We must keep in mind that wealthy people of Sir Walter Scott's time did not live with their single family unit and a few servants to wait on them in their castles. Their castles estates were like cities and supported a large number of outlying farmers and villages, as well as a couple hundred people who lived with them at their castles, including many paid/otherwise supported servants as well as members of their extended families. Beautiful video.
Thank you very much for this interesting and nice video. I admire Sir Walter Scott, mainly because of his noble and heroic attitude towards his creditors and his refusal to declare himself bankrupt. He carried on writing till the day he died to wipe-out the debt. Greetings from Argentina.
Awesome building and beautiful surroundings. I wish I had the money to built my dream castle, too. Wonderful shots with the drone and excellent indoor filming, too, my dear friend. 🤘👏

The insurance and local proterty tax bill must be hugh!
Oh yes. £40,000 a year for insurance premiums alone. Which is why the charity which cares for Abbotsford is always fundraising!
I would like someone to allay my suspicions that those who had the wealth to build in such a grandiose style did it with money honestly earned.
I’m sure many weren’t but Abbotsford was the result of Scott’s success in his writings.
@@Seekerfilms That I very much doubt.
@@tomarmstrong1281 He sold more books in the 19th century than any other writer. The most successful author of his age globally.
@@gilesingram1052 Thank you for the reply.
Abbottabad as in Bin-Laden?
