I feel weird saying this but ODST’s soundtrack, in my opinion, manages to be a lot deeper than any of the games in the original trilogy. Idk what it is. I think ODST’s soundtrack just captures the lonely feeling and the hopelessness that the UNSC and humanity feel as they’re losing a hopeless war against the Covenant.

No you’re correct and your 3M buddies who you never met because that’s a lot of Odsts but still you feel sad and miss your friends now they’re dead because of the covenant!! So now you feel the need to go out with a bang....and destroy them! They destroyed your best friends! Your family! Your Brothers arms! Now they will pay but you’re the only one left, what do I do now? Depressed and lonely there’s no hope.......while I like Master Chief I think Jesus Christ is best! Idc what anyone thinks God is first! But master cheif second like Steve Downes........event that old man it makes me want to cry I hope I get to attend his funereal when he passes away a true legend that I never personally but still......I’d like to meet him of course not be apart of his life because I’m just a freaking stranger but who does not?!

it felt as if the halo in the video right now the halo was in there all alone in the universe and was the last halo of it kinds because of all the mission lots of them died and this halo in the cover was the last kind and it like the last halo just went out at the rainy day looking to see how all this has changed and that the war was finally over and so the last halo just have a brief peace until his life end.
This is just what i think, and it really sad but it a good end 😢

Rainy night in Vancouver right now. Taking a late walk in the rain with this track with the view of the lit city and the night sky and wet streets with no one around, and the simple reflection of the moon on the ocean's horizon while the raindrops patter the water....its heaven. Warm air. Halo does this track so well.

Reach had a heavy, beautiful narrative; Halos 1-3 had epic, driving soul. But ODST is the one game I’ve consistently leaned on when revisiting the series. Nothing feels more comfortable than being all on your own, no breath wasted, no moment squandered, swallowed in a mosaic of reflective neon and the dark embrace of a warm downpour, with nothing but your weapon and your will to keep you upright. Marty O’Donnell and Michael Salvatori could not have captured the feeling of noble solitude better if they had an entire lifetime working at it. Thank you for this compilation.

I like ODST’s beginning because you’re not some war machine Spartan like chief. You’re a marine that’s the closest thing to a Spartan but still a marine. Your mission goes wrong and you’re separated from your squad with covenant ships and soldiers patrolling the streets in some big ass city having to figure out where your squad is even though it’s been hours since they’ve been there and you think they already left you.

    • @alexunfiltered5756

It's been 12 years. ODST came out in 2009. I still remember walking down those void streets of New Mombasa, desperate not to be seen, picking and looting leftovers from a battle that ended hours ago. Contacting the Monitor and trying to make sense of it, aswell the entire situation. The outlines of the environments in the midnight shade. The choking corridors of dark buildings, going from room to room and clearing them. The broken screen with a helmet lodged in it. The empty med-gel canister. All, by that point, relics of what had happened before. The rain pouring down, lending the most desperate of time some tranquility. The fires casting a sick smoke into the skies and painting them all hues of orange and yellow. The fights on the skyscrapers, running a Warthog dry with the last tank of fuel, the endless hordes storming a plaza. A tank led by a couple brave souls smashing down fortifications of the invader. The mystery laid bare as you persevere, and what needs to be done.

Bungie was just made up of couple of 20 year Olds in an apartment making games... the legendary team that made games that would touch generations... they were just out there to follow their dreams... and they did...but what changed... what happened to bungie... sadly all good things must come to an end... Microsoft really was to blame for the end of bungie... corporate greed was now the primary objective of the gaming franchise... the original Bungie wasn't there for that... they cared about the experience, the fans, and the community. Now it just a franchise with a community torn in two between new and old. It's a tragic ending to such a great game and development team. I almost get the same feeling as if someone had passed away... the game series had been such a big part of my life and many others... farewell bungie, thanks for the great experience you gave to us all. I first played ODST when I was 12 years old. I grew up in a fairly naïve world, and played video games for most of my childhood until end of highschool. Now I'm 25 years old and am married. I'm being faced with the scariest and most impossible challenges I knew people struggled with when they were in the deep water of adulthood. I also became a Christian 1 year ago.
Bungie had a lot of love for its fans and I can't help but wonder if they knew of all the troubled young men that were coming out of their youth in this generation and how much Halo would mean to them. Now I truly feel like I can appreciate the Rookie. I'm surrounded by darkness and am being forced to face it in uncharted land. I never expected to feel this out-gunned, and disoriented despite preparing so much. The Rookie who has been put into a situation way above what he was expecting, and earlier too. His preparation completely undermined by circumstance, and his fate entirely at the hands of what lurks around the next corner.
The Christian battle is real. It is not a worldly optimization, nor a cultural fit, or an in-group. The living God is entirely real and we are about to see the real battle begin. I don't need to make any political statements for you to know what I'm talking about. And even if you've kept your head down from that, you can still feel it within yourself, or your family. But we will lose on earth and will not raise sword against it, only the Gospel. Christ is our only salvation, and I pray you put your trust in Him.

It's so incredibly sad that the servers are being shut down, and thankfully we have the masterchief collection to go to if we want our fix, but i don't think it'll ever be the same as those long past good times. Growing up, closing in on 30 years old now I don't talk with my friends too often, as we've all begun to go down our separate paths in life but that's okay. I'll cherish those memories forever. If any of my friends come across this comment, know that I love you guys, and my life would have been much more bleak without you guys.

It somehow captures my heart in an indescribable way. The theme shows the after math of invasion, of war, of fear...
I steal imagine what it must be like to be an ODST none the less of being a marine. The theme captures suspense.

So much nostalgia here. The Halo series actually cuts deeper for me because all the armor design of the UNSC, Spartans and ODSTs was carried over from an even older game that I believe even the old Bungie will not continue. It was called ONI, a game inspired by the cyberpunk Ghost in the Shell. The game has its flaws, but also a great amount of untapped potential as the ending has left quite the cliffhanger.

You can relly hear parts of the Halo Reach sound track, especially the drums that create a culmination of all Halo games. A symbolic unification of the story if I must say. It is interesting to a degree how both Reach and ODST follow a sad story in its core. Reach sees the death of NOBLE team as they attempt to save Reach from the earlier covenant and at the same time carry the story that was left to them only around 9 years earlier. But ODST did come out prior to Reach so maybe there was that link in progression. The ODST saw the side of Bungie slowly losing footing especially with Halo (Im not criticizing the Halo games CE - Reach, im talking about the games afterwards) that would soon start to pull away the feeling within the community that still manages to live on with Reach coming back on pc with mod support which I see as phenomenal. But the last two Bungie halos really bring the story. No longer are you seen as this super soldier. You're much less than that in some ways. You are strong together, but still falter in some way by yourself. You could say this in reference to NOBLE team. Each remember really dies by themselves. In some somber and others explosive ways that fit into the characters. I believe it was the act man to point out the deaths and how they link to their characters. six (the lone wolf) dies alone, carter (the captain) dies in a blaze of explosive glory, emile (knife dude) gets killed by an energy sword, kat (brains) gets shot in the head, jordon (native to reach) dies off of reach, but Jun (the sniper) doesn't die, kinda fitting with the role of a sniper. Now while their isn't nearly as much death for main characters in ODST, the situation from which they are around leave a much greater atmosphere that give an emotional situation to the overarching story, which finally concludes with REACH.

It's really something how the Covenant went from equal adversaries to the UNSC, to almost fodder in the face of the Prometheans, then eventually equals again, but as allies.
In the middle of the series here, though, they were overwhelming and terrifying. The New Mombasa segments felt like a legitimate invasion -- all darkness, and constant reinforcement. Next to some Flood missions, it's the closest HALO ever got to a horror game. It's the only time in the series I would actively avoid fights and attempt to sneak by enemies. I really enjoyed the unique experience of it.

Bungie nailed the music for this game. I love their use of the piano and sax.

Such a great game, such great music, honestly a perfect duo. The switches between the somber aftermath of a war zone scattered city and the action packed sections of blitz and bullets. All of the transitions blend well, painting a perfect picture that screams “war” and shows the connections of a lost comrade piecing a puzzle together by himself. Don’t get me wrong, I love the action sections, and the characters just emit an aura of personality, and yet I feel so more attached to the rookie, not only as your piecing the puzzle with him, but also that you are him. He is a mute vessel in which you can interact with the world. That was one thing, in my opinion, that Bungie nailed: the silent protagonist. Sure, having life and such in the game would’ve been nice, even if it was a brief backstory like in Reach, but Ilike the mystery. You draw the rookie as who YOU, the player thing the rookie should be, and thus through your play style. Sneaky? Maybe you’ll find touts around enemy encaments. Trigger happy? You’ll love the red plasma pistols and find yourself knee deep in hunter guts. Explorationist? You’ll find every extra cashe and audio note in the over world there is to find. Through this unknown medium, you don’t feel pressured to be the gun crazy Chief, and can play any role you want. With the addition of fewer shields and the return of health goes a step further how human you are, and how unaugmented you are. You CAN go in shotgun in hand, blasting away, but chances are, cover is your best friend, and lobbing grenades for easy line-breaks is a habit. This goes for both the action levels and the over world sections. Not to mention the beitifull music in the midst of all of this! It helps set the scene, flairs curiosity, warns defensively, blooms gently, booms harshly, almost every emotion is felt in the midst of all the missions. The music also sets the tone and theme, especially in the over world. I myself am a huge fan of jazz, and the hints of the sax was ingenious, giving a more urban, modern feel to the game with smooth undertones. The music you hear in the overworld is that perfect smooth symphony of the gentle piano and the soft sax, a perfect duet. All of this, and it’s a Halo game? This game was genuinely too good for its time, and being sold as an add on for full retail price set many off, but those who put their economic concerns aside were greeted with a true fantastical experience. I cannot say that I was into the game at the time, I was a younger kid then, but now I play for a minute, and get sucked in and end up playing it all the way through! If there were more levels, more pod drops, or forge, it would really be the perfect Halo game, in my opinion. It breaks my heart knowing this was one of the last true Bungie Halo titles, and you can tel they poured their heart and soul into this masterpiece, and knowing the chance of a TRUE Bungoro sequel will probably never come is even worse. I would love to see another installment in the ODST viewpoint, as it’s really an untouched canvas with a perfect base. However, with the way the recent Halo games came out, I’d rather play it safe and just have one masterpiece to its name, as hard as it is to say that. Now, the looks of Halo Infinite strike my fancy, and a Halo ODST game I that style would certainly be interesting, like a semi fictional semi realistic look. As long as it’s dark, has rain, is long enough for a good long game sesh, and has more of this music, I’ll pay whatever it takes. Just make sure it gets Bungies approval first! Sorry if there are any typos or anything of the sort, commenting on my phone

This summarizes my idea on the game too. This was my favourite Halo in the entire series due to it's rag-tag/undercover feel. It feels almost like a real war is being fought here, seeing you have to duck down, and stay under the radar; it has this realistic attachment to it, like it's telling a story of a lost, strong willed, yet broken soldier, but in such a way that other Halo games don't offer.
Sadly, a rather astronomical amount of the original Bungie team have either retired, or left the company; I crave another game like this, but it seems that one will not come in a long time.
I'm glad you commented with such precision as to what my feelings are for this game, I haven't played it in years, so I'm sure to have a session of it once I'm over at my friend's house soon.
This game is such an inspiring piece of work, the themes in it are just so truthful, and beautifully tragic, I can't tell if it's nostalgia or not, but I'm genuinely anticipating my next playthrough of the game~

This may sound a bit insensitive to the mood, but I heard that there was an ODST mod for Reach PC if you want to try that out, no shields, 3rd person, less maneuverable, and no super strength. ODST really was an underrated game that only gets better as you age.
