I find these videos you share fascinating. It’s comforting to know that these silly buggers and downright dangerous drivers are being held to account sometimes. Great job.
The fines are too small and need to reflect the severity. Some of those drivers should have fines of £2.5K and a ban to deter them from their stupidity. I am on the road every day and the standard of driving is very poor. Biggest issue is that people get very confused with motorways, both three lanes and four, many seem to think lane 2 or 3 is the lane they can sit in from start to finish of their journey.

Fines are calculated using the driver’s income. The variance will be due in no small part to what they earn. While you might think a couple of hundred quid is nothing, to them it could be significant.
Vehicle seizures lasting a month + + fines and points would make motorists think
@@Bosun25Impounding Vehicle's isn't that hard in itself. Needs a secure monitored yard. Drivers are given a date ( usually within 5 days ) to bring the vehicle to the yard. It will be held ( with keys ) in a numbered space. On return day the Owner or named ( by email min 24hrs in advance ) can get the vehicle back. Failure to bring in the vehicle with-in involves an immediate doubling of the impounded time. ( A Lawyer can challenge with true mitigating circumstances). Beyond that Automatically sent to Police for detainment and arrest of driver/owner. This then goes back to court with possibly total seizure of the vehicle and loss of driving licence
whilst we don't know the full details obviously, the variation in severity of penalty applied does not lend great credibility to the process.
Some drivers in Cornwall should not be on the road. I could have been killed last week when a driver shot around the bend way too fast and ended up on my side of the road! It shook me up. I am going to get a dashcam, front and rear.
The last one, there was an animal laying injured in the road that the people were protecting, how could anyone approach a hazard at such a speed. They had no idea what they were driving into. He should have been prosecuted for dangerous driving. Not very consistent punishment in relation to the offences. Good work making road users accountable for their actions though.
Some of these should be out right bans. On a funny note a Scubby over took me and my sisters car on a country lane just outside Turo last week. It then forced its way in front on my sister, seconds later he pulled over. I thought we were about to have a toe to toe but instead it appeared his cars engine popped from the aggressive over take :D
0:19 i assume the driver who submitted the footage got fined for driving at 43mph in lane 2 with lane 1 completely empty?
Car travelling same direction as you and cutting you off: 8 points and fine:
Cars almost killing oncoming drivers or pedestrians on road: 4-6 points and a lower fine.
Good that you follow up on these crimes, but you need to be much harsher on the maniacs that almost cause head on collision / run people over.
The police don't decide the sentences, mate.

Fines/sentences are not heavy enough, vehicle seizure for a month + would be a good deterrent- good to see some of the thousands of offences being brought to you, it may help stop the killings and serious injuries by motorists every day
Why do the points vary so much? 1:59 has 8 points, 2:29 has 5 points, 0:25 6 points but the first "appears" a less hazardous manouveur?
It depends on multiple factors, road conditions, road markings, other drivers, their current licence condition. Many factors contribute.

I agree, undertaker got £800 ish fine, a white car that almost ploughed into another car got less than £200

I'm guessing the fine varies depending on the judge and the driver's attitude in court
@@NicholasElliott the fine depends on the defendant's weekly income. Most of these fines at 75% -150% of a weeks income before tax.
Although there appears to be inconsistency in the sentencing, that can be affected by factors we are not told about, such as previous convictions.
Keep up the good Work Devon & Cornwall police and if there caught again they should have there licence revoked for good .
What is “registered keeper failed to identity the driver”?
Where the person who is the registered keeper of the vehicle doesn't tell the police who was driving, so by default, the registered keeper gets penalised.
The police sent a letter to the owners address but the owner wouldn’t admit who was driving.
Diddums ... the registered keeper should receive a ban, by default, not a small fine and a "pointless" number of points. That would make them sing ... or reveal that it was them driving after all. Once again, the law is there to protect the guilty.

I'm not so sure that having to do a Driver Education Course actually works ! Think a fine and points will make some drivers think more about their attitude towards driving !

Very good this is great for the dogooders but do the police check all the circumstances of the party's involved
Some of those are Reckless driving or Dangerous driving, not without due care.!

1:21 - Is that seriously a cyclist going down lane 1 on a dual carriageway?? They're the danger.
Unfortunately, whilst you think it may not be the wisest thing to do, it is perfectly legal. Had it been a motorway, that's a different matter.
I saw on the news today a report of some twat riding an electric scooter along the hard shoulder of a motorway at night. He got nicked for drunk driving and no insurance. There's no cure for stupid.
Totally inconsistent fines, some really bad ones got a couple of hundred fine, the van at 2.12 doing hardly anything wrong at all, just making progress, indicated safely, pulled out safely enough to overtake lorry, despite the 'hogger' in the outside lane, the van driving was pretty close to 'normal' progressive driving, we can't all just sit behind the snails nor are we expected to, he got nearly a thousand pound fine and a ban!
Yet the motorbike rider who upped onto the pavement and charged along under cutting traffic which was hugely dangerous, a £50 fine???
No wonder people don't trust the courts, if I was the van driver I'd feel sick, probably didn't impress the judge though, just a working man, I noticed the range rovers get off light too!!!

01:18 That really annoys me! HGV passes a cyclist too closely and gets a slap on the wrist. If HGV had done that to a car, it would have been a fine and points.
I consider most of these as Dangerous Driving and should be banned for 10 years.
It woukd be interesting to know where the car is registered? Are these people locals or holiday visditors, as i have a theory that it is the locasl who speed and drive worse than visitors.
Big Brother is watching you. A letter in the CSMA magazine recently bemoaned the fact that the writer had submitted several videos to his local police force and they had done nothing. Well the authorities, of which I was one, probably took a different view as to what constitutes a prosecutable motoring offence and so the police will have a slew of videos to look at which are minor transgressions which we all make, including police officers from time to time, and which are insufficient to merit prosecution or similar. In the 1970s and 80s, many people were prosecuted for driving without due care and then the police decided that only injury accidents were to merit prosecution, unless dangerous driving was involved. The clock is being turned back and most drivers do not wish to feel that they are being followed by some busybody ready to report them for minor incidents. That said, all the incidents shown on this video merited prosecution. My view is that only the most serious instances should be reported and they are those which significant danger is obvious and which would merit consideration for the offence of dangerous driving, or the high end of driving without due care and attention. I would like to know how many of the 631 incidents prosecuted out of a total of1198 reported are of a relatively minor nature. The police here have doubtless included the cream of the crop.
What a load of twaddle.
Driving standards are there for a reason. Quite often, those who are persisently guilty of 'minor transgressions' or those that regularly contravene the standards set out are most likely to be Drivers who are either too complacent behind the wheel, Drivers who are distracted or not paying attention, or those that have a complete disregard for the standards and rules that are there to protect all road users. It's these Drivers (in addition to those that are outright reckless) that can actually end up causing serious injury, or death on our roads if left unchecked.
We've got a serious lack of Road Traffic Officers (and a seriously under-resourced police force for that matter) so I'm all for the police reviewing Dash cam videos to ensure those that pose a danger to other road users (no matter how minor you deem the incident) are dealt with. If they've not got enough Road Traffic Officers/Road Traffic resource to police the roads more often, then this is the next best thing.
@@agpe15 So we have got a serious lack of experienced traffic police officers and yet you want them to spend their valuable time trawling through dashcam footage sent in by any Tom, Dick or Harry vigilante who thinks he might have spotted some minor transgression? If you have a driving licence, let's hope that the next time you inadvertently fail to give way to a vehicle travelling uphill you don't get photographed and reported for driving without reasonable consideration. As you say, the police haven't got the resources to deal with everything, nor have the CPS or the courts.
If it is serious enough to prosecute then it is not "relatively minor in nature". I regularly send dash cam footage of poor driving to my local police force. There are only two requesters/reviewers and I understand that these people are not Road Traffic officers, just experienced people who understand road traffic offences and the law, so are not being taken off the roads.
@@benjaminburt2424 Precisely my point, nor did I say the opposite. Many episodes of poor driving are minor and warrant and get a police telling off or warning letter but not prosecution. Collisions, where one driver is probably at fault but have not caused injury have not generally warranted prosecution for many years. It follows from what you say about dashcam footage that you are a better judge of what should be prosecuted that those who are tasked with the job. Do you not think that what you have said about that carries a degree of arrogance?
Meanwhile, I had great footage of white van man at his finest and the police weren't interested. Wouldn't even accept the file in email. Had to bother a local officer to come to my house to watch it there - and then do nothing.

It perfectly legal to cycle on a dual carriageway. It is also legal to ride a horse, drive a herd of sheep, or walk on such a road. It would be impossible to exclude such road users, as dual carriageways don't have alternative routes like motorways have.
@@gavinbae7887 The lorry could easily have given him more room by slowing down, then changing lanes when safe. The court clearly agreed with me. BTW, cyclists do pay into the system through their taxes. Vehicle Excise Duty is just a tax like any other, and is not there specifically to pay for the roads.
@@gavinbae7887 everybody pays for the roads through general taxation. Cyclists pay that way even though bicycles cause zero wear and tear to roads. 'Road tax' is a misnomer and is not in any way connected to the upkeep of roads.

Road tax serves as an independent tax motorists are legally required to pay, whereas cyclists don't. Ironically, if road tax isn't associated with road maintenance, cyclists shouldn't have any privilege of not needing to pay. Adding on in response to the commenter above I don't have an issue with cyclists endangering themselves on the hard shoulder of a dual carriageway. My gripe comes from the entitlement of recording a dangerous situation that they've solely caused and using that footage to penalise motorists.
People with dashcam should not be the substitut for the police. Unless a crime been committed, speed or failure to stop at lights or stop are infractions.
A great deal of dashcam footage highlights the shear amount of dangerous driving and speed related offences that takes place. Just because someone wasn't injured or killed doesn't make it right to not send in the clips to the Police for follow up prosecution.

Great fun Buy an in-car camera, drive slowly, stay in overtaking lanes as long as possible & generally drive in an obstructive way then OH JOY the fun or being the school sneak & running to teacher (sorry Plod) with the evidence. of others being so frustrated they take a few chances. Holding a driving licence is a privelidge and if you can't abide by the rules of the road, you shouldn't have a licence and that goes for people who cause frustration and annoyance too such as middle-lane hogging, incorrect use of fog-lights etc.
This scheme is ridiculous. Over 70% of complaints are coming from cyclists. Plenty of motorists have dashcam footage of cyclist behaving irresponsibly, not pulling in on narrow lanes to let cars pass, riding two-abreast and in huge groups in inappropriate locations etc. but pointless submitting footage as they cannot be identified.
What a world we are now living in, that wanabee traffic cops have now got a platform for their weird fantasies and feel the need to submit some of this stuff, what sad people they must be and worse that the authorities are now actually acting on it

It is recommended to have a dashcam mainly for evidence to a crash etc. As well as this people can use this footage to report a crime this is good because, think of it thisway, if this driver kept driving like that and lead to a fatal accident and this driver ended up killing your best friend, you would probably regret giving the police even the little bit of help to stop this person befor the accident happened!
