So here's the thing. I have been in the media industry for about 30yrs...yes, 30ys. I got my film and tv training on big sets with all sorts of film and tv gear...so I've witnessed the growth of media storytelling techniques from the sublime to the rediculous. In short, hooray for Marcus! Also a long time industry professional who is isn't afraid of playing, reimagining, tinkering, modifying all sorts of production gear and taking the mystery and snobbery out of media to offer so many do-able, affordable options for new storytellers. P.S. my go to is to add parchment or diffusion paper over everyday LEDs to simply soften. Keep at it, Marcus!
man, with the good stuff you used to make when all was film and close to impossible to make movies. How aren't you not making movies now? with the lights, cameras and everything in between been so much accessible.
Nope, but it used to be a lot of budget channels that did this like 12 - 14 years ago, I really miss that time. When GH1, GH2 and Canon 500D were basically the RUclipsrs scrub camera of choice and people using super cheap lighting and cheap studio sets yet still looked brilliant.
I actually use a similar formfactor set of lights as grow lights for my tropical plants. They've always been my little secret because you can get 160 watts of light (80 watts each) for $40 bucks... Well they used to be 40 bucks. Definitely going to look into these.
@@elram2649 So, quality of light does come in to play, but as long as the actual (not advertised) wattage per square foot is high enough for the verity of plant, yes. In my case, each light draws 80 watts from the wall, so total of 160 watts for both. I also own a 500w and a 250w grow light with horticulture binned LEDs, and the results per square foot are comparable.
Thanks Markus Pix. I actually took your recommendation on the 4ft garage lights picked up a couple boxes and I have to say it works amazing on older people. It gives that extra pop of glam. I will say once I diffused them it gave a softer ooh la la look. Can you believe the client thought I used an Ai filter to make them look younger. It was the lighting. So as long as the talents makeup looks great, the lighting only enhances what's given to me. I will definitely check out the garage fan lights from that brand FEIT. Great demo
I saw these bulbs at Ollies for about $6-7 and bought a couple to try out in my studio. I've been using them ever since. I've also used the big 4ft flexible lights as well. They are great to wrap light around a subject.
Markus Pix... Always love your videos... Here is a question though: If you could take one photography gadget back with you 20-30 years ago, what would that be?
This is the video i was waiting for. Spent ONE DAMN YEAR trying to understand wich cheap led light buy to make something portable and affordable. I gave up recently and spent some money to buy 2 ulanzi cob and one zhiyun b300, Just because no one is reviewing this cheap lights for video use. I was scared of flickering and CRI so i went for the expensive choices and i repent. I miss my first DIY light made by 6 bulbs.. If only i saw this video before probably i would spend that big money to buy tons of this cheap lights.
Thanks again, Marcus. Just today I bought a cheap professional light for $ 300. PULUZ 150W. And I'll tell you, it's a really amazing light in a cheap case. Did you notice if you were reviewing cheap "professional" lights from unnamed manufacturers? As always, from Russia wth love ❤
Just a little sidenote. These lights are made for the US E26 screw in fitting and 110 V/60 Hz. For Europe you need these to have the EU E27 screw in fitting at 220V/50 Hz. They cannot be interchanged because they won't fit.
I spotted those after looking into the 4' tube work light you mentioned before. I could also see them being used on clamp light sockets for versatility. Have you seen the LED floodlights they have on the market? They're pretty cheap and also come in the RGB type (if you're into that kind of thing) and seem to be pretty powerful. They're not battery powered but I'd love to know how they compare to proper studio lights, if you're up for experimenting with more unorthodox lighting :) Thanks for doing these videos and showing us options for what can be done on a small budget. I love your content.
They're very common here where I live. We use these to light up our homes and other things like food stalls, wet and dry market places, and various small shops.
I love your ideas. I don't agree with the paper for WB though because you never know what colour the paper is. Just take your WB directly from the source.
But negative R9 should be concerning? That light socket mount is awesome, with an umbrella and some higher quality LED you're getting some very compact video setup.
What about small reflectors? I use them in my woodshop. Sometimes, I have to take photos and record videos. Once you adjust the white balance they are all you need.
Sure enjoy your videos! I’ve been a part time filmmaker for the last twenty years but never been much of a gear guy, more into the art instead of the tech. In 2005 I made a feature documentary that did very well and actually made some money lol. My filmmaking kit consisted of two $500 Sony handy cams and a Sony mini audio recorder. Same thing again in 2011, I made a feature documentary that got distribution right away and did very well. This time I stepped up my game and bought two $1500 Canon camcorders. Lol. I’ve done various small projects since and am coming close to retirement and will have more time to do what I love…. Make more films! I love your common sense approach to gear so thought I would ask your advice. I currently have a Canon XA70 but was thinking about upgrading to something new for my retirement. Any suggestions?
It be interesting to see whats the cheapest portable portrait lighting you can get away with? There these old reflectors you can mount on the camera from the 60s, not sure anyone sells them anymore or even makes them, a lot of photo lights from China is like 20 - 40 bucks and can use Canon batteries, or how about a clamp, a very bright cheap flashlight from hardware store and then construct a cheap softbox over it.
Have you tested a Sionyx aurora pro camcorder yet do you have one, can you make a video? How to set one up for night vision, the right way or camcorder similar to it my be a sony. Maybe explain how it works. I think it will help a lot of people out. I have 4 of them. You're an expert at this and you got a bigger channel so you can help a lot more people. Thanks.
@MarkusPix I know they're not good quality. I was hoping that maybe you had an idea for good camcorder that get good footage for night.Maybe a sony camercoder or Camera I want to stay with Sony camera. I Tried all types of settings with those sionyx aurora thay are not good at all I was hoping I wasn't doing something wrong..I just don't think they're worth the money. Thanks for reading all the comments. I'll save my money up for a high-end. Sony camera 1 inch. sensor.. thank for all video you make it help a lot. You're helping me out a lot.. I have thousands of pictures and hour video hopping to Start editing. Input into my RUclips channel. Thanks a lot. Please keep making videos it help people out..thanks
You know what's funny? You can bet that many budget video lighting manufacturers are going to literally rush to selll their own spin on this one after watching this video and charge 3-4 times the price of these ones by putting the word "professional video light"
Once again proving that media and common sense are not mutually exclusive. The easiest option is to just get a couple of LED light bulbs that have a color temperature of 5000 k. I've gotten amazing results with that. You don't have to spend big money to get good results anymore. You just have to have a little bit of knowledge.

I agree
I enjoy his videos
His background is very interesting and creative
The characteristics of a genius is they can take the complex and make it simple. Marcus is beyond genius. Love the videos.
man, with the good stuff you used to make when all was film and close to impossible to make movies. How aren't you not making movies now? with the lights, cameras and everything in between been so much accessible.
There's nobody like you, Markus. Thank you
no brand friendly influencer would make videos on these unique ways to light up your photos/videos

Its just pure joy to watch these kinds of videos.

Can you actually grow plants effectively with these types of LED lights? 😮

Thanks Markus Pix. I actually took your recommendation on the 4ft garage lights picked up a couple boxes and I have to say it works amazing on older people. It gives that extra pop of glam. Love it, your like Star Trek.....to boldly go where no one has gone before
Im Canadian and found in Dollarama some "Globe" ones with the centre part and two blades, 5 bucks CAD! I bought a tonne of them and use them all over
Came here to say the same. $5 CAD at Dollarama.
I use those kinds of lights in my kitchen and laser room, where I need lots of light. Cool review.
I've wondered about these kind of lights. Now, you've provided me with answers. Thanks!
illuminating video, big fan!

I like that even though you are well off you really love the cheap stuff.

Watching Markus's videos just puts me in a good mood!

Really great comment and useful comment. Thanks!
Love it... this could be exactly the affordable solution to lighting in my improvised shed studio that I was looking for! :)
Thank you for the Small Rig 12" Teleprompter
Been using them for ages. I make them portable with my Ryobi battery pack using 9 ah batteries.

Fantastic idea! Thank you for educating us.
What will you think of next Mr. Markus? Love the idea of using this budget lights.
I was thinking about using those a few months back but never got around to it.

well bloody hell, they are cool (if a little greenish).
Markus, great ideas. Plus you videos are entertaining.
Thanks for your continued content, love it. Keep up the good work.
Great idea !
Funny thing is that last month I was looking at it and saying to myself: " Markus did not talk about it, so it can wait!" 😂
Now you have to be quick before they sell out 😂
Thanks for sharing.

Gonna be some FUNKY CATCH LIGHTS though.

hey Markus! what a lovely thing you made! :)
but why you didn't switch the fan on? it might be wind effect on your hair!!
Hey Markus, best regards from Germany 👍
But negative R9 should be concerning?

You would think. But then look at the white balanced and tint adjusted result. I just added +3 Magenta
Cool beans dude!
I was expecting these to spin up to create more even light haha
It would cause a flickering effect if it did
What about small reflectors? I use them in my woodshop. Sometimes, I have to take photos and record videos. Once you adjust the white balance they are all you need.
anyway i can work with those led lights with portable battery or outdoors?
pretty cool!

The “Rob Hunter” giveaway winner hits close to home! Tallahassee, Florida!! I’m in Crawfordville💪🏽 stay safe during this possible hurricane tonight!🫡
Feit makes a variable color temperature 300w equivalent bulb that runs at 33w and puts out 4000 lumens.
What surprises me is looking at the background, it’s not giving hard shadows. It’s looks soft and diffused. At least looking at it through my phone.
That's why I call them mini softboxes
that is cool :)
