One of the most underrated and overlooked guitarists...of all time, the great Alvin Lee. I know I’m not the only person who feels strongly about that either! RIP great one!!!
Lee was a legend....I loved that he almost always figured out a way to cram two solos into every song. The man had such a distinctive style and sound...I found his solos mesmerizing.
Saw him live five times, twice with TYA, once with Ten Years Later and twice solo. Fantastic shows every time.
I absolutely agree! Love listen to their songs. We was great!
Absolutely, I don't know how anyone could call themselves a rock fan and not have Alvin on their short list of the greatest... RIP Alvin
Saw them open for BB KING & LED ZEPPLIN IN '68 at the Aragon Ballroom. QUITE a show, all 3 bands did 2 sets. We stayed to the end,5:00 a.m. & walked down to Lake Michigan with a few hundred people tripping balls & watched the sun. He said it all at the end STOP THE FUCKING WAR & that IS what we were fighting in the streets for. WE DID THAT!
Little known Alvin Lee and Ten Years After blew the crowd away at Woodstock with “Going Home”. Alvin’s guitar licks stunned the world.
Actually Alvin Lee made the statement "I'm going home by------ helicopter!!!!!
Back in the day, this wasn't just another song to us....it was an anthem
Alvin Lee was one of those people who were born to play guitar. This was a great great band.
Please God, tell me why nobody makes music like this anymore.
They do but the powers that be won't showcase them. Remember in the music industry a few people controls the narrative.
In that era Vietnam united us- now we are all divided over BS
Amen brother.✌
Because people don't put the time into becoming exceptional... they want to let the machines make them sound good.
@@scottmorris7546 it did not unite us. Many hated and still hate those rich anti war kids who were bothering people and conscripted veterans just because they were disgruntled with teenage angst. Then they used the guise of activism to cover their asses. Disgusting.
This song is so relevant even today!!! 🎵🎼🎶🎸🥁🎧🎹🎙🤘🤘💜💜💜
Hi Hari, This was actually from the 70's (1971). Ten Years After were a British blues rock band. This was their only big hit. Alvin Lee was an amazing guitarist. Their performance of "I'm Going Home" at Woodstock is brilliant. That's one you should check out.
Yep, and make sure the Woodstock performance is the entire song, not the abridged one.
I think Harri did react to "I'm going home" at Woodstock and he reacted to the long/whole song
I thought this was from 1973. But wow. This is the album that was the gateway drug for me. But I was really young like in junior high school just shortly after their heyday and a lot of my friends older brothers and sisters had albums that I could borrow and so I kind of worked my way back through cricklewood green and Shhheeeshhh and all the way back to the old stuff. And then forward all the way to the end in 1974 I think, positive vibrations which the initial reaction was people were unhappy because this was their last album and they were breaking up. And they said that a lot of the songs were kind of depressing. But that was the initial reaction. Like me, a lot of people regard that final album as a masterpiece. But I think all of us that are 10 years after and Alvin Lee fans definitely think of this as the crowning Masterpiece at least in terms of radio play and punch.
I liked the Positive Vibrations album very much. Definitely underrrated.
@@Dusty999 Whoever posted the abridged version to RUclips needs to be drawn and quartered.
You got it Harri, a masterpiece for sure. Alvin Lee on that brilliant guitar.
Ten Years After was an incredible band that didn’t get enough recognition! Alvin Lee was such a great guitarist 🎸 may he Rest In Peace☮️. I watch the video from Woodstock & am always blown away & my day is always better after watching Alvin Lee & TYA. I send thanks to those who recorded / filmed these bands from decades ago, we wouldn’t have these fantastic videos & Reactions happening 💎🥰
We played this in our band. If you are a fan of Ten Years After, the Cricklewood Green album is amazing. I was 16 and hooked. RIP Alvin Lee. Underrated but loved by true fans.
I always loved the angelic virtuosity of the guitar work on this song, combined with the beauty of the lyrics.
I am 66 and was lucky to grow up on the greatest music ever.
TEN YEARS AFTER, "I'D LOVE TO CHANGE THE WORLD". One of the most iconic songs of Woodstock Era. Guitarest, and Vocalist Alvin Lee. Like so many other band musicians that have passed away, and are forever missed. It reminds me to be grateful that for all the timeless recordings for this fan of 58 years, the wonderful rock music. 🎶 ✌.
A truly great song from a great album, and they were my favorite act at Woodstock. Alvin Lee can shred! Great choice.✌️❤️🎶
They were formed in 1966 10yrs after Elvis came on the scene, Thus 10 Years After. They actually formed in 1960 but had a few different names before 1966.
56’ was when Jailhouse Rock was all the rage. I thought it was cool when I found that out since I was born that year.
One of my favorites- of all time, for many reasons! The sentiment of the song/lyrics, instrumental arrangement, vocals/harmonies, and guitar solo- total control of sustained notes- BEAUTIFUL! Thank you for the history of their name- COOL!
Alvin Lee was one of the MOST unsung hero's in guitar monsterness ! This band led me AWAY from the Beatles and Stones and took me on a ride I would not change if I could. So many great rock band sprung from bands like this. If you want a taste of guitar work at it's finest, check out "Uncle Jam" from the same album. It was just a short filler track but had some of the tastiest licks ever.... IMHO ;)
Alvin Lee, one of the truly great guitarist of his time. He could shred before that was a thing and his blues licks are quick and inventive. So sad we lost him a few years back.
I can't tell you how happy I am to see the joy in your face? I really want so many younger people hear this.
This song is so great and tight, no wasted words. Alvin Lee gets straight to the point. Even the line about bees making honey and the sky is sunny, heavy stuff because I think he is saying that amidst all of this suffering and turmoil, the world continues on as usual. That’s why he doesn’t know what to do. Simple but brilliant.
Nicely put.
YES!!! Love some Alvin Lee, phenomenal guitarist!!!
The name was a tribute to Elvis Presley. They adopted the name in 1966 - Ten Years After - Elvis's success in 1956
Great review 👍🏻. This song definitely takes you there. Surreal. Cosmic. Never gets old.
An iconic song,by an iconic band, with an iconic lead guitarist…..Wow !
British band that I was so lucky to be informed of when I was very young and Junior high. By people older than myself. But then I loved it loved it loved it and as I bought more records I bought more of theirs as well. I got to saw him about 8 years after wait a minute less than that after this album, this is actually not the 60s this is the early 70s by the way. So I saw him around 1980 or 81 I guess. Wow amazing. Everybody in that fan was a monster. And they have such a huge catalog and it's largely blues rock but if you look within that genre, it's just one gem after the other. There was something really magical about this band. And they could rock really hard if they needed to. So many great albums but if you love this one, check out other songs from this album. There's a playlist on youtube. In fact, it's not exactly a concept album like Pink Floyd or rush, but it definitely has a theme to it and so this song is actually halfway through side A of the record album. It's surrounded by good songs and the second side is also really great songs. Each side of the album ends with a total banger. And they both start off with bangers except they approach them and really innovative ways for the time which they had already done before on previous albums.
Such a great song by such great musicians!
Always a favorite with me love Ten Years After
Alvin Lee is one of the best...fact!
Alvin Lee one of the greatest guitar Gods of all time!
💯 agree
The guitarists is Alvin Lee, he's also singing, Alvin Lee is an English Guitarists, one of the greatest, I still mourn his untimely death, he passed during relatively minor surgery in Spain, I cried so much.
Alvin was a gift from god. Cheers from Hungary.
I was in high school when this came out and I absolutely fell head over heels in love with it. One of my all time favorite songs, brings back so many memories. Hey Harri you gotta check out them doing Going Home from Woodstock. So amazing! Alvin Lee just lets it rip!!
As a guitar player myself I really appreciate the words and the guitar in this.
You finally got there with this band! You got to give 50,000 Miles Beneath My Brain a blast...
I Like your show, you are a very genuine person, ten years after name--The band changed its name to Ten Years After in 1967. The name was a homage to the emergence of Elvis Presley about a decade earlier
We did change the world, everyone was getting along and then they change them back in the 90s.
I haven't heard this in a minute 10 years after thats all I'll admit to thank you very much ha ha great decade yeah
An all time fav! ❤️
alvin makes that gibson cry and sing. i'm 75 and was lucky enough to be a teen when this music first came out. when i listen today i feel just like i did as a kid.
Harri, you’re definitely right this is a masterpiece
It's so good it almost left you speechless! I can relate. Great honest reaction.
The rest of the album is tremendous as well. Great band
five stars - just great - ultracool!
Harri, "Sugar the Road" should be next! I think you'd love it. Always love hearing this song.
Brilliant song.
One of my favorite songs from back then
What a song!❤️❤️
You’re a good man. You see the love in that song, but the damn fun, too!
Tax the rich, feed the poor, till there are, no rich no more. What a great lyric.
Dude I love what you are doing. Your energy to me is so positive and energizing. You make my days better. Please keep doing what makes you happy because it makes people like me happy as well. Be well.
Great Band, \watch them in Sheffield in 1971 Alvin was a class act.
Great reaction! Alvin Lee was a masterful guitarist. You will have to listen to the Bluest Blues for another great song by him.
You have listened to Alvin Lee before. Woodstock - Im Going Home. You just dont know he was in Ten Years After.
A Great Song!!!!
Alvin Lee went on to have several solo albums. My favorite piece is 'The Bluest Blues'. Beautiful song, great guitar rif!
One of my absolute favorite songs!
Omg never knew the name yet Love Love this Song. Great Memories again & Thank You ❤️
I bought my fist Ten Years After album when I was 15, 1970. Alvin Lee was my guitar hero, and still is. R.I.P.
Outstanding group from England.
The follow up LP from this one, called Rock and Roll Music to the World (1972) is even better.
I truly believe that the world needs to hear these songs.
Thank you Harri! I was one year old when this was released. Perhaps one of the first songs I ever heard? Not sure.
I always love ❤️ to hear your interpretation Harri
Another fantastic one Miss B. 🎸
Great song, and philosophy! One of my favorites- of all time! Love the guitar solo- love the controll, of his sustain on the electric guitar 🎸
Harri...I watch a LOT of reaction videos, and enjoy a lot of them...but, yours have such insight into the music, the lyrics, and most importantly the feeling of the songs. Such great work...I could watch your reactions all night long (and I often do!)
Harri, where have you been all your life to have missed all the great music you react to?
Ten Years After was the first concert I ever went to. (Lynard Skynad was the "Warm up band") 1975
Harri jamming to that guitar!
So fantastic, loved it!
One of my favorite songs of all time. Whoever designed the arrangement for this was absolutely inspired. And Alvin Lee's guitar work is not only great, but appropriate to the song.
One of my favorite songs of ever. Just gorgeous in every way. People have interpreted the lyrics in many ways but to me it's simply about how two sides who protest and complain and many just throw up their hands and say let someone else do it. Seriously one of the all-time classics.
The great Alvin Lee. Got to see the band twice, almost 25 years apart & they were still good in the late 90's.
Alvin Lee !! " bluest blues" one of the best ever !!
A classic masterpiece
Alvin Lee was the guitarist and they also played at Woodstock quite well in fact keep up the good work Harry love these songs you pick
Alvin Lee one of my favorites and an all time underrated guitar player.
Check out his Woodstock performance; lookout for the "Watermelon" 😊🎸☮️💕
A very good song.
Awesome reaction Harri.
I'm so glad you got it right from the beginning.
Alvin Lee is one of the best guitarists that many haven't heard or forget to add to the list.
This one is definitely a Masterpiece.
When you talk about great guitarist, Alvin Lee was top level! Check TYA at Woodstock "69"! I'm Going Home is one you don't want to miss Harry! RIP Alvin!
Rock was never better.
You really have to see the live version of this song.
Oh just wait! It's going to teach a groove for sure!
Incredible song ha Harri!!! Wow 🤩 unique gem here.
Alvin Lee was the mad man on lead guitar. My fav guitarist. Died on the operating table during a routine tonsillectomy. So sad. But look him up. Fantastic talent.
Grande Alvin !!!!!!!!1 QEPD
Alvin Lee. Ten Years After. My absolute favourite band since I first heard them in 1970. They were quite obscure in little old backwards Salmon Arm.
SALMON ARM ?
@@kevinsmith4429 An idyllic little town on the Shuswap Lake in the interior of British Columbia
@@vansongs Shuswap Lake. You guys have some great names up there Little differant here in Texas,I live about five miles from a town called Gun Barrel City,no shit. Lived in a very beautiful, idyllic town right on the Pcific Ocean called Half Moon Bay between San Francisco & Sanra Cruz.
'10 Years After' named after 'the day the music died', when Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper went down in a plane crash in 1958.
I didn't know that.
It gives the name of the band incredible meaning and tribute.
Lyrics seeing into future, pollution, over population, rich, poor divide, wars sounds all to familiar. Love like a man great track, 50, 000 000 miles beneath my brain really blow your mind! ☮️✌️🧐
THANK YOU Ms Blondie (if I got it right) wonderful choice !!
I second that emotion, miss blondie!
I'm so glad you loved it, and you got it right 🎵✌️🎶
One of the best concerts I've ever attended was Alvin Lee and Ten Years After. This got a ton of radio play, but it was far from their best work.
Alvin Lees a beast on guitar check out I’m going home at Woodstock!
This came out in 71. Speaks today. Remember? Ten Years After. Fantastic! Alvin Lee used to come to Detroit and jam with Ted Nugent in the Early 70 s. Leslie West, The Great Jim McCarty. Where were you in 72.🌅✌️
The Quad mix is awesome.
Hi Harribest, you have won me over!! Please check out the Bluest Blues by Alvin Lee with a guitar solo with the late George Harrison. For years I thought Ten Years After were an America band.....and I thought I knew my music back in the day. As other have mentioned check out also Alvin Lee with Ten Years After at Woodstock in 1968.....one of those special moments.
Thanks Miss Blondie ! This whole LP is one of my favorites, their LP "Watt" is also great ! Thank you dear Harri ! ✌👍🙏
So glad you loved it Ginny 🎵💜🎶
Thank you Hari.
"Let the Sky Fall" Harri! Another great hit from this iconic band! Thanks, man! ✌🏻
Thank you, HarriBest, for your marvelous Reaction. If you dig 60's Faith Music, be sure to check out TOMMY JAMES AND THE SHONDELLS - CRYSTAL BLUE PERSUASION.
Alvin Lee is right up there with Peter Green as my favorite guitarist...Both have sublime talent....!!!
Great reaction, Harri.
Ten Years After didn't make great songs, they made great albums, absolutely no filler to be found with Ten Years After. Alvin Lee was an Animal
Classic 👌
