I’d like to just saw my thoughts on the lyrics: One of the reasons Sting is one of my favorite songwriters is just his vocabulary and the way he forms his lyrics, he just manages to fit so many unique words in, like name another song that uses the words “lemming”, “crotch” and “rice crispies”. My own interpretation of the words is that the Synchronicity is between the father, who seems incredibly agitated, (which you can hear in the lyrics, like I said just the way he words them, you can hear his frustrations with everything) and is on the brink of snapping, which is then represented by the monster rising out of the lake. I absolutely love this song, the music is fantastic, and the words are so well written. Sting (and Andy and Stewart) are absolute geniuses.
@@aliwantizu exactly. You know the writing is good when you’ve never heard the word but know what it means just by it’s use, like when he says “litany”. Sting and Peter Gabriel will always be my two favorite singer/songwriters.

Rush was listening to the Police way before Synchronicty came out . This song is from The Police last album ( 5 ) . Rush mentioned liking the Police in 1980 .
And a “picket line” is a group of people standing in front of their place of employment in protest of working conditions or wages. The act of doing that is called picketing.
I clicked the second I got the notification!! Not only is this my favorite Police song, but one of my favorites of all time!!! Like top 3! Can’t wait to see their thoughts!
Yes, Claire, it is the Loch Ness Monster. Wiki is wrong; it's the father's increasing stress that is linked to the monster's awakening. And yes, the family is very dysfunctional. And the monster had made it to the door of the cottage at the end (that's the shadow). Walker, I loved the MST3K remarks! Good to have the both of you back!
The lyric about the picket lines refers to the dad crossing a line of people on strike, on his way into the factory where he works. It's called a 'picket line' because pickets are the vertical slats in a fence (such as in a waist-high picket fence), which back in the day were used as the handles on protest signs, to lift the sign up higher and make it readable from a longer distance. A 'picket line' came to be associated with striking workers holding signs in this manner, and the act itself came to be known as 'picketing'. The lyric is packed with meaning because the dad doesn't care (about many aspects of his life, but in this case) that he just walked past the strikers (unhindered, indicating they're peaceful, not trying to stop him), who are on strike to improve their bargaining position with the company, and thus he's hurting their cause in order to help his own, in order to do a job that he in fact hates. So even in this small line, there's all this back and forth tension being described, going but not wanting to, strikers picketing but not hindering him, etc. Very full of imagery, which like the entire song, carries a deeper meaning.
Hey, great to see you 2 back. This is an amazing song, and nothing like it was around at the time. It also is a fantastic music video. If you ever check out Synchronicity 1, not necessarily for this channel but just in real life, it's an entirely different type of song. ~Be Blessed
@@darcyperkins7041 Ummm...what? My comment suggested they check out Synchronicity 1 because THIS is Synchronicity 2. So, yeah, I know what song this is an that's why I suggested the other.
It's about the Loch Ness Monster. 'A dark Scottish lake' is mentioned in the song. The message I take from it, is that while our boring, hum drum, daily lives go on, there is still magic in the world that we should appreciate.
Hi guys. Love your station. You guys are very advanced in your musical taste's. I appreciate your love of the older classic music. Most kids your age don't have a clue about classic rock. Cudos to your parents. Wishing you guys would put out more videos. Bless you and your family. Mark from Edmonds WA.
The whole idea of synchronicity, two stories that happen at the same completely separate but but inextricably linked. One of the police's stronger tracks IMHO. Need to hear the whole album to get it all though. Esp "Mother" great track!
This song reflects some of the feelings in Europe during the early 80s, front line in the Cold War and the results of industrial pollution. The album Synchronicity is the best of all the Police's work.
Synchronicity is the album name, and the two cuts from the album are Synchronicity I (the opening track) and Synchronicity II. Check out the entire album if you like, it's worth it.
its great you guys have room to interpret the song in between yawns. when i was younger somethings just didnt make sense to me, but the artists were so skilled it was fun to listen to.
Well Hello there you 2. Haven't seen y'all in a minute. Good to see y'all back. Hope u both were able to get the classes y'all needed/wanted. Have an awesome school year. See y'all back here very soon. B safe & well. Say hi to the fam❣️✌🏼🤘🏼
Let's check back with you guys in a couple decades after you've had kids of your own and are grinding out a daily commute to a job you hate. Then you'll know ALL about the monster . . . and the fact there is no resolution.
Great to have you guys back for another reaction. MVR for this one goes to Walker for getting the pronunciation of Carl Jung's name "close" on the first try. This song came out when I was in high school. I believe Walker is also right that this song is in a minor key, but I'm not a musician so I can't tell you for sure. And you guys are right that "Loch" is Scottish for "Lake." If you haven't been exposed to it in school yet, go find some poetry of Robert Burns (his lyrics are used with the New Year's Eve song "Auld Lang Syne") to get a sense of how Scottish sounds different from English. IIRC Both Irish and Scottish have roots in a mixture of Old English, Pictish, and Celtic. And hopefully, next time you sit down to record a video it will be when you are still full of energy in the daytime!
Great to see you 2 back. Hope this isn't just a one shot 🙂 Love the back wall too. It's looking great. For me, I don't know exactly what this song is about, cause I didn't bother to look it up, and because I like interpreting it for myself, and what I got was that Sting is pointing out the utter absurdity of a life that involves driving to work each day in a shiny metal box, trapped with all the others, stranded on the road, due to traffic and the utter insanity of working 9 to 5 five days a week, just so that you can live a life that you never get to actually live, because you spend all day stranded in this endless loop that has no exit. He seems to be saying, this is insane and no wonder dad and grandma have lost their minds. I never understood what the monster in the lake was all about, so I looked up the definition of Synchronicity: the simultaneous occurrence of events which appear significantly related but have no discernible causal connection.
I think the meaning is quite dark- the monster represents the dad’s growing rage and insanity with his life - and just like the monster is about to start killing the villagers, the father is coming home to kill his family and himself, imho 🤷🏻♂️. But this showed a harder rock edge to the Police and even though they were about to come to an end, I think it’s the best stuff they ever did. 🔥😎✌🏼
Nice reaction. The Police are extremely talented musicians and that sound is produced by three people. Stewart Copeland, Andy Sumner and Sting. They were the band in the 80's and this album Synchronicity was the height of their career. Such songs as Every Breath You Take, Synchronicity, Wrapped Around Your Finger, Tea in the Sahara, King of Pain and many others! This song is about basically IMO about the Working Class and how things were at that time along with Environmental issues.
It's a song about a 'typical' family in the daily struggle of life. I think the real meaning of this song will reveal itself more and more to you as you gain experience in life. The reality of the words is the reason daddy stares into the distance - I'm also fairly certain it's what keeps him awake at night. The creature in the lake represents whatever is out there that we have no control over that can destroy us in a heartbeat - possibly even something of our own making. Stay young as long as you can, once it's gone you will never get it back.
I had the privilege to see The Police on their final tour as a band in 2008 with some friends. Concert was over 3 hours just themselves; no opening act
As the singer, Gordon Sumner aka Sting stepped onstage, I remembered that he looked casual Key West resident. Reason for him looking that way is concert was held in Florida....West Palm Beach.
That’s a grand time, eh? Sting is such a positive songsmith at times. Musically this another picture of The Police at the height of their tenure at the top. It’s a story song alright. A dysfunctional family. Don’t look for it sealed up in neat package. I am totally happy with the way you guys are going after the songs you pick. You like the depth of musical and lyrical content. I think you two would have liked the video. Walker's voice is getting deep & he might getting into the deep in Rhode Island. Claire, I don't think of this as a story song. "Taxi" by Harry Chapin is a story song.
I've seen many top rock bands live, but The Police in Hyde Park, 2008, their last live gig in the UK, is stil the best performance I have ever seen. Ironically, they didn't do this song, my only regret about their set list.
Sting used both "Lake" and "Loch" to rhyme with the previous lyric each time. For instance, he used Loch to rhyme with "kick in the crotch" in the previous line, whereas the other times, he rhymed "Lake" with "so much he can take" and "makes his eyeballs ache". I've looked up several lyrics sites and their printed lyrics all match his usage. So apparently this video maker just missed the changing of the word from "Lake" to "Loch" the one time that Sting used it in the lyrics. And good call on the Loch Ness Monster.
@@3YearsApart1613, Oh, wow. She must've just left. I was hoping to see someone from you, in between this. I bet even we, that listen to what you probably know, can suggest some good songs that you don't know.
C&W, Welcome back! I recommend Police's "Roxanne". Nothing sounded like it at the time(1978). Their "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" and "De Do Do Do" are fun ones you would like. Lead singer Sting had quite a solo career.
The drummer of the police Stewart Copeland was amazing. They all had huge egos especially Sting, which ultimately led to the bands demise. The had several hits, my favorite being Message in a bottle. Nice to see y'all back.
like the who, the drummer actually leads the majority of the songs....it makes for a very interesting sound and beat to the songs, hearing the rest of the band catching up to the rhythm of the drummer..
They were the world's biggest rock band after releasing this album and they felt that they had achieved everything that could be achieved, especially Sting who was the main composer. Then it didn't help that Stewart and Sting were really tired of each other. Yeah, Message in a bottle is my favorite too, their second album is the best.
Andy was significantly older than them and seemingly much more humble and non-confrontational. Obviously we don't know what was going on behind closed doors but I really feel like it was pretty much Copeland vs Sting.
A picket line happens to be a boundary established by workers on strike, especially at the entrance to the place of work, which others are asked not to cross. The line is to try and persuade workers and anyone else who try to break a strike to change their mind.
Hey guys! It's always a great day when you put out a video! Thank you for your great reaction to this song. I remember when I was younger and this song came out. Used to love jamming this in my car stereo...nice and loud! Hope to see something from you guys again soon. Only 2.5 weeks left until school returns for me. Where did the summer go? Best wishes to all of you. :)
Cool shirt Claire. I believe that’s the cover of Zenyatta Mondatta. That record has some really good POLICE songs too. One of my favorite records from them. Walking on the Moon? I mean come on, that’s a cool song.
Hi, well you've had a great introduction to a typical working class British family lol. Actually its rather a grim look at life in grimy working class areas of England, which is the home of Sting. As for the word 'pickets,' he's referring to the strikers holding their pickets in the air, the protest signs essentially. If you're a denizen of the American suburbs you'll be familiar with the famous white picket fence, a similar idea, with the vertical wooden sticks. And, as others have pointed out, loch is the Scottish word for lake. However, there is actually *one* lake in Scotland, named as such, the Lake of Menteith.
Welcome back. Sting left the Police and went on to a solo career. You 2 would probably like that stuff as well. Did you film a few vids before vacation, or just this one?
A picket line is a form of protest by people who are protesting against something, oftentimes employees striking against an employer, other times, a store or company or perhaps some sort of political or environmental, cause. The people will generally walk around with "picket signs" that have slogans written on them, like "This employer unfair" or "Save our planet", etc, trying to discourage others from crossing the "picket line" of people that are protesting, to keep them from going into the workplace or store, or make others generally aware of their cause.
A picket line is normally a line of protestors. The term invokes the image of a picket fence because the protestors usually have signs attached to stakes that look like those in a picket fence.
In this song, Sting is painting a very bleak picture of middle-class life in the UK rat race. Grandma was most probably senile. The Police are a very international crew and formed in London in 1977. I saw them in concert in 1983 when they were touring for this album.
A picket line is a line formed by striking workers outside of the business they are on strike against. Crossing it can have bad, sometimes violent consequences. Grandma screaming at the walls could imply that grandma is suffering from Alzheimer's disease or some other form of dementia.
I keep reading every artist under the sun being "under rated", yet they all made a great living, doing what they enjoy. Every musician in the Police could move right into other bands and not bat an eyelash in the process. Every album the Police created has several HITS and/or amazing songs. On a personal level, I find Sting to be a blowhard. On a professional level I think his voice is the chameleon voice of the late 70's and most of the 80's (he could step in and lead sing for Pink Floyd and the very next day being the lead singer for Air Supply). His solo work on "The Thomas Crowne Affair" soundtrack is absolutely sublime... Good to have you two back... I know everybody under the sun has done a reaction to this song I am about to mention. It is an all time Top 5 for me (especially this remake). Please, please, please check out the 2006 Live performance of "Whiter Shade if Pale" as performed by the original band with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra as back up singers and musicians.
They broke up while their last original album was still #1 on the charts. The Beatles, The Police, and Nirvana were times that the hottest band broke up at the height of their popularity.
Walker's comments had me laughing multiple times 😂😂 "get him some glasses" "do they live in Rhode Island?" "who calls it a loch?" "scottish people?" "are they international?" 🤣 But Claire's opening happy "it's a story song!" followed by her laughter when she realized the next lyric indicated she was not in for a happy song. 🤣 Oh my goodness! Brilliant song, unique and interpretable lyrics, I never made a super direct connection between the thing in the lake and the family it was just a mysterious thing that was happening and brought mystery vibes! Also I heard this song many, many times before I understood the lyrics and that was an eye-opener ha. 😅

Great song, always great to see your reaction to new music
A picket line happens to be a boundary established by workers on strike, especially at the entrance to the place of work, which others are asked not to cross. The line is to try and persuade workers and anyone else who try to break a strike to change their mind.
Did Claire get lost in Alaska?
Or the whole family? And it's been what year?
Wow, it's great to see you guys again. 😀👍
Hi..does any one knows why the kids are not posting?
I like to know about that too
Cool shirt Claire. I believe that’s the cover of Zenyatta Mondatta. That record has some really good POLICE songs too. One of my favorite records from them. Walking on the Moon? I mean come on, that’s a cool song.
It's about you two, the time favorite band of '80s review "THE-POLICE"!
Come back guys I miss your videos
We miss you all SOOOOOOO much!!
Please come back!!😊
Woo! Good song choice.
LOVE the Zenyatta Mondotta shirt!!
Please, please post a reaction again....it's been months and we miss you!
AWESOME, I LOVE LUV LUUUUUV IS SONG!!
Welcome back.
Sting left the Police and went on to a solo career. You 2 would probably like that stuff as well.
Did you film a few vids before vacation, or just this one?
Questions often go unanswered. 🤣🤣🤣🎧🎧
@@jeffschielka7845 I guess we'll have to wait to find out.
@@chriso6719 That's why I wrote it.🎧🎧
Just looking to see if you guys had returned. 😢
they both grew into womanhood and moved on
A picket line is a form of protest by people who are protesting against something, oftentimes employees striking against an employer, other times, a store or company or perhaps some sort of political or environmental, cause. The people will generally walk around with "picket signs" that have slogans written on them, like "This employer unfair" or "Save our planet", etc, trying to discourage others from crossing the "picket line" of people that are protesting, to keep them from going into the workplace or store, or make others generally aware of their cause.
WoW 😳 I'm currently learning to play this with my Band!!! Is that Synchronicity for you or what? 1984 The Police RULED MTV
Total synchronicity..lol
I miss both, saudades dos dois, Greeting from Brazil ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️, i had this LP 😀😀😀😀😀😀
A picket line is normally a line of protestors. The term invokes the image of a picket fence because the protestors usually have signs attached to stakes that look like those in a picket fence.
Hey guys,missed ya.great song,
Missing these reactions 😢
So what happened to this channel it's abandoned or something????
In this song, Sting is painting a very bleak picture of middle-class life in the UK rat race.
Grandma was most probably senile. The Police are a very international crew and formed in London in 1977.
I saw them in concert in 1983 when they were touring for this album.
A picket line is a line formed by striking workers outside of the business they are on strike against. Crossing it can have bad, sometimes violent consequences. Grandma screaming at the walls could imply that grandma is suffering from Alzheimer's disease or some other form of dementia.
Ooh ooh wee ooh, we are missing you!
♥️♥️
YOU GUYS ARE HILARIOUS!!!! I LOVE YOU TWO...♥️♥️🔥🙏
I keep reading every artist under the sun being "under rated", yet they all made a great living, doing what they enjoy.
Welcome back. Another great review to a great song. 😀😃😄😁
They broke up while their last original album was still #1 on the charts. The Beatles, The Police, and Nirvana were times that the hottest band broke up at the height of their popularity.
Walker's comments had me laughing multiple times 😂😂
"get him some glasses"
"do they live in Rhode Island?"
"who calls it a loch?" "scottish people?" "are they international?" 🤣
But Claire's opening happy "it's a story song!" followed by her laughter when she realized the next lyric indicated she was not in for a happy song. 😅
Hi.. anyone knows why the kids stopped...are they ok?
I was about their age when this dropped. Had no idea what this was really about for a long time. I'm 13 and think the beat is awesome and never looked deeper lol
