  • Older people need more glamour lighting than the typical young RUclipsrs who are in their 20s and 30s. This tutorial shows the basics of understanding how to use proper lighting to hide wrinkles, aging, saggy skin and even how to fill out the face more so it doesn't look gaunt and shriveled. Stay tuned for more instructional basics on lighting tricks, including affordable methods that cost almost nothing- not using softboxes or stupid ring lights. Again, this video adresses lighting BASICS. Just because softboxes are used in this video, does not mean you need lots of softboxes to get a similar look. Yea I'm trying to mention my town on these comments of theirs and get them to get a place near me in Manton California. I really respect them alot and I'm always trying to recruit top notch people online. Manton is one of the greatest places on Earth for healthy living. It's way better than vegas for quality of life, but I get it if u got lots of cash vegas is fun. Unfortunately in this covid world rural remote places with great weather n endless natural resources are for sure the future. These guys will probably live to a 100 or longer so we might as well find a sustainable offgrid place if we're going to live a long life from now.🌞

Cara deserves many awards for allowing you to do this. Totally worth it for us, though, as it clearly shows the difference between lighting styles. With a lot of my work (live events with a variety of presenters), I tend to add a retouching plugin into the post processing, which also removes a lot of imperfections.

As quirky and most importantly (as real) as it is, this has been one of the most informative videos about lighting I have seen on RUclips. Your very honest and direct approach is, I think, what did it for me. It really drove the point home in a very straight forward manner. I never realized how much lighting affects the overall look of the subject. Thank you both for providing such great and informative content. 🙏🏾

100% honesty: I liked the 'youtube lighting' setup the best. But that's just because I like a natural look and because I feel that a beautiful woman shouldn't have to hide her age. But that's just a personal preference and not a judgment: I totally understand why you would feel different. Either way the effects of the different setups is super evident and you explained it masterfully. I have great respect for your generosity in giving this knowledge away freely, and you both seem like amazing people!

Hi Marcus, I wanted to say how much I love this tutorial. It was excellent that you really broke everything down and showed each step for multiple techniques. My father and I are filmmakers, I directed my first feature film at 17 years old and I wrote my first feature script when I was 19. It took me 8 days to write it! I just watched your other “Who am I?” RUclips video and it’s amazing what you have done and the fact that you’re trying to give your expertise to everyone! It’s inspiring me. My father and I fund our own films and between both of us have 15+ feature length scripts, and we are basically in-house one-Stop filmmakers. We are doing animatics for our latest feature film. We do everything from the voice overs to the editing to the sound design to the film composition all of it haha. It would really be just fun to to collaborate with you or just talk to you if you would want to 🙂
Also one more thing: She looked beautiful in every single lighting shot lol Even though I know that I know the purpose is to show "20 years younger" lighting look but I wanted to say that anyway haha

Both of you are absolutely amazing! OK so I am editing this three months after watching this video. I have a 30 year background in digital color management and professionally educating photographers. And I just learned something brand new, and applied it in my livestream studio. This is brilliant and I have never seen this solution presented. Yeah it is always about the simple setups to light younger perfect faces. OK studied your kitchen setup and it hit me that it was like a slice of melon, high at 45, and a big wrap around, almost like creating a clamshell out of striplights. Similar in a way to some television studios I have seen. That set me to thinking....
So this is what I did, I now have two: Glow EZ Lock 16x60 ARC Curved Strip Lights, zipped tied together at their ends, hung from my studio cage (two light stands would work just as well).
Which created a 6 foot wide curved wrap around strip of light. A melon slice of light, up at 45 degrees. Down close as I can get them without producing flare on glasses. Such a simple rig. This is flat revolutionary to my studio. A game changer. You would not believe how this lighting improves my own funny looking 67 year old face, it is a shocking difference. For clients, every time they sit in the chair for presentations or interviews with their normal human faces, flawless flattering light, no tuning, rock solid, every time. Anyone want a whole stack of different sizes of round soft boxes I'll most likely never fiddle with in the studio again?
Marcus you are a genuine master, the real deal. Thanks for digging deeper with your honest advice, than anyone else on RUclips.

The airport was tiny back then and when I raced my rotary engines at the racetrack, it was in the middle of nowhere. These video lighting tips are just what I needed. I agree about looking at catalogues. This is terrific, and both of you are beautiful regardless of lighting. Nothing beats experience and wisdom; the rest is just a superficial façade.

Michelle Pfeifer says that lighting is her beauty secret. Mind you you have to look good with the lighting though. Lighting cannot change your appearance just enhance it. You guys are good looking even without good lighting. Thank you for this video. You two are amazing. I want to know if there isn't something Markus is not good at! :-)

Amazing tricks. I'm not sure I can fit all those lights in my home! It feels a little counter-intuitive (can't I just do all my stuff in candlelight? 😆) but obviously such a difference. Thanks!

My God! Literally my God! This video, this channel, these people are literally true to life! Most, if not every photographer/videographer/cinematographer whether they are professionals, RUclipsrs, or hobbyist, always talk about gears and post process.
Nearly nobody talks about basic which really works.
Endless chase for better and "more better" gears, and they still feel or think their images suck. Rich people can do it. They can even afford to change or buy new camera bodies and lenses. Many of us cannot even have proper meals, let alone keep chasing for "better" stuff to oblivion.
Always start wrong and correct later. Just because they are shooting RAW. I do not think real photographers, cinematographers, nor videographers begin all sloppy and flippant simply because they have extremely high bit depth, colossal light sensor, hi-tech devices that allow images to be harshly post processed. Shoot first, correct later.

@MarkusPix Yes. I realised that after I watched many of your videos in marathon fashion as soon as this video of yours captivates me! I literally forced myself out of bed solely to write that and back to bed.
You really are a combination of old school AND new school. Old school because it is impossible for me to find how people in the old days do what they did. I always itch to know how they heck they actually did those lousy animations and effects. Very lousy but exceedingly realistic!
You know, it is like how acting in the old days are super stupid, bold, and direct, so bad to the degree that it is incredibly easy to watch and super enjoyable. Memorable, as you put it. Acting these days are all about 'weird' stuff because TikTok gurus say so. TikTok has become one of the worst influences of all things wrong. It is rather odd that people in the old days strived to have multiple colours and styles, however, people now somehow want to confine themselves to certain parametres such as MUST be in certain colours (the usual orange and teal), MUST have certain blurriness/bokah, MUST be in 24 fps, shutter speed MUST be doubled the number of fps (doomed if more, also doomed if less), and all other things which Internet University Ph.D (permanent head damage) says that an excellent film must have or must be.
Also, people in the old days are amazing in creativity. I have seen amazing artists in my lifetime, but you are another level. I mean, a real person like yourself on YouToob. And yes, you are right about soldier/army thing. A RUclipsr, Run N Gun, is/was a military photographer, his photography techniques and gears are just that - straightforward and practical. Audiophools and the likes of them would think he has military grade alien-tech Area 51 top secret gears that enable him to photograph beautiful moments.
Unless a person is dead, I never consider anyone a "legend". Legend is literally like the word "literally" being thrown about literally casually, literally, when they should be saying metaphorically or figuratively. Hahahaha!
I am not sorry for ranting, if it is a rant. It is a necessary rant. I am indirectly complimenting you!

Great video. I was supposed to shoot an interview with two yoga instructors yesterday (one mid-50's, one mid-60's) and one couldn't make it so the shoot is postponed until next week when I will use much different lighting than I would have yesterday. Thanks!
