Gilbert Gottfried was my neighbor's brother. You wouldn't believe how shy he was, like an entirely different person than you'd imagine. But he was the absolute best brother and uncle, babysitting and doing laundry for them while his sister was at work teaching full-time. I was so out of the loop, I didn't even know he was a celebrity. And unless you were familiar with his work, you wouldn't know it either. That's how humble and unassuming he was. I'm sure he will be greatly missed.
He was incredibly shy. That is why he squinted his eyes and did that voice when he did his comedy.
He will be. Grew up laughing with him. Godspeed Gilbert.

Saw him walking in front of NYU Med Center one day when I worked there around 1989. He was muttering some lines like a neurotic comic guy. Oh that's right, he was one.
I remember once Bill Maher was asked which comic he thought deserved more renown than he got and Maher responded Gilbert Gottfried.
I think that literally everyone knowing who he was would equate to renoun.

Gilbert is one of my favorite comics of all time - I got to work with him once this year one of the greatest joys of my life.
Gilbert Gottfried passed away? Now I'm sad. 😔 He was onstage at The Comic Strip New York all the time when I worked there as a server in the late 1980s. A gentle, shy, and extremely funny man. RIP.

Comedians that are as free with their humor as my friends and I were on our walks home through the woods during 3rd grade are what I picture. No topic was off limits to us then and we would laugh ourselves sick.
America is great because of Comedians, and that’s very true.

I don't always agree with Bill's individual takes, but I always agree with his basic philosophy. That if we can't talk to each other about the issues, face to face, like adults... we're doomed.

Gilbert and Norm Macdonald were comedians for comedians. They were very elusive when it came to letting people to know the men behind the shows, according to many who were acquainted with them.
I understand that it was much the same with Phil Hartman. I miss him, especially 'The Anal Retentive Chef'. And never forget Chris Farley and John Belushi.
They say he was in character right until his death.

I didn't know Gilbert died. His roasts were always guaranteed to have me in tears from laughter. He could weave a bizarre tale and bring it right back around to absurdity like no one else. RIP.

Another thing about Gottfried. Although you can't criticize people for apologizing to keep from getting canceled, Gottfried wouldn't do it. He just doubled down.

Gilbert was an incredibly private guy who assumed his public comedy persona to allow himself be public and could get away with it due to his being harmless and charming.
I recorded an album with Gilbert this year one of the great joys of my life . Such a prince . Absolutely flawless. We are still mixing but I posted a small preview. He is absolutely genius. Such an enormous loss 🙈

Gilbert deserved more time on TV and movies.
He really didn't though. If it wasn't for him doing that annoying voice he would have mostly been reduced to voice overs. I'm sad he's gone. But fake love is the worse love. Nobody was rushing home or rushing out to theaters to see Gilbert Godfrey.

His stage voice was like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. Don't get me wrong, I thought he was brilliant, but that voice. I'm surprised Stuttering John didn't say anything about that. I was on his live feed when he found out. They were close and I felt so bad for him 😢
has he ever formally adressed why he would put on the voice we know him as? I cant imagine keeping that act up for as much as he does. The only clips we have of him that I even know of are always from stern, nowhere else.

circuit and on Norm McDonald’s RUclips channel, I’m Not Norm. He had no filter and a big hearty laugh. Another great one is gone too soon. I’ll miss him.
