And they're clockwise! I've been trawling through clips of dust devils, as I want to make the point that, at the small scale, such vortices are not necessarily influenced by Coriolis.
You are right, Dust devil's do not, as they are far too small to note the direction of Earth's rotation. However supercell tornadoes often do note the Coriolis force, not because they do in themselves, but because huge cyclone they come from do.
@@malcolmabram2957 The cyclonic (counter clockwise rotation) of supercells isn't due to the Coriolis force, but rather the existence of horizontal vorticity that gets tilted into the vertical by the storm updraft. This creates _both_ a mesocyclone and meso-anticyclone, but because of reasons unrelated to the Coriolis force, the mesocyclone tends to dominate and be the more powerful storm.
Is that why water whirls in rivers? Because of hot water rising? I did see one of these in fields west of Salem. The dust went very high in the sky. Oddly most times I am just hit with a short blast of wind and there is no dust. These are always funneling around seen and unseen.
@@pedobear8903 Yeah... I am lucky I live in Croatia, Where it gets up to 40 degrees C. Well, if you get a Day with 30+ degrees in summer, with a week without a rain, try looking on a big, dusty field, and dusty roads, you get a chance of sighting one there.

@@WorldThroughVideo Thank you for checking that out for me, I appreciate it a lot. I listen to a lot of instrumental tracks and really liked this one, and even spent a good amount of time looking for it in the youtube library but could never find it. And thanks for letting me know what drone you use as well! Your footage in all of your videos is spectacular. I have taken the Mavic Air 2 out on around 10 flights now and it has been a rock solid experience with no issues.
Thanks for the feedback. I use the most smooth parts of my flying and try to make it interesting with the scenes. I am working on my control to be able to do longer and better shots.
Thats why I wrote "in most cases" :) Some of these where really big so they probably had quite strong winds in them. Was worried that my drone would get to close:P
different mechanism tho. basically in short the air like within 6inches of the ground is SUPERHEATED by the dark ground and this creates a very unstable environment. However thermals don't instantly rise it needs a trigger. Once a rock or something creates enough upwards lift all that heat tires to go up and starts spinning. The higher the thermal the bigger the temperature difference (called lapes rate) very near the surface. infact in the most extreme cases even in just 1 foot off the ground temperatures can go from 150 to 100 by the top of the foot. Finally however because its so shallow and most importantly DRY there isn't even enough energy to make a cloud.
depends on what type of drone and how big it is. I remember as a kid in OH having dust devils on the ball field, not harmful but just tossed a lot of dust around and felt like a strong wind. In all actuality the haboobs that happen in the desert southwest are actually more dangerous.
Good Lord that was beautiful. It’s like they’re dancing.

And can be as tall as 3000 feet high?
The video is so perfectly stabilized, it looks like an "unrealistic computer animation".
Unrealistic?
beautiful video in every sense! well done and thank you for this! loved the music too!
That was cool. You can see where all the dust devils had traveled in the dirt. Little damage paths I guess you can say. Good stuff
Dust devil: Why is nobody scared of me :(
Multiple vortex dust devils? WOW! And a DOUBLE WOW...that they were spinning in OPPOSITE directions too!
Excellent drone footage. Well done! 👌
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Awesome footage! Love dust devils. Would love to freestyle one with my drone.
OUTSTANDING! IMPOSSIBLY FANTASTIC FOOTAGE!

Nice video, a sub from me, good work with the drone footage, looking forward to seeing more. Thanks for posting.

Good music. Cool video.
Those Amtrak passengers are getting pretty cool view of the dust devils
Wait dust devils can rotate in both directions wow
Great video.
Wonderful! (Mute is your friend.)

Beautiful land.
In warm areas, these are quite common but fascinating nonetheless

I've always been so fascinated by dust devils, to be honest would love to just run out there with them lol. Awesome footage!
Me too! I am going to hunt dust devils in the summer of 2020, wish me luck!

They are not.
Most times they are invisible. You can only tell if it goes right near you or you see foliage movement in confined area.

Nah they arent able to get as a tornado
Usually once they are reach maturity they prefer to live in the midwest. Rarely do they stay where they birthed.
They look similar to gustnados except no supercell clouds.
