  • Just checked and the 2017 version has the same ride-by-wire update that the GS and GT have which is in order to meet Euro 4. Some folks might prefer it with the 2 riding modes (rain, road)

    I rented one of these last year in the UK... and yes, that's a pretty good analysis of the whole package. The two additional things that really surprised me were:-
    A) Fuel economy was amazing
    B) The brakes were savage. Never been on a bike with Brembos before and it was like hitting a wall + it had 300 miles on it and some bedding in was still required.

      +Christian Weller thanks for the info about the economy. Didn't really pay attention to it on the day we had it, so good to know. You're not wrong about the brakes! As I said in the video, I had to keep it to the rear brake because the Mrs was getting thrown forward every time I even tickled the front brakes. Bet they're great once you're used to the feel!

    I have this model in blue / black. I have completed 25000km.I think this was pitched as an entry level sports bike [peak torque / HP is 8000rpm] but its really an excellent all-rounder that is hard to fault. The 90hp twin is more than adequate as the bike is light and nimble, and it has useful power delivery from 3000rpm , and then gets another set of legs and attitude at 4500rpm. Good round town and superb on open road. Mid-range engines that you can rev out a bit are awesome fun on open road / twisties. Very economical , I've done 450km on a tank [open road].BMW styling is not to everyone's taste, and the exhaust sounds awful, until you hit 4500rpm, but overall this bike is so competent that its almost a bit boring.

    I owned one for a year. Sold it cos of vibey bars at 80mph plus. That was unexceptable for me. Bought Duke 790 instead.
    SUMMARY of my F800R 2016
    Brakes really great. Brembos big. Better than Dukes.
    Engine & exhaust sounded shit & no character.
    Riding pos good
    Headlight LED amazing. Turns night into day.
    Very Quick at the top end actually. 110mph plus no problem.
    Gearbox OK. Suspension very good.
    Loved the tyre pressure monitor and the right angle tyre valves.
    Loved the look of it too.
    Waiting for the F850R. That’ll be epic cos engine with 270 crank in F850gs is a beaut.
    But hated the hi frequency vibey bars.
    Could’ve lived with no soul engine.
    Duke 790 has no bad vibes and the engine has bucketloads of character even though I’m not a KTM brand fan.

    The bike is really good but the lack of power and acceleration makes me mad. Mine is 2011 model

      I had a transalp 700 (68 horse power from the factory) f800r has 87 hp but...I feel that my transalp acceleration were faster maybe it's the gear box... Idk but i regret getting the f800r cos i thought i would be more fun to ride

    Nice review mate, just got back from Portugal myself. How much did the hire cost you?

    • @motobob
      @motobob  7 лет назад +1

      Hmmmm can't remember but not too pricey. Think it was about 60 or 70 quid. Pretty good for such a nice bike

    Managed to get a test ride on an A2 version, as long as the confirmation from BMW comes through with regards to if i'm covered by their insurance or not. :D

      I was actually surprised by how good it was. The suspension was the thing that really stood out to me - buttery smooth but didn't really dive under braking. That said, I haven't ridden many bikes with USD forks before. It's a good motor too and perfect bike for getting around and about and tearing up some lanes. Let me know how you get on if you manage to get a test ride!

      MOTOBOB For just over 8k you can have it specced with electronic suspension, rider modes, heated grips, and all the bells and whistles. Seems like good value and a good torquey engine too. I like it because its quirky and it sounds good with an aftermarket pipe on too. Stunt ride at Festival of Speed yesterday was on one and it sounded great. Yeah I will do. think I shouldn't have a problems. Just got to the villa were staying at in Portugal👌🏽👌🏽

    How tall are you? I'm 6,1 and wondering if this bike is gonna be comfortable for me. I currently own ER6N and I do feel little bit cramped.

    • @motobob
      @motobob  6 лет назад +1

      I’m about 5’9 and it was a little tall for me, so for you it would probably be perfect. Def more space than the ER

      I’m 6’1 and it’s fine. I did get a peg lowering kit to give my knees more room. Great bike I really love it.had it for 2 years now and I can’t find a better bike for the money!

      I'm 6' and find my 2015 F800R really comfortable. I don't feel cramped at all. The only complaint I've got is the seat. After about three hours in the saddle I get a sore bum. More to do with my bum as I don't have a lot of padding on my bum. It's more noticeable when I wear jeans instead of leather pants. I'm seriously thinking of getting a comfort seat which should give me even more leg room. By the way, the F800R is a fantastic open road bike. More than enough power, you can pack it up and brakes and handling are excellent. I've fitted a MRA screen which gives pretty good wind protection.

    Hi Bob! How does the engine vibration feels compared to ER6?

    • @motobob
      @motobob  7 лет назад +2

      +Tauetaue Slowpoke hey mate! It's relatively smooth at everyday revs, but we stopped on the motorway at a toll booth and I took it from 0-80 as fast as I could within reason (i.e. not chucking my wife off the back). The power really picks up at 5000-6000 revs but so does the vibration! I think the rev limited is at about 9000 whereas the ER6 will rev a bit more and is a bit smoother. So in summary: smooth enough at low revs but a bit vibey when you give it some gas 🤘
