Work hard, play hard.. Adirondacks; clearing land and fixing a cabin

  • In this video we go up to the family cabin in the Adirondacks. We start clearing land in preparation to build a tiny cabin, as well as start to fix the roof in the existing cabin. I will have a few more videos as we progress. This was a 4 day adventure. In the next video I will be milling up the lumber for the new cabin and bringing it up to build.

it took jesse's mom and I 3 years to build this cabin we even used a mule to pull out some of the logs he wasn't happy about it for the first log lol he thought something was chasing him but it was a good time it's nice to see jesse have an interest in the old place

I love this adventure, reminds me of mine in the Thousand Islands, where the guy I worked for had his and I'd help him open and close it and work during the summers maintaining the house and boat house. Later I would honeymoon on Tupper Lake. We had a cabin and I fished for walleyes in the lake. We had a great time there. Keep making memories as when you get old, that is all you have left.

Looks like it's gonna be an awesome series.
It makes me remember all the good times I had as a kid spending time with my Grandparents up at Grandpa's cabin that actually belonged to my Aunt Gloria and Uncle Jim.
He had a worm farm and sold them to fishermen.
Guess who turned the leaves and soil then collected the worms ?
    That was in northeast Michigan.
I moved back to Miami back in 83 after returning to Traverse City Michigan after my Coast Guard enlistment was up in Miami.
Your drone flyover shots remind of northern Michigan.
My old bones don't miss the winters tho.

It's Great when you finally at some time in your life come back to the memories and take a better interest in a family cabin, and Love the little dog, pearl. Gosh she is cute. My step Grandfather had a family cabin, that was located in Salem Wisconsin, and use to take me fishing with him at Paddock Lake, which back when I was very young was still a private lake... I remember the place well, even now, it sat on two lots. A regular Log cabin. One large bedroom with a closed in breezeway a natural wood burning fire place in a small living room and a large kitchen and small dining area. Sad thing, is I can never go back to it. He sold it, after all of his adopted kids moved out, and Moved into a condo with my grandmother, and the next people had it all torn down. Sigh... don;t even have ONE picture of it. So Keep the Memories, take plenty of video and pictures and always have them for your son. Maybe one day, as this stays in the family, as he gets older, he can stay her as well, and remember all that you did for the place...Just saying...

I have dreams of this place all of the time, and in my dreams It feels like I am actually living there, not just vacationing. That is the sole reason I took more interest this year to get that place going before it is really swept under the rug and sold. I really didnt have the time to go up there, but I made it anyways. Hoping to get up there this winter and start that build. I got the camper and its ready, now just need to finish helping Andrew and I will be all ready to go up. You are in a great position to develop this channel considerably. Not to interfere with your private life but have you thought of combining your and your ladies talents on this channels? It might become a real Thing. It's already clear she is known for Running and not afraid of work. I loved to see her on the roof sweeping and readying for the roof repair.
I also thought it might be good to take advantage of all your rocks and have stone walls in your build.
Save you dragging a lot of timber and rocks are easy and quick to build with.

Jesse, You will have to take a hike from the Stewart's Landing dam down the old pathway where the 6 ft. diameter wood stave and hoop penstalk fed water to the Sprite Creek Power station. The penstalk was 4 miles long and supported off the ground with concrete saddles placed on a railroad type bed for it's length. The old power house is nestled down in the bottom of the Sprite creek gorge and is a real sight to see. It has been abandoned for years but it has huge doors and windows . It was built in Gothic style architecture. Years back, I knew an old gent, whose job was to walk the penstalk and repair leaks. He said he carried a hatchet, a wrench to tighten the hoops and a leather shoulder sack with cedar shingles to make repairs.. It was about 6 years back that I was last down to the power plant. It is a really incredible place. The 4 mile penstalk and the dame gave the power plant 370' of head. which was highest in NYS at the time. I live on the south side of the Mohawk River and Stewart's Landing is about 35 miles due north of me. There is a lot of history and folk lore in them there hills and vallies.----------Loren

@@jmuller86 On the North Rd south of Stewart's Landing is Power Housr RD . It is a dead end with a privat residence at end. The road no longer extends past the residence that used to go down to the power hose. Might be a good idea to talk to the home owner, as I beleive the land is privatly owned.. Wgen I was there, I was conducting some business with him and he took me down to the power house.

Wow Jesse we are almost neighbors! Our place has been in the family since 1952. It was originally constructed around 1908 as a rental property on the resort. We travel to Canada Lake often to the general store there.
