Stephen Colbert brings his signature satire and comedy to THE LATE SHOW with STEPHEN COLBERT, the #1 show in late night, where he talks with an eclectic mix of guests about what is new and relevant in the worlds of politics, entertainment, business, music, technology and more. Featuring bandleader Louis Cato and “THE LATE SHOW band,” the Peabody Award-winning and Emmy Award-nominated show is broadcast from the historic Ed Sullivan Theater. Stephen Colbert took over as host, executive producer and writer of THE LATE SHOW on Sept. 8, 2015.
He's been saying it for 20 years: "Y'all don't really hear me, Y'all just wanna dance"
He also said he "can't afford to not record" and then disappeared for nearly 2 decades
Just love how Key & Peele called it years ago. 🙂
YES!@@njyo The flute music at the end of the sketch! Golden.
Wait, he wants us to pay him AND to listen to him preach, but not dance?
Pfffft, that's a lot of privilege. What is this, the plot of Footloose?
I just hope he does the whole "whoop de whoop/bleep de bleep" thing!!!??
I work in retail in NYC and I met him helping him in my store….
He was one of the nicest most humble customers Ive ever helped (famous or not) . Wish him all the best, forever.
His new album comes with a flute
I worked in a hotel around 2008 he was very nice man.
Forever ever?
Worked in a vegan restaurant downtown and he was so chill and quiet and humble. He had a little note pad out and was just chillin n taking notes.
@@jroddupe....forever ever?
In appearance and manner, these two men could not be more different: the energetic, buttoned-down talk show host and the laid-back artist who literally goes where the wind blows him. Yet they had a real conversation about his craft. I truly enjoyed it!
Fine observation Anne. Colbert is such a gifted and emotionally intelligent interviewer, listener and "appreciater", he can connect with anyone, even ... Nikki Minaj 🤣
You must mean the other Stephen Colbert from the other show
I can't say I appreciate what you're insinuating ANNE...
Anne stated precisely what she meant. You talk in riddles PEDAKIN... (why are we doing these dramatic endings?)@@Pedakin
Stephen is far more introspective and nerdy than his public persona lets on.
6:40 "I have two holes, so it's like.......PAUSE."🤣Gotta love the impromptu handling of Andre 3000 along with expressing his art in music without Lyrics. I can listen to this man all day
I was cracking up! 😂
@shanabrown1653 me too 😂😂
Bootyhole + mouth = 2 holes. Checks out.
Full on dropped me with the PAUSE!!! 😂
Stephen ain’t know what he meant he just clapped with the audience 😂
As someone who grew up with Outkast on the radio, and played flute in Junior High, this makes me so nostalgic and happy. I love that as time goes on, more and more artists are feeling comfortable putting out the music they want to, instead of always catering to the record companies demands. That's how the real art is made. I'm so excited to listen to this album now 💜
I respect André’s statement about it sounds so great without words…our world is so word heavy these days so I’m happy to have a passionate instrumental album ❤
If only it actually sounded great, or even remotely good... He can literally jack off on the stage and get just as many audiences, although what he's doing with the flute isn't much different from that.
completely agree
Tell me you're subscribed to the Lofi girl without telling me you're subbed to the Lofi Girl
Interesting to say "word heavy," I hadn't thought of it that way. I listen to talk shows, podcasts, audiobooks, and sometimes complex music that I'm trying to decipher. I'm fully aware that I hardly let my mind rest during the day 😂 Every night for decades I play Steve Roach ambient music (admittedly I'll still watch a movie maybe, while playing the ambience in the background) but in general, I love having slow, flowing, sometimes tribal music to just relax to.
True indeed. Brother Andre gave us all a beautiful gift, I truly enjoy that project.
I love that the band played Coltrane’s Love Supreme for Andre’s entrance. Wish they could have kept going!
This is the only thing
Was looking for this comment. Resolution.
They really nailed it.
Beat me to it
0:23 That A Love Supreme/Acknowledgement intro for André 3000 was perfect
How????? He couldn’t touch John Coltrane with a ten-foot pole. You celebrity worshipers are *INSANE!* 😵💫
I agree. Great choice.
@@hereforit2347bruh all he said was that the intro was perfect ain’t nobody comparing Andre to Coltrane that’s something u made up in ur head lil bro
@@castaholic8665 preach!
@@castaholic8665: It *wasn’t* perfect because the intro went from good music (Coltrane’s) to garbage (Andre’s *terrible* flute playing). It didn’t go. It didn’t fit. It was all BAD.
Andre is such an original. Walked up there, holding a flute, just being himself. Love him. Havent heard the album yet.
Yes
Listen to it. Its awesome
Andre is a living legend. So laid back, so real and so creative.
Exactly
Any one else catch Thai language?
André 3000 spoke Thai when saying thank you for the water: kop khun krub (ขอบคุณครับ).
Stephen thought he was talkin about a cup
I think Stephen understood tbh@@christopherfoley4355
Yes! I thought I was hearing things, you heard that too?
Yep!!!!
caught me off guard too hahah, came out of nowhere
Somebody has to be fired! 15 years!!! OutKast dropped their first album in 1994! How did they fuck that up? It’s cool 3000 moved on from that but it has to be hella annoying they didn’t do their basic research on him before the interview.
@@corroloI mean. Why 2009? What significance does that year have with the duo?
That's because with some people "you" don't really exist until "they" discover you!
It because they stopped as a group in 2007. 1992 to 2007 is 15 years. What Colbert/his researchers missed was they reunited in 2014.
It was a error but damn you want to fire someone over that? You do know that people have kids and mouths to feed, right? Why do people always rush to ruining an employee's life because of a human error?
@@kellyfegerrelax
I have no problem with him not doing any bars on his album just instrumental music 🎶 that's cool with me every artist evolves with their music
04:30 - 06:06 ... His explanation of "where the wind blew him" in his music... And, the nod to fellow musicians... Just beautiful... Go, Andre!
I know, he’s just so chill and down to earth! ❤❤❤
I love hearing other artists describe their process. And this is a very thoughtful man.
Love Andre 3000. He's the GOAT. Also have to show Colbert some love for giving Andre the chance to articulate his ideas despite some brief moments of thoughtful dead air. Great clip.
He is an amazing artist and I’m honoured to have lived in the same time to appreciate him raw
3000 has always been in his own lane. One of the most original artists ever. Gipp from the Goodie Mob said he gave you some bars if you read the song titles .
Stephen and his team ask wonderful questions in this interview. They really let Andre shine as a guest.
Most definitely. He’s a terrific interviewer.
Agreed!!!!
The questions were good but Colberts reaction to the questions and the way he responds is so half assed and barely engaged..
@@youngconfidence8666 and a tad condescending. dont know how he is considered terrific
Barely let the man get a word out of his mouth
When he said "More than that".. Just bring alot of RESPECT FOR HIS WORK! And BRINGS A WARM FEELING FOR OUTKAST 💯✨
"I have two holes... pause." 😁
I said “pause” around the same time he did… 😂
😂LMFAO @ 6:38😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lmao
Pause on talk show is KARAAAZY 😂
this man is an artist at his truest core. he doesn’t do what is expected of him but what he wants. i wish to have the same expressive freedom as him
They really knocked it out the park with this one. appreciate the rare look at Andre
Saying that album was anticipated is an understatement
Always liked this guy. But this is a new deeper level of respect. Why would any person who has done what he has done not just follow their own path? How much money and fame does anyone need? It brings you nothing. This guy has decided to do what he actually loves. It's so sad how unique that is. I also think he might end up doing very well out of this. The album is excellent by the way.
I love this comment! 😊
Why did I just laugh sooo hard when Andre’ said “pause” lol…I can imagine the audience didn’t have a clue what “pause” meant…and that made it even funnier lol 😆
Mister Grammy Got Guts, It’s nice to see someone stick on their own Value
That that moment between him and the band @ 5:39 is the coolest ISH I've ever seen on late night TV .
I hope Andre also goes on Fallon so he can do a jam session with the roots.
👍 They can call it
#Andre3000's_RootyTootyQuest&flutie
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂
Lmaoooo
Black thought should whoop your ass lol 😂
Awesome 😂
I just love how he keeps that thing ON HIM
I will always show up for both individuals of Outkast. It's so good to see André, seems like he is feeling the creative call again.
My ♥️ wiggled when he mentioned Pharoah Sanders and Roland Kirk. 😊
He is so attractive and so organic. I love that
He's the embodiment of music and calm...a total legend. 💙
I feel that way about Jon Batiste
I love and appreciate everything about this man
His new album is beautiful and inspiring. Absolutely loved it and play it while I paint.
I remember "Snoop Lion" and I mean, that dude is great at marketing. But I watched André's performance and that felt far more authentic. He isn't changing his image, he isn't trying to sell more merch, he even put a warning on the album to let unawares know it's different. This is clearly a work of passion and experience, not of anythinnnnng else.
That whole album was like mildew.
It just grew on me in the places I didn't expect.
Mildew 😂. Maybe more like lavender, or jasmine
Actually in indigenous taiwanese music you get people playing two flutes with their noses - I've been lucky to witness this live before, pretty cool.
Great interview with a great artist!
"i swear, i really wanted to make a "rap" album but this is literally the way the wind blew me this time." By Fall Out Boy
Andre has been through some rough stuff, and I think you can see that in his demeanor. I can only imagine the stress of putting out a new album compounded by it being a different genre than his fans are used to, has got to be making it even more stressful.
He is such a talented musician, I am sure he is making some great flute music.
I look forward to watching his performance next.
What stuff has he gone through
Just bought this album and I can't wait to dig in!!!
Liar
If you like Andre 3000 watch him In the movie revolver. Incredible and criminally underrated film
5:32 / 7:11
We should all be grateful that André 3000 chose flute and not triangle for his new album.
0:24 That was a great rendition of John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme" for walk-on music, and especially in New Orleans style...would love to hear a full version of that!
You might enjoy the Mark de Clive-Lowe version and/or its remix
@@Hsterminator I'm aware of his, but I think my version might be slightly better, although that's my biased opinion, but you may agree are hearing it 😉
How Andre still looking like a knock out. Loved his humble appearance on the show. We missed you
Maybe one day it will come full circle and André will put out an album warning people "no flute!"
I think it's brave sticking a flute in your mouth, in public.
Playing Trane's A Love Supreme as the walk-on music is quite apropos.. Well played Mr. Cato & band!
I wonder if Stephen knows just how important Andre is to music fans. He is a legend. Not sure if Stephen fully understands that or doesn’t let on since he is probably not a super fan himself but .. Andre is the man. Great to see him out there again.
Andre’s intro music was “A Love Supreme” by Coltrane. Great choice.
I agree. Great choice.
5:48 There are no reeds on flutes! Classical flutes are categorized as woodwind instruments, yes, but unlike the clarinet, sax, or oboe, there is no reed. You literally just blow across it like blowing over the top of a bottle. The flutes Andre is playing are more native/ethnic, but also probably have no reed. Just clearing up Stephen's (and anyone else's) misconception.
His inner peace mooves my soul!! I love you Dre!!
It's a strange but beautiful album.
5:47: There is no reed in a flute. Clarinets have a reed, and saxophones, and oboes and bassons have twin reeds, not flutes.
3k probably didn't feel the need to correct him...
What a great guy! Nothing like the prancing sprite in the Key&Peele OutKast reunion sketch.
Always loved Andre 3000!!! A true creative genius!!! Never a big fan of hip hop/ rap but really loved Outcast!
This was such a great conversation!
Andre 3000 is doing his own thing, and we're all about it!
I'd really enjoy just sitting and having a long conversation with him. Very real person.
Andre is the type of guy, that if you didn't know who he was and you saw him on the street, you would know that he is a famous hip-hop artist from the looks.
I love him. ❤️
A member of outkast for 15 years!?!?....bro ...their debut album came out 30 years ago!
This dude is on another plane
This album is crazy. Just beautiful.
Track 1: The Longest Track Name You've Ever Heard of In Your Entire Life.
I get the impression that fame has not affected Andre in the slightest. He seems so genuine and down to earth for being one of if not the best to ever do it.
30 yrs. outkast 30 yrs.
Outkast / Founded
1992 EDIT: Like 32 yrs plus or minus whenever they broke up (WTF). for sure 25 yrs. gotta be friends still. ANDRE 3000 and BIG BOI ... legends. Like big pun, jay-z, big l, andre nickatina, gza, ghostface killah, prodigy, and so many more... like 8ball and MJG.
Lol someone should tell Steven (at 5:50) that there is no “reed on a flute”!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😁
Right!? and he was sooo confident with it too! smh
@@antnedouglas6183 haha yes! I think André 3000 thought about correcting him but out of respect chose to not embarrass him. That was sweet of him to let Steven roll with it ;)
Thanks, flute players in the audience probably flinched at that as well.
Andre is the GOAT 🐐
Chill he dope but he ain’t no goat
Andre 3000 rockin the pin stripe bib overalls and a hoodie ❤, that’s been my go to for comfort for years👍
It's a good look and comfy
Not Colbert’s best interview, you can tell he doesn’t understand the level of artist Andre is
This man’s a living legend
The wooden flute that he has is modeled after the Lakota siyotanka... The flutes with the head of the bird at the end
Commercial questions for an authentic artist. I'd love to see more interviews with other hosts that have done more research on Andre.
Not gonna lie, the dude seems depressed ... glad he's taking the brave step to share this other side of himself with the world ... what an artist ... kudos Andre! 👏😎
Maybe his cold is making him low energy
He said he has a cold...tf.
Andre is super attractive, original, artistic, and is discovering the flow of his mature and introspective years. It's so good to see an artist change with years, and not try to fit into what the next generation wants.
The wind been blowing him all over different cities with his flute, that's what he's been doing, like being a street musician, amazing.
A true artist who follows wherever his creativity takes him, regardless of what others think. Much respect.
You can feel how withdrawn and thoughtful André is. Maybe you also noticed, at minute 0:56 he said thank you in Thai, apparently spent a certain amount of time there and learned a lot about himself and life. Just a nice guess. 😁🙏
I've been resisting listening to it. I couldn't get it out of my head that he wasn't rapping, then on Saturday my playlist chose him right after my meditation and it was beautiful. I listened to the entire album. I was actually a little sad it ended. Afterwards I sat in complete silence and just felt the residual energy of the moment.
I'm looking forward to having another moment with it and seeing what it evokes within me again.
We need an OutKast reunion please
Can't wait for André its over 9000.
He's a true, real, zen king just living his musical life.
I have loved this man since I was a teenager, so proud of his evolution and can't wait for him to come home to the ATL,. See you March 2nd 💙💙💙💙
his new album is beautiful. we'll never have another artist quite like him. great to see him back again :)
0:28 my ninja Stephen Colbert with the natural handshake swag adaptation; you get an A+ my G!! ✊🏿🤝🏿😎 #andrethreestacks #benjaminandre
Andre is like a modern day Wes Mongomery, or Charlie Christian, unfettered by musical boundries, free like the wind
LOVE ANDRE3000🐐🎤 AND STEPHEN COLBERT🐐 😂😂😂 HE SO AUTHENTIC ANF FUNNY ❤
Andre got so old. That means I’m old too since I was listening to him and Big Boi since the first album. Sniff sniff😢 my youth
He has a Shamanic vibe to him. It's beautiful to see ❤
The way that opening handshake had Colbert lol
André 3000: I already have two holes. ... PAUSE!
🤣♥
Man, Andre 3000 emits such a laidback coolness or sumffin haha. He’s always struck me as a weirdly interesting & humble dude.
Stephen is true gentleman and brilliant conversationalist. Andre 3000 is a musical and spiritual journeyman. I loved the entire interview.
Damn his outfit looks like something you coulda seen him in in the 90s and even then he woulda kilt it!
I admire this man so much, since i first got to know his music in Outkast so many years ago. André 3000 trully is a treasure
As a Music Producer I respect him for making a album without words. His album is amazing!
As a robotics programmer/pizza maker I respect him for making an album without words. His album is delicious!
i LOVE this man so much🥰🥰🥰
Lovvvve this album❤
