  • Hello friends, this is from an Instructional Assistant's point of view.
    1. Be humble
    2. Listen and be Attentive
    3. Do your research- educate yourself
    4. Accept Criticism and be Willing to Learn
    5. Don't get too comfortable with your Teachers!
    I hope this helps!

    Some times, after correcting a student's misbehaviour against me, my teacher asked the girl to apologize at me. I felt relaxing and happy to see her change in attitude. My question is: What would be the best way to reply her? Should I say "Your apology is accepted", "Thank you!", "I'm glad to hear that." Let me know what you think, thank you, Cecillia

    • @teachingthepetites4614
      @teachingthepetites4614  2 года назад +3

      I had this happened plenty of times. Yes, "l accepted your apology," but follow it with reinforcement, such as "I like you, I'm just here to help you..." Children are embarrassed to apologize or admit they did wrong. What you're doing is telling her you're not the enemy in other words. Makes sense? I do this with my own children when correcting them.

    My advice to paras is that there have to be trust between you and your teacher and that only comes with communication. No teacher wants to work with a para who reports every minor issue to administration.

      @Coco I thought Special Ed teachers would go to break when the kids go to specials (art, PE). Special Ed teachers should NEVER go to break right before dismissal because I used to be a para and I know how hectic that period is. You seriously need to talk to that teacher because breaks NEVER go that way.

    • @teachingthepetites4614

      @Coco I'm a student teacher/ intern teacher in an SDC class. My mind is in a hundred different things at once. I tell my instructional assistant to tell me when she wants to take her break and lunch and I will make it work. So, I pretty much let her make her own schedule. 😂
      I know she works hard, and I was there last year. I want to make sure she knows how much she means to the kids and I.

    Hi! Just got a job as a bilingual teaching assistant. Thank you for all the content you are sharing. I was very surprised when you said not to be friends with the teachers, and that there's conflict. I understand from previous jobs I held that you can't be friends with every coworker, but what about one that clicks well with you?

      Congratulations. I think it's personal choice to be friends. I get along with all my coworkers, however I stay away from sharing personal information. Lines can become blurry. Just my thoughts.

      Just walk up to the teacher and introduce yourself. If she is ready to incorporate you in her class then she probably has a schedule for you already. If not she will just give you things to do on the spot, as she sees needed.
      Just smile big, show that you care about working with children. If you don't have anything to do, ask "Would you like me to do something else?" Most of the time they're super busy...so they might forget. Remember you're there to help the students and make her life easier.😊

    Hello! Thank for sharing this and I really appreciate to listen your experience ^^ I am working as teacher's assistant now and I have no experience of assistant to be honest. So I don't know how to solve this problem. How to control when the class is too noisy and out of control as assistant teacher? They keep quiet when main teacher with them. But when other teachers come, they ignore and do what they want. I am assistant teacher of that class and i am having a hard time to deal with that. The other teacher will teach lesson but some kids don't concentrate on teachers' instruction and teachings. Other teachers were having a hard time to control too. Can you please tell me how to deal with kids and discuss this with teachers?

    • @teachingthepetites4614
      @teachingthepetites4614  Год назад +2

      It's hard at the beginning because the children don't know you. You kind of have to find that strict middle ground. Remember if you are too soft, they will walk all over you...and if you're too strict your teacher may not like it.
      Whenever the main teacher was gone and they got too loud I would say, "Ok friends you know what you're supposed to be doing, if not I'm going to write your name down."
      Most if the time the main teacher does not want to hear that students were misbehaving, so they will appreciate that.
      Remember though, its all about teaching them respect. I hope this helps!😊
