Dan Ives On Tesla's (TSLA) "Golden Vision"

  • Tesla's (TSLA) gross margin story is now in "stabilization mode" as we expect flattish gross margins in 3Q with a rebound in 4Q, notes Dan Ives. He looks at TSLA's earnings in focus. He discusses how TSLA monetizing the Supercharger network and batteries and A.I./F.S.D. technology is the "golden vision." He talks about the major takeaways from TSLA's 2Q earnings. TSLA's adjusted EPS came in at $0.91 versus an estimated $0.83 and revenue came in at $24.93B versus an estimated $24.88B. Wedbush raised TSLA's price target to $350 from $300. Dan then goes over the future of full self driving technology. He also outlines trends to watch in the technology sector. He highlights that in a nutshell, we view Tesla where Apple was in the 2008/2009 period as Cupertino was just starting to monetize its services and golden ecosystem with the Street not seeing the broader golden vision at the time. Tune in to find out more about the stock market today.

Re: Earnings Call. Crash the price, so more can buy, to soon afford an EV. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! As for the earnings debate, why is it so impossible for ANYONE to take Elon at his word? What if one merely assumes that he is a master manipulator who anticipates all possible responses to his quips, stutters, & “mid-speaks” that are well calculated to produce the result that HE desires? Why wouldn’t he do that, as a matter of course? Given the macro & corporate context, NOW would be the optimal time to crash TSLA with the least risks of the stock fully recovering, by the time of which, the stock will likely be boosted by circumstances to even greater heights? The result of this “plan” are the maximum of his beloved “small investors” to partake AND their subsequent likelihood to buy an EV, thus satisfying Tesla’s primary objective. I.e., Try & be sufficiently humble to second guess your OWN urge to second guess the Master. Re: FSD Licensing. Vehicular automation is highly dependent (for OTA & systems integration) on componentry compatibility which ONLY bespoke EV designs have. That’s why all of VW’s 40k army of (generic) programmers & boasting could never deliver OTA, let alone automated navigation. All Legacies must revamp their designs, which includes forcing their suppliers to comply with dictated specifications or simply going vertical. I think if they put like idk 50 teslas in all major cities and hire uber or grab drivers and make more people who don't even speak english experience riding in a tesla. People will consider buying a tesla more. And it's not a mythical creature and its something people have seen and been in and know what it is. If they stood in all major cities and ask randomly have you been in a tesla 9 out of 10 haven't driven haven't been in 1. That's a problem.. they have to make people experience It in real life.

Elon is the only CEO awake in the room, the rest are asleep while he is innovating. He is also one of the only 'car companies" who has diversified which will eventually make him the biggest most important company in the world. You can already see the seeds he has been sowing starting to bloom into profit generating ventures. So all this focus on margin is subterfuge from the haters. Eventually there will be nothing left to say about him and his ventures will speak for themselves as he holds the competition in the palm of his hand. As they say........never bet against Elon. It's the same story in the science community. One lone scientist shakes up the entire community with a discovery. He is shamed and dismissed for even proposing all the other geniuses are wrong. Than later on (or after his death) he is discovered to be right.

Margin is of little consequence when you can sell more cars for less. Elon started out with one car that everyone loved and wanted in a time when car buyers had money. He sold it at a high price with limited production, and even launched one into space just for fun. Now that times have changed Elon has adapted. He is selling a high number of cars by lowering his prices to meet his sales requirements for profit. Even though margins are lower he managed to increase profit 40% over Q2 of last year. So while Elon is making money all the rest of the competition is slowly dying.....when will they learn. He could be a heartless billionaire but he is not. Rather than setting back watching them die he has not patented much of his processes. So as you can see now the poor fools are starting to wake up to reality. Sadly they are so far behind Elon has to use a telescope just to see them.....as he has said. The market is rigged against Elon, but clearly those who have set the trap are mentally inferior and will never succeed. Only Elon can ruin himself with his antics outside his entrepreneurial ventures. Even the mighty can fall.......

If I had the ability to go to my daughter's house 7 hour drive away, by FSD while I sleep all the way there, I would visit more than 4 times per year. FSD effectively would change even air travel. Right now I will drive 15 hrs instead of flying, because I would have my own car, take whatever I want, and leave whenever I want. With FSD I would extend that to 24 hrs for the conveniences, because I can still be effective while the car is driving itself. This would basically give me range to go anywhere in the lower 48 without flying. And don't even get me started on the commercial benefits. The money savings there will change everyone's lives for the better.

And still banking almost a billion a quarter while still ramping and expanding. The storage side of the business is really picking up and there is a second mega factory opening up in China soon for that. And probably a few more as well. Nothing is going interrupt that sector. Its the cheaper option for grid operators and it can pay for itself in less than 2 years.
