Putting on fresh scales is tougher than popping old ones back on. I use a vise. Works 60%of the time, all the time!

Heating the knife like in your coffee might soften the scales a bit making it easier and maybe keeping the scales reusable also getting them on without vise😅😊😊

If the scales are stubborn to get into place, put the scales in hot water and the knife in the freezer for 2-3 min. It should snap into place rather easily, my kid put it together with no effort.
