- This is a 2012 residential Husqvarna RZ5424 with a Kawasaki 24hp engine and 54 inch cutting deck. It has been a fairly decent mower over the years as I've made sure to keep up on yearly maintenance to give me trouble-free service - things like keeping up with oil changes, greasing zerk fittings, air in tires etc. A couple of quips I have include the tires and the seat. The tires are good for mostly flat surfaces but go downhill fast (literally and figuratively) when going around a slope sideways and if there is any moisture present on the grass. This is not an issue of old tires or something that developed over time - this has happened from the time when the mower was new. The issue with the seat is that it's from the bargain bin and it could use a taller back and some armrests. I cut about 1.25 acres with this mower.
Something I'll be repairing in this video is adjusting the neutral control. The neutral control keeps the mower from slowly creeping when levers are in the neutral position. If your mower creeps in neutral, the neutral control needs to be adjusted, and I'll show you how it can be done on your Husqvarna RZ5424.
How to adjust the Neutral Control on your Husqvarna RZ5424
1. Jack mower rear end.
2. Take off wheel.
3. Take off linkage.
4. Loosen adjustment screw.
5. Start mower.
6. Rotate nuetral control bracket adjustment until there is no rotation.
7.Tighten adjustment screw.
Just watched this again. This has to be one of the cleanest 6-year-old lawn mowers in existence.
Thanks for this video, I've watched several of them even including ones from the dealer and or manufacturers that didn't go into detail like yours did! Thanks again!!!
I have the RZ5426 and it sat under water in a flood for 10 days back in 2016 and we just had to change the oil and its still kicking and cutting good
Exactly what I needed. Thanks for taking the time
I counted nine grease zerks. Three on the deck, two on the deck. and one on each wheel.
Wow!!!
That is really just too simple.
Thanks for making this video.
Great video. I am getting a great deal on a husqvarna tomorrow and this was the only issue it has.
Make sure you get an extended warranty. I got a great deal on mine too. Now I use it for spare parts because I bought it AS IS because it was a great deal.
RZ STANDS FOR Ranguin Zereh WHICH MEANS MISCELLANEOUS IN SWEDISH 54 IS FOR THE SIZE DECK YOU HAVE AND 24 IS FOR 24 HP
You left off the final step. Adjusting the link
I have a 2019, when I put it in park it wants to go in reverse, looks like this will solve the problem. Thanks!
Thanks,great video.
Thanks!
On my mower when I reverse and let off the drive bars it returns to neutral, but when I push forward and let go of the bars it continues to go forward and infact will eventually speed up to full speed. When I look at the mechanism on my Gravely or Cub Cadet the spring on the hydro motors brings both forward a reverse back to neutral, but not the Husqvarna. Its a little hard to explain without pictures but the the little brackets on the hydros (the forward ones) are different from my other 2 machines?? What's the reason for this??
I have the same mower. I have serviced it myself for 7 years and finally sent it in for service last summer. When I got it back, I noticed that sometimes it wouldn't start even when I had the parking brake engaged. I yank hard on the brake and wiggle it and eventually it would start. However, I have had a couple of times that it just wouldn't start. Where is the kill switch in the brake linkage and can I adjust it?
Found my mower driving in reverse while in neutral position, removed linkages on both sides and axle stayed still on both sides, issue was the linkages needed adjusting out further for reverse issue, 13mm and 11mm backup wrench to adjust out further
Good video 👌
I have a Husqavarna zero turn and when I start it, its wide open so I have to shut it down quick,,,I noticed a hook on the back they came loose, so I put it back in the hole and mowed part of my grass fine...then I started to mow the other side and it jumped back to high throttle again, although I put the hook back in hole of the arm its still at full throttle...any idea what it could be... could the throttle be the throttle stuck
What makes pto switch keep popping down in the off position while mowing on mz52 husqvarna?????
I have one that's about 3 years old. I think the linkage has slipped or something on the left side. It will start in the braked position, but when I try to pull the left arm into the neutral position, it dies. Is there a way to adjust this?
I have a Z254f that I purchased used last summer. Husqvarna says to give the front wheel mounts & bearings 3-4 strokes of grease, the deck spindles 2-3. Most other mowers that I have had required grease until it came out around the various seals. It seems like you could come up short on grease by following Husqvarna's instructions. What are your thought s on this?
You should never grease anything until it comes out the seals.
how many pumps of grease do you put in each grease zerk?
Z254f rear wheel lug nut torque specs?? Cannot find em. Someone help me if ya can
silly question- what the heck you running it for in wet grass? otherwise, decent video, I see the logic in "oiling " the under side of deck to keep it from rusting, but I can see potential issues with dirt and grass sticking, wreaking havoc on bearings and idler arms, etc. wouldn't it be more effective to install wash ports and keep it clean and dry? I work "in the industry,'" and really only see rust being a problem on decks that people allow grass to build up and never clean, and thats only a small %, mainly on OLD (around 2000+/- a few years) MTD mowers. however, I just spent a good amount of time cleaning and replacing deck controls on a dixon that i believe someone decided to lube to make " work better," but all it did was attract dirt, which became a great "grinding" compound
How did get yours to idel so low and smooth mine idels high all the time
I have the same mower.
I have a right side control arm that is stiff.
Any suggestions?
what is the jack called that you have under the front of the mower going under the deck?
It's a mower jack. You can find it at Harbor Freight.
Thanks
One of the control arms on my Z54 will not stay out when neutral resulting in the motor shutting off. Can you tell me anything about this?
@Sunshine Farms just uploaded a video on his zero turn Husqvarna parking brake issue and fix. I know I’m a couple of years late but it’s good information for you and may help others.
My left wheel drive will not turn the wheel when the lever is moved forward or back. Any idea what is causing this? Thanks.
This situation is easily remedied. A pressure release mechanism is built into every hydraulic pump. Yours may be in the released position.
Basically there are 2 types.
1) A bolt on the pump that you can turn (usually has a hole going through it.)
2) Residential units have 2 rods at the front or rear inside of the drive wheels that you push/pull.
@@dspnnetwork7292 Well that could be my problem on the left side when I done the neutral control it stop but I lost the power on that side driving me nuts
I have the husky RZ5426 kohler courage 26hp I absolutely love husqvarna I ordered the lights and engine guard and decked it out I bought it 2014 besides replacing the camshaft seal and adjusting the neutral control it's been sweet
If you have loose engine bolts motor will shake when you turn it off
These are super easy to work on if anyone has any problems with one let me know on here and I guarantee you it will be easy to fix also check the engine bolts for looseness there's 4 under engine I took mine out and put locktite on mine and reinstalled them
I’m wondering why my drive belt tensioner spring is getting hot. My mower is having trouble spinning over. Lol I put new battery new starter it’s acting like low voltage or not enuff power to start . I’m assuming bad ground
@@SuaveLSX979 yes it is probably a bad ground on the engine. Mine did the same thing and I messed with the engine ground and it helped. Cranked easier too.
The left arm on my 0 turn mower slowly vibrates inward, in turn, shutting mower off. How do I tighten the arm?
didn't know that they could be started without someone sitting in the seat?
Hi, how can we contact you for business inquiry?
Genius
Great demo!!!
Only thing I would do different, is not use jacks on transmissions.
I use an ATV jack under the engine guard to lift then use jack stands to support.
Otherwise, VERY EXCELLENT!!!
Next time, please show me exactly how you removed the nut on the linkage.
1/2" socket on nut, same size wrench on the back, tap it out with a hammer
@@jonathanyates8414 Thanks

Bought a husky zero turn used, guy said deck belt comes off even after tightening. Confirmed deck belt is very sloppy and the tension bolt is at max tension, belt is in great shape, almost looks new, any suggestions?
I'm thinking slightly shorter belt?
