefinitely.
    Just goes to show how full of shit they are and how many people are able to make games these days but shouldn't.
    Great example of what not to do.
    I was gifted this garbage and refunded it within 30min. Game is not fun. Game is boring and makes no sense. And doesn't encourage social interactions or anything sociable really. Like I said. You don't and can't choose where you spawn. And it's random every fuckin time. What a dumb idea.

      Their setting always was kind of hunger games.
      Theres a reason ppl enjoy DayZ and SCUM.
      Both have random spawns.
      Oh and btw, if you build up your character, u can spawn in your base, with your squad, or in certain map areas.
      Its just not your style of game.
      It also has tutorials now.

      this is really funny. complaining about mechs when you played less than 30min. they are literally the easiest thing to outmaneuver. and even if they spot you they have such a bad aim that they rarely hit you unless you're standing still. there are beginner pve servers which have mechs turned off, they should be suited to you. and then you have sector and base spawns. most beginner servers have the cost of spawning turned off. and if they banned you from commenting, i am sure you did not use appropriate language
