@@hettel_visual lol I'm sure that's certainly a possibility... none the less, a lot of people are now on the prowl for this genre. Of course, it'll spawn an influx of BS theatrical copycats that just want to be famous for parading around making ambient music something Pop culture can digest and it'll work. But, for the real pure ambient artists, it'll bring us some shine from a lot more people.

For those wondering this is a Native American block flute, also known as a Spirit Flute or First Nations Flute. It is a 6 hole double chambered instrument that is diatonically tuned. The second flute is the same kind of flute but is known as a drone flute - one pipe has holes and allows for melody while the other is tuned to a drone note (some flutes allow for that note to be adjusted). Its nice to see this going mainstream, as many of us in the community surrounding this instrument have believed in its potential for a long time.

@@MISNM0 typing from phone so will be typos but here is my experience as someone who went to post secondary for this instrument and worked with it for a decade. Nomenclature changes depending on your location and its hyper regional. In Canada acseptable terms for the PEOPLE of Canada (not the instrument) that were present prior to european colonization are: Indigenous, First Nations, Métis, Inuit (plural form of the word) and occasionally Aboriginal though it is far less common. All thse terms mean different things and are not interchangeable. In Canada the word Aboriginee is used to speak about Australias first people. In the USA and South American countries the nomenclature will change. Regarding the instrument its even more complex as this variety of flute evolved from south American notch style flute that also all have different names! Generally names go by region (he calls is Mayan flute for example). I can't begin to list all the names for this wonderful instrument but check out flutopedia it has all the info!

I’ve made these instruments for over 30 years. They’ve been made by human hands for at least 30,000 years. Bear bones. Bird bones. Bamboo. Now I use natural stalks … sunflower, agave, and branches. There are several native flute festivals scattered around the country. Mostly tuned in minor pentatonic keys, these instruments are diverse. Jazz and blues are my favorite jams. That F# drone flute Andre 3000 plays, is directly connected to the heart. Martinez is one of the best makers in the country. Well played tonight, Stephen

This music, style, aesthetic, etc, has existed long before he brought it to the mainstream. It's interesting it's happening, and I believe it is significant, but he is not "1000 years ahead". This stuff has existed for a long time in many branches of creative music. Even the collaborator who was most active on this new album, Carlos Niño, has albums that sound uncannily similar to this.

Humans live in cycles, true instrumental must has always been around. True he isn't the first artist to create such an album. But he's the first hip hop artist to bring this genre to the mainstream. By not adding words that would be bound by an Era he's made his album timeless. Regardless if this is his intent, that will be the result.
