      There's no way to stop that, just like there's no way to stop a thief from stealing your art now apart from dmca and a lawsuit (which rarely happens given the cost). This will be the norm, regardless. But platforms themselves stealing from you can be stopped. Cara doesn't stop art theft, it's just a platform that won't join the bandwagon to rip its users off. That's it. Instagram is legally feeding your data into their ai. Microsoft wants to do the same. Google is doing the same. Deviant Art was one of the first to screw users over. Adobe plans on doing it and like Microsoft, with files not shared publicly. That's just insane.
      Use it if you want. Don't if you do not. But it's not about stopping ai theft, it's making platforms doing it not become the norm.

    I entirely don't have the drive to pursue art as a career anymore. I think i had it as 14 or 15 year old but i don't think i have it in me to make it. Which makes me sad, but then again I definitely don't have enough life experience and im at the start of making a life for myself. So I can't be sure of anything. I won't be posting any art except privately on RUclips, for myself only. Though i think I'd like to get into the tumbler community more, I don't think i have noticed many ai fandom art. I follow some beginner artists because i see their progress, and I want to support them.

      dont give up. Being a professional artist is for sure not for everyone, but you can do it if you want to. Regqarding gAI, the bubble will pop, and we will win this fight. gAI and ai bros have lost and it's just a matter of time till they lose everything.

    As someone who suffers from depression and often hears people say, 'I know you have this life-altering mental disorder, but have you tried to be happy?' I don't think I could ever post art on Cara, since it appears to be the artistic equivalent. Adding a tag asking not to use my art for AI and expecting it to be protected-on top of being told, 'Oh, just glaze it; AI won't be able to copy it,' when it's known that AI can eventually find ways around glazing

  • @ohhadivist
    @ohhadivist 7 месяцев назад +12

    I personally am really excited about Cara because deviantART as it was back in the day was like my happy place, just artists posting with other artists. This feels like that. I stopped posting on Twitter and I could never get into posting on Insta bc they are not artist-focused. I also have stopped posting and even drawing for myself much at all in recent time because generative AI can do it better and I am already a perfectionist who struggles with liking my own work.
    I don't really mind that they can't stop AI people from scraping art because as you say it's inevitable, so fuck it, I just want somewhere where I can pretend that my main passion in life isn't being thrown in the mud and stomped all over. If it turns out to be a big failure, well, at least we tried to have something.

    Do people forget copyright literally exists? That existing law in itself shows it is THEFT if you take someone's photos and use them to do whatever you would WITHOUT the og owners position.

    • @sianais
      @sianais 7 месяцев назад +24

      The laws don't make provisions for them being used for machine learning. It's one thing when third parties scrape your sht off the internet, that has a legal basis for lawsuits since finding something online doesn't give you any rights to it. But platforms you upload to scraping your stuff are different. To some degree, using them means handing over some of your rights. And since machine learning wasn't a thing to worry about, they can use those provisions to indirectly steal your stuff. Until that loophole is expressly covered under copyright, they'll scrape and train these programs as fast as they can. It's like how Google and Co. did whatever they pleased with your data (something not covered outrightly by any law since it wasn't a thing yet) until laws to stop or monitor them got passed.

    • @GalaxColor
      @GalaxColor 7 месяцев назад

      @sianais it's not legal. Why do you think they are facing dozens of lawsuits? Scraping isn't illegal if you take like one image and save it as your background. What's illegal is using that data for profit without the owners permission. Also the only thing they said regarding selling your data did NOT include and still doesn't include giving your copyright to them. The only thing they mentioned is "using your data to advertise products to you." It is illegal that they use it for anything else because they didn't specify. It's called fraud. It's illegal what they're doing now based on already existing laws and with new adequate laws against gAI that already came in certain countries and will come for the rest.

    They never said the art is safe from ai scraping entirely, they just won’t use it. Instagram automatically does it, that’s what they were trying to do something about. They also make sure it’s not a platform where people can just post ai art however they want so i still think its good. Not leaving instagram but i like the app and the community a lot

  • @bubblegumblue5304

    My only issue is i've only seen artist talk about moving. No regular non artist is talking about moving over the care. A lot of people use Instagram to promote their art to regular people who might potentially want to commission someone. It might be a good place for industry people to meet other artist but other then that ik how this is gonna work.
    Tho other sites that were mainly art sites have thrived so we just have to wait and see where this app goes.

    • @meikahidenori
      @meikahidenori 6 месяцев назад

      Here's the thing, if you ONLY want commission work from non artists you're better off using other sites. It's been like that since Deviant art - infact letting non artists on was the worst thing they ever did 😅 (after kicking out Jark the website coder & maintenance man of course). However, if you are looking for freelance work having a portfolio that separate from your timeline for potential studios and companies to look at is invaluable especially in a time where free website hosting is rare and unexessible to many and that is what Cara is set up for. Everything I've ever wanted in a social media app for artists IS Cara - timeline, folio and favourites all seperate so people looking at what I do can see it without having to hunt through my crap to find my artwork. Professionals and companies do look at blogs, websites & anything that allows them to see your body of work (and processes) if they're considering you for freelance or full employment. When they only see finished stuff you post up 2 thirds of the time they're not going to consider you hirable unless they can see something of you showing how you came up with your ideas.
      Honest opinion though? Cara isn't terrible as an alternative and has a nicer community there. Artists aren't using it to compete with one another as frankly when you all have your personal portfolio page you don't need to as you can show that to anyone interested in what you do. I get majority of my commission works from people in person so having something I can quickly show someone on my phone or tablet with everything I do is amazing, especially when it's not cropped to buggery to make it all fit.😅 however if you find something that works better for you use it. You shouldn't be limited to one site or platform in order to get work seen. I still have a blogger as useless as that might seem because I do mostly take NSFW commissions (we specialise in stuff for 'ladies' so it's subltle things mostly) when few others will and I can't show examples on many platforms. But yeah do what you find works for you.❤

    I'm currently posting on Tumblr and Cara lol, I've never been on Instagram, I tried to make an account a while ago, but I couldn't stand how much personal information they required.
    I love posting on Tumblr, because there isn't really an algorithm, and the only factors of my art getting seen is the quality mostly. If my art is good than people reblog and I get notes. The validation I get is purely in the hands of the users and not the hands of an algorithm overlord. But original work doesn't get seen.
    I like Cara cause it's quiet. It's my less prefered social media, simply because there are weird bots that make me uncomfortable, like I got DMed by some now deactivated account about whether or not I'm selling my art which freaked me out a bit. and there isn't really much socializing. It's pretty desolate, and it's just a bunch of people posting their art in silence. It's nice tho, much better for original art tho. I mostly post fan art and it gets around 9-30 likes on average. Which is fine, I post mostly for me anyways lol

      Yeah, but the creator of it literally fought for her life to sue someone who plagiarized her work, and she is very vocal about hating AI as many artists do as far aas I know, I don't think she will do that, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a veeeery small chance that she sells her app to some tech company that will scrap art from its users
      I don't think this would happen any times soon, and although I use Cara, I still feel safer glazing my art

    • @meikahidenori
      @meikahidenori 6 месяцев назад +1

      I don't have a huge fanbase so jumping to Cara from me was a risk free throw myself at it to see what happens. I've posted quite alot of work & found the more I engaged with other people as well the more people do come check you out in return, just like the OLD OLD days of Deviant Art when people used to engage with one another. Expecting to just post & not engage at all doesn't really get you far, part or the reason some artists are as popular as they are IS they take the time to foster a community whever they are. I think this 'popularity contest' garbage is killing what is so great about art and being a creative. You are not in competition with anyone on Cara like you are on twitter, tumblr or Instagram. You are not fighting to be seen, but rather there to make connections with other creative people. I think this is where many people seem to make mistakes 😂 art is NOT a competition and the fact most social media has made it so has ruined the amazing work that sites like DA and even Furry Affinity originally did to make a community that helped foster the growth and expose artists to the wider breadth of creatives out there. We need it back desperately.
