I think the coolest thing about this show is the shots of the drum line at the end of a piece. So clean, but absolutely no wasted movement. Completely still but for the stick and arms
I remember seeing this live in 2000. I was a snare drummer in my HS band…. I had tears in my eyes bro. The Cavies 2000 show will forever be my most favorite for all time in all of DCI. It touched my soul.
Paul, this may be my favorite Reaction from you yet partly because I marched in the Cavaliers but also because you obviously from your reaction I understand how and why the Cavaliers go on to dominate the first decade of the 2000s. The Hornline is extremely technical and while they might not blow you away literally like Carolina crown in recent history there for scission is every bit as good as Carolina crowns but what really made the Cavaliers successful is the entire package of the show and their visual performance which as you will see in the future this week and as you saw today is nothing short of magical. I love your very first reaction to the first hit of the show And that’s why I love it when you’re wearing your vest During drum corp reactions… If you think the crowd loads the Cavaliers in 2000 you will see how the overall love from the entire DCI community continues to grow for the Cavaliers with each year from 2000 forward as their excellence was not lost on many…. It looks like your question was answered by several people so I won’t answer it again but I love it they are still asking questions and as a past participate in drum Corps and a drum corp Enthusiast I can’t tell you how many times my husband has asked me why are you watching this show again you’ve seen it 1000 times And my response is very close to yours which is I can watch it over and over and always see something different 😁😁 I look forward to the rest of your reactions over the next five or six days and just a sidenote the 2022 drum Corps season kicks us on Tuesday the 28th and we were all excited after Covid has disrupted the last two years. Thanks again👍
A composer is the person/s who write and some can arrange it for a drum corps. People like Pat Methany, Chuck Mangione, Samuel Barber and Bela Bartok are well-known composers who have many of their pieces used in DCI. A Drum major is the leader of the corps and conducts a show the entire time to keep everything flowing together
The drum major also serves as the youth leader off the field. He is the one who passes along info/logistics from management. During my time with the Cavaliers the drum major was responsible for setting the tone of the corps including discipline, leadership, teamwork, etc. It takes a very special person to fulfill all those roles as a young adult.
COMPOSER and DRUM MAJOR (or CONDUCTOR) - totally different jobs. A Composer writes music. A Drum Major (or Conductor, in a concert hall) directs the musical ensemble in performance. You may also encounter the Director, who may be a combination administrative and musical role, depending on what kind of musical ensemble we’re talking about. In a DCI drum corps, the Director is the Corps Director - basically the CEO of the organization’s board. In this position, both business and musical decisions are made, planning the corps’ program for the year with the creative staff, making long-term plans for the organization with the Board of Directors, and dealing with the bean-counters.
I forgot how good Cavies were this year. 2000 was a great year. Also, Steven, you need to feed him some jazz shows, maybe a few BD ones, he seems to like that music.

Still a favorite show on my list. I used to use it as a reference to my color guard kids every year so the new kids could see what our goal was

You NEED to go experience DCI in person!! And get there early to go see Drumlines and Horns rehearsing pre-performance.

I will do that Danny as I was planning on sending him some BD 94 and Madison 95 for sure
Yessir!
I love that jam session at 9:40
I see you are a man of culture. These reactions for my favorite corps are the best lol
You from Louisiana?
