No need to apologize for enjoying a great song. The lyrics do describe a suburban dystopia, but the delivery is excellent. As a side note, when Queensryche released an album of all cover songs with great messages, in 2007, this was one of the songs they covered.
You did not need to apologize for smiling! The reaction was great and I'm just happy you picked The Police to react to! The album Synchronicity was album of the year and the title reflects the diverse music on this album, from love ballads to hard rock. The biggest hit was EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE. Smiling while enjoying something? This is an outrage! 😄 It’s all good, and I’m glad you went back and found a whole other layer in the lyrics. Enjoying it in your own way is a big part of what makes these reactions such a pleasure to share with you.
When the Police broke up they were probably the biggest band in the world, but they could no longer stand each other. Never the less I find their last album (this one) to be their best one.
I think you over state that. I’ve listened to interviews from Stewart Copeland on RUclips. He provides great insight into the band and particularly Sting.
The Police were formed in England by Stewart Copeland (drums) and Sting (vocals & bass)... Andy Summers (guitar) completed the line-up and they debuted in 1978... By the early 80's, The Police were a major pop rock band w/ a sound of their own... Unfortunately, The Police were short-lived and broke up by 1986 after a few albums... They are best known for the massive hit single 'Every breath you take'... Sting (real name Gordon Sumner) has a unique voice and launched a massively successful solo career in the 80's and beyond... Some of Sting's biggest solo hits - 'If I ever lose my faith in you' ... 'Englishman in New York' ... 'Russians' ... 'Desert rose'... More Police tracks - 'Every little thing she does is magic' ... 'Wrapped around your finger'.... 'Invisible Sun' ... 'Roxanne' ... 'Message in a bottle'...
Such an atmosphere with this song. I always liked it, but when I actually focused on the lyrics, I came to appreciate the staggering despair underneath it all.
Part of the brilliance of this song is how melodic and catchy it is while describing a very bleak and hopeless situation in the lyrics. This is an amazing band with a lot of diverse songs, "Message in a Bottle", "Invisible Sun", "So Lonely", "Demolition Man", etc. are all amazing songs that are a great place to start with this band. Great reaction as always and don't feel bad for smiling during the dark lyrics, most people probably do that the first time they hear this song because it's so catchy.
Your first reaction to The Police? OMG there is a HUGE rabbit hole for you to travel down with them and Sting. So many suggestions: "Message in a Bottle" "Bring on the Night" "Everything She Does is Magic" "Roxanne" And that is just scratching the surface of just The Police. All the "Reggatta De Blanc" album. As far as Sting himself, His first solo album "Bring on the Night" is fantastic and a great start. "Dream of the Blue Tutles" Album, "Nothing Like the Sun" Album. Oh another great starting point there is documentary that goes with his first solo album, also titled "Bring on the Night" and you get a lot of behind the scenes before their first concert and some of his process. I always wanted to see someone with a music background react to that documentary.
Aaliyah, love your channel. You have great empathy and awareness of other people in one so young, Reg, your pause over some lyrics. I'm impressed, 😊. Keep up the good work, 😉.
A couple of trivia facts. The drummers name is Stewart Copeland. He’s considered one of the top 100 drummers of all time. His two brothers worked as booking agents et cetera for the band. The interesting part is Stewart Copeland’s Dad was near the top of the CIA and was one of the first CIA agents of all time.
While Stewart became a Police-man, the other Copeland brothers created the concert agency FBI - Frontier Booking International and the production company IRS - Illegal Record Syndicate...notice a pattern emerging here?
Your editor's note just shows how sweet of a person you are. This is my favorite Police song, but they have other great ones for sure. Like you said, that chromaticism going up is very catchy, and then later how it goes down. I also like the courage to put a song out there that essentially doesn't have a chorus, because you're always risking that people won't feel like singing along with it, but it works very well this way in it being sort of a social commentary.
Wow. Loved the Police, and loved your reaction to this song. Keep doing your best and you, too will be great! Glad I got this and thanks for the smiles!!
I love your editors note. It means you have morals and integrity. Something the world is lacking. This is a good song but not there Best I think it was made for a madmax movie.my favorite is "Roxanne" when you hear it you find yourself singing it for days. Love you Aaliyah.
I appreciate you as a middle aged old man for your desire to learn and to be curious enough to pause what you were doing in order to extrapolate the information in music form what is presented before you. Kudos!

We enjoy your all your reations. At least we get to see your smile. Glad you were able to catch on to the lyrics, though. Great song and as always great reaction .
This is one of my favorite songs by The Police. The juxtaposition of the ultimate suburban dystopia nightmare with the Loch Ness monster has always kinda tickled me. Around the time this song came out, Sting was not only doing some touring with the band, but was also acting in the first film version of Frank Herbert's Dune as Feyd Rautha. You can tell by the hairstyle Sting has...in Dune, it's only slightly darker than in this video. The weird thing that Andy Summers seems to be playing that looks like an large fish's bones is actually a guitar called a Gittler Guitar, that is made of titanium, has small individual pick-ups for amplification, can easily be configured for a right or left-handed player, and has no fretboard. All one does is press a string down between the separate titanium frets. However, it does come with a removable clear plastic sleeve to fit on the back to help the player's fret hand positions. While The Police was a British band...only Sting and Andy Summers were from the UK. Stewart Copeland, one of the greatest percusionists ever, was American. There are many Sting songs that you can cover that are superb: - Solo: Fragile, Fortress Around Your Heart, If You Love Someone (Set Them Free), Russians, Gueca Song (They Dance Alone), If I Ever Lose My Faith In You, Fields of Gold, An Englishman In New York, and Moon Over Bourbon Street. - The Police: Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic, Every Breath You Take, Roxanne, Spirits In the Material World, Don't Stand So Close To Me, "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" (yeah...that's the title), King Of Pain, Wrapped Around Your Finger, and Message In A Bottle.
Hi Aaliyah, I'm older than you and I was an ex- Musician who was in music longer than you've been alive but I'm so happy that you are learning and branching out too explore ♥Possibly one of my favorite groups is The Police, I've only seen them once live but they were Amazing. Other songs like Every little thing she does is magic, Every breath you take, Message in a bottle, Walking on the moon, Roxanne, De do do do and so many more. Also the movie made by Guitarist Andy Summers "Don't stand to close to me",which is a good song, is a good insight into the groups members Drummer Stewart Copeland & Bassist Sting. And don't worry I always smile also when I hear their songs 😁
@@AaliyahCapili I'm a father and anytime I can pass my limited knowledge onto a person, especially a pretty girl like you ♥I will gladly try to inform them
This song is a great song. But no apology for appreciation of a great piece of music. Glad this is your first Police song as they wrote a catalogue of gems.
As far as I'm concerned, you never need to apologize for a sweet smile, which I only interpreted as you goovin' to the tune, Aaliyah, "I dig a pony" too! 😉
There are a lot of Police songs that I like, including this one, but two of their better songs are "I Can't Stand Losing (You)" and "Walking On The Moon". When they were in the studio they fought about material to put on the album but you can not deny the fact that the material they were fighting about was all well written and worthy of hearing. Stuart's drumming on "Walking On The Moon" was simply amazing. As a drummer myself I still can't figure out how he used the hi-hats the way he did during that song.
I love how the guitar rarely plays full chords. Several are arpeggiated or outlined, but in many sections it's only single notes forming incidental dyads with the bass. It's probably the closest 80s pop got to counterpoint.
I understand your point, and get that you were caught up in music I consider very good. So I never thought you were being irreverent or inappropriate. And, I have to say this is my favorite Police song. They wrote and a recorded a lot of stellar tracks, but this one just edges out the rest for me. Those opening belts like you said- they’ve always created a sense of momentum for me, like the song is pressing forward. Then the band offered their usual uniquely cool hybrid of rock, reggae, punk and pop. To top it all off, for some reason the lyrics mention a very famous Scottish legend, that has fascinated me all my life. All told it equals my top tune.
2 things came to my mind, while watching: Andy Summers had been around for quite a while, when The Police formed. I.e. he played guitar on the album Sarabande from the great Jon Lord. That whole album should be a nice surprise for you to listen to. Another great voice (and a completely different style) would be the song 16tons by Tennesee Ernie Ford. In preparison of listening to that, pls look up the history of West Virginia. Today, the US State with the lowest incomes. All went down, when the coal mining ceased. Greetings from the far north of Germany!
The Police/Sting and Pink Floyd is what I grew up on. Nothing to apologise about. The lyrics aren't something to worry about with this song. Lots of turmoil in the English Parliament during this period. With music Aaliyah, you'll often find that major political changes will be reflected in an artists music/art. This is why artists must have a platform and be able to earn a living from it. It is indeed paramount. To be a vocalist, to be a writer is something I can't do at all. I can make amplifiers from scratch without a schematic but that's just my way for enjoying music. Music and the politics of the day, society in it's day is something we need as a society!
I enjoyed your reaction to this song Aaliyah! I will always prefer this song to "every breath you take" because everyone prefers that song to the one you just reacted to! If that makes sense. And please keep smiling! We love you more when you do! Take care!😊
In your defense, any dunce knows you're simply getting into the music. S.M.H. Sting's talent is worthy of the smiles he puts on many faces. And I appreciate your versatility in genres!
The psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung #CGJung defined synchronicity (ancient Greek σύν syn, German 'with, together' and χρόνος chronos 'time') as temporally correlated events that are not linked by a causal relationship (i.e. are acausal), but are perceived and interpreted as connected and related to each other
Yeah, no need to apologise, I loved the song the first time I heard it in '83, and I don't think I ever knew what the lyrics were until maybe 10 years ago.
Apologies for smiling? I laughed my head off, "having to shout above the din of our rice crispsy." Its a very British song, lots of edgy vibes," lemmings in tiny metal boxes contestants in a suicidal race", I used to drive for a living absolutely gladiatorial. Yes a lot of British angst in this song, a real banger!
Your singing is all technique and no soul. An opera vocalist has to be in command while telling that life. You're singing pop style. Explore your range. Syncopation is everything.
Aaliyah you are too damn funny. You said Grooviness people said Groovy in the 1060's. You don't hear that much any more. I haven't watched your reactions in awhile. I really want to watch you singing Opera. Don't take it personal I have a Bad memory. I find so many things yo watch on U-Tube. I hope you are doing good miss Aaliyah. I have been watching other things on U-Tube. How do you find the tine to do Reactions plus your Opera studies. Aaliyah...please, no need to apologize. You smiled for the great music...the sound...stings voice. Only a low life idiot will pull you up for smiling! Keep doing your great reviews, and always be true to yourself :)
Come on. You gotta be one of the nicest people on the planet. Don’t apologize. You were feeling the music. People need to do that again so every little thing doesn’t set them off. It’s an awesome song…that’s all anyone should care about.
As many have said, no need to apoligize for getting caught up in the groove, first time you hear a track of any kind, its just a reaction, it's not a break down or deep analisis. Your reaction is spot on, there is a disconnect between the music and the lyrics, the tune is upbeat and lyrics are disturbing. That isjust one of the things that I love about this band.
No need to apologize for enjoying the music and the great music and the impeccable technique they used. Also a lot of the music is not so easy to understand on first hearing it. Many of the songs on the album are not easy to understand what they are saying in truth. There are still people that don't get "every Breathe you take" is not a love song.
I thought it was very cool of you to note that you did not pay sufficient attention to the horror story lyrics, which are half of the thing that makes this song a classic. The smiling was fine as long as you were appreciating the heavy lyrics, which ultimately you did, so I appreciate that you said something about it, even if it was later on. Very conscientious of you.
The Police are a very politically and socially aggressive band and a lot of their lyrics touch on serious topics in a way designed to push people to think. Don't feel like you need to apologize, but I do appreciate your acknowledgement once you realized what they were saying. A lot of times reactors miss the meanings of the song, which is fair. How many times did I have to hear the song before I realized what it was all about? I don't know if it would be too much work for you, but it would be really cool if, when you did realize what the song was about after editing, that you did a little post-reaction commentary on the deeper aspects of the song. Like the drudgery of middle management and suburban family life juxtaposed with the approach of the Loch Ness monster.
Of course, they also have plenty of songs that are great but not particularly deep, and some can be outright silly. Nonetheless, some of those songs have some absolute lyrical gems as well.
Nothing wrong with you smiling, it's a absurd reality , it is quite funny really, I'm english & recognise what he sings about only too clearly, if you didn't laugh you'd cry.
WTH? don't apologize for your reaction. this is appreciated from me and shows your sensitivity but alot of song's have dark meanings. DaveMatthewsBand - CRASH is either a stalker or hopeless romantic song. you decide
Tough to analyze the lyrics on a 1st listen. Sting is usually a pretty deep lyric writer, but it might take at least 2 passes to know what he is talking about.
No need to apologize for enjoying a great song. The lyrics do describe a suburban dystopia, but the delivery is excellent.
As a side note, when Queensryche released an album of all cover songs with great messages, in 2007, this was one of the songs they covered.
Exactly. I still don't know the lyrics. If it was supposed to be 100 percent serious they would have made the music less happy

I laughed my head off, "having to shout above the din of our rice crispsy."
Its a very British song, lots of edgy vibes," lemmings in tiny metal boxes contestants in a suicidal race", I used to drive for a living absolutely gladiatorial. Yes a lot of British angst in this song, a real banger!
👍❤️👍
🥰🥰🥰
Your singing is all technique and no soul. An opera vocalist has to be in command while telling that life. You're singing pop style. Explore your range. Syncopation is everything.
Thanks for the feedback
Aaliyah you are too damn funny. You said Grooviness people said Groovy in the 1060's. You don't hear that much any more. I haven't watched your reactions in awhile. I really want to watch you singing Opera. Don't take it personal I have a Bad memory. I find so many things yo watch on U-Tube. I always remember you because you taught me why Ronnie James Dio is such a Great singer. I hope your musical studies are going good. You take care of yourself Miss Aaliyah. Patrick from Wilmington Delaware
Hello Mr. Patrick, thanks so much for taking the time to watch and share. I am really grateful that you remember me. Hope you are having a nice day always🌺
I hope you are doing good miss Aaliyah. I have been watching other things on U-Tube. How do you find the tine to do Reactions plus your Opera studies. You are the First Opera singer I every knew personally. Do you live in America ? I'm just a curious person. You take care of yourself Miss Aaliyah. Patrick from Wilmington Delaware
Aaliyah...please, no need to apologize. You smiled for the great music...the sound...stings voice. Only a low life idiot will pull you up for smiling! Keep doing your great reviews, and always be true to yourself :)
Thanks so much🌺
A monster coming home.
Come on. You gotta be one of the nicest people on the planet. Don’t apologize. You were feeling the music. People need to do that again so every little thing doesn’t set them off. It’s an awesome song…that’s all anyone should care about.
Oh thanks so much for your kind understanding♥️
Thanks so much for sharing💕
Try the song silver and cold by the band AFI
Thanks for the recommendation
For something a bit different, I would recommend Dire Straits and their track Planet of New Orleans...
Thanks for the recommenendation
I thought it was very cool of you to note that you did not pay sufficient attention to the horror story lyrics, which are half of the thing that makes this song a classic. The smiling was fine as long as you were appreciating the heavy lyrics, which ultimately you did, so I appreciate that you said something about it, even if it was later on. Very conscientious of you.
Oh thanks so much for your kind appreciation🌺
We must scream above the din of our Rice Krispies!

Thank you so much for taking the time to share all of these and for the feedback🌺
🤍
🥰
Music is SUPPOSED to make you smile, deep lyrics or not....

HOW BOUT A BAND CALLED THE OUTLAWS FROM GEORGIA. HAVE A GOODUN
Thanks for the recommendation💕
Nothing wrong with you smiling, it's a absurd reality , it is quite funny really, I'm english & recognise what he sings about only too clearly, if you didn't laugh you'd cry.
Why apologize? The video is crazy as hell.
🌺🌺🌺
WTH? don't apologize for your reaction. this is appreciated from me and shows your sensitivity but alot of song's have dark meanings. DaveMatthewsBand - CRASH is either a stalker or hopeless romantic song. you decide
Oh thanks for sharing 🌺
Tough to analyze the lyrics on a 1st listen. Sting is usually a pretty deep lyric writer, but it might take at least 2 passes to know what he is talking about.
Thanks again for the info and for sharing
Hi. Please react to Neutron Star Collision by Muse ❤
Thanks for the recommendation
This song is extremely NOT indicative of The Police sound. I'm sure other ppl will suggest other big songs that will show you their classic style.
Thanks for sharing💕
Sorry...your channel is impossible to watch.....pausing every 40 seconds
That’s the whole point of reaction videos
Sorry about that, thanks for the feedback
