I've done that here in West Texas when there isn't anything to chase. It's the next best thing!

There are a few videos of some powerful dust devils. Those are super rare. They can reach EF1 strength on a tornado level ! I guess that's EF5 for tornadoes comparison.

Jeremy Perez I saw you were out doing this one of the same days I was, surprising how difficult it is to get close to a really good one. Lots of persistence and just just like regular chasing, huh? Your shots were greats btw!

@@MaxOlsonChasing Yeah, it was funny how there were some good comparisons with regular chasing - just on that super compressed time and space scale. I was bouncing around missing them too, and went through that similar thought process, finally staking out dust-bearing areas in leeward spots off higher terrain. Not sure if eddies & convergence off the terrain were actually helping focus some areas like it seemed or if I was just imagining it. Need to try it out some more & get a better feel for it.

You are so lucky to live there! I'm saying that because I'm obsessed with them! Do you have any tips, where to look for and in what time? It has to be hot and dry I know. Maybe simply on a dry field, huh? In summer, with some wind. Please reply!

I remember in 2018 or so I was in TX and someone left their garbage can pretty close to the middle of the road. I'm in the car and going out of the driveway and see a decent sized dust devil form right on the can, knock it over, then disappear. Made me laugh.
