I trained with Jon in San Diego back in 2004-2006. To say he was "troubled" would be like saying "the sun is hot"....it was blatantly obvious. The gym we trained at (Undisputed) is on University ave, so every once in a blue moon some drunk ass would stumble through the front door talking shit, saying he could whoop everyone's ass here, blah blah blah. Most of us would just chuckle and carry on doing what we were doing, but Jon wouldn't have any of it. If the guy was lucky and Jon was in a good mood, you would just get choked unconscious, literally rolled out the front door and bitch slapped across the face to wake you up. If Jon was having a bad day....you get the idea. Going out with Jon was quite the adventure as well. Only went out once or twice with that crew, but they were the kings of the "come at me bro" chest bump movement. Once Jon made it on the Ultimate Fighter, that's when he really started going downhill. You need to have a special kind of mindset to handle fame, Jon didn't have it. His ego was out of control, he didn't train as hard, got into heavy drugs, ext. we were never "friends"....mostly aquentencies who would punch each other in the face from time to time, just observations made from a distance

The problem wasn't his traumatic past. The problem was getting too many "slaps on the wrist" and not having a mentor to act as a father figure ever since his dad tragically died. There have been other athletes (including fighters) and celebrities who have been through equally harsh childhoods. Some even worse. And yet, still managed to overcome those circumstances. Bottomline, any fighter or martial artists who abuses their skills like this deserves everything War Machine got and more.

My brother had the same issue. He got several domestics, a DUI, a tresspassing charge at the bar, and several other things. They just kept letting him out, and he would get another charge every month.. I finally thought they had him for good, and his bail was $120k-- so I didn't think he was getting out; but he knew the bail bondsman so well-- that the damn bail bondsman came down to the station and paid the $12k to bail him out--- because we were building houses and my brother was getting paid good money; so he did end up paying that $12k- just to bail out ONCE; let alone all the other times. Eventually he pushed a cop when they tried to arrest him again, and they threw the book at him----- gave him 14 years for all of his chargers. smh.. that was in 2011, and he's still in there.

No excuse. That being said, I have a hard time feeling bad for her. She’s a glamorized prostitute who wanted the easy money and glamorous life. Common sense should have told her from the beginning this guy was dangerous to be around but of course that’s why chicks like her stay around him, for the danger aspect. She wanted to be with the roided out ufc animal and she ended up getting hurt. It’s messed up, but I don’t feel sorry for people like her.

PTSD is a terrible destroyer. You have these traumatic events and then they scar you, they knot your head just as knots on your back grip your muscles. For your body, these knots reduce range of motion and the sense of feeling on the affected area.
PTSD is the same; it locks your head and stops you from becoming the person you are. You create lifeless masks to continue, yet those masks are always ego based, and under the right circumstances will lash out in whichever poison it picked in your psyche. The sad thing, is people with ptsd could go their whole life and never even know who they truly are, taken hostage by a lifeless monster mask created in their head.
    Unfortunate for all

Bullshit i saw my mum die in car accident when i was 13 and i did kickboxing training and Karate for 16 years were i learned respect for others. Half the problem here is drugs and steroids.
Maybe mma need to teach the same old values that traditional martial arts teach there students such as modesty and respect.

Deep down, all of those actions were basically an overcompensating outlet to who he really was at heart, an extremely insecure, incredibly afraid, lost little boy who was living in deep rooted fear and pain. He never was able to overcome his demon's and what he saw that day when his father passed. It would be a scene that kept playing in his mind daily. His childhood was forever tainted, robbed from him. Due to the separation of his parent's. This is why it is unbelievably important to maintain a healthy relationship with your kid's, even if the two parent's aren't together. Because then it'll lead the kid down this type of road in the future. All of these violent tendencies was him not understanding how to control his emotions. I'm not justifying what he did. But his past is definitely to blame here. It all traces back to his parent's, and the outcome of said situation. When a kid experiences that type of trauma, it's usually going to inflict a hard psychological pain that will be unbelievably difficult to cope with later on in life. Some use it a a means to shape there life into becoming a better individual. He was somewhat on the right track with that by choosing to use his pain as sport legally. But then personal issues got the better of him, and he went on a downward spiral on the sidelines. Obviously, a very disturbed, self absorbed man, who had no guidance, and couldn't handle himself. I'm just glad nobody died from this. (The violence i mean).
